00:03This is Jennifer. Yesterday, she told us which of these three men she picked as her date. Today, we'll meet
00:09that man and find out what happened on their date. And this is Trudy. She was married for 33 years,
00:16and she's been single for about a year and a half. Which of these men did she choose? Which will
00:21our audience choose? Today on Love Connection, you'll find out who they pick, who the audience picks, and everything that
00:28happened on their dates.
00:29Now, here to tell us more about Love Connection is our host, Chuck Willery.
00:38Hi, everybody. How are you? Good to see you. Welcome to Love Connection, where we've got a new way for
00:45singles to meet, and here's how it works.
00:47Now, we've compiled a videotape library of more than 1,000 attractive and available single people.
00:52We select some of those singles and show them three videotapes. They choose the one that they're most attracted to,
00:56and they go out on a date.
00:57Then they come here, and they tell us what happened on their date.
01:00Now, to begin with, we're going to meet a woman who selected a date from our video library.
01:04She says she works hard, it makes frivolous, and she never tries to be mean or bitter.
01:09Please welcome Jennifer Ball.
01:18We just had a quick meeting like this.
01:19I know.
01:22Yesterday, you told us that you weren't sure that you'd ever get married. Ever.
01:26Why are you...
01:27I'm not very faithful, really.
01:30So, I would have to marry somebody that could understand that.
01:34Why do you find it very difficult to be faithful?
01:36I just like a lot of people.
01:38Not a lot. That's misleading.
01:40I would say, like, maybe a handful.
01:45I mean, I'm selective. It's not to say that I'm not selective, but...
01:49That's good to know.
01:51Why don't we bring everybody up to date of what happened yesterday, okay?
01:54Okay.
01:54All right. Now, we showed the audience Jennifer's three choices, and they voted on which one they thought would be
01:59best for her.
01:59First, there was Anthony. He's a 26-year-old car salesman.
02:03Then, Mark, he's a law student. He's also 26.
02:05Finally, Michael, he works as a meat cutter, and he's 29.
02:09Okay. The audience vote was recorded yesterday, and we'll get to that later.
02:12But right now, I'm going to ask Jennifer, why don't you remind us who you chose?
02:16Mark George.
02:17Mark?
02:18Yeah.
02:18Good.
02:19There's Mark now.
02:21Now, what connection did we get to both sides of the story?
02:23And we asked our couples not to speak to each other after their date.
02:25Mark's backstage, so let's say hello to Mark George.
02:28Hi, Mark.
02:29Hello, Jack. How are you?
02:30Hi, Mark.
02:32Hi, Jennifer.
02:33How did you like your date with Jennifer, Mark?
02:35I liked it a lot. It was a lot of fun.
02:37Was it?
02:38Yeah. How did it start?
02:40Well, it was quite a surprise, because at first, we had some funny phone calls.
02:45I didn't say who I was when I first called her, and I was asking these really interesting
02:50questions, like I knew a lot about her, and she couldn't figure out who it was, and she
02:53was about to hang up on me before.
02:55I thought it was an obscene phone call.
02:57That's what happened on your date, Jennifer.
02:59Well, I thought I'd send them on a treasure hunt to find me, so I took this picture of me
03:05and cut it up.
03:06And so I, like, put this part of me on the first clue.
03:09Then I raced over to the library, and then this part of me was at the library with the
03:14next clue.
03:14And then the next clue was my nose, and that was at this bowling alley.
03:19And then, and he had to find it third ball from the right, and I think that he had a
03:23hard
03:24time finding it.
03:25Did you have any problem figuring out the clues?
03:27Well, the bowling alley was the only place.
03:29I loved the way she had it up, because everything rhymed.
03:31It was very poetic, but the bowling alley threw me, because I can't believe she's taking me
03:35to eat here.
03:36It was like a little coffee shop and bowling.
03:38I thought, what am I dressed to do?
03:39Finally found her, though.
03:40Finally found her.
03:41We, uh, the last clue was to meet her at the Santa Monica Pier.
03:44So I drove up to the pier, and there were three guys keeping her company who didn't look
03:47really too desirable, and I pulled up.
