CTP (S3EMarSpecial2) War And The Soul
Exploring more of the fascinating intersection of Activism, Community Engagement, Faith / Religion, Human Nature, Politics, Social Issues, and beyond
We sit with Dr. Edward Tick to examine war’s invisible wounds and why true homecoming requires more than treatment codes. Stories from Vietnam, Greece, scripture, and a lifetime with veterans reveal how cultures can prevent moral injury and restore meaning.
• defining post‑traumatic soul distress and social disorder
• why Vietnam reports less PTSD and what they do differently
• elder warriors, rites of return, and communal healing
• draft lottery, preventive war, and moral injury to trust
• Greek and biblical lessons on hubris, justice, self‑defense
• moving from combatant to elder protector in civilian life
• practical steps for listening, ritual, and mentorship
• resources: War and the Soul and Warriors Return by Edward Tick

00:00:00Hello, welcome to another episode of Perstitutionalist Podcast.
00:00:06I am your host, Joseph M. Leonard.
00:00:09That's L-E-N-A-R-D, it's the French, it's not, it's Leonard without an O.
00:00:17Thank you for tuning in, as Graham Norton used to say, on his show.
00:00:24Let's get on with the show!
00:00:26Hello! Special segment for February and March, mid-week drops.
00:00:34Normally Saturday monologues and normally a guest appearance on a Wednesday.
00:00:41February and March, two a week, Tuesday and Thursdays,
00:00:45in order to get caught up on some interviews that have been stacking up.
00:00:51Enjoy.
00:00:52Joining me today is Edward Tick, author of War and the Soul,
00:01:00to whom I responded,
00:01:02Bingo! The heart, the mind, the body, the soul, all can be harmed and broken.
00:01:08And I really wanted to have this guest on,
00:01:12because people have said he really gets under your skin.
00:01:16Get it? Tick? Tick.
00:01:19But that's bummed, right?
00:01:21I can't pass the lame puns.
00:01:24All in good fun. All in good fun.
00:01:26I've been hearing it for 75 years, brother.
00:01:30No, no doubt. I'm not the first.
00:01:32I won't be the last to make that joke, yes?
00:01:36Right.
00:01:37All right. Welcome to the show, Edward.
00:01:40How are you doing today?
00:01:41Thank you. I'm honored to be with you.
00:01:42Thank you for having me.
00:01:44Thank you for the important education to the public that you do with your show.
00:01:51I try, anyway.
00:01:53And I love, for those viewing on the behind-the-scenes videos,
00:01:57as opposed to the 25-plus audio platforms or reading a transcript,
00:02:04I love your background.
00:02:06Is that an actual photo from somewhere near you?
00:02:10Yes. That is a photo from the small Greek island of Poros, P-O-R-O-S.
00:02:17I'm going next week.
00:02:19I lead pilgrimages to Greece every year.
00:02:22I also lead pilgrimages to Vietnam.
00:02:26In Vietnam, of course, many of the travelers are veterans.
00:02:30In Greece, sometimes veterans, warriors come as well,
00:02:34and sometimes they lead warrior journeys only to Greece
00:02:37to use the ancient Greek warrior tradition for our healing.
00:02:41So what you're seeing behind me is a mountaintop,
00:02:46a view of a sanctuary of the sea god Poseidon on a small Greek island.
00:02:51We travel there.
00:02:53We use this island and other sacred areas nearby,
00:02:57including and especially those connected with ancient warfare
00:03:01to study and understand the ancient Greek tradition
00:03:05and how we can use it today.
00:03:06So I'm on this island a whole lot,
00:03:08and literally I'll be there next week with eight travelers.
00:03:15Three of them are veterans,
00:03:17and one of them is an orphan of Vietnam combat veterans.
00:03:23So for behind the scenes,
00:03:25today is Thursday, February the 26th.
00:03:29We're recording this.
00:03:31I don't know exactly yet when it will air.
00:03:34Of course, we will remain in communication via PodMatch,
00:03:40the system that we found each other on.
00:03:42But let's back this train up, right?
00:03:44Put it in reverse, beep, beep, beep,
00:03:48and go to the where were you born and raised?
00:03:53Where are you now?
00:03:54Significant places.
00:03:56Although you've touched on a few already,
00:03:58you've been in between and that sort of stuff.
00:04:02Sure.
00:04:03I'll try to keep that short so we can get to the more delicious material
00:04:08that we need to share today.
00:04:11All right.
00:04:11So I was born in the Bronx.
00:04:14Oh!
00:04:15And this is my real accent.
00:04:17Yeah.
00:04:19Born in the Bronx in 1951.
00:04:22And my community in the Bronx was lots and lots of World War II veterans,
00:04:28of course,
00:04:29and refugees from Europe,
00:04:32from World War I and World War II
00:04:34and escaping Eastern Europe and the Holocaust and the pogroms and all that.
00:04:38So I was exposed to war trauma from the beginning of my life.
00:04:44My father is a veteran.
00:04:46He wasn't overseas, but he had PTSD from his parents who escaped Russia and Poland
00:04:54and from his military service.
00:04:56And my godfather, who lived right around the corner from us in the Bronx,
00:05:02was my mother's only brother, an older sibling,
00:05:06who was a combat medic at the Battle of the Bulge.
00:05:08And he did not have what we call PTSD today.
00:05:13He had shell shock.
00:05:14Yeah.
00:05:15He had shell shock.
00:05:16He talked to the real shock like this his whole life.
00:05:21So he came home whole in body,
00:05:25but extremely wounded in mind and heart and spirit.
00:05:28And I absorbed that energy.
00:05:30He never told me his stories,
00:05:31but standing next to him, I got it.
00:05:34So fast forward to we moved from the Bronx to Queens.
00:05:41And then I was in high school and then college during the Vietnam War.
00:05:46I believe in universal service of some kind.
00:05:50We needed cultures who have universal service.
00:05:54They're giving their youth rites of passage
00:05:57and the youth are giving back to the culture for all they received.
00:06:00So I wanted to serve,
00:06:03but honestly, I looked really closely at the politics
00:06:07and I did not believe in or agree with the Vietnam War.
00:06:10So I began protesting at age 15 in high school,
00:06:14but not protesting the veterans,
00:06:16protesting that our country was there.
00:06:21All right.
00:06:22Then I'm in college.
00:06:24I went to college in 1968.
00:06:26I had the Vietnam War.
00:06:28My first year, I had a student deferment.
00:06:33And then for us old guys like you and me,
00:06:37we had the deferments were done away with
00:06:41and then the lottery system was instituted for who gets drafted.
00:06:45And for those who don't know,
00:06:47the government pulled birthdays out of a hat.
00:06:50And when they pulled your birthday, you got that number.
00:06:53So everybody was really frightened.
00:06:56I went to college a year early.
00:06:57So I was actually in the second lottery.
00:07:00If I was in the first lottery,
00:07:01I got my birthday, got number two.
00:07:04My mother heard that and literally she fainted.
00:07:07She almost had a heart attack.
00:07:09She thought I was off for Vietnam.
00:07:10In the second lottery, I got a high number, 244.
00:07:15Oh my God.
00:07:15Suddenly I don't have to do anything.
00:07:18One third of our generation is going to war.
00:07:20One third, maybe, depends how bad it is.
00:07:23And one third, scot-free, nothing.
00:07:25We're going to talk about moral injury today.
00:07:28That is a moral injury to the nation.
00:07:31The number of non-veterans who have told our vets,
00:07:34oh, I should have been with you, next to you in Vietnam.
00:07:37I was against it before, but there's something missing in me.
00:07:41And I have some kind of injury and missing part of me
00:07:44because I didn't serve.
00:07:46We all have that.
00:07:47And that's not the way to get out of service
00:07:50through a lottery system.
00:07:51It's horrible.
00:07:52In a way, that's almost a survivor's guilt.
00:07:57Yes, right.
00:07:58Yes, yes, yes.
00:07:59So I guess we could say I was loaded.
00:08:03I wanted to give some service like my uncle at the Bulge.
00:08:07I would have been willing to serve as a medic.
00:08:11I had determined that if I was drafted,
00:08:13I was going to volunteer to be a medic.
00:08:15So I could still keep my values
00:08:17and try to bring some hope and healing in the combat zone.
00:08:20I didn't have to do that.
00:08:22All right.
00:08:22So I got my master's degree in psychology in 1975.
00:08:27I moved to a small town in the Hudson Valley, New York State.
00:08:32And I was invited into a medical practice as a therapist.
00:08:36And what do you know?
00:08:37This is 1975, six, seven.
00:08:40PTSD was not even a diagnosis until 1980.
00:08:44Vets started to come into my practice,
00:08:48including a friend from high school
00:08:50who didn't remember,
00:08:52didn't know he was coming to see an old softball buddy.
00:08:55He just walked into the office
00:08:56and he looked like hell.
00:08:59And I just cleared my eyes.
00:09:01I said, oh my God, oh my God, is that you, Scott?
