00:00But the spread lines that you need to know actually include Rhode Island
00:03and St. Bonaventure, an early start, Joe, 5 p.m. dinnertime here.
00:07It's a minus 2.5 point favorite for St. Bonaventure and a total of 144.5.
00:11Looking at some of the statistics here for St. Bonaventure,
00:14the worst defense in conference play.
00:17We'll see how that lines up tonight.
00:18We've got a 5 o'clock start.
00:19SBU Rhode Island, slight favorite to St. Bonaventure.
00:23Yeah, well, I mean, it's been a rough season for the Bonaventure, Donnie.
00:26I mean, 3-11 in the Atlantic 10, and really at this point in the season,
00:31you're just trying to improve seating for the upcoming conference tournament, right?
00:36I mean, Rhode Island now 6-8 in the Atlantic 10.
00:39They did have a huge win last week, Donnie, against St. Louis,
00:44and that was on the 17th.
00:46But, of course, right after that win, they threw up all over themselves against LaSalle.
00:51So now they're trying to bounce back here.
00:53But the Bonneys, I mean, three-game losing streak right now is just not a good situation here.
01:00Either way, we're looking at maybe an 11 seed, 13, 14 seed, somewhere along those lines.
01:07So it's a bigger game, I think, for Rhode Island to get it going, rolling in here,
01:13because I think the Bonneys very much going to be a one-and-done come tournament time.
01:17Big West action, Joe.
01:19We're going to head out to Santa Barbara, California.
01:20The Thunderdome.
01:21Yes, that is a real place here.
01:23Riverside versus Santa Barbara here.
01:25Double-digit favorite for Santa Barbara at home.
01:27Minus 10.5, Joe.
01:28And a total of 143.5.
01:30In the Big West, the number one most efficient offense.
01:32It is UCSB, which also has the best effective field goal percentage in conference play,
01:37which translates to the best three-point shooting team in conference play.
01:41It's a double-digit favorite.
01:42Just about every outlet, Joe.
01:44What's that spread line for Riverside and Santa Barbara tonight?
01:47Wow.
01:48Big, Big West battle, right?
01:49Right here, Donnie.
01:50I mean, you're talking about the gauchos here of Santa Barbara trying to solidify themselves
01:56and maybe take down the top seed out in that.
02:00And they've got a good chance of doing it.
02:02I mean, Santa Barbara for years has kind of been the class out there.
02:06But they, you know, they've had some competition here.
02:09They've got some pretty good teams in that conference this year.
02:13But it feels like, to me, this is another one of those spots where I'd much rather have
02:17UC Santa Barbara in my pocket to cover than anything else because they're playing really
02:22well offensively.
02:24They scored, what, more than 80 points in two of their last three games.
02:27They're making about 50% of their shots.
02:30They're zoned in.
02:31It's Santa Barbara a pass for me in this one.
02:34What's going on in this one, Joe?
02:36Wichita State, Memphis in the American year.
02:38Memphis has lost four straight games, but they're the favorite tonight at minus one and
02:42a half and a total of 146 and a half.
02:44Memphis still does statistically have the most efficient defense in conference play,
02:48but also 12 out of 13 on offense and efficiency.
02:51It's like they have defense and no offense and a four-game losing streak, but they are
02:54favored tonight against Wichita State.
02:56Nice spelling there on Wichita State as well.
02:58I can respect it here.
02:59I probably would have did that as well.
03:00What's that spread line, Joe?
03:01Go ahead.
03:03Yeah, well, I mean, we saw Wichita State, I believe, win the first meeting, 74-59, and
03:10they did it as a three-and-a-half-point favorite at home there.
03:14So now they've got to go on the road, but Memphis is just going through it.
03:16How they're 7-7 in conference play is beyond me.
03:21I mean, they were expecting better things here, but we could be looking at the end of
03:25Penny Hardaway's reign there over in Memphis.
03:29This is all going to be about who can make the shots, right?
