00:00Liverpool City Council is set to recruit dozens of new staff to strengthen enforcement in
00:06the private rented sector.
00:08Under the City's Selective Landlord Licensing Scheme, around 46,000 rented homes in designated
00:14areas must meet minimum safety standards.
00:18Seven officers will be appointed immediately to target unlicensed properties and suspected
00:24criminal activity.
00:25A further 27 posts are planned over the next financial year, ahead of the Renters' Rights
00:31Act 2025, coming into force on 1 May.
00:35The Council says funding will come from licensing income and government support.
00:40A consultation is also planned on extending licensing citywide.
