00:00One of these grades on these NFL report cards, the NFL PA, as I think personally as a way to
00:07help negotiate to some degree and hopefully increase the quality and the caliber of their working environments, put out yearly
00:15an NFL report card in which NFL players vote on various different categories when it comes to the ownership, the
00:23team that they play for, and the amenities that they have available to them.
00:27And we've got that. We've got that for the Texans. We've got that for the entirety of the league. There
00:33were some interesting things that came through with this.
00:35And like I said, the one that got me was a really positive grade, which was offensive coordinator.
00:41When it comes to offensive coordinator, you can see this around the league and all the different places, but the
00:46Houston Texans, when you look at offensive coordinator, they got an A minus.
00:52And I was very intrigued by that because if you ask the fans, if you ask us in the media
00:57how we felt and what our grade would be for Nick Cayley, I don't know that.
01:02Well, definitely wouldn't have averaged to an A minus. I wonder how many people would have given it an A
01:07minus.
01:07I don't know if the top grade would have been an A minus.
01:09I think this speaks to the communication skills, energy, you know, all the things that we've seen from.
01:16And we don't know ball.
01:17It's possible.
01:18We don't know ball.
01:19Maybe that's so.
01:20You guys don't know the game.
01:21I think it speaks to a lot of that.
01:22You've never played, in fact.
01:23I've heard that often.
01:24Everybody knows what he wants, and he communicates it well, and he has the energy.
01:31I think that's that.
01:33That's not what stood out to me.
01:34What stood out to me is, and I'm not going to make a lot of fans happy here, but I
01:40think it's pretty clear.
01:41Let's go through all their grades.
01:43And it goes from ownership and head coach all the way to food and dining and nutrition, which we know
01:47those are going to be A's, right?
01:49We've talked about that.
01:50Everybody talks about that.
01:51Man, the honor roll with that.
01:52Let me just give you the grades.
01:53A, A minus, A minus, B minus, B minus, A, A, A minus, A, B plus, A, A.
01:58What are you talking about?
01:59Oh, just the various different things.
02:00All the grades of all the categories, A, A, A, A.
02:04There's a lot more B's on there.
02:06All we've seen is A's and a couple of B minuses, right?
02:09Except for one thing.
02:11Home field, C.
02:13C plus.
02:14Yeah, C plus.
02:14Hey, come on, you know.
02:15Yeah, yeah, C plus.
02:16There's a difference between a 77 and a 71.
02:18Come on now.
02:19Yeah, but that's still a C.
02:21And to me, what stands out, that's not the facility.
02:24That's not the field.
02:26That's not, you know, the locker rooms.
02:28That's the fans, man.
02:30That's the environment.
02:32That, to me, speaks to the environment at NRG Stadium.
02:35It's the fans not getting there in time.
02:37It's the stands being half empty.
02:39There's so much to do in Houston, Lopez.
02:41Yeah, I know it.
02:41Yeah, and most significantly, I think.
02:43We take it easy over here, man.
02:44I think it's fans selling their tickets to opposing teams.
02:48This is one thing that.
02:51And this is the players saying this, basically.
02:52Yes, it's the players.
02:53It's not me.
02:55The players saying home field.
02:57I ain't do it.
02:58Don't bring it to John P. Lopez.
02:59I ain't do it.
03:00My palms are up.
03:02My palms are up.
03:03I would have given him a B plus, personally.
03:06I mean, look at this.
03:07You look at the grades when they line them up.
03:08It's A, A, A, A, A, B minus, B minus, A, A, A, A, A, A, C, C plus.
03:14Dude, that's the player.
03:15That's that one grade.
03:16Your mom would be like, hey, what's going on right here?
03:18You're like, ma, you see all these A's and B's I got?
03:20Yeah, mine was handwriting.
03:21And you tripping about the C?
03:22Mine was handwriting.
03:23What was your excuse when your mom asked you about that?
03:25Because we all inevitably had that one grade.
03:27One of my little brothers, he's like, she just don't like me.
03:30That was mine.
03:32I still remember that when my little brother was like, nah, you don't understand.
03:35She just don't like me.
03:36And I'm like.
03:37She gave everybody a C.
03:38She don't like us.
03:39Oh, yeah, that's a good one, too.
03:40It's like, no, you got to understand.
