00:01More than 1,600 households across Liverpool are in temporary accommodation, with some having to be
00:07housed outside the city. Homelessness continues to be one of the growing cost pressures facing
00:12Liverpool Council, with unprecedented demand on the city's Housing Solutions service.
00:17With no-fault evictions increasing prior to the Renters Rights Bill being introduced last year,
00:22family breakdowns and affordability concerns all adding to pressures, the local authority
00:27has found itself spending more and more on temporary housing. As of December last year,
00:32£23 million had been allocated to provisions. In a bid to get more people out of temporary solutions,
00:39Liverpool Council is proposing a contract award to PERC UK Limited for an initial period of two years
00:45worth £40 million. This could go up to £90 million if extended to four years. Under new terms agreed
00:53with PERC, placements include self-contained units of accommodation and hotel accommodation.
00:58The rates for self-contained accommodation have been reduced to an average of £57 a night
01:03as the number of units has increased to more than 1,300. According to Liverpool Council,
01:09hotel use has been reduced to 277 rooms. No families are currently in hotel accommodation
01:16for more than six weeks. Officials emphasise ongoing monitoring to ensure
01:22accommodation meets safety and quality standards for residents while controlling expenditure.
