00:02The Northeast is digging out this morning after a historic bomb cyclone blizzard buried parts of the region under feet
00:10of snow.
00:11Meteorologists are calling it the strongest winter storm in a decade.
00:15Rhode Island took a direct hit, nearly 38 inches of snow at TF Green Airport, breaking a record that stood
00:22since 1978.
00:23The fallout is massive. More than 10,000 flights canceled from Sunday through today.
00:30At the peak, roughly 650,000 customers were without power as heavy snow and fierce winds snapped tree limbs and
00:37downed power lines.
00:38In New York City, nearly 20 inches of snow fell in Central Park.
00:43Mayor Zoran Mamdani says schools will reopen for in-person classes today, even as sidewalks remain buried.
00:49The teachers union is calling that decision a big mess.
00:53City officials, though, say crews are clearing streets and the system is ready.
00:57And this may not be over. Parts of Massachusetts and New Jersey are still dealing with more than two feet
01:03of snow.
01:04And forecasters say another fast-moving system could bring additional accumulation overnight into Wednesday,
01:10adding more snow on top of an already brutal start of the week for tens of millions of people.
