00:00Beat the Clock is brought to you by Sylvania, a quality name in lighting, photo lamps, radio tubes, television, electronics.
00:14Let's all play Beat the Clock!
00:18Now here is America's number one clock watcher, Bud Geyer!
00:51And there you have it!
00:55Hi, boys!
00:57How are you? Hello, nice to have you back together.
00:59How are you? A warm welcome back to you all.
01:02And these are Mr. and Mrs. John Christie and their two fine boys back again this week from last week.
01:07Let's have a welcome for them.
01:13Well, that little bit of fun we had at the opening of the show is to establish the fact that
01:16as we announced to you last week, tonight, all magic show.
01:19And you were very kind. We communicated with you.
01:21You were very willing to give up the stunt that you hadn't even started yet.
01:24We barely had a chance to start to explain it to you and take one of our magic stunts instead.
01:27It's all right with you, I understand. Well, that's just fine.
01:30You were at the $100 clock when time ran out.
01:31Bonus is worth $600 tonight.
01:33And every one of our stunts is based upon some classic stunt that you have seen done by magicians all
01:38over the world.
01:39So we're going to have some fun, we think.
01:40And magic stunt number one, of course, starts with the two of you.
01:43You know there's a traditional stunt among magicians where somebody gets inside a box, the box is closed, and the
01:49swords go through the box.
01:50You know? Every which way.
01:52Have you ever thought this might be kind of fun to do to your husband?
01:54Oh, yes.
01:55Well, come on. Let's do it. You two come over here right now, if you will.
01:58Okay.
02:00Now, sir, if you don't mind having a seat in this box, sit cross-legged with your feet inside the
02:04box, too, and all parts of you must remain inside the box at all times.
02:08You can take a look at your husband if you want to before you get started there.
02:10There's the way he's going to be sitting, see?
02:12Okay.
02:12Now, you'll notice that there are a whole series of holes, and instead of swords, we've given you long poles.
02:17Now, I'm going to place a few of these through so your husband gets the idea.
02:19As these come through these holes, can you see right there?
02:21You reach up and help it find the hole on the other side, you see?
02:25And you'll continue to hold onto this until you're sure it's all the way through.
02:28You may not let go one and go onto the other until you've got one through all the way.
02:31Now, there'll be another one that'll go through here.
02:32See if you can find this one, sir.
02:34Pass it right along there.
02:36That's the idea. Get it through the hole.
02:37That's it.
02:38I'll give you another one down here.
02:40Right down at the bottom.
02:41See if you can find that one.
02:43You got it?
02:46All the way through?
02:47Okay.
02:48Now, I'm going to give one more in there just to make sure it's started so you see where it
02:51goes.
02:51I'm going to put that one right here.
02:52Now, where's this coming across in front of you?
02:54That's fine.
02:55All right.
02:56You're all set.
02:56Now, all you've got to do is put the rest of them through there just the way I did, and
02:59we'd stop the clock.
03:00And you'll beat the clock.
03:01And speaking of the clock, how many seconds do we have?
03:03We have 50 seconds.
03:05Every one of them.
03:05One at a time.
03:06You may not go to the next one until one is all the way through.
03:08Got it?
03:08Yeah.
03:09And your husband will help inside there.
03:10Are you ready?
03:10You must keep your feet inside at all times.
03:12Go!
03:14Hurry up.
03:16Got it through.
03:16He'll find the hole on the other side.
03:18That's the idea.
03:28Keep it coming there.
03:29Still have 35 seconds.
03:31Only four more to go.
03:33That's the idea.
03:40Okay.
03:41Come on.
03:42You're doing fine.
03:50Can you find it over there?
03:51Don't let go.
03:51It's all the way through.
03:53Hurry up.
03:53Get it through.
03:54They only got 10 seconds.
03:54Come on.
03:55Two more poles.
03:55Get the next two.
03:56Hurry up.
03:57Here comes the next one.
03:57Watch it.
03:58Here it comes.
03:59Quick.
04:00One more to go after that one.
04:01Here it goes.
04:03Get it through there if you can.
04:05Hurry up.
04:06Stop it.
04:13All right.
04:14Come on back over here.
04:16Well, there you are.
04:17Now you know how it's done.
04:18You see, we didn't stab him even once, did we?
04:22We'll get him back safe and sound without a single hole in his head.
04:25I guarantee you.
04:26Are you worried about that a little bit there?
04:27Yeah.
04:28He's all right though, isn't he?
04:29No, I wasn't worried.