00:09:05And he shook his eyes and he said,
00:09:08eh, what are you doing here?
00:09:10How did you put us together?
00:09:12I said, Scott, you look like a wreck.
00:09:14Heck, last time we were together,
00:09:16we were playing softball and you were great.
00:09:18And we had the same kind of background.
00:09:19What happened?
00:09:20And he just shook his head and he said,
00:09:23Nam, man, Nam, the war did this to me.
00:09:27So I was exposed from the beginning of the homecoming
00:09:30and I've been working with our veterans since then.
00:09:34I have lots of stories to share about it
00:09:36from working with Vietnam veterans
00:09:38to working with all veterans.
00:09:39But briefly for now,
00:09:41through a lot of introspection,
00:09:44a lot of spiritual work,
00:09:46a lot of prayer and meditation,
00:09:49my identity evolved
00:09:51from a psychotherapist for Vietnam veterans
00:09:54to a war trauma healer
00:09:56for all survivors of all veterans,
00:09:59no matter where I meet them,
00:10:01where I run into them.
00:10:02So that continues to this day.
00:10:04So I've worked with American vets
00:10:06from the Spanish Civil War to today.
00:10:09And I work overseas.
00:10:12One of my books, Warriors Return,
00:10:14is translated into both Russian and Ukrainian.
00:10:17And I'm working by Zoom
00:10:19with their military healers
00:10:21to try to help them learn
00:10:23how to address the trauma
00:10:24even as it's happening.
00:10:26And I've led...
00:10:28Yeah, if you can intercede early,
00:10:31if you could...
00:10:32It's not something you can really,
00:10:35I dare say,
00:10:36prepare for,
00:10:38but anything you at least
00:10:39remotely entertain
00:10:42ahead and think about
00:10:44and know
00:10:45can be an issue,
00:10:47you can get your head around it
00:10:49a little easier
00:10:51later.
00:10:52Yes?
00:10:52Yes, for sure, my friend.
00:10:54And I would even...
00:10:55I would push that a little harder.
00:10:57There are ways
00:10:58we can better prepare
00:11:00our people
00:11:01for military
00:11:02and combat service.
00:11:04There are ways
00:11:05other countries
00:11:06do it much better than us.
00:11:08Much better.
00:11:09So, for example,
00:11:11this is shocking
00:11:11and it's true.
00:11:13So I've led
00:11:1419 reconciliation
00:11:16and healing journeys
00:11:17to Vietnam.
00:11:18I began in 2000
00:11:20and I only stopped
00:11:20when the pandemic stopped.
00:11:22All of us.
00:11:23And I've written
00:11:24about this extensively.
00:11:26There's some articles,
00:11:27there's a chapter
00:11:28in my book,
00:11:29Warriors Return.
00:11:30I have a book of poetry
00:11:31about the trips to Vietnam.
00:11:33While we in the United States
00:11:35tragically have
00:11:36epidemic levels
00:11:37of PTSD
00:11:38and moral injury,
00:11:39in Vietnam,
00:11:40where we would expect
00:11:42also epidemic levels
00:11:44because the war was there
00:11:45and it was so violent
00:11:46and they had
00:11:47so many casualties,
00:11:49so much wreckage
00:11:50to the infrastructure
00:11:51and the environment,
00:11:52we would think,
00:11:53and Western psychology
00:11:54would say,
00:11:55of course,
00:11:56they have depression
00:11:57and anxiety
00:11:58and PTSD
00:11:59and nightmares.
00:12:00My friend,
00:12:01guess what?
00:12:02They don't.
00:12:03They really don't have,
00:12:05they have very,
00:12:06very little wartime PTSD.
00:12:08Only extremely severe cases
00:12:10that may need hospitalization.
00:12:13But in Vietnam,
00:12:15because of their culture,
00:12:17because,
00:12:18no offense to our country,
00:12:20but they were the defender,
00:12:21we were the aggressor,
00:12:22because they've been invaded
00:12:25by more powerful countries
00:12:26for 2,000 years
00:12:28and they're used to struggling
00:12:31against the larger,
00:12:34more powerful invaders
00:12:35and they've been studying warfare
00:12:38and the warrior tradition
00:12:40and using their spiritual practices
00:12:43for preparation before
00:12:45and support during
00:12:47and then healing after.
00:12:48So there's really,
00:12:50well,
00:12:51we have massive PTSD
00:12:52but not much,
00:12:54well,
00:12:55the wars weren't here
00:12:56so we've got violence here
00:12:58but from warfare,
00:12:59international warfare,
00:13:01there's not much damage here
00:13:02to our environment
00:13:03or infrastructure
00:13:04but we have massive psychological
00:13:07and spiritual casualties.
00:13:08In Vietnam,
00:13:09it's exactly the reverse.
00:13:11There are people
00:13:11really well,
00:13:12loving,
00:13:13forgiving
00:13:13and they welcome us
00:13:14but they have severe damage
00:13:17still to their infrastructure
00:13:19and their environment
00:13:20and their DNA
00:13:21because of the Agent Orange.
00:13:23So,
00:13:25some of the ways they prepare
00:13:26for literally
00:13:28for generations,
00:13:30they have been having
00:13:31elder veterans
00:13:32come into their schools
00:13:33beginning in middle school
00:13:35to talk to the children
00:13:36and teach them
00:13:38their history
00:13:38and teach them
00:13:40what it's like
00:13:40to go to war
00:13:41if they have to
00:13:42and prepare them
00:13:43psychologically
00:13:45and spiritually
00:13:46for what they might
00:13:47have to experience.
00:13:48Many of our vets
00:13:51don't feel
00:13:52adequately prepared
00:13:53for the combat experience.
00:13:55Really,
00:13:56really well trained
00:13:57for how to fight
00:13:58but not at all
00:13:59well trained
00:14:00for what's going
00:14:01to happen internally,
00:14:03what the inner experience
00:14:04of the war wounds
00:14:05are going to be.
00:14:06And so,
00:14:07a lot of our vets
00:14:09they read war literature.
00:14:12They put really good books
00:14:14like
00:14:15All Quiet on the Western Front
00:14:17into their knapsacks
00:14:19and they hump them overseas
00:14:21and they're reading
00:14:22about the experience
00:14:23of war
00:14:25as they go into it
00:14:26and during it
00:14:27so that helps
00:14:28them prepare
00:14:29psychologically
00:14:30and spiritually
00:14:31for what they have
00:14:32to experience.
00:14:33So,
00:14:34this is just a few
00:14:34of the differences.
00:14:36We could go
00:14:37to Native Americans.
00:14:38The Native American tradition
00:14:39is a warrior tradition
00:14:41and they
00:14:43trained
00:14:44their children
00:14:45and their boys
00:14:45sometimes the girls
00:14:47but especially the boys
00:14:48from the beginning
00:14:49of their life
00:14:50in warrior skills
00:14:51and also
00:14:52in the ethics
00:14:53and the spirituality
00:14:54of warriorhood.
00:14:55Yeah,
00:14:56which is both
00:14:57good and bad
00:14:58because
00:14:58the negative
00:14:59aspect of it
00:15:01is you
00:15:01you're perpetuating
00:15:03a culture
00:15:04of
00:15:06endless
00:15:07never-ending
00:15:08fighting
00:15:08but as you said
00:15:10the good aspect
00:15:11of it
00:15:11is that
00:15:12at least
00:15:12if and when
00:15:14and where
00:15:14the fight
00:15:15comes
00:15:16there's
00:15:17that forethought
00:15:18given to it.
00:15:21Right,
00:15:22yes.
00:15:23Forethought
00:15:23given to it
00:15:24and also
00:15:25how should we say this
00:15:27forethought
00:15:28in preparation
00:15:29for the homecoming
00:15:32which the Native American
00:15:33people do
00:15:34to an extraordinary
00:15:35degree.
