00:00A contractor died while nine other people were injured in an explosion involving an air-conditioning compressor at Help University in Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur this morning.
00:10The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said the explosion occurred in the air-conditioning compressor room located within the fourth-floor cafeteria while maintenance works were being carried out.
00:21In a statement, it said the blast caused about 30% structural damage to the fourth floor but did not result in a fire.
00:28Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Fadil Marso said some of the victims were in critical condition after being injured by debris from the powerful blast, Berita Haryon reported.
00:39Fadil said the explosion is believed to have been caused by a gas leak from the air-conditioning compressor while technicians were repairing the system at the time of the incident.
00:48He said investigations so far have found no elements of criminal activity in the incident, adding that of the nine injured, two were contractors.
00:57One was a member of the university's management, two were foreign cafeteria workers, and four were students.