04:31You were worried?
04:32I wasn't.
04:33You weren't worried.
04:33Okay.
04:34I'm glad you trusted us.
04:35All right.
04:35Good enough.
04:36All right.
04:36Get him back in there.
04:37Good enough.
04:37Feel all right, sir?
04:39Everything's under control.
04:40You ever think you might have...
04:41All right.
04:42This is Christie.
04:42We're waiting for your husband now.
04:44We have a very...
04:46He is all set.
04:48We have a stunt now called a magic pie plate.
04:51Since all our stunts tonight are based on magic stunts, suppose you two come over here
04:55with me.
04:55And kids, you can come along if you want to.
04:57Maybe you can watch better over here.
04:58All right.
04:59Bring out our magic pie plate, if you will, please.
05:02Stay right here, if you will, Miss Christie.
05:03The list comes up.
05:05Oh, my.
05:06There we are.
05:07I want you to look at Madeline and Betty tonight, all dressed for our magic show.
05:10How about that, huh?
05:11It looks pretty.
05:11It looks mighty pretty, don't they?
05:12All right.
05:13Now, suppose you step right up between Madeline and Betty, will you, Miss Christie?
05:15Yes.
05:16And put that shower cap on that she has for you there.
05:20And Betty, if you'll put that in place for me.
05:23Things a little hard to move around in them black skirts, aren't they, huh?
05:27Kind of hobbled a bit, my girls are.
05:29But now, I want to place you in one spot.
05:30Put your right foot right about on that line, sir.
05:32You'll be about right.
05:33Yeah.
05:34Just about there.
05:35I think that's fine.
05:35The back of your head is now right there.
05:37Okay?
05:38Now, the reason I see this is just cloth behind your husband here.
05:41But this is the magic pie plate.
05:42It's an amazing little pie plate.
05:44If I just toss it up in the air like that, it stays there.
05:46That's amazing business.
05:48It's a fantastic thing.
05:49And I'll show you what else it does.
05:50We have some whipped cream down here in the form of Ready Whip.
05:53And I want you to stand down here, right in the back of this table.
05:56And I want you to cover the pie plate because if you get it plenty full of whipped cream,
06:00you will break the magnetism and it will fall to the floor.
06:02And that's all you have to do is make it fall to the floor.
06:04But it's a coy little pie plate.
06:06I want to show you what it does when I just point the Ready Whip at it.
06:08Go.
06:09Look at this thing.
06:11Isn't that amazing?
06:13Yeah, but you've got to stay right behind this table at all times.
06:16You see, it's a cagey little thing.
06:18See?
06:18So, let's take a look at the clock now.
06:20See how many seconds you have.
06:22Kids stand over here with me.
06:2335 seconds.
06:25Push that down.
06:26I'll show you how right here.
06:27See?
06:27Yeah, just press around it.
06:28Go ahead.
06:28You'll see what happens.
06:29That's the idea.
06:30Okay.
06:30You ready?
06:31Go.
06:32Aim it right...
06:36Come on.
06:37Get another one.
06:37Get a fresh one there.
06:39Get a fresh one.
06:40It's on his left shoulder.
06:41It's on his left shoulder still.
06:43Move it around on you.
06:44Watch it.
06:45Get another one there.
06:46Get another one.
06:46Come on.
06:47It's right over.
06:48It's right behind his head now.
06:49There it comes.
06:50Whoa.
06:51Oh, my goodness.
06:52Where is it now?
06:53Let me see.
06:54All right.
06:55Whoop, whoop, whoop.
06:55It's Dallaire.
06:56There it is.
06:57Come on.
06:57Keep going at it there.
06:58Hurry up.
06:59Only got five seconds.
07:01All right.
07:01You did it.
07:02It dropped down.
07:03Step out, sir.
07:03You'll see it fall into the floor.
07:05There it is behind you.
07:06Stay right here.
07:06You're coming.
07:11Come on.
07:12Come on here, if you will.
07:14Get some over here, please, Miss Christie.
07:16Roxanne's going to take a picture of your husband.
07:19There we are.
07:20And now we have an extra camera for you.
07:22Thank you, Roxanne.
07:22The girls will get you cleaned up.
07:23You stay right there, sir, if you will.
07:25I'll get you all back as good as ever again.
07:27Thank you, Miss Christie.
07:27You can't eat all that off her fingers.
07:30Okay.
07:30Good enough.
07:31Fine.
07:31And you all come back over here with me now.