00:15:36So can I
00:15:37I'll share a story
00:15:38to this
00:15:40demonstrates
00:15:40how we were going
00:15:41to talk about
00:15:41the
00:15:42maybe
00:15:43mention the movie
00:15:44Sheepdog
00:15:46I've been
00:15:46yep
00:15:47I wrote it down
00:15:48I'm
00:15:48yeah
00:15:49you saw it
00:15:50yes
00:15:50I saw it
00:15:51I saw it
00:15:52I feel responsible
00:15:53to see
00:15:54to read everything
00:15:56I can
00:15:56and see every movie
00:15:57I can
00:15:57about the
00:15:58military and
00:15:59veteran experience
00:15:59so
00:16:00I'm good about that
00:16:02and we can talk
00:16:02about it
00:16:03so Sheepdog
00:16:04really
00:16:04is a
00:16:05very good movie
00:16:06demonstrating
00:16:07how difficult
00:16:08and painful
00:16:10and confusing
00:16:11homecoming is
00:16:12and
00:16:13that there aren't
00:16:13many people
00:16:14there are some helpers
00:16:16good therapists
00:16:17say you gotta do
00:16:17the work
00:16:20but there aren't
00:16:22that many helpers
00:16:23and
00:16:23it emphasizes
00:16:24most people
00:16:25are not gonna
00:16:25understand what
00:16:26you went through
00:16:27you're coming home
00:16:28to a civilian
00:16:29culture that
00:16:30doesn't get it
00:16:32and
00:16:32more than
00:16:33anything else
00:16:34I can cry
00:16:35when I say this
00:16:36our lawyers
00:16:37more than anything else
00:16:38just want us to get it
00:16:40get it
00:16:41get it
00:16:42get it
00:16:42get what it did
00:16:43to me inside
00:16:44hear
00:16:44hear me
00:16:45really
00:16:46hear me
00:16:47deeply
00:16:47don't just try to fix me
00:16:48and make me a civilian again
00:16:50get me
00:16:51and let's
00:16:53tell all of our
00:16:54brothers and sisters
00:16:56who are listening
00:16:56you can't become a civilian again
00:16:59it's a one way journey
00:17:01once a war
00:17:02like the marines say
00:17:03once a marine
00:17:03always a marine
00:17:04once a warrior
00:17:05always a warrior
00:17:07so
00:17:07how do I
00:17:09become a warrior
00:17:10in the civilian
00:17:11sector
00:17:12well that's
00:17:13what other
00:17:14cultures did
00:17:14and especially
00:17:15Native Americans
00:17:16to an extraordinary
00:17:17degree
00:17:18they expected
00:17:19the warriors
00:17:20to be warriors
00:17:21for life
00:17:21to be elders
00:17:23to help
00:17:25and tend
00:17:26and guide
00:17:27and heal
00:17:27the younger
00:17:28warriors
00:17:28to give
00:17:29all the
00:17:30return
00:17:31healing ceremonies
00:17:32for the younger
00:17:33warriors
00:17:33and also
00:17:34to protect
00:17:35the culture
00:17:35from the danger
00:17:36you said about
00:17:37we don't want
00:17:38an endless war
00:17:39warriors
00:17:40are for
00:17:41preservation
00:17:42and protection
00:17:43and if they become
00:17:45aggressors
00:17:46and berserkers
00:17:47that's actually
00:17:48a betrayal
00:17:49of the spiritual
00:17:50warrior ethos
00:17:51so we need
00:17:53warriors
00:17:53for preservation
00:17:55and protection
00:17:56we don't want
00:17:57them to be
00:17:58we don't want
00:17:58them to create
00:17:59a warrior class
00:18:00that is involved
00:18:01in endless warfare
00:18:02in Vietnam
00:18:04we met
00:18:06with
00:18:07he has since
00:18:07passed
00:18:08but he was a
00:18:08wonderful man
00:18:09an elder warrior
00:18:10what we're talking
00:18:12about
00:18:12his name
00:18:13he was known
00:18:14as Mr. Tiger
00:18:16Nguyen Tam Ho
00:18:17was his name
00:18:18Scout Son
00:18:19he was at war
00:18:21in combat
00:18:22for 25 years
00:18:24against the Japanese
00:18:26during World War II
00:18:27against the French
00:18:28during that war
00:18:29and then against
00:18:29the Americans
00:18:30he was peaceful
00:18:32and kind
00:18:33and loving
00:18:34and he embraced
00:18:36all of our warriors
00:18:37our veterans
00:18:38as his brothers
00:18:40and one of our vets
00:18:42said
00:18:42well do you know
00:18:43about PTSD
00:18:44do you have it here
00:18:45and he said
00:18:46no
00:18:47we know about
00:18:48your wound
00:18:49in America
00:18:49and our hearts
00:18:51are broken
00:18:51that you're still
00:18:52suffering
00:18:53we're not anymore
00:18:56so there's something
00:18:57very different
00:18:58about our cultures
00:18:59that we're okay
00:19:00when the war was here
00:19:01but you're not
00:19:02and we really
00:19:03want you to heal
00:19:05so please keep
00:19:05coming to Vietnam
00:19:06to heal
00:19:07if you can't heal
00:19:08in America
00:19:08okay
00:19:09so then
00:19:10one of the marines
00:19:11said
00:19:12well then
00:19:13Mr. Tiger
00:19:13if you don't have
00:19:14PTSD here
00:19:15how do we prevent it
00:19:16what do we do
00:19:17and he chuckled
00:19:18and he said
00:19:19oh my brother
00:19:21that's actually
00:19:22an easy question
00:19:22to prevent PTSD
00:19:24stay home
00:19:28if your country
00:19:30is attacked
00:19:30of course
00:19:31you have to
00:19:32and your children
00:19:32have to defend you
00:19:33and that's the correct
00:19:35necessary use
00:19:36of warfare
00:19:37if your
00:19:38if your country
00:19:39wants to send you
00:19:40to send your children
00:19:42overseas
00:19:42for any reasons
00:19:44they will have
00:19:45PTSD
00:19:46and moral injury
00:19:47war will
00:19:48wound their souls
00:19:49and they will
00:19:49come home damaged
00:19:50so
00:19:51watch your politics
00:19:53and be really careful
00:19:54as responsible
00:19:55citizens
00:19:55and try
00:19:56to keep
00:19:57your country
00:19:57acting correctly
00:19:58not to
00:19:59go
00:20:00too deep
00:20:02in
00:20:02the strategy
00:20:04though
00:20:04in a lot
00:20:06of respects
00:20:07you don't want
00:20:08your home front
00:20:09to be where
00:20:10the war is
00:20:11though
00:20:11if you can
00:20:13prevent
00:20:13them
00:20:14from getting
00:20:16here
00:20:16by fighting
00:20:17them there
00:20:19the philosophy
00:20:20is
00:20:21you're
00:20:22indeed
00:20:24saving
00:20:24hopefully
00:20:25the theory
00:20:26you're
00:20:27saving
00:20:27lives
00:20:28and
00:20:29infrastructure
00:20:30and damage
00:20:31at home
00:20:32the whole
00:20:34over there
00:20:36concept
00:20:36yeah
00:20:37meet them
00:20:39there
00:20:39so you
00:20:40don't have
00:20:41to fight
00:20:41them here
00:20:42you
00:20:43completely
00:20:45reject
00:20:45that
00:20:47or you're
00:20:49saying
00:20:49it's
00:20:50better
00:20:50it's
00:20:51a preference
00:20:52it makes
00:20:53sense
00:20:53from the
00:20:54psychological
00:20:55aspect
00:20:56from a
00:20:58destruction
00:20:59to prevent
00:21:01a major
00:21:02war
00:21:02to fight
00:21:03a minor
00:21:04war
00:21:04somewhere
00:21:05you're
00:21:05you're not
00:21:06necessarily
00:21:07against
00:21:08that
00:21:08but
00:21:09you
00:21:09understand
00:21:10the damage
00:21:11it does
00:21:12in other
00:21:13ways
00:21:14yeah
00:21:14that
00:21:14that's
00:21:15an accurate
00:21:16statement
00:21:16and feedback
00:21:17about where
00:21:18I am
00:21:18stand
00:21:19correct
00:21:19now
00:21:20yeah
00:21:20so
00:21:21just to
00:21:21try to
00:21:22get my
00:21:23head around
00:21:23it
00:21:24and
00:21:24hopefully
00:21:25those in the audience
00:21:26yeah
00:21:27I'm with you
00:21:28to try to get
00:21:29our heads
00:21:30around
00:21:30the concept