03:49I felt like it was a, a knight who was saving her or something.
03:53She, okay, Jennifer, tell us more.
03:56Well, I had champagne and two wine glasses in these three transients, and they wanted
04:00to drink this.
04:03And then, um, we called, we wanted to go to, um, what was the name of the place?
04:08Well, we wanted to make sure we could get, uh, seafood, and I told her, let's try and
04:12stay by the beach, so I called up the manager at Gladstone's and said, keep the place open.
04:16He goes, why?
04:17And the kitchen was going to close in two minutes, and I said, listen, we were on a, we're part
04:21of a TV program, try and keep the kitchen open.
04:23I made the order over the phone to just, uh, because I knew what I wanted.
04:26See, he's the son of a politician, and they're real good at that.
04:29Kind of getting in there and making it work, yeah.
04:31Right, right, yeah.
04:31So you went, uh, you went to this restaurant, you had some food?
04:34Yeah, yeah.
04:34Well, I didn't eat anything, because I'd been on a date earlier that evening.
04:37Do you believe that?
04:39Well, you are kind of hard to keep up with, aren't you?
04:41I couldn't believe it.
04:42I asked her, I said...
04:43But it was fun.
04:44No, it was a lot of fun, but she surprised me.
04:46I looked, I said, you're not hungry.
04:47You went on a date already?
04:48And I thought to myself, geez, I guess I didn't know if I was worth waiting for or something.
04:52Oh, yeah, yeah, but I didn't know that then.
04:55I didn't have a good date the first time, so I was uncertain, you know.
04:59So, yeah, what happened next?
05:01And then, um, we went to, um, a jacuzzi for...
05:05Oh, I wasn't supposed to say that.
05:09Oh, I'm sorry, Mark.
05:12That's a good one.
05:13You want to defer to Mark for this?
05:15Yeah, Mark, what did we do?
05:17Well, it was really getting kind of late, and, um, we were trying to decide what we were
05:21going to do afterwards, and I had to make sure I wasn't going to infringe, because I
05:23didn't know if she had another date after 2 o'clock or nothing.
05:25I did.
05:26She's kind of a busy lady, isn't she?
05:29No, but, um, I thought we had a great time.
05:31We did.
05:32I kind of had you see the audience pick for you, aren't you, this time?
05:35Yeah, let's take a look and see.
05:36Okay.
05:36Okay.
05:39Well, the audience picked Michael.
05:4153% they picked Michael.
05:42If you want to take their advice, we'll send you out on a date with Michael.
05:45Well, I'd like to go up in a hot air balloon next, so maybe I will.
05:49Is that okay?
05:51Sure.
05:51You can do anything you want to do.
05:53I told you, I see a lot of people.
05:55That's true.
05:57Thanks anyway, Mark.
05:58We'll see you later.
06:00Thank you very much.
06:01Bye-bye.
06:01Bye-bye.
06:05We have some nice gifts for you, and we're going to come right back with another couple
06:12in just a minute.
06:13Stay with us.
06:20Okay, we're going to meet another woman who chose a date from our video library.
06:23Now, she's from Toronto.
06:24She was married for 33 years, and she says she loves being single.
06:29Please welcome Trudy Puskin.
06:33Come on out there, Trudy Puskin.
06:37How are you?
06:39I'm fine.
06:40Very well.
06:41Come sit down.
06:43Well, now, you know, 33 years is an awful long time to be married and separate.
06:47Yes, it is.
06:48What made you decide to separate?
06:50I just decided that I was tired of being an appendage of my husband, so I decided to be
06:57everything I could be.
07:00Oh, here you are.
07:01I took flying lessons.
07:02I am taking flying lessons.
07:04I decided to work.
07:06I decided to learn how to walk into a bar, which I learned to do.
07:13That is a learned skill when you don't drink.
07:15I didn't know that.
07:16Oh, yeah.
07:17How do you do that?
07:18You walk in and slide up on a stool.
07:21Do you wait, or do you say, hey, big boy?
07:24Oh, no.