07:33And I'm going to make you an extra gift of an extra camera, Miss Christie.
07:36And when you get the film that is in this camera developed, the first picture will be
07:40that of your husband, just the way you saw him now.
07:42It should be kind of fun to have and keep.
07:43All right.
07:44That means, of course, this is one of our imperial reflex cameras, as you know.
07:47And we use one of our, very proudly, one of our blue dot for sure shot Sylvania
07:50flash phones.
07:51Now comes your turn to carry on for the family.
07:53So, boys, if you don't mind standing right down over there where you won't be in Mom's way.
07:57That's the idea.
07:57And, my, you stand right up here on this platform.
07:59Turn around and face the audience at the far end of the platform, if you don't mind.
08:02Don't look back again now till I tell you to.
08:04Behind you is our jackpot board, our magic board.
08:07And on it, a magic saying.
08:08We've got the words of this magic saying all mixed up.
08:10You've got to get the words all back in order again in 20 seconds.
08:13Okay?
08:13Now, don't look till I say, please.
08:14Open the curtain.
08:17Turn around and take a look.
08:22Go!
08:29Stop the clock.
08:30Now you see it.
08:31Now you don't.
08:31There you are.
08:32Congratulations, Dave.
08:33Come on down here again.
08:35Well, boys, you did it.
08:36How about that?
08:39All right.
08:40Now you just stand by right here with me because Mom has carried on as too bad Dad hasn't cleaned
08:43up yet to come out and see what's going to happen.
08:45Because having beaten our jackpot clock, I'm sure you want to look with me and see what you've won.
08:49So you just look right over there and you'll see right now.
08:55Here is the Sylvania Maynard console.
08:58An elegant piece of furniture in its own right with all Sylvania's great electronic advances
09:03and exclusive Sylvania halo light to give you greater eye comfort for far more enjoyable viewing.
09:09Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Christie.
09:11You have just won Sylvania's jackpot prize.
09:13All right.
09:14Congratulations to you, too.
09:15It was a pleasure having you back again, boys.
09:17I hope you enjoyed your amazing class.
09:18Good luck to you and God bless you.
09:20Bye.
09:22All right, Roxanne, whom do we have now?
09:25Bud, I'd like you to meet Mr. and Mrs. Fields Young from Shelby, North Carolina.
09:29Thank you very much, Roxanne.
09:30Hello, Mr. Young.
09:31How are you?
09:32Mr. Young, how are you?
09:33Mr. Young, how are you, too?
09:34All right, goodness.
09:36We seem like we have a magic show of redheads tonight.
09:39Our First Lady was a redhead, and so are you, and very lovely red hair, too.
09:43Do you have any children, Ms. Young?
09:44I have three.
09:45Three children?
09:46How many boys?
09:46How many girls?
09:47One girl and two boys.
09:48Hey, I got just the reverse.
09:49Two girls and one boy.
09:51How old are your children?
09:53Our children are 14, seven, and we have a baby six months old.
09:57Fourteen, seven, and a baby six months old.
09:59Boy, that's keeping a little one in the house all the time.
10:02I think that's wonderful.
10:03You do what, Mr. Young?
10:04I'm in the finance business and raise Hereford cattle.
10:06To raise Hereford cattle?
10:08Sure.
10:08How many do you have?
10:09Well, we have 125.
10:11That's beef cattle, isn't it?
10:13Beef cattle.
10:13Oh, boy, do I love steak and beef.
10:15I'll tell you.
10:16Well, do that, but not on the hook.
10:18Wouldn't know where to put it.
10:19We have one of our beat the clock games here for you.
10:22Beat the clock games, as you know, are set up with a clock and all the fixings in here,
10:26too.
10:26Just about everything you could possibly want.
10:28And I know you're going to have a real good time with that beat the clock game.
10:31Adults like it almost more than kids do.
10:33They have a lot of fun with it.
10:34The boy told me not to come home without one.
10:35Your little boy told you not to come home without one?
10:36Well, Roxanne will have that backstage for you before you leave the theater.
10:40Incidentally, I don't suppose there's any point that I have to really tell you this, but
10:43there's been a week that's just gone by.
10:44It's almost over now, called Brotherhood Week.
10:46It's been kind of a sad thing to me that we have to establish a thing like Brotherhood Week.
10:51It's too bad it isn't something we just kind of naturally live instinctively all the time
10:54with everybody else in the world.
10:55I think the world would be a lot better place to live in, don't you?
10:57Sure.