00:21:32of preventive
00:21:32war
00:21:33okay
00:21:34our
00:21:35country
00:21:36and our
00:21:37younger
00:21:38warriors
00:21:38were told
00:21:39that Iraq
00:21:40and Afghanistan
00:21:40were preventive
00:21:41wars
00:21:42go over
00:21:43there
00:21:43because
00:21:449-11
00:21:45is their
00:21:45fault
00:21:45and because
00:21:46they're
00:21:47coming here
00:21:47well
00:21:49by
00:21:50countless
00:21:51numbers
00:21:51of our
00:21:52veterans
00:21:52feel betrayed
00:21:53by that
00:21:54because it
00:21:54wasn't true
00:21:55because when
00:21:56they got
00:21:57there
00:21:57I
00:21:58expect
00:21:59you've heard
00:22:00this too
00:22:00and I'm not
00:22:01talking for
00:22:01everyone
00:22:02but many
00:22:03many
00:22:03veterans
00:22:04when they
00:22:04got
00:22:04into the
00:22:05Middle East
00:22:06they felt
00:22:07like
00:22:07oh
00:22:08these are
00:22:08mercenary
00:22:09wars
00:22:09and we're
00:22:09really here
00:22:10for the
00:22:11oil
00:22:11for the
00:22:12land
00:22:12for the
00:22:13riches
00:22:14this country
00:22:14has
00:22:14I'm not
00:22:15really here
00:22:16to protect
00:22:17America
00:22:17so the
00:22:19concept
00:22:20of preventive
00:22:21war
00:22:21is a
00:22:22really
00:22:22important
00:22:23one
00:22:23you're
00:22:23right
00:22:24and it's
00:22:24really
00:22:25really
00:22:26difficult
00:22:26to evaluate
00:22:27it
00:22:29and
00:22:31this is
00:22:32hard
00:22:32but it's
00:22:33true
00:22:33we really
00:22:34utterly
00:22:35have to
00:22:35trust
00:22:35our
00:22:36leadership
00:22:36and that
00:22:37they're
00:22:37telling us
00:22:38the truth
00:22:38and that
00:22:39we're
00:22:39really
00:22:39in danger
00:22:40and that
00:22:41there
00:22:41aren't
00:22:42secret
00:22:42motives
00:22:43for using
00:22:44well it
00:22:45is absolutely
00:22:46positively
00:22:47true
00:22:48that
00:22:49Afghanistan
00:22:50itself
00:22:51as a
00:22:51nation
00:22:52the Taliban
00:22:54even as
00:22:55leadership
00:22:55didn't have
00:22:58the wherewithal
00:22:59the abilities
00:23:00to pick up
00:23:02and come
00:23:02attack America
00:23:03same with
00:23:04Iraq
00:23:05more or less
00:23:06unless it's
00:23:07eventually
00:23:08like the
00:23:09threat of
00:23:09Iran
00:23:10if they
00:23:11get
00:23:11nuclear
00:23:11tipped
00:23:12ICBMs
00:23:13that's a
00:23:14whole other
00:23:14situation
00:23:15but yet
00:23:17neither of
00:23:17those two
00:23:18nations
00:23:18obviously
00:23:19could
00:23:20attack
00:23:20the issue
00:23:21or the
00:23:22threat
00:23:23the
00:23:23concern
00:23:24always
00:23:25was
00:23:25they're
00:23:26harboring
00:23:27terrorists
00:23:27who do
00:23:29come here
00:23:29and attack
00:23:30us
00:23:31so
00:23:32another
00:23:33movie
00:23:33did you
00:23:34see the
00:23:34Ben Affleck
00:23:35movie
00:23:36Paycheck
00:23:37by chance
00:23:38oh I
00:23:39didn't see
00:23:39that
00:23:39I reckon
00:23:40that deals
00:23:41with the
00:23:42the whole
00:23:43psychological
00:23:45notion of
00:23:47preemptive
00:23:48war
00:23:48and it
00:23:50deals with
00:23:51like foreseeing
00:23:52the future
00:23:53and the idea
00:23:54is that
00:23:55well
00:23:56such and
00:23:57such is
00:23:57going to
00:23:58attack us
00:23:59so we
00:24:00attack it
00:24:01first
00:24:01and it
00:24:02deals in
00:24:03that whole
00:24:04theory and
00:24:05concept
00:24:05it's
00:24:06it's kind
00:24:07of odd
00:24:08but it
00:24:08brings up
00:24:09those
00:24:09psychological
00:24:11questions
00:24:12Ben Affleck
00:24:13Paycheck
00:24:14I'll see it
00:24:16maybe tonight
00:24:17thank you
00:24:18okay
00:24:20we do
00:24:21have
00:24:21a long
00:24:22history
00:24:23of quality
00:24:24movies
00:24:25about war
00:24:26and warfare
00:24:26and veterans
00:24:27and what they
00:24:28experience
00:24:28in combat
00:24:29and what
00:24:30they've
00:24:30how they
00:24:31struggle
00:24:31and the
00:24:33other
00:24:33thing is
00:24:34like with
00:24:35the cartels
00:24:37and declaring
00:24:39them
00:24:39terrorists
00:24:40are
00:24:41are they
00:24:42well
00:24:43some would
00:24:44say yes
00:24:45in our
00:24:45southern border
00:24:46at times
00:24:47they've
00:24:47literally
00:24:47crossed
00:24:48and invaded
00:24:49us
00:24:49physically
00:24:50and shot
00:24:51people
00:24:52and killed
00:24:52people
00:24:53but
00:24:53is
00:24:54the
00:24:55drug
00:24:56infiltration
00:24:57and all
00:24:58especially
00:24:59with
00:24:59sentinel
00:25:00deaths
00:25:01really
00:25:02is an
00:25:02act of
00:25:03war
00:25:03or is
00:25:04it not
00:25:04and do
00:25:05we then
00:25:06go to
00:25:06take them
00:25:07out
00:25:07or we
00:25:08do not
00:25:08or we
00:25:09just accept
00:25:10hundreds of
00:25:11thousands of
00:25:12people
00:25:12dying on
00:25:13a yearly
00:25:14basis
00:25:14over it
00:25:15those are
00:25:17really tough
00:25:18questions
00:25:19they're
00:25:20so
00:25:21thank you
00:25:22for bringing
00:25:23them up
00:25:23here today
00:25:24because we're
00:25:25in the middle
00:25:26of chaos
00:25:27and crisis
00:25:27because those
00:25:29are the tough
00:25:29questions we
00:25:30have now
00:25:31and we
00:25:33have policies
00:25:34that may
00:25:34be reducing
00:25:35that damage
00:25:36and
00:25:36yeah
00:25:38as we
00:25:39speak now
00:25:40El Mencho
00:25:41was I
00:25:42joke on
00:25:43Twitter
00:25:43El Mencho
00:25:44now
00:25:44El Slaughter
00:25:45or El
00:25:46Squashto
00:25:47you know
00:25:48big tongue
00:25:49in cheek
00:25:49but
00:25:50not something
00:25:52I should
00:25:52joke about
00:25:53but my
00:25:53lame
00:25:54OCD
00:25:55brain
00:25:55humor
00:25:56can't
00:25:56help
00:25:57but go
00:25:57there
00:25:58and in
00:25:58a way
00:25:59it's a
00:25:59defensive
00:26:00mechanism
00:26:01in my
00:26:01own
00:26:01head
00:26:02to help
00:26:04justify
00:26:05again
00:26:05well
00:26:06he's been
00:26:07killing
00:26:07Americans
00:26:08so why
00:26:09should I
00:26:10grieve
00:26:11for him
00:26:11but
00:26:11we
00:26:12indeed
00:26:13do
00:26:13Christian
00:26:15show
00:26:15we're
00:26:16to
00:26:16love
00:26:16even
00:26:17our
00:26:17enemies
00:26:17so
00:26:19again
00:26:20this is
00:26:20all
00:26:21difficult
00:26:22but the
00:26:24drug cartel
00:26:25thing
00:26:25the other
00:26:25movie that
00:26:26comes to
00:26:27mind
00:26:27is the
00:26:27Clancy
00:26:28book
00:26:28turned
00:26:29movie
00:26:29if you
00:26:31recall
00:26:31clear and
00:26:32present
00:26:32danger
00:26:34right
00:26:35but today
00:26:36we don't
00:26:38need any
00:26:39boots on
00:26:39the ground
00:26:40we can
00:26:40GPS
00:26:41drone
00:26:42strike
00:26:42every
00:26:43single
00:26:43known
00:26:44cartel
00:26:45compound
00:26:45from the
00:26:46air
00:26:47and say
00:26:47you clean
00:26:48up the
00:26:49mess that
00:26:49you allowed
00:26:50to happen
00:26:50there
00:26:51but we
00:26:52had to
00:26:52act and
00:26:53take them
00:26:54out
00:26:54but again
00:26:55do we
00:26:56really want
00:26:57to do
00:26:58that to
00:26:58others
00:26:59I would
00:26:59say no
00:27:00but
00:27:01do we
00:27:02need to
00:27:03do that
00:27:03is the
00:27:04difficult
00:27:05question to
00:27:06answer
00:27:06if we're
00:27:07saving
00:27:08lives here
00:27:09but causing
00:27:11death and