07:25No?
07:25You wait.
07:26You just wait.
07:27You don't have to see.
07:28Eventually, they come to you.
07:29Absolutely.
07:30No problem.
07:31I can see why.
07:31You're a very attractive woman.
07:33You are indeed.
07:33Yeah.
07:34Now that we know a little about you, let's find out about these guys you had to choose
07:36from, okay?
07:38Watch very closely because you're going to get to vote again.
07:40Now, first, there was Lonnie.
07:41He was raised in L.A.
07:42He says he's a free spirit, and he tells us about himself right now.
07:47I believe that most people are beautiful.
07:49I have a saying from a poem that says, I will give you my love.
07:54I will give you more if you will accept more.
07:56I'll give you all if you can accept it all.
07:59What you cannot accept, I will give to my friends.
08:03Okay.
08:03Next, there was Wayne.
08:04Now, Wayne's from Kentucky.
08:05He likes hunting and fishing, and he's been single for 10 years.
08:08Here's what he likes in women.
08:11I don't want him too big, and I don't want your love.
08:12If they're bones rattly, they publish this thing.
08:17But, uh, their general appearance and actions, you've had, I've had some, you know, where
08:22you go out, and if you touch them, well, you think they'd die or something.
08:26So that's, that's a bad thing.
08:29It's like that.
08:31Don't touch me, don't touch me, don't touch me.
08:32Finally, finally, you watch Jerry.
08:34Now, Jerry's from Minnesota.
08:35He likes jogging and dancing, and here's what he'd like a woman to share with him.
08:41Probably two in the morning, decide to go out for a half-hour jog somewhere throughout
08:45the neighborhood.
08:48Probably catch a movie at 10.30 or 12 at night.
08:53Maybe take off from Malibu and have breakfast at six in the morning.
08:57Um, I'm interested in hang gliding, which I haven't pursued, and I'd like to get into
09:01that next.
09:02He obviously doesn't sleep much.
09:04I have a feeling.
09:05Trudy selected one of these men as her date, and we're going to show you all three men again
09:09before you vote.
09:10Now, first there was Lonnie.
09:11He's a 50-year-old, uh, caterer.
09:13Then Wayne, he's an insurance agent, and he's 57.
09:15And finally, Jerry, he's also 57, and he's an aerospace engineer.
09:20Okay, audience, it's time for your voting machines.
09:22Now, you meant Trudy.
09:22You've seen all of her choices.
09:24Let's make your choice now, okay?
09:26Please make it right now.
09:29Now, we're going to take a break.
09:30When we come back, we'll meet the man that Trudy selected, and we're going to hear everything
09:34that happened on the date.
09:35We'll do that in just a minute.
09:36Stay with us.
10:05We'll do that in just a minute.

11:40In a little while we'll find out who the audience picked, but right now let's find out who Trudy selected.
11:44Okay, Trudy?
11:45Who did you select?
11:46I selected Lionel.
11:48Lonnie?
11:48Lonnie.
11:49Oh yeah, sure.
11:50There he is right now.
11:52A lot of people clapping.
11:54They obviously agree with you.
11:55Now in Love Connection, we get both sides of the story.
11:57We ask our couples not to speak to each other after their date.
11:59Lonnie's backstage.
12:01Say hello to Lonnie Slutsky.
12:04Hi, Lonnie.
12:05Hi, Chuck.
12:05How are you?
12:06Okay, thank you.
12:08What did you think of Trudy, Lonnie?
12:10I thought she was fantastic.
12:11She's a wonderful lady.
12:13Yeah, she seems like a wonderful lady.
12:14Yes, we had a beautiful time.
12:15Good.
12:16What did you do on your date?
12:18What made it so wonderful?
12:20I did not expect him to look as good as he looked.
12:23And he looked terrific, and I told him that, and that broke the ice.
12:27Yes, she...
12:28Oh, nice.
12:28Yes.
12:28Chuck?
12:29What?
12:30One thing she said to me was, out of the three men that she picked,
12:35that the other two were handsomer, but she liked what I said.
12:40Oh, good.