03:41She's just a hard grade.
03:42She's just me.
03:44But seriously, dude, I mean, that's the home field from the players, C plus.
03:49And I love this in this moment.
03:51Not that this is a C plus, but the players are never going to express this straight up.
03:56Right.
03:56Directly to fans, directly to media.
03:59They're never going to because that's bad business.
04:01CJ kind of did at one point.
04:03But even then, he was just kind of like, man, y'all got to get out there.
04:07Last week was cool, but we got to be, I mean, that's probably the most you could be, you
04:12know, straightforward with it.
04:14And you brought this up before the show when we were talking about this, but it's, if it's
04:18not even the Texans, they're trying their damnedest.
04:21Hey, salute to the, to the Houston Texans.
04:23They're doing everything they can to make it easy to get there early.
04:27Yeah.
04:28Yeah.
04:28And it's still not really working, man.
04:30And it's not just them.
04:31It's all the teams here.
04:33I mean, yeah, so I thought that, that is real interesting.
04:36So yeah, that was the two dichotomies for me.
04:38It was, it was seeing a C plus there for home field, right?
04:42That home field advantage, which I think we all understand whether or not we like it,
04:47whether we want to talk about the reasons why we understand that that is a thing that
04:50happens.
04:51You, you, you could go back to the Broncos game.
04:53You could go back to the bills game.
04:54There's a number of them we could talk about even just from this year where it goes, Oh,
04:57people have descended upon Houston.
04:59And this is at work or like maybe a neutral game.
05:02Do you have all the team grays up there?
05:04Well, I'm curious other, um, the other bigger cities that kind of go through this.
05:10I'm glad you brought that up.
05:11My big takeaways.
05:13Well, interestingly enough, the Colts got a D in this.
05:16The Jags got a B plus in this.
05:19And then I was thinking about L the, uh, the Rams chargers, Miami, like those type of
05:25cities that got some of everybody from everywhere.
05:28Okay.
05:28So let me see.
05:29Uh, you, okay.
05:30When you say every, are you talking about more transient type cities?
05:32Yeah.
05:33Okay.
05:33So let's see what I can roll through here.
05:36Um, Atlanta is a really transient city C minus.
05:39So that's, that's in that same vein.
05:41Right.
05:42Um, let's see.
05:43Baltimore wouldn't count.
05:44Wow.
05:44Interesting.
05:45The Buffalo bills got an F and now that's home game field.
05:48I wonder how much that might be more field.
05:50Yeah.
05:50Maybe that's actually comes down to the field itself.
05:53And if that's the case, do you think that we're talking about the actual field level and
05:57how, how the field plays?
05:59I thought they had a good field, like the actual field.
06:04Well, there's a C minus there.
06:06The giants got an F minus.
06:07So I think we're talking about the physical field.
06:09I think, I think it's how they interpret it.
06:11Did the Jets get a C or B?
06:14That'd be funny if they got a different one.
06:15Yeah.
06:15That'd be weird.
06:16Um, but yeah, I want to circle back around to this Nick Haley, because again, where do
06:21you think this is coming from?
06:22You talk about like the, the environment, the feeling that, you know, that love or what
06:26have you, uh, of the, the, his energy, the communication, but they've defended his, like
06:32the prowess and acumen of the offense.
06:34And it really does make me wonder how much the offense was hampered by injuries because
06:39they did get hamstrung in some ways where they had to remember, they didn't want to
06:43go in with six, six, uh, offensive lineman sets.
06:45That was a necessity that they built in later with the injuries.
06:48I don't think they dug in that deep.
06:50I don't think the players were like, it feels like I'm getting a good game plan for my offense
06:54coordinator.
06:55I think that's what it was.
06:56I think it was more communication, the messaging.
06:58They appreciated what it was.
07:00I don't think they went into the whole injuries and all that stuff because they just, there's
07:03so many categories that they went through.
07:05It's like, Hey, what do you think of your offensive coordinator?
07:06A minus, you know, we, we knew what we had to do.
07:09He, he, the communication was there, energy and all that stuff that I mentioned.
07:13No, I think it was more, not superficial, but it was more just about that.
07:17Uh, the other interesting things, the Steelers, Browns and Cardinals.