00:27:11destruction
00:27:12there again
00:27:13the fight
00:27:14them there
00:27:15as opposed
00:27:16to here
00:27:16philosophy
00:27:17you and I
00:27:19are both
00:27:20moral and
00:27:21spiritual
00:27:21people and
00:27:23the question
00:27:24that lingers
00:27:25always behind
00:27:27these questions
00:27:28is what
00:27:30would Jesus
00:27:30say
00:27:32for everything
00:27:33there is a
00:27:34season
00:27:34the Bible
00:27:35even says
00:27:36there is
00:27:37time for
00:27:38war
00:27:38we are to
00:27:40love even
00:27:41our enemies
00:27:42we are to
00:27:43turn the
00:27:43other cheek
00:27:44when and
00:27:45where as
00:27:45best we
00:27:46can
00:27:46but turning
00:27:47the other
00:27:47cheek and
00:27:48giving grace
00:27:49doesn't mean
00:27:50always be a
00:27:51sucker and
00:27:51always allow
00:27:52yourself to
00:27:53be abused
00:27:54either
00:27:54there is
00:27:55time to
00:27:56fight back
00:27:57yes
00:27:58that's
00:27:59that's
00:28:00correct
00:28:00and that's
00:28:01really
00:28:01important
00:28:01that our
00:28:02listeners
00:28:03know this
00:28:05we can
00:28:05expand this
00:28:06a little
00:28:06bit
00:28:06the sixth
00:28:08commandment
00:28:09in the
00:28:09Bible is
00:28:10not thou
00:28:10shalt not
00:28:11kill
00:28:11thank you
00:28:12I have
00:28:13several
00:28:14it's thou
00:28:15shalt not
00:28:15murder
00:28:16murder
00:28:18murder
00:28:18murder
00:28:18innocence
00:28:19exodus
00:28:2022
00:28:202
00:28:21alone
00:28:22season
00:28:23the night
00:28:23dealt
00:28:23the fatal
00:28:24blow
00:28:24you are
00:28:25not
00:28:26guilty
00:28:26of
00:28:27the
00:28:27sin
00:28:28of
00:28:28murdering
00:28:29innocence
00:28:30there
00:28:31that is
00:28:32self
00:28:32defense
00:28:35yes
00:28:36yes
00:28:36and there's
00:28:37other
00:28:38explications
00:28:39in the
00:28:40Bible
00:28:40that help
00:28:41differentiate
00:28:43murder
00:28:44from killing
00:28:45and
00:28:46the Bible
00:28:48also allows
00:28:50controversial
00:28:51today as
00:28:51well but it
00:28:52allows them
00:28:53capital punishment
00:28:55Genesis
00:28:57Numbers
00:28:58absolutely
00:29:00Jesus
00:29:01this is what
00:29:03bothers me about
00:29:04anti-Semitism
00:29:05Jesus
00:29:06born a Jew
00:29:07raised a Jew
00:29:08fulfilled the
00:29:09Jewish scriptures
00:29:10I as a
00:29:11Christian
00:29:12am really
00:29:13a messianic
00:29:15Jew
00:29:15Jesus was a
00:29:17Jew
00:29:17he became a
00:29:18rabbi
00:29:19under
00:29:20tyrannic
00:29:21law
00:29:22at age
00:29:2330
00:29:23under
00:29:24the law
00:29:25he began
00:29:26his ministry
00:29:27as a
00:29:28rabbi
00:29:28Christianity
00:29:29today did
00:29:31not
00:29:31replace
00:29:32the Old
00:29:33Testament
00:29:33did not
00:29:34in some
00:29:35cases said
00:29:36this is the
00:29:37new way
00:29:38I have a
00:29:38show on
00:29:39that
00:29:39like turn
00:29:40the other
00:29:41cheek
00:29:41when and
00:29:42where you
00:29:43can but
00:29:43don't always
00:29:44be abused
00:29:45the Old
00:29:46Testament
00:29:47an eye
00:29:48for an eye
00:29:49can and
00:29:50does
00:29:50contextually
00:29:51still apply
00:29:53at times
00:29:53it didn't
00:29:55replace
00:29:55the Old
00:29:56if you
00:29:57think the
00:29:58Old
00:29:58Testament
00:29:59was
00:29:59replaced
00:30:00then you
00:30:01don't believe
00:30:02in the
00:30:02commandments
00:30:03anymore
00:30:04that's Old
00:30:05Testament
00:30:05that's there's a
00:30:07reason why
00:30:07they're in
00:30:08the Bible
00:30:09together
00:30:10yes
00:30:10yes yes
00:30:12yes
00:30:12yes
00:30:15we're aligned
00:30:17with everything
00:30:17you just
00:30:18shared
00:30:18now
00:30:20the Bible
00:30:21also is a
00:30:23wonderful
00:30:24textbook for
00:30:25studying about
00:30:27war
00:30:27violence
00:30:28what it does
00:30:29to humanity
00:30:30and through
00:30:32the ages
00:30:32so
00:30:33and also
00:30:35has so
00:30:36much
00:30:37wisdom
00:30:38for
00:30:38our
00:30:39concern
00:30:40for
00:30:40healing
00:30:40from war
00:30:42so
00:30:44there's so
00:30:45many ways
00:30:46we can go
00:30:46into this
00:30:47but
00:30:47the Bible
00:30:49over and
00:30:49over and
00:30:50over
00:30:50counsels us
00:30:51on that
00:30:52to protect
00:30:53our souls
00:30:54and to
00:30:54behave in a
00:30:56way that
00:30:56is ethical
00:30:58and spiritual
00:30:59even when
00:31:00we're in
00:31:01combative
00:31:02situations
00:31:03yeah
00:31:03we are
00:31:04given free
00:31:05will to
00:31:06choose
00:31:06to want
00:31:08to do
00:31:08good
00:31:09and sometimes
00:31:10good people
00:31:11have to do
00:31:12bad things
00:31:13in order to
00:31:14preserve a
00:31:14way of life
00:31:15but also
00:31:17free will
00:31:18some will
00:31:19choose
00:31:19evil
00:31:20and it
00:31:21has to be
00:31:22confronted
00:31:23I'm gonna
00:31:24go down
00:31:24a path
00:31:25that's kind
00:31:26of off
00:31:26topic here
00:31:27but
00:31:28regarding
00:31:29the commandment
00:31:29thou shalt
00:31:30not murder
00:31:31innocents
00:31:31also
00:31:32it isn't
00:31:33pride
00:31:34that's the
00:31:35sin
00:31:36it's hubris
00:31:37it's
00:31:38pridefulness
00:31:40hubris
00:31:41I go in
00:31:42my
00:31:42CTP
00:31:43book
00:31:44four
00:31:45that's on
00:31:45the

00:31:47exclusive
00:31:48also touch
00:31:49on it
00:31:49in CTP
00:31:50three
00:31:50book
00:31:52I should
00:31:53be proud
00:31:54of little
00:31:55Johnny
00:31:55hitting the
00:31:56walk-off
00:31:56home run
00:31:57at Little
00:31:58League
00:31:58I should
00:31:59be proud
00:32:01of little
00:32:01Sally
00:32:02winning a
00:32:03ribbon in
00:32:04horse
00:32:05you know
00:32:07whatever
00:32:07or all
00:32:09A's on
00:32:09a report
00:32:10card
00:32:10taking pride
00:32:12in a job
00:32:12well done
00:32:13at work
00:32:14is good
00:32:15yes
00:32:16hubris
00:32:17where you
00:32:18go into
00:32:18the boss
00:32:19and demand
00:32:19all these
00:32:20other people
00:32:21are worthless
00:32:22I'm the
00:32:23only one
00:32:23worth
00:32:24anything
00:32:24fire
00:32:25them all
00:32:25quadruple
00:32:26my salary
00:32:27that's
00:32:28the sin
00:32:29of hubris
00:32:31yes
00:32:32and I'm
00:32:33glad
00:32:33also that
00:32:34you
00:32:35made that
00:32:35clear
00:32:36and
00:32:36differentiated
00:32:37that for
00:32:37our audience
00:32:38hubris is
00:32:40an ancient
00:32:40Greek word
00:32:41the ancient
00:32:42Greeks
00:32:42considered it
00:32:43to be
00:32:44the worst
00:32:44of all
00:32:45the sins
00:32:46and they
00:32:47said
00:32:47in their
00:32:48definition
00:32:49that it
00:32:50is
00:32:51overweening
00:32:52pride
00:32:53that makes
00:32:54you think
00:32:55like you're
00:32:56as powerful
00:32:57as the gods
00:32:58yeah
00:32:59yeah
00:33:00hubris
00:33:00indeed
00:33:02can be
00:33:02perceived
00:33:03as the
00:33:04worst
00:33:04because
00:33:05those who
00:33:05suffer it
00:33:06in their
00:33:07minds
00:33:08can justify
00:33:09anything
00:33:10for their
00:33:12own
00:33:12gratification
00:33:14enrichment
00:33:15whatever
00:33:17whatever
00:33:17so that
00:33:18makes
00:33:18sense
00:33:19the Greek
00:33:20had that
00:33:21right
00:33:21in many
00:33:22respects
00:33:23they sure
00:33:24did
00:33:25they sure
00:33:25did