03:33The Shockers are playing better now, and they're looking to kind of move up into that number
03:38two spot right now, the number two seeding come conference tournament time here.
03:43They have the talent to be able to beat Memphis.
03:47We know Memphis has the talent, but to this point, they have not been able to put it together.
03:52Dysfunction in the locker room.
03:53I think Wichita State gets it done.
03:56I'll take the point, point-and-a-half in this one here, Donnie.
03:59By the way, 13 teams in conference, Joe.
04:0113th at turning the basketball over.
04:03It's Memphis' offense here.
04:04If you're not even getting shots up, how are you supposed to win games?
04:06And if they lose tonight, that'll be a five-game losing streak for Memphis here.
04:10Oh, it's the NCAA.
04:11We always say, like, boy, they need to get some teeth back into the system here.
04:15They better be able to hold up.
04:16Because back in the day, I was like, okay, we'll send a couple guys to your school,
04:19and you better admit you did wrong, and maybe we'll give you a bowl game suspension.
04:23And back in the day, Joe, remember, like, hey, your team can't be on TV for two years,
04:26or SMU got the actual death penalty.
04:29We don't see that anymore because money drives everything,
04:31and they don't want to hurt the institution.
04:32But now the NCAA, from the athletic here, is proposing major penalties,
04:37including head coach suspensions, to deter teams from circumventing the transfer portal
04:41for schools that add non-portal players this spring and beyond.
04:44I have no idea how they enforce it.
04:46And if we've learned anything, that you can just take it to 16 different judges
04:49and get injunctions, still have those players play,
04:51and then when those players are no longer eligible anymore,
04:53you just drop the injunction, and you send them all their way to the pros.
04:56I don't buy anything.
04:58The NCAA is trying to sell me right now, Joe.
05:01No, this is all, you know, look good here, like we're actually doing something,
05:06and we're working for the betterment of the game, and yada.
05:09Yeah, no, none of that, Dottie.
05:11This is, like you said, how are you enforcing that exactly?
05:15I don't know how they do it.
05:17It's just the bark is much more dangerous than the bite, I guess, at this point,
05:23is what they think.
05:24That's Family Man from Hall & Oates right there.
05:27Leave me alone.
05:28I'm a family man.
05:29My bark is much worse than my bite.
05:31Look, we've got to bring the people into some of this 80s culture, Joe,
05:34that we know so far.
05:35But how about this?
05:36The Lakers welcoming Tony Bennett as NBA draft advisor here.
05:40I have no idea what that's going to mean, but you know what I think about this?
05:43Hey, Tony, I know you're not in the NBA.
05:45You got plenty of money from college.
05:46You retired.
05:47You were successful here.
05:48J.J. Redick might not be working out.
05:50Why don't we bring you in as a draft advisor?
05:52You see if you like the NBA game, and maybe you find yourself on the sideline.
05:57Tony Bennett, didn't he do man-eater?
06:00No, I'm kidding.
06:01But Tony Bennett, he was just at that Virginia game, too, against,
06:08was it Miami the other night.
06:11It was good to see him up there.
06:13He's still very much a big part of the University of Virginia, who is,
06:17listen, they're going to be, they could be a player here coming out of the ACC.
06:21But I kind of felt like he just wanted nothing to do with the NIL.
06:28Donnie, he was another one of these, you know, the old guard where it was like,
06:32it seemed like two weeks before the season, right?
06:35He's like, all right, I'm stepping down.
06:36You know, I'm going to be with the family.
06:39But, you know, guys like him, I was like, well, if it's not college,
06:43could it be the pros he's gunning for?
06:46And I think this moved on it.
06:48I think you're absolutely right.
06:50I think this is just a precursor to possibly him being an NBA head coach here
06:55in the very near future.
06:57Nah, coaches want to coach.
06:58Those guys are lifers.
07:00Like, yeah, so want to be with the family, then you sit back and you watch.
07:02It's like, boy, you just want to get back to work.
07:04And obviously, the human race, we are built to work.
07:06Like, it's amazing.