12:41Well, a lot of times, that's what's most important.
12:43Yeah.
12:44He's feeling, and I am into feelings.
12:48Feelings.
12:48Yeah.
12:49That's nice.
12:49Sensitivity.
12:50Where did you go on your date?
12:51We went dinner dancing, and we had dinner.
12:56Mm-hmm.
12:56And as we were having dinner, some very lovely lady in a red dress hit on Lonnie.
13:02Oh, really?
13:03She seemed to know me because I'm associated with a lot of single organizations I used to
13:08do catering for, and also I was on the board of one of the largest single organizations in
13:12the city.
13:12So I think she knew me from that time.
13:14I probably danced with her.
13:15I didn't remember her, though.
13:16Oh, I see.
13:17Okay.
13:18He said he didn't treat her.
13:19You think he was being an absolute gentleman?
13:21I think he was being gracious, and I really appreciated that.
13:24How nice.
13:25It was very nice.
13:26So?
13:26He was a perfect gentleman.
13:28We, I must say, though, that while we were at my house, I did set ground rules.
13:33Yes.
13:34I still don't believe in kissing on the first date.
13:38I guess I'm just from that school, you know.
13:41Maybe now.
13:42I'm getting a little bit better, but.
13:43So you didn't kiss, when you came to the end of the date, you didn't kiss or anything,
13:46huh?
13:47I think we hugged.
13:48I think we hugged.
13:49If she feels that way by now, I don't want to go out with her again, then.
13:52She would always change her mind for the second day.
13:53I could try.
13:58Well.
13:58He's very sweet.
13:59He really is.
13:59Let's take a look and see who the audience picked for you, okay?
14:02Okay.
14:02See who they selected.
14:03Okay.
14:03Take a look over here.
14:07Well, the audience picked Jerry at 53%.
14:10Yeah.
14:10Really?
14:11Yeah.
14:11I wonder why.
14:13Well, you know, I just couldn't tell you.
14:15I couldn't tell you.
14:16Now, you can take the audience's advice and go out with Jerry if you'd like to, and we'll
14:19pick up the tab for that.
14:20Or what would you like to do?
14:23I'd rather go out with Lonnie again.
14:25You want to go out with Lonnie again?
14:26That sounds like you are.
14:27One of your time.
14:28Lonnie?
14:28Is that all right with you?
14:29That's kind of me.
14:30I'd love to.
14:30Well, come out and join us on stage, Lonnie.
14:37How are you?
14:37Nice to meet you.
14:38Where's your lady?
14:39Where are you?
14:40How are you?
14:41Is that good?
14:50Well, as a first kiss.
14:52Yes.
14:52First kiss.
14:53Right here on the stage.
14:54Very sedate.
14:54Yes.
14:54Very sedate.
14:55What do you think the most attractive thing is about Lonnie?
14:58His personality.
14:59Warm, nice, gentle.
15:02That's nice.
15:03Yeah.
15:03And I think those are things you can't say about a lot of people.
15:06Yeah.
15:08Lonnie's, you've been on the single scene for a while and Trudy's kind of newly single.
15:12Is there any advice that you would give to her?
15:14I don't know about it.
15:15I know.
15:15I learned a long time ago to stop giving advice.
15:18I give advice, they do the opposite anyway.
15:20I learned that a long time ago.
15:22They want to know advice, but then they do the opposite.
15:24They want to do the opposite of what you tell them.
15:26But I think the only thing I can say about Trudy going out with her, I think when her husband
15:34left her, he left a beautiful thing because I think she's a beautiful lady.
15:37Wow, sweet.
15:38That's a very nice thing to say.
15:39It is very sweet.
15:39We have a nice gift for you.
15:41And I hope your second date is as pleasant or even more pleasant than your first date.
15:45Let us know what happens.
15:46Okay?
15:46We're going to come right back with another couple in just a minute.
15:49Hang in there, folks.
15:56We want to meet another woman who chose a date from our video library.
15:59She says she's an outgoing person, anxious to go out.
16:02She thinks that most men are selfish and loud, but she hopes there's a good one out there
16:06for her someplace.