00:33:25and they
00:33:26also
00:33:27they were
00:33:28at war
00:33:29most of
00:33:29the time

00:40:00happened
00:40:00what
00:40:02happened
00:40:02I

00:40:06I
00:40:06felt
00:40:07it
00:40:07like
00:40:08rush
00:40:09out
00:40:09of my
00:40:10body
00:40:10and
00:40:11pull
00:40:11me
00:40:11up
00:40:12the
00:40:12hill
00:40:12by
00:40:13what
00:40:13he
00:40:14described
00:40:14an invisible
00:40:16umbilical
00:40:16cord of
00:40:17spiritual
00:40:17energy
00:40:18that pulled
00:40:19me up
00:40:19the hill
00:40:20and kept
00:40:20me safe
00:40:21through the
00:40:21charging
00:40:22enemy
00:40:22so I got
00:40:23to the
00:40:23hill
00:40:23without a
00:40:24single
00:40:24scratch
00:40:25and I
00:40:26should have
00:40:26been dead
00:40:27a thousand
00:40:27times over
00:40:28but here
00:40:28I am
00:40:29so he
00:40:30knew we
00:40:30have
00:40:31a divine
00:40:32intervention
00:40:33for
00:40:33whatever
00:40:34point
00:40:35reason
00:40:36future
00:40:36purpose
00:40:37unknown
00:40:38at the
00:40:39time
00:40:39and maybe
00:40:40still not
00:40:40known
00:40:41now
00:40:42well
00:40:44yes
00:40:45except
00:40:45that now
00:40:46I've been
00:40:47given the
00:40:47gift of
00:40:47surviving
00:40:48in life
00:40:49and I
00:40:49want to
00:40:50do some
00:40:50good with
00:40:50it
00:40:50and gift
00:40:51back
00:40:51and that's
00:40:53where our
00:40:53warriors
00:40:53evolve in
00:40:54a very
00:40:55beautiful
00:40:55way
00:40:55so
00:40:58from that
00:40:59very
00:40:59early
00:41:01encounter
00:41:01with our
00:41:02veteran
00:41:02I realized
00:41:04the soul
00:41:05wound is
00:41:06profound
00:41:07and deep
00:41:08and all
00:41:09pervasive
00:41:10and since
00:41:11the soul
00:41:12includes
00:41:13everything we
00:41:14are
00:41:14if the soul
00:41:15is wounded
00:41:15every aspect
00:41:17of us is
00:41:17going to be
00:41:18wounded
00:41:19Hippocrates
00:41:20that ancient
00:41:21Greek
00:41:21physician
00:41:22who we
00:41:22call the
00:41:23father of
00:41:23modern
00:41:24medicine
00:41:24he said
00:41:262500
00:41:26years ago
00:41:29all illness
00:41:30begins in
00:41:30the soul
00:41:31and it
00:41:32accumulates
00:41:33and emerges
00:41:34in the
00:41:34body
00:41:34and that's
00:41:36soul wounding
00:41:37in what
00:41:37we have
00:41:37so
00:41:39and many
00:41:40many warriors
00:41:40like this
00:41:41one have
00:41:42told me
00:41:42stories of
00:41:43their experience
00:41:43of soul
00:41:44loss in
00:41:45combat
00:41:45and they
00:41:46want
00:41:47reunification
00:41:48so I
00:41:49have
00:41:49and warrior
00:41:50war in the
00:41:51soul is
00:41:51very much
00:41:52about this
00:41:53I
00:41:54redefine
00:41:55post-traumatic
00:41:56stress disorder
00:41:57since we
00:41:58have the
00:41:58acronym
00:41:59and everybody
00:42:00uses it
00:42:00you sit in a
00:42:01coffee shop
00:42:02and you hear
00:42:03you know
00:42:03the college
00:42:04students talking
00:42:04about my
00:42:05right
00:42:06stress
00:42:08anxiety
00:42:09there
00:42:09yes
00:42:10there is a
00:42:11place for
00:42:11that
00:42:12it is a
00:42:12form of
00:42:13pts
00:42:14military
00:42:15ptsd
00:42:16is far
00:42:16different than
00:42:17civilian
00:42:18ptsd
00:42:19yeah
00:42:19right
00:42:20and
00:42:21well
00:42:22somebody
00:42:22who's
00:42:23been in
00:42:23combat
00:42:23as
00:42:24we tend
00:42:25to think
00:42:25of
00:42:26victim
00:42:26ptsd
00:42:27there's
00:42:28also
00:42:28perpetrator
00:42:29ptsd
00:42:30and
00:42:31survivor's
00:42:32guilt
00:42:32all of
00:42:34that
00:42:34yes
00:42:35so
00:42:35so
00:42:36so I
00:42:37have
00:42:37re
00:42:38without
00:42:39throwing
00:42:40away
00:42:40post-traumatic
00:42:41stress
00:42:41disorder
00:42:42it's
00:42:42useful
00:42:42we need
00:42:43it
00:42:43I've
00:42:44also
00:42:45redefined
00:42:46ptsd
00:42:47is
00:42:48post-traumatic
00:42:49soul
00:42:50distress
00:42:52soul
00:42:53distress
00:42:53all of
00:42:55the symptoms
00:42:55that we
00:42:56have
00:42:56are
00:42:57the soul
00:42:58trying to
00:42:58communicate
00:42:59its pain
00:43:00and distress
00:43:01and grief
00:43:02and despair
00:43:03and all
00:43:05of its
00:43:05emotions
00:43:05when it
00:43:07can't
00:43:07express
00:43:08itself
00:43:08directly
00:43:08or when
00:43:09people
00:43:09haven't
00:43:10listened
00:43:10or when
00:43:11people
00:43:11have been
00:43:11given
00:43:12too many
00:43:12meds
00:43:13but not
00:43:14been allowed
00:43:14to talk
00:43:15and tell
00:43:15their stories
00:43:16there's a
00:43:16million reasons
00:43:17but
00:43:17it will
00:43:19come out
00:43:19through
00:43:20the soul's
00:43:21wounds
00:43:21will come
00:43:21out through
00:43:22the mind
00:43:22and our
00:43:22behavior
00:43:23and the
00:43:23body
00:43:23when
00:43:24we don't
00:43:25give the
00:43:25soul
00:43:26enough
00:43:27loving
00:43:28attention
00:43:29and caring
00:43:30I also
00:43:31redefine
00:43:32the acronym
00:43:34PTSD
00:43:34as post-traumatic
00:43:36social
00:43:37disorder
00:43:38and the
00:43:39movie
00:43:39Sheepdog
00:43:40shows that
00:43:40really well
00:43:44I've
00:43:44come home
00:43:44nobody
00:43:45understands
00:43:45me
00:43:46yeah
00:43:46well
00:43:46you're
00:43:46not
00:43:46the
00:43:46same
00:43:47person
00:43:47anymore
00:43:47and they
00:43:48really
00:43:48don't
00:43:49understand
00:43:49and they
00:43:49don't
00:43:50get it
00:43:50and who
00:43:51you are
00:43:51now
00:43:51doesn't
00:43:52fit into
00:43:52the society
00:43:53anymore
00:43:54and we
00:43:55have to
00:43:56find a
00:43:56meeting
00:43:56ground
00:43:57for both
00:43:57of you
00:43:57it is
00:43:58a social
00:43:58disorder
00:43:59so whenever
00:44:00we use
00:44:01more of our
00:44:03resources for
00:44:04destruction and
00:44:05healing
00:44:05whenever we
00:44:06withhold
00:44:07resources from
00:44:09our warriors
00:44:09when they come
00:44:10home
00:44:10whenever we
00:44:12don't give
00:44:12as much
00:44:13attention to
00:44:14homecoming
00:44:15and healing
00:44:16as we did
00:44:17to training
00:44:18and preparation
00:44:19and service
00:44:20wherever they
00:44:21go
00:44:21we are
00:44:22in social
00:44:23disorder
00:44:24medicine has
00:44:25a concept
00:44:26that's called
00:44:27we hardly
00:44:28ever hear
00:44:28this
00:44:28it's called
00:44:29a disease
00:44:30of adaptation
00:44:33PTSD
00:44:33as we know
00:44:34it is a
00:44:35largely a
00:44:35disease of
00:44:36the veterans
00:44:37can't adapt
00:44:38to our
00:44:38culture
00:44:39as it is
00:44:40now
00:44:41and what
00:44:41they've come
00:44:41home to
00:44:42and so a lot
00:44:43of the symptoms
00:44:44are from
00:44:44feeling
00:44:45neglected
00:44:46betrayed
00:44:47misunderstood
00:44:48rejected
00:44:50unlovable
00:44:51unemployable
00:44:52all that
00:44:52stuff
00:44:53so their
00:44:54PTSD is
00:44:54in significant
00:44:56part a result
00:44:57of the
00:44:57inadequate
00:44:58homecoming
00:44:59and again
00:45:00this differs
00:45:01profoundly
00:45:02from many
00:45:03other cultures
00:45:03around the
00:45:04world both
00:45:04past and
00:45:05present
00:45:05yep
00:45:06well again
00:45:07the time
00:45:08has flown
00:45:09I don't want
00:45:10to turn this
00:45:11into a
00:45:11three-hour
00:45:12session