10:57But to carry on the organization of Brotherhood and to try to establish the thought of Brotherhood
11:02all over the world requires money just like all these other campaigns.
11:05So I hope that before Brotherhood Week is out, all of you haven't already done it,
11:08send your contribution.
11:09If you want to do that, send it just simply to Brotherhood, Box 1120.
11:13That's 1120, New York 1, New York.
11:15Get to it, will you?
11:16Okay, now, Mr. and Mrs. Young, problem for you again is a magic stunt,
11:20so suppose you come over here with me and I'll show you what it is, Miss Young.
11:24Now, stand right back here with me.
11:26Here we have a regular silk hat like any magician has.
11:29You can see there's nothing in it.
11:30Absolutely nothing in it.
11:31It's completely empty.
11:32However, when I place this magic top silk hat right down here,
11:35I can make the traditional bunny appear through the hat.
11:39It's an amazing thing about this hat, but it just seems to happen that way.
11:41By reaching down in the hat and pulling, up comes bunny number one.
11:45There he is, you see?
11:46Now, there are many, many more bunnies in there.
11:48As a matter of fact, there are eight more.
11:49Now, what I want you to do is to stand right here and take my place
11:51and keep reaching down and pulling out the bunnies
11:53and putting them up on top of this little table.
11:55I don't care if you put them on their sides or straight up any way you want to
11:58until you get all nine of them up there and none of them falling off.
12:01If they fall off, just keep pulling them out.
12:03We'll keep getting more for you until you've got nine up there, okay?
12:05Take a look at the clock.
12:06See how many seconds you have.
12:08Fifty-five seconds for the magic rabbits out of the hat.
12:10Are you ready?
12:11Go!
12:14Leave yourself room.
12:15Move up that front space first.
12:16I would.
12:17That's it.
12:17Just keep going.
12:18Keep going.
12:22That's the girl.
12:23That's four you've got up there now.
12:25Five.
12:25You've got four more to go.
12:28Six.
12:32Seven.
12:33Two more is all you need.
12:36Eight.
12:37One more is all you need.
12:38Don't let it fall now.
12:40Better move around the front there, I think, and try and get it up there if you can.
12:43Be careful.
12:45Careful.
12:46Hey!
12:47Okay.
12:52Now, wait a minute.
12:56I think that you will agree with me that the hat cooperated with you beautifully, don't you?
13:01So I think you should shake hands with the hat and say thank you.
13:04Will you shake hands with the hat?
13:05There you are.
13:06Shake hands with the hat.
13:08Okay.
13:09All right.
13:10Good enough.
13:10Come on back over here now if you will.
13:13Because we're doing fine with our magic show tonight and having a lot of fun, too.
13:16Well, that's the whole point of the show tonight, as you know.
13:19We try to give that kind of a character to the show and kind of make stunts that are based
13:23on the traditional stunts of magic.
13:25You know, when you go and watch a magician, sometimes you wonder how all these things work out.
13:29Well, now you'll see how a lot of these things work out.
13:31You can tell him that they were made into stunts as well and have a real ball with it.
13:34So basically, we've got our work cut out for us. Sales are down.
13:37What's it like to have adult attention deficit disorder?
13:40Do you understand that you're celebrating an anniversary?
13:43Yes.
13:43How many years married?
13:45Fifteen.
13:45Bless your heart. Many, many happy returns to you.
13:47And all of Shelby, North Carolina, your hometown.
13:50Oh, look what we did to your husband here.
13:51Let's get him out here before he gets uncomfortable.
13:53Show you what your next stunt is.
13:54Again, we have a magic stunt for you.
13:56Now, if you will stand right on that little line there.
13:58See that line?
13:59And you, sir, if you come out and just stand on this line, that'll put you in the right places.
14:02Now, the reason he's standing like this is that we have rigged up a pump here, you see?
14:07And the pump goes through this tube over here up to this balloon.
14:10Now, if I put this down on the floor here and start to pump, what happens?
14:14Well, the balloon starts to blow up, doesn't it?
14:16So I'm going to give it a little start for you so you won't have so far to go.
14:18I'll just get that balloon, you know, sort of partly blown up.
14:21Then I'll show you how this turns into a magic trick.
14:23Okay.
14:23Now, you hold that there in front of you, if you will, please.
14:26Now, since this is magic, stand facing the audience, if you will.
14:28I'm going to take a pair of scissors and I'm going to cut the hose right there.
14:34Okay.
14:35Now, I'm going to come over here and I'm going to cut the hose right there.
14:39There.
