00:00Today's top spread lines is what we do on the early line. It's a hump day Wednesday, the first day of October.
00:05And sometimes we spread lines, Joe Ranieri, to say, let's take a look at some of the day's games today, or maybe tomorrow.
00:10But if we have important spread lines in football and college football, most of the big games get played on a Saturday afternoon.
00:16But also spread lines are determined here to say, what's the spread and what's the headline of this game and why does it matter to me?
00:22Miami versus Florida State, one of the best rivalries in college football history, rekindles with two top 20 teams.
00:29Also, Joe, we could have had a much better, I guess, ranked game if Florida State had held on and beat Virginia, but they weren't able to do that.
00:36But Miami, Florida State, Dope Campbell Stadium, the spread right now, open three and a half, now sits at four and a half, has a favorite to the Hurricanes in a 53 and a half.
00:44Miami, Florida State, spread line for you, Joe. What is it?
00:48Well, keep in mind here, I mean, this one's a huge one, especially for Miami, Donnie, because if they win,
00:54their path to the ACC championship game is about as easy and as carved out as humanly possible here, because Miami, I mean, SMU, they're going to be a big favorite.
01:08They're going to be just about a big favorite, almost two touchdowns in every game from here on out.
01:14So if they win this game, they punch their ticket to the college football playoff, barring any sort of, you know, you know, disaster that we have seen in years past.
01:24But the look at line for this was Miami six, six turned into five and a half, five and a half turned into five, five to four and a half.
01:31Now we're seeing fours, Donnie, in this. It has been a steady stream of Florida State money in the marketplace.
01:39But the thing that I'm keeping an eye on here, keep an eye on this total. Why? It hasn't moved.
01:46We're talking about a offense in Florida State that averages 55 points a game here, Donnie, that just got exposed by Virginia of all teams here.
01:56And now while Miami's defense only given up just about 15 points a game, let's be realistic.
02:03They haven't faced anybody, the caliber of Florida State's offense just yet.
02:07Notre Dame was able to put money on it. Why is this still at 54? It is not moved.
02:13I would grab it now because I think there's going to be a ton of over money before kickoff.
02:19Let's go. Miami, Florida State, Saturday night in the ACC, the place to be here.
02:24Let's slip it up here. How about this? Oklahoma State and Arizona.
02:26Arizona opened up as a 16.5 point favorite, Joe. We're now seeing 20.5s in the marketplace in a 55.5 total.
02:33Oklahoma State post-Gundy right now. What's the spread line here, Joe?
02:38All right. So listen, this is hilarious. And I have to mention this, Donnie, because it's my alma mater.
02:43But you're right. They fired Gundy, right? And then the first game after Gundy is Baylor last week.
02:49And listen, they looked way more competent against Baylor than they did against anybody else, right?
02:56The problem is, yeah, they gave up over 600 yards of offense to Baylor at home last week, Donnie.
03:04So you know what Oklahoma State did? They now fired their defensive coordinator, Todd Grantham, after this game.
03:11So now, I don't know. Do you get the push for the fired coordinators as you got them for the head coach?
03:18The bottom line is, whether it's Grantham, you, me, or anybody else coaching the defense of Oklahoma State, the reality is team totals absolutely on the docket for anybody Oklahoma State plays, including this one against Arizona, Donnie.
03:37They are a hot mess, this team. A lot of different ways to fade Oklahoma State moving forward this season.
03:44What it feels to me, Joe, is a lot of jailbreaks in that secondary there where nobody knows what they're doing.
03:48And guys will be wide open this weekend. Something to watch out for.
03:51How about Duke and California? Weird to say that this is an ACC game, but it is, Joe.
03:55Duke on the road, a favorite of two and a half to three, depending on where you're shopping at.
03:58And a total now up to 56 and a half, which was posted at 52 and a half.
04:02The spread line for Duke, California. What is it, Joe?
04:05Yeah, starting to see those two and a halves here now opened up with Duke at three and a half.
04:10But you nailed it, Donnie. The spread line here to keep in mind is that, yes, this is an ACC game.
04:15But when you look at what these two teams, the traveling that they have had to do, Duke has now got to travel cross country.
04:24And we know that teams that have to keep doing this whole crisscross thing here, and that's the biggest issue with the ACC.
04:30Yeah, it's not great.
04:32I mean, we're talking Duke crossing three time zones to play at 10.30 p.m. internal time, which is not great here.
04:39This is the third road game in four weeks for Duke.
04:43They traveled to Syracuse.
04:44They traveled to Tulane.
04:46Now they're traveling to Cal.
04:47And by the way, Cal is returning home after back-to-back road games.
04:52They had to cross three trips as well.
04:54San Diego State, now Boston College.
04:56Now they've got to travel back home here.
04:58So both these teams are going to be very road-weary here.
05:03I'd be careful if you think one team has a leg up on the other in this one.
05:07It's a hump day Wednesday right here on the early line.
05:09It's a sports grid network.
05:10Yes, we set the table each and every day.
05:12You know this, people.
05:13But also, we still got to set that plate.