00:45:12although
00:45:13this could
00:45:14be a
00:45:15three-day
00:45:15session
00:45:17but then
00:45:18it'll be
00:45:18way too
00:45:19long for
00:45:20anyone to
00:45:20pay attention
00:45:21to
00:45:21so before
00:45:23I get to
00:45:23where people
00:45:24find you
00:45:25website
00:45:25and that
00:45:26sort of
00:45:26thing
00:45:26any
00:45:27closing
00:45:28thoughts
00:45:29before we
00:45:30get to
00:45:30that last
00:45:31question
00:45:32oh gosh
00:45:33yes
00:45:33thank you
00:45:34to all
00:45:35of our
00:45:36service people
00:45:37listening
00:45:37welcome home
00:45:43we're glad
00:45:44you got
00:45:45back
00:45:46others did
00:45:47not sadly
00:45:48yes
00:45:49and the
00:45:50homecoming
00:45:50journey is
00:45:51long and
00:45:52difficult
00:45:52and find
00:45:54people who
00:45:55really get
00:45:55it and
00:45:56will do
00:45:57the walk
00:45:57with you
00:45:58as you
00:45:59said they
00:46:00may not
00:46:00get it
00:46:01I
00:46:01the NHL
00:46:03I used to
00:46:03play hockey
00:46:04I never
00:46:04went professional
00:46:06or anything
00:46:06like that but
00:46:07I watch a lot
00:46:08of NHL
00:46:09and there
00:46:10were teams
00:46:11the last
00:46:11few years
00:46:12had embraced
00:46:14the awkward
00:46:15PSAs
00:46:16right
00:46:16I know
00:46:17something's
00:46:18different
00:46:19I know
00:46:19something ain't
00:46:20right
00:46:21I may not
00:46:22be able
00:46:23to understand

00:48:06you were
00:48:07something
00:48:07you've become
00:48:09something else
00:48:09you can still
00:48:10evolve into
00:48:11something else
00:48:12and bring
00:48:13the rest
00:48:14of us
00:48:14with you
00:48:15I
00:48:16earlier
00:48:16in February
00:48:17had a
00:48:18discussion
00:48:19with someone
00:48:20about Judas
00:48:21and you might
00:48:22think well
00:48:22what does that
00:48:23have to do
00:48:23with it
00:48:24do your
00:48:25story about
00:48:26being
00:48:27kind of
00:48:28a miracle
00:48:28guided
00:48:29through it
00:48:30because God
00:48:31wasn't done
00:48:31with you
00:48:32yet
00:48:32Judas
00:48:33was one
00:48:34thing
00:48:34he
00:48:35temporarily
00:48:36became
00:48:37another
00:48:38as part
00:48:39of God's
00:48:40will
00:48:40uh oh
00:48:41I froze
00:48:42there
00:48:43can you
00:48:45still hear
00:48:45me
00:48:45okay
00:48:46I'm back
00:48:46but Judas
00:48:49needed to
00:48:50betray
00:48:51Christ
00:48:52it was
00:48:52part of
00:48:53God's
00:48:53plan
00:48:54for him
00:48:54to become
00:48:55the final
00:48:56blood
00:48:57sacrifice
00:48:58and then
00:48:58Judas
00:48:59again
00:48:59evolved
00:49:00again
00:49:01beyond
00:49:01that
00:49:02you have
00:49:02to look
00:49:03at
00:49:03Judas's
00:49:04whole
00:49:05life
00:49:05to
00:49:06understand
00:49:07his
00:49:08point
00:49:08his
00:49:09purpose
00:49:09he had
00:49:10free will
00:49:11his free
00:49:12will
00:49:12was kind
00:49:13of
00:49:13co-opted
00:49:14temporarily
00:49:15to betray
00:49:16Christ
00:49:17because that
00:49:18had to be
00:49:18done
00:49:19and then
00:49:20his free
00:49:20will
00:49:21was
00:49:21returned
00:49:22to him
00:49:22uh
00:49:23kind of
00:49:24a convoluted
00:49:25story
00:49:25but
00:49:26I
00:49:27I
00:49:27think
00:49:28if anyone's
00:49:29gonna
00:49:29understand
00:49:30it
00:49:30you
00:49:30understand
00:49:31what I'm
00:49:32getting at
00:49:32there
00:49:33oh
00:49:33I do
00:49:34um
00:49:34and it's
00:49:35the choice
00:49:35you have
00:49:36a choice
00:49:37now to
00:49:37evolve
00:49:38on
00:49:38to
00:49:39not
00:49:39erase
00:49:40what you've
00:49:41been
00:49:41through
00:49:42make it
00:49:43part of
00:49:43the new

00:50:35know
00:50:35that Judas
00:50:36has to
00:50:37betray
00:50:37him
00:50:38and it's
00:50:38a necessary
00:50:39part of
00:50:40the story
00:50:40and Judas
00:50:42has to
00:50:43say yes
00:50:43to that
00:50:44horrible
00:50:45fate
00:50:45yes
00:50:46and it's
00:50:48why Christ
00:50:49said on
00:50:50the cross
00:50:50father
00:50:51forgive them
00:50:52they know

00:53:50also
00:53:50everything
00:53:51has its
00:53:51end
00:53:52and
00:53:53our
00:53:54free will
00:53:55it's not
00:53:56so easy
00:53:56delightful
00:53:58but our
00:53:58free will
00:53:59has to
00:53:59also say
00:54:00yes
00:54:00things
00:54:01have to
00:54:01end
00:54:02so thank
00:54:03you
00:54:03bless you
00:54:04I honor
00:54:05your work
00:54:05and what
00:54:06we shared
00:54:06and
00:54:07yeah I
00:54:08just had
00:54:09another show
00:54:10in February
00:54:12I had
00:54:13another guest
00:54:13that was
00:54:14supposed to
00:54:14come on
00:54:15talk about
00:54:15trauma
00:54:16that fell
00:54:17through
00:54:17and I
00:54:17did
00:54:18just a
00:54:19monologue
00:54:19show on
00:54:20it
00:54:20dropped
00:54:21as a
00:54:21video
00:54:22exclusive
00:54:23only
00:54:23about
00:54:24trauma
00:54:25in that
00:54:26the Bible
00:54:28is complex
00:54:29and complicated
00:54:30at times
00:54:31you have
00:54:31the whole
00:54:32reason
00:54:33the show
00:54:33was created
00:54:34was the
00:54:36whole Bible
00:54:37in full
00:54:38context
00:54:39and it's
00:54:40difficult
00:54:40at times
00:54:41for our
00:54:42human brains
00:54:43to wrap
00:54:44around
00:54:44it's above
00:54:46our pay
00:54:47grade
00:54:47at times
00:54:49there are
00:54:51things
00:54:51that some
00:54:52people
00:54:53think
00:54:53may be
00:54:54contradictory
00:54:55but they're
00:54:56not really
00:54:57when you
00:54:58look at
00:54:58them
00:54:59properly
00:54:59in the
00:55:00full
00:55:00context
00:55:01but it
00:55:02can be
00:55:02difficult
00:55:03at times
00:55:04to wrap
00:55:05our
00:55:05children
00:55:06we are
00:55:07but children
00:55:08to God
00:55:08our child
00:55:10brains
00:55:10around
00:55:11yes
00:55:12oh
00:55:14what
00:55:15what happened
00:55:16oh you're
00:55:17grabbing
00:55:17something
00:55:18okay
00:55:18I'll stall
00:55:19for time
00:55:20while you're
00:55:21looking for
00:55:21whatever it is
00:55:22you're looking
00:55:23for
00:55:23okay
00:55:26can't find
00:55:27it
00:55:27can't find
00:55:28it on my
00:55:28oh yeah
00:55:29there it is
00:55:30okay
00:55:31yeah
00:55:33I'll leave
00:55:34all this in
00:55:35is right
00:55:35yeah well
00:55:36please do
00:55:39this is my
00:55:40military
00:55:41issue
00:55:42holy bible
00:55:43okay
00:55:44there's
00:55:45look at
00:55:46all of
00:55:47the
00:55:48um
00:55:49the bookmarks
00:55:50the post
00:55:52notes
00:55:52yeah
00:55:53yeah
00:55:54every place
00:55:55that I read
00:55:56that's relevant
00:55:57and
00:55:58uh
00:55:58I was the
00:55:59subject matter
00:56:00expert
00:56:01chosen by
00:56:02the pentagon
00:56:03chief of
00:56:03chaplains
00:56:04for a
00:56:05decade
00:56:05teaching our
00:56:07military about
00:56:07ptsd and
00:56:08moral injury
00:56:09I went back
00:56:10and I did
00:56:10the most
00:56:11intensive bible
00:56:11study of my
00:56:12life
00:56:13so I
00:56:13would
00:56:13working with
00:56:14the chaplains
00:56:15I gotta
00:56:15know it
00:56:16as good
00:56:16well as
00:56:16they do
00:56:17so
00:56:18minutely
00:56:19carefully
00:56:19I
00:56:21noted
00:56:22everything
00:56:22related to
00:56:23war and
00:56:24violence
00:56:24and that
00:56:25we might
00:56:25need to
00:56:26understand