07:21Well, I was going to get there because the Texans ultimately ranked seventh with all of
07:24this, which is something that I think the Texans as an ownership, as a staff, as a, as a,
07:28as a record label and a crew, right.
07:29They got to look up and be able to tip their hats themselves that they, that their
07:32players come in and with, you know, real evaluation of it, go, y'all doing a good
07:38job here.
07:38And as they're, as they're actively trying to add a headquarters and make it even
07:42better, I think that the Texans probably pat themselves on the back.
07:45Yeah.
07:45A team that has no business doing that would be the Pittsburgh Steelers ranked 32nd in
07:51all of this.
07:52I mean, buddy, they look like they need to be sent to the reform school, uh, treatment
07:57of families, F home game field, F minus.
08:00Didn't know that those were allowed, those were allowed.
08:02F minus.
08:02Locker room was an F minus.
08:04Sounds like John McClain.
08:05F minus.
08:07Team ownership.
08:08D minus.
08:10Yeah.
08:10Those are some real nasty grades that they got here from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
08:15Yeah.
08:15It's ain't like they hanging their hat on a logo right here.
08:17Yes, they are.
08:18Like, Hey, we ain't got to fix up these bathrooms.
08:20I think I seen somewhere it said only four stalls in them.
08:24And the five or five.
08:25Was it five?
08:25I sold them short.
08:26Yeah.
08:27Five stalls.
08:28Not like they got like 57 dudes at any given point in the locker room.
08:32Five is enough.
08:33Five?
08:34Yes.
08:34Good Lord.
08:35And we all know bathrooms.
08:36And you know, one of them's always clogged.
08:37That's what I'm saying.
08:38It's a whole bunch of 200, 300 pound men in there.
08:41One of those is always clogged.
08:41We tripping with these bathrooms, man.
08:43Exactly.
08:44Yeah.
08:44So I think they just hanging their hat on, Hey, this is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
08:48You want to play for that logo?
08:50Yeah.
08:50We ain't got to do nothing else.
08:51Don't worry about the bathrooms.
08:52We still got that logo.
08:53Nah, you're a Pittsburgh Steelers.
08:54That's all that matters.
08:55Well, that doesn't explain the other two at the bottom, the bottom three of the bottom
08:59three.
08:59Well, Steelers were last and then the Browns and the Cardinals.
09:03Yeah.
09:03Cardinals were 31st.
09:04And that makes sense to me.
09:05The Bidwells.
09:06That's not big.
09:07He's not been viewed as a good owner, but damn, they got a lot of stuff that's ranking
09:11really low.
09:11So, and what's funny is the Cardinals, they're building a new headquarters themselves.
09:15So maybe Bidwell goes, well, we've got to fix all of this with the new headquarters.
09:18Yeah.
09:19But that's what I was kind of thinking with the Cleveland Browns too.
09:21Maybe they just not putting no money into that.
09:24Because they're doing the same thing.
09:25That's what I, only that part.
09:27Now, I can't speak for the coach and the owner and all that stuff.
09:30Yeah.
09:30Only that part.
09:31And to me, if you look at the big picture of all these grades and everything, and by the
09:36way, this is probably the last year we're going to get to see it because owners
09:40get embarrassed?
09:41Yes.
09:42They do get embarrassed.
09:43It's one of the things when you have rich people, you're not going to hurt them with
09:46money.
09:46The only thing you can hurt them with is their pride.
09:48Yeah.
09:49I think that what's going to happen is we're not supposed to find it, but the likes of
09:54Kalen Kaler and the likes of Mike Florio, they are going to find ways to get this.
09:59And we might not get the full picture, but I think they will piece together a large swath
10:03of this to that.
10:04At the very least, we will find out who the bad actors are, which I feel like the NFL owners
10:08should have thought of, because right now we get the full thing and we can talk about
10:12how, Hey, look, the Texans, you know, you get, you get an A for your nutritionist and
10:16you get your head coach was an A minus.
10:18Interesting that it's a minus there.
10:19Right.
10:21All we're going to do is, wow.
10:23All we're hearing is that the Steelers are awful.
10:25That's all we're going to have.
10:26Yeah.
10:26We've been getting this every year recently, but the NFL owners file one, a grievance of
10:33where it's going to be more kept private.
10:35I hope you're right that, that it's made public because this is important and this is where
10:40I was going with it.