07:06It's like, oh, you know, I've got some time between my next job.
07:09And trust me, if you have three or four or five weeks off,
07:11you are bored out of your mind by day number three.
07:13It's like, wait, I thought I was just going to play golf every day.
07:15I don't feel like playing golf for the fourth straight day.
07:17I thought you were going fishing.
07:18I thought you were going to play video games here.
07:19By five days, you are bored out of your mind,
07:21and you want to get back to work in this.
07:22And no surprise, Tony Bennett, if he opens the door,
07:25hey, agents, start making some phone calls.
07:27Those phone calls will be picked up, answered,
07:29and he will be back on a sideline somewhere here.
07:31Washington State forward Emmanuel Ugo's suspension will last the rest of the season,
07:36said Coach David Riley.
07:37Last week, a Whitman County judge issued a one-year protection order against Ugo
07:41for a Cougar volleyball player.
07:44He hasn't played since January 28th.
07:45Yeah, never a good idea when you have a protection order against you
07:49and you want to try to get back on the court.
07:52It's like, wow.
07:54At least, Tony, common sense is prevailing in some situations here
07:58because I was a little worried about it early on in this season,
08:02but it appears that people are finally starting to come around here,
08:06which is good news.
08:07Let's get back to last night's court.
08:09And by the way, when I saw this final score, I could not believe it here.
08:1272-40.
08:13UConn beat St. John's.
08:15And yes, the screams you can hear from Karnaseka
08:18all the way up and down the East Coast.
08:20St. John's scored 14 points in the second half.
08:22St. John's couldn't make a basket if you told them
08:24they could get a million dollars per shot made.
08:27St. John's came into the game last night, Joe.
08:2915-1 in the Big East.
08:30Got a hammer by UConn.
08:31How about that one?
08:33And they had an opportunity to just lock up the one seed, right,
08:38and win the Big East crowd because they'd already beaten the Huskies earlier,
08:42a sweep against UConn, and basically they're sitting atop of the Big East
08:47heading into their tournament.
08:48But when you missed 12 straight shots in the first half
08:52and then following it up, Donnie, in the second half
08:54by missing your final 24 shots, they weren't even hitting the rim.
09:02They couldn't hit the backboard.
09:03It was laughable watching how bad they were.
09:07They were so bad, Donnie, that should have counted as two losses last night.
09:11That's how bad they were.
09:13By the way, like you see that tweet up there.
09:15It is like 24 straight shots, which means they made their last basket
09:19at 17-28 in the second half and didn't score for roughly an hour of game time
09:24the rest of the way.
09:25The longest streak in eight years.
09:26And by the way, eight years is the longest streak in 80 years.
09:29Who missed 24 straight at Division I?
09:32Horrible.
09:36Take it away, Joe.
09:37Where are we going tonight?
09:38Let's keep these wins coming.
09:40Game of the night in college basketball, Donnie,
09:43as Michigan State travels to take on Purdue at Mackey Arena here.
09:49And it's hard to believe they've both played, what, 16 conference games.
09:53They have not played one another this season yet, Donnie,
09:56which is kind of crazy.
09:58But this will be the first time.
09:59And listen, Purdue, we know them.
10:02Top 20 offense in two-point shots, three-point shots.
10:05Michigan State doesn't rank very well in either of those two.
10:09But you know what they rank really well in?
10:12Defense.
10:13And just about every defensive category as well as rebounding.
10:16And here's the problem.
10:17The top five teams in the Big Ten in effective field goal percentage defense,
10:22Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Illinois, and UCLA.
10:27Purdue has lost to three of those teams already,
10:30and they needed overtime to beat Nebraska,
10:32in which they didn't shoot all that well from three.
10:36So defense seems to be the problem for Purdue.
10:40When they play the better defensive teams, the elite ones, they struggle.
10:44The fact you want to give me seven and a half points, even at Mackey Arena,
10:48I'll take the better defense here.
10:50That's the kryptonite.
10:51I'll take Michigan State and the points here.