00:56:27and it's
00:56:28unlikely
00:56:28anyone is
00:56:29ever going
00:56:30to be
00:56:31able to
00:56:32memorize
00:56:32unless if
00:56:33you're like
00:56:34Sheldon
00:56:35from the
00:56:36big bang
00:56:36theory with
00:56:38an endemic
00:56:40memory
00:56:40photographic
00:56:41memory
00:56:42often referred
00:56:43you're not
00:56:44able to
00:56:44memorize
00:56:45all of it
00:56:47you just
00:56:47need to
00:56:48remember
00:56:48the
00:56:49contexts
00:56:50of them
00:56:51and certain
00:56:52scriptures
00:56:52indeed that
00:56:53you can
00:56:54then refer
00:56:55back to
00:56:55yes and
00:56:56carry them
00:56:57in your
00:56:57heart for
00:56:58strength
00:56:58every time
00:56:59you need
00:57:00them
00:57:00yes
00:57:01okay so
00:57:02this time
00:57:03we really
00:57:04are going
00:57:05to wrap
00:57:05it up
00:57:07thank you
00:57:08again Edward
00:57:09it was a
00:57:09great talk
00:57:11I don't know
00:57:12exactly when
00:57:14this will air
00:57:14but through
00:57:15pod match
00:57:16I will of
00:57:17course let
00:57:18you know
00:57:19I might
00:57:20apologies to
00:57:21others
00:57:22I may move
00:57:23it forward a
00:57:24bit because
00:57:25I've referred
00:57:25to episode
00:57:26like the
00:57:27Judas
00:57:27one and
00:57:28that other
00:57:29behind the
00:57:29scenes that
00:57:30dropped in
00:57:31February it
00:57:32makes more
00:57:33sense if
00:57:33they're hearing
00:57:34this in
00:57:35March rather
00:57:36than June so
00:57:38I might move
00:57:38it up but
00:57:39either way I'll
00:57:40let you know
00:57:41and when we
00:57:42know when it's
00:57:43airing I will
00:57:44circulate it
00:57:44far and wide
00:57:45as well
00:57:45that's why I
00:57:46record some
00:57:47ahead and
00:57:49then we can
00:57:49shuffle them
00:57:50as need be
00:57:51that's the
00:57:53chaotic creative
00:57:54process
00:57:55yes
00:57:56all right
00:57:58take care
00:57:59god bless
00:58:00love you
00:58:01brother
00:58:01I hate
00:58:03to extend
00:58:04this show
00:58:05since I
00:58:06already went
00:58:07longer with
00:58:09Edward Tick
00:58:11but I feel
00:58:13like it
00:58:13important that
00:58:15I add this
00:58:16extra segment
00:58:20I didn't
00:58:22want to
00:58:22re-litigate
00:58:24the conflicts
00:58:26discussed
00:58:27during the
00:58:28episode because
00:58:29it wasn't the
00:58:30point and
00:58:31purpose of
00:58:32the episode
00:58:33so regardless
00:58:35of your
00:58:36opinion
00:58:36the merits
00:58:38of or the
00:58:40lack thereof
00:58:41any merit
00:58:42of any of
00:58:43the given
00:58:44conflicts that
00:58:45we discussed
00:58:47herein
00:58:47I didn't
00:58:49want to
00:58:50re-litigate
00:58:51them during
00:58:52the episode
00:58:52and didn't
00:58:53and I don't
00:58:55want to do
00:58:56that now
00:58:56that's not
00:58:57to say I'm
00:58:59afraid to
00:59:00discuss it
00:59:01or may
00:59:02not discuss
00:59:03it with
00:59:04another guest
00:59:05at another
00:59:06time in
00:59:07an episode
00:59:08where it
00:59:09is actually
00:59:11meant to
00:59:11indeed talk
00:59:13about those
00:59:15wars and
00:59:16the arguments
00:59:18for the
00:59:18arguments
00:59:19against and
00:59:20what not
00:59:22now we
00:59:24cannot prove
00:59:25a negative
00:59:26what Edward
00:59:28was saying
00:59:30that I
00:59:30agreed with
00:59:31that any
00:59:33peoples on
00:59:36their own
00:59:37soil
00:59:37deemed as
00:59:40defending their
00:59:42own soil
00:59:43whether on
00:59:44the side
00:59:45of good
00:59:46or bad
00:59:47psychologically
00:59:49from the
00:59:50human condition
00:59:52human nature
00:59:53standpoint
00:59:53I agree
00:59:55wholeheartedly
00:59:56with Edward
00:59:57it's easier
00:59:58to justify
01:00:00that in
01:00:01your mind
01:00:02if someone
01:00:03has come
01:00:04onto your
01:00:05soil
01:00:06now that
01:00:08doesn't
01:00:08mean
01:00:10the
01:00:11invader
01:00:12may or
01:00:13may not
01:00:14have had
01:00:15good reason
01:00:16to be
01:00:16there
01:00:17it doesn't
01:00:18change who
01:00:19invaded who
01:00:20but
01:00:21like we
01:00:23were talking
01:00:24preemptive
01:00:25war
01:00:26for example
01:00:28the domino
01:00:30theory
01:00:30Korea
01:00:32and
01:00:33Vietnam
01:00:34did
01:00:36the
01:00:37theory
01:00:37is
01:00:38the
01:00:39theory
01:00:39was
01:00:40the
01:00:40theory
01:00:41remains
01:00:42it
01:00:43will
01:00:43prevent
01:00:44a
01:00:44broader
01:00:45war
01:00:46the
01:00:46regional
01:00:47smaller
01:00:48conflicts
01:00:48will
01:00:49prevent
01:00:50World
01:00:51War
01:00:513
01:00:52in the
01:00:53terms
01:00:54and on
01:00:54the scale
01:00:55of what
01:00:56World War
01:00:561 and
01:00:57World War
01:00:582 was
01:00:58now
01:00:59did
01:01:00and was
01:01:01fighting
01:01:02those wars
01:01:04did
01:01:05that
01:01:06present
01:01:07World War
01:01:083
01:01:08you can
01:01:10argue
01:01:10yes
01:01:11you can
01:01:12argue
01:01:12maybe
01:01:13no
01:01:13the
01:01:14fact
01:01:15is
01:01:16the
01:01:16reality
01:01:17is
01:01:18indeed
01:01:19World War
01:01:203
01:01:20did
01:01:21not
01:01:22happen
01:01:22yet
01:01:24does
01:01:25that
01:01:25prove
01:01:26the
01:01:26domino
01:01:27theory
01:01:27correct
01:01:28and true
01:01:30again
01:01:31you can
01:01:31argue
01:01:32yes
01:01:33because
01:01:33indeed
01:01:34World War
01:01:353
01:01:35didn't
01:01:36happen
01:01:36but you
01:01:37can also
01:01:38argue
01:01:38that it
01:01:39wouldn't
01:01:40have
01:01:40happened
01:01:40even
01:01:41without
01:01:42those
01:01:42wars
01:01:43it's a
01:01:44matter
01:01:45of
01:01:45perspective
01:01:46and
01:01:46opinion
01:01:47you
01:01:47cannot
01:01:48prove
01:01:49a
01:01:49negative
01:01:50unless
01:01:51we
01:01:51if you're
01:01:53a fan
01:01:53of the
01:01:54sci-fi
01:01:55Stargate
01:01:56series
01:01:56as I
01:01:57was
01:01:57unless
01:01:58we
01:01:59come
01:01:59across
01:02:00a
01:02:01quantum
01:02:01mirror
01:02:02where
01:02:03we
01:02:03can
01:02:03look
01:02:04into
01:02:04alternate
01:02:05dimensions
01:02:06and
01:02:06alternate
01:02:07realities
01:02:08and
01:02:08alternate
01:02:09timelines
01:02:10to see
01:02:11how
01:02:12this or
01:02:13that would
01:02:13have played
01:02:14out if
01:02:15it were
01:02:15different
01:02:16and even
01:02:17then
01:02:18it doesn't
01:02:19prove it
01:02:20would have
01:02:21been the
01:02:21case
01:02:22in our
01:02:23plane of
01:02:24reality
01:02:25because
01:02:26our
01:02:26plane of
01:02:27reality
01:02:28would
01:02:29not
01:02:29is not
01:02:31exactly
01:02:32the same
01:02:33as those
01:02:33other
01:02:34planes of
01:02:35realities
01:02:36dimensions
01:02:37timelines
01:02:38if
01:02:39you're
01:02:41open
01:02:41to
01:02:42Einstein
01:02:43and others
01:02:44saying such
01:02:45things are
01:02:46real
01:02:47could happen
01:02:48probably are
01:02:49happening
01:02:50but we
01:02:52can't
01:02:52traverse
01:02:53dimensions
01:02:53doesn't
01:02:54mean
01:02:54others
01:02:55can't
01:02:55so
01:02:57I
01:02:59understand
01:03:00I'm
01:03:00sounding
01:03:01kind of
01:03:01convoluted
01:03:02here
01:03:03I
01:03:03understand
01:03:04I'm
01:03:04sounding
01:03:05kind of
01:03:08standoffish
01:03:09for lack
01:03:10of better
01:03:10words