10:41To me, there is no better gauge of the question is, do you have a good owner than this?
10:48This, this, this is all about ownership, you know, whether it's hiring the right people
10:53or facilities or just a general, you know, treatment of, of players and families.
10:59That's always a big one.
11:00You know, how, how families are treated, uh, et cetera.
11:04And I think this is a, this is the best, best gauge that is even out there.
11:09And I hope we get to still see it.
11:10Will it be that easy to put a stop to this though?
11:13Because I feel like this could be something you could put in a group chat and get out
11:17somehow.
11:18I hope it does.
11:18I really do.
11:19I like it every year.
11:20I think it's very telling because it's pretty much like a survey.
11:23Yeah.
11:24You can't put a stop on a survey.
11:26Right.
11:26Well, and they're not stopping the NFL PA from being able to do this because the NFL PA
11:30said we're going to keep doing this and we're going to share it amongst our owner, our
11:34membership.
11:34Yeah.
11:35The problem is they don't want it to be public, which again, speaks to the fact that they
11:38don't care that this is happening.
11:39They care about the embarrassment and the thing about it is buddy, if you think that
11:42we're not in the surveillance state, the state that we live in, you don't think that somebody
11:45going to leak this good luck.
11:47Yeah.
11:48And then speaking of, you know, reflections of ownership and how revealing these things
11:52can be.
11:52Are you going to talk about the Titans being the 24th worst team?
11:54I'm going to talk about the Jacksonville Jaguars.
11:58This is, this was mind blowing to me.
12:01Uh, no team made a bigger jump from one year to the next than the Jacksonville Jaguars.
12:05I'll just give you a few here.
12:07Treatment of families, they went from F to a B plus head coach C to an A minus training
12:15staff, B minus to a minus strength coaches, B to a food and dining C plus to B the, and
12:22that is culture.
12:23That is Liam Cohen.
12:25They didn't get any money they've invested.
12:27Well, but, but that's part of the culture.
12:29You know, this was year one.
12:31This was year one with Liam Cohen.
12:34That's saying a lot.
12:34I think it says a whole lot about just how important when an ownership buys in with the
12:38right general manager and the right head coach, the, the entire culture has changed.
12:43The note, I mean, they jumped from where are they ranked right now?
12:47The Jacksonville Jaguars overall fifth.
12:50They're fifth now.
12:50I think they were like 22nd last year.
12:53Uh, overall, how long they've been doing these report cards, about five years, right?
12:57Something like that.
12:57Because I was curious to know what was the Texans report card with Culley and Lovie Smith.
13:03Easterby and all those guys.
13:04Yeah.
13:04From that point to D'Amico Ryan.
13:06Yeah.
13:07Like how much did that spike up?
13:08That, that really, that really jumped out to me.
13:10You know, it, it can change that quick.
13:13If you just treat people right way and do the, and get the right people in there and invest
13:17the right things too.
13:18Yeah.
13:19Well, I, I will do the work on making sure I might bring that back later on in the program,
13:23but just, uh, just to point to some of the things for the Texans coaching wise, um, head
13:29coach, I said was an a minus Nick Casario gets an a minus himself.
13:33Um, that feels like that should probably be apt, but this is from the players.
13:36Um, special teams coordinator, shout out a, uh, defensive coordinator, a, both feel like
13:42they fit offensive coordinator, a minus we talked about strength coaches, a, which apparently
13:47was where they have the white boy Wednesdays going on position coach is interestingly
13:50a B plus.
13:51I wonder what the, like, what the distinction is there.
13:54It's still good.
13:55But I wonder like with, with all of your coordinators getting a, a minus for the position coaches
14:01to be a slight step down.
14:02I wonder what that feels like that might just be like one specific thing.
14:05It's like being married 20 years.
14:06You're just around them too much.
14:08You're just around them.
14:10Or I wonder if it's perfect.
14:11I wonder if there's people on the offensive side that probably don't have like a, uh, I
14:16guess super, super tight relationship.
14:18I think it's, you're saying this is Ben McDonald's fault, McDaniel's fault.
14:21I think it's proximity, man.
14:23I think you just, you're just around them like every day, these long ass meetings.
14:26You're like, this guy's great, but man, I got to get out of here.