16:07Please welcome Police Kaplan.
16:16Come sit down.
16:17You look much better in person.
16:19Oh, really?
16:19Yeah.
16:21I guess that's a nice compliment.
16:22Thank you very much.
16:23Aside from loud and selfish, is there anything else that turns you off?
16:29Well, if he brags a lot and if he's dull and unemployed, really doesn't help much.
16:34Brags dull and unemployed.
16:36On your forum, you said that you liked muscles.
16:38That mean you go in for kind of the bodybuilding type?
16:41Well, not like the big macho guys, but like nice muscles.
16:45Not flabby arms that like hang.
16:47You know, a man who can do one or two pull-ups at least.
16:50But that's not really important, as long as he has a good personality and spends a lot
16:53of money on me.
16:54No, no, I'm only kidding.
16:55Now, you're a bus driver.
16:56Have you ever...
16:57Well, it's not really a bus.
16:58Oh, it's not a bus.
16:58It's actually not even a car.
16:59It's a bicycle, a three-wheel bicycle.
17:01Oh, I've seen those.
17:02Sure.
17:02You pedal people a...
17:03Right, I pedal people around.
17:04Pedicab, I think they're called.
17:05Pedicab, exactly.
17:06Yes.
17:07So, you drive one of those.
17:08Have you ever had a passenger that you would like to date?
17:10No, they usually come on with their girlfriend.
17:12And usually when they come alone, I can see why.
17:17Well, let's see if we can find some for you.
17:18Oh, good.
17:19Find someone for you, not some, but someone.
17:20Whatever, find anything for me.
17:22Let's take a look at the portion of the tapes that Felice saw.
17:24Now, don't forget you're going to vote again, so get ready.
17:27First, there was Shane.
17:28Shane's from Buffalo.
17:29He enjoys plays and movies, and he likes to meet women in bars.
17:32But sometimes he says he gets tongue-tied.
17:35But when I get out, you know, in bars and those kind of things, I forget.
17:39I just, like a little boy, I don't know what to say.
17:41I mean, I see these guys with the big disco Danny Raff, and I go,
17:44Wow, you know, I wish I could be that way in some respects, but I can't.
17:48I try, and I make a fool of myself, and what can I say, you know?
17:53Okay, next there was Reed.
17:54Reed says he's an optimist who likes to swim, ski, and party.
17:57And here's what else he likes.
18:00I like to dance.
18:01I like to sing.
18:05Or maybe having a few beers with some friends and a party.
18:09I like jogging, and I like to lift weights.
18:12I try to lift weights every night.
18:14Just to, just to get some energy out.
18:17Finally, there was Steven.
18:18He likes long walks, junk food, and romantic evenings.
18:21But here's one evening that got a little out of control, he says.
18:26And we went out to dinner, and then some dancing,
18:29and came back to my apartment for a little wine and a little romance.
18:32And in the process of the wine and the romance, got a bloody nose that wouldn't stop.
18:39Probably just too much passion.
18:42Bloody enough.
18:44Well, before we find out who Felice chose as her date, let's see all three of these men once again.
18:48First, there was Shane.
18:49He's 25.
18:50He's a karate instructor.
18:51Then Reed, a 24-year-old medical student.
18:53Finally, Steven.
18:54He's a computer analyst, and he's 26.
18:56Okay, audience, it's time to vote again.
18:58Who do you think's the best man for Felice?
18:59Please make your choice right now.
19:01We're going to get the results of the audience vote a little bit later.
19:04Right now, let's find out who Felice selected, okay?
19:06Felice, who did you select?
19:08I selected Steven, number three.
19:10The computer.
19:14We're always here from both sides.
19:15Steven's backstage.
19:16Let's say hello to Steven Tesler.
19:18Hi, Steven.
19:19Hi, Chuck.
19:19How are you?
19:20I'm fine.
19:20How are you?
19:21Good, thanks.
19:22Hi, Felice.
19:23I kind of assumed that Felice phoned you.
19:26How'd she sound?
19:27Interesting.
