00:00It's a well-known trope that dogs don't exactly get along with male people, but despite being used for comedic
00:05effect in film and television, according to the U.S. Postal Service, dog attacks are getting increasingly more common.
00:11According to metrics from the Postal Service themselves, their mail carriers suffer over 5,400 bites from dogs every year.
00:18That's nearly 15 dog attacks every single day, and makes bites the third leading cause of injury on the job.
00:24And Insider reports there have been at least two deaths related to suspected dog attacks on mail carriers in the
00:30last year alone.
00:31And now postal workers have a message for certain areas.
00:34Get your dogs under control, or you won't get your mail.
00:36Residents in certain neighborhoods in Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, and Virginia all lost mail delivery last year after repeated incidents involving
00:44animal attacks,
00:45one of which in Greenfield, Indiana, resulted in the mail carrier needing 50 stitches and nearly losing an arm during
00:51the mauling.
00:51While mail carriers are trained on how to assess situations, the carriers themselves say they are often bitten when owners
00:57tell them directly the dogs don't bite.
00:59Postal workers are now required to carry dog repellent.