05:15We got to put that fork down.
05:17We got to put that glass down and tell you exactly what's going to happen overall this weekend.
05:21We just went over a lot of games this weekend for Sunday NFL.
05:24And I'll tell you what I do like about this, Joe.
05:25Every time we talk about it, like, we'll look at lines ourselves.
05:29Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, try to get handicapped.
05:31And sometimes you, like, talk it through and you go, ooh, I think some of those angles are really good for this game.
05:37So just the conversation alone between me and you could spur that energy that the people are like, you know what?
05:43I got to get involved on that line early today, Joe.
05:46How about that?
05:47That's what it's all about.
05:48It's about getting the best number you can, giving yourself the best edge as possible, Donnie.
05:55Knowledge is power, my man, but timing is everything.
05:59Absolutely, it is.
05:59And timing right now for the AP poll, the top 25 here.
06:02Ohio State, one.
06:04Oregon, two.
06:05The U, three.
06:06Ole Miss at number four.
06:08And OU, which is Oklahoma, at number five.
06:11The same usual suspects typically, but Miami should have been in that two spot here.
06:16They got a chance to maybe get back to that two spot.
06:18They, Joe, got a tough game this weekend at Florida State.
06:21Their rival, Miami, is the favorite here.
06:23And I know you were looking at the angle.
06:25Not so much who's going to win that game, but, boy, there could be some advantages for these offenses to really get after it.
06:31Well, I mean, listen, look at this.
06:3453 and a half.
06:35It opened up 54, Donnie.
06:36The total to me is going to be fascinating because I think it can only go one way.
06:40I think it's going to go up here.
06:42You got a Florida State team with Gus Malzahn as your offensive coordinator with a mobile quarterback
06:47who is used to playing Miami coming from Boston College.
06:51They are putting up points.
06:53Make no mistake about it.
06:55And as good as the defense has been for Miami, this is their real first test here away from home
07:01against a legit offense averaging 55 and a half points a game.
07:05And just call me crazy, you know, it's not like Carson Beck's a freshman here.
07:10This guy has been there.
07:12He has done that.
07:13The defense of Florida State got a little bit exposed last week against Virginia, didn't they?
07:18I think points are coming in this one, Donnie.
07:21I think right now, sooner rather than later, if you are looking to bet the over,
07:26if you think this is going to be an under, I think you can wait until kickoff
07:31because I see this line only going one way, and that is up.
07:34Like, I'm a Miami Hurricanes fan, right?
07:36But college football is better when Miami is relevant, when Florida State is relevant,
07:40when Florida, who's not relevant this year, is relevant because it just adds to the intrigue here.
07:44And no matter what you say, I don't like Florida State, the rival of Miami.
07:49But, boy, I wasn't rooting for them to lose against Virginia because I knew those stakes of two top 10 teams
07:53the way it always felt like it was for 15 years meeting.
07:56Still two top 20 teams here.
07:58Doe Campbell's going to be on fire.
07:59A lot of fun, and also extra preparation time for the Miami Hurricanes
08:03and not so much there for the Florida State Seminoles.
08:06Game number two, we'll talk about Vanderbilt and Alabama.
08:08What?
08:09What's that line, Joe?
08:1056 and a half?
08:11No, it isn't.
08:12It's actually double digits, though, at 10 and a half.
08:14But Vanderbilt and Alabama, both ranked, playing at Brian Denny and Tuscaloosa.
08:19How about that, Joe?
08:21Yeah, absolutely unreal, right?
08:23Diego Pavia, here we go.
08:25Can they do it twice, Donnie?
08:26Can they upended them last year?
08:28Can they do it again this year?
08:31I don't think so.
08:32But this is another one where it would not shock me if we get some sort of crazy shootout and a ton of points here.
08:38Because that is legit the only way Vandy is going to have an opportunity to win this game.
08:43His Pavia has got to play out of his mind.
08:45And I think points are coming in this one as well.
08:49Ah, it should be a lot of fun.
08:50And again, I can't imagine, because this isn't your grandfather's Vanderbilt team where everybody just beats you around.
08:54The only reason that they're in the SEC is because they can raid the GPA of the other schools here.
08:58All those jokes.
08:59They play quality football now.
09:00But can you imagine back-to-back victories for Vanderbilt over Alabama, including one of those games at Alabama?
09:06If you would have asked me 10 years ago, Nick Saban, like, this is a doormat game and an easy one that you just look at as a bye week.
09:12That's no longer the case.
09:13So some fun times here.
09:14Vanderbilt at Alabama is a major football game.
09:17Never thought I'd be saying those words.
09:19But here we are at this point right now.
09:21Let's take a look at another state of team.
09:23Excuse me.
09:23Another team from the state of Florida.
09:25That's the Gators.
09:26They're at home against Texas.
09:28Arch Manning coming to town.
09:30I don't like the Gators.
09:31I don't think they're that good.
09:31But something tells me this game, Joe.
09:3341.5 is a total.
09:35Spread between 6.5 and 7 where you're watching.
09:37Why am I being drawn over to the Florida Gators side as they can keep this one close?