19:28I got her message on my answering machine,
19:30and she sounded like a real tiny little girl,
19:33kind of zany, Barbra Streisand personality, but good.
19:37All right.
19:37What happened on your date, Felice?
19:39I came and picked him up, and we went on a flying lesson.
19:42We went in an airplane, and we went flying.
19:44Oh.
19:45For an hour, yeah.
19:46That's kind of fun.
19:47Yeah, so he rode the plane for half an hour,
19:50and then we switched.
19:51Not in the middle of the air.
19:52We landed, and then we switched,
19:53and then I rode the plane for about half an hour.
19:55What happened next after you got out of the plane?
19:57No, then after that, we drove to a little restaurant,
20:01but we didn't eat anything.
20:02We just drank margaritas.
20:04So he had, like, a plain margarita,
20:06and I had a strawberry margarita.
20:08So he wanted some, but he wouldn't drink from my straw.
20:10Why not?
20:10He drank from the glass.
20:11I don't know.
20:12Why wouldn't you drink from her straw, Steven?
20:14It didn't even have lipstick on it.
20:15Tell the truth.
20:16And what?
20:17No, I didn't want to try the strawberry.
20:19I was fine with my own.
20:20But he did try it.
20:21He tried it from the glass, not from the straw.
20:23Don't you remember?
20:24I guess not.
20:25Okay.
20:27And then what happened?
20:28Oh, then we went from there to another bar.
20:30Well, before we went to the bar,
20:31we stopped to visit her nymphomaniac belly dance friend.
20:35I think it was in home.
20:36That was your description.
20:37She's just a belly dancer.
20:38During our driving across town,
20:40she let me know about the 17 moving violations she's had.
20:43Not 17, only 14.
20:44Oh, excuse me.
20:44I'm sorry.
20:45Only 14 moving violations.
20:47I took him home into the driveway.
20:50And then he said,
20:50Felice, you want to come up for some coffee?
20:52I said, no, thank you.
20:53I don't drink coffee.
20:54And I said, oh, you look like you have a headache.
20:56I said, I do.
20:57But I only had it after, you know,
20:59we started this date.
21:00No, no, I just threw that line.
21:01And I didn't say that.
21:02But I said, I don't want any of your aspirin either.
21:04And then he says,
21:05oh, Felice, can I kiss you goodnight?
21:06And I said, no, I don't kiss on the first date.
21:09So he takes his hand forcefully toward his mouth.
21:14And he takes his hand.
21:15And you know what I did?
21:15Can I just show you?
21:16I won't do it.
21:17I'm not sure.
21:17But he gave me,
21:18and I bit his two fingers real hard.
21:20You bit him?
21:22It was wonderful.
21:23And you know what?
21:24I think he enjoyed it.
21:26Oh, I did.
21:26It was delicious.
21:27I was hoping she'd do it again.
21:28And then.
21:29Stephen, what did you think when she bit your fingers?
21:31Well, it was really undescribable.
21:34I guess she wanted to make a lasting impression on me.
21:35I just wanted to make sure that the rain shot
21:38is taking the corner.
21:38Is the mark still on your finger?
21:39Will it scar you for life,
21:40and you'll always remember me?
21:41Yes, I think so.
21:42I don't think I could ever forget.
21:43I don't know whether this is good or bad.
21:45It's interesting.
21:47Let's take a look and see who the audience
21:48picked for you, Felice.
21:50Close.
21:52Ah, 41%.
21:53They picked Reed.
21:54We'll pay for that date if you'd like
21:55to go out with the doctor.
21:57You will pay for it?
21:59Yes, just like we did the first one.
22:01Well, how could I refuse if you're going to pay for it?
22:03Gee, I don't know.
22:04What the heck?
22:04I'll go out with him.
22:05Okay.
22:06All right.
22:09Stephen, sorry things didn't work out for you.
22:11Thanks for being loose.
22:12We have a nice gift for you.
22:13And we have a nice gift for you as well, Felice,
22:15and good luck with the doctor.
22:16It was very nice meeting you.
22:17Yeah, nice meeting you.