09:42Am I wrong?
09:43Well, because you don't trust Arch Manning on the road against what is going to be the best defense that he has seen.
09:51He saw a pretty good one in Ohio State, by the way, which flustered him all over the place.
09:55And, yes, this could be.
09:58Listen, the reason that Florida is where they're at right now has absolutely nothing to do with the defense.
10:02The defense has kept them in spots.
10:05Now you're expecting them coming off a bye week.
10:08What better way to get the season back on track than beating Texas in the swamp here?
10:13And they're going to do it with the defense here.
10:15Listen, Lagway has had some issues here.
10:18But I do think a week off, perfect anecdote here to take as many points as you want with the Gators at home.
10:25Because I don't trust this Texas team to run away from anybody offensively.
10:30Ah, the spirit of Mr. 2-Bitch Joe going to be on fire for that game here, hoping that the Florida Gators can pull an upset over Texas, which would be comical for me.
10:39And where would that leave Arch Manning?
10:41Because let me tell you something right now.
10:42A total 41.5 in Florida wins that game.
10:44That means you didn't have great offense for Texas.
10:46And then the questions really start them out of what you actually have at quarterback in that situation.
10:51Let's keep moving down the list.
10:52Boise and Notre Dame.
10:53Coming into the season, we probably thought this might be a top 10 team in Notre Dame, at least rankings-wise, taking on a ranked Boise State team.
11:00Not the case.
11:01Boise State's starting to fire back up after taking that opening day loss against USF.
11:05But Notre Dame, that offense is getting into gear.
11:08They didn't trust C.J. Carr against Miami when they should have.
11:11They've been trusting him since.
11:13And he's paid them back.
11:14Now, granted, they did lose to A&M.
11:16But two games where that offense is going up and down the field.
11:18And you know what?
11:19They're going to do it again this weekend, Joe.
11:22Yeah, I love this offense at Notre Dame.
11:24It's one of the best offenses, the most electric offenses that they've had.
11:29Well, now they've got the running game going here.
11:32Yes.
11:33And I love this kid Carr, man.
11:35The freshman really started.
11:36I loved him.
11:37I thought he was great in the opening game against Miami.
11:40And Miami, how calm, cool, collective is.
11:42And he was slinging the ball around.
11:44He's only going to get better.
11:46He's only going to get more confidence.
11:48And listen, we saw Boise State go up against, you know, South Florida.
11:52This is not your typical Boise State season here or player-wise here.
11:58A lot of new moving parts there.
12:00They got a good quarterback.
12:02Wouldn't shock me, Donnie, if we get a ton of points in this one either.
12:05But I think Notre Dame is just too much.
12:07I love it.
12:08Like, when you have a running game that is as sound as they have, the best one-two.
12:11Like, I always, like, look at, like, you know, Singleton and Allen in Penn State.
12:15They're phenomenal.
12:16I'm telling you right now, 1-1-A with Notre Dame.
12:18Notre Dame's back.
12:19Jeremiah Love scored four times in the first half alone.
12:22And Kadarian Price, if he went anywhere but Notre Dame, would be a flat-out superstar and your lead tailback here.
12:27I like what I'm seeing out of Notre Dame.
12:29And, again, I'm telling you, they will be in the college football playoff because they're going to run the table.
12:33And nobody's leaving out Notre Dame when 10 straight victories, baby, the hottest in the nation.
12:38Keep an eye on that.
12:39Wisconsin and Michigan, a Big Ten battle, 15-and-a-half to 16-and-a-half as a favorite for the home team here.
12:45The Wolverines going up against the Badges of Wisconsin.
12:48Wisconsin, low total, Joe, 42-and-a-half.
12:51Two-and-two versus three-and-one.
12:54They are awful, Wisconsin.
12:56I mean, my goodness.
12:57They are just not – I don't know what – they can't figure out – I just don't know what they are anymore.
13:03They went – you know, they tried this fail experiment here of trying to be this run-and-gun offense that didn't work.
13:09And now they're trying to go back to be ground-and-pound.
13:12And it's just not working out with Luke Fickle, I think, who, quite honestly, is a lame-duck head coach here.
13:19I think Wisconsin is going to pick up the pieces and have to start over.
13:23I think this is all Michigan here.
13:25Would not shock me at all if this is a blowout at the big house here for Michigan.
13:30By the way, let me squeeze in another one, a tight game this weekend.
13:34Oklahoma-Kent State, Joe.
13:36Minus 45-and-a-half for Oklahoma.
13:38The total is only 53-and-a-half.
13:41So my question to you, one touchdown or no touchdowns for Kent State?
13:49Kent State's team total is two-and-a-half, Donnie.
13:53So it's not even a question of a touchdown.
13:55It's a question of whether or not they get a field goal.
13:58And they've already scored at least 10 points against other power four schools here.
14:04If you don't think that backdoor team total cover is available for them, you're out of your mind.
14:10There will be backups and third stringers playing in the third quarter for OU, Donnie,
14:14who's without their starting quarterback.
14:16I would definitely take the team total over.