14:40Thank you very much, Madeline.
14:41Now, let me look through your husband's head a minute here.
14:44Oh, sure.
14:45That should be all right.
14:46Hold that end of the hose up to this ear, if you will.
14:48Hold this end up to this ear, if you will.
14:50All right.
14:51Now, pump, will you please?
14:52Step on that and pump.
14:53I just want to see.
14:56Why, fine.
14:57Sure.
14:57That's blowing up great.
14:58Okay.
14:59Now, take a look at the clock and see how many seconds you have.
15:0250 seconds to blow that balloon up until it breaks.
15:04Okay.
15:05You ready?
15:06Go.
15:09Keep her going fast.
15:11That's it.
15:12That's it.
15:14Hey, that's quite a head he's got there, isn't it?
15:17Hey, hold it.
15:17Stop a minute.
15:18Stop the clock a minute.
15:19I think maybe there may be a little obstruction there.
15:20Would you mind holding this in your mouth and put this on the top of your head and try
15:24that?
15:25Try that.
15:26All right.
15:26Go.
15:27Yeah, that's better.
15:28I think.
15:29Yes, sir.
15:29That's blowing up fine.
15:31There she goes.
15:33All magic tonight.
15:34Keep going.
15:34You got 30 seconds to break that balloon.
15:36Keep her going.
15:37Keep her going.
15:3925 seconds.
15:41Keep her going.
15:42Don't wear out on us.
15:43Come on.
15:45There we are.
15:46Stop it.
15:46Stop it.
15:47Stop it.
15:48Stop it.
15:49Stop it.
15:50Stop it.
15:51Stop it.
15:53Don't work out for you.
15:54Come on back over here.
15:57Oh.
15:58Oh, I tell you.
15:59Well, now there you are.
16:00You see, it can be done purely by magic.
16:02Right through the head.
16:03All right.
16:04Try it when you get home.
16:05It's a cinch.
16:05Okay.
16:06Now a little more magic for you to step up here on the platform.
16:09Turn around and face the audience.
16:10You're standing in front of our magic jackpot board.
16:12And again, we've taken a saying it has to do with magic and prestidigitation.
16:16I wouldn't say that again on a bet.
16:18All you've got to do is correct the words.
16:20Move them around in the proper order until they spell out the saying of quotation marks
16:23after in 20 seconds.
16:24Now, please don't look until I tell you to open the curtain.
16:29Turn around and take a look.
16:32Go.
16:41Okay.
16:42Stop the clock.
16:43The hand is cooking in and out.
16:44You did it.
16:46Hey, she did it.
16:47What did she have to do there?
16:51Oh, my.
16:53Now, when she gets you home, you can tell her about those holes in your head that we blew the
16:58balloon up through.
16:59And in the meantime, you stand there with her because she carried on nobly for the families you can see.
17:03And the hand is quicker than the eye.
17:04So take a look over here.
17:10Here is the Sylvania Lombard 21-inch console with all Sylvania's newest engineering features,
17:16plus exclusive Sylvania halo light.
17:18It gives you greater eye comfort for far more enjoyable viewing.
17:22Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Young.
17:23You, too, have just won Sylvania's jackpot prize.
17:26Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Young.
17:27I've got the children out there.
17:29I know you fit those kids for me, will you?
17:30Goodbye and God bless you.
17:33Okay.
17:34Whom do we have now?
17:37Hi.
17:37Bud, I'd like you to meet Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds Berger from Wapping, Connecticut.
17:41Thank you very much, Dr. Dan.
17:43Hi, Mr. Berger.
17:43Is it Berger or Berger?
17:45Berger.
17:46Very nice to have you here.
17:47And they call you Reynolds, and they've got a nickname.
17:50They call you Bud?
17:51That's right.
17:51This is going to get more confusing every minute, Bud, I can tell you that.
17:54Well, as you see now, we're doing an all-magic show tonight.
17:57I see you're a farmer.
17:58Is that right, sir?
17:58That's right.
17:59How large a farm do you have?
18:00Oh, about 40 acres.
18:0140 acres.
18:01What do you raise?
18:02Tobacco.
18:03Oh, up there in Wapping, Connecticut.
18:04Of course, that's a big tobacco area, isn't it?
18:06That's right.
18:06Well, here is a beat-the-clock game for you to take along home with you.
18:09Do you have children?
18:10Yes, too.
18:10Even if you don't, you're going to find you'll be fighting them for it when you have company over,
18:13because grown-ups love it just as much.
18:14You can get them in toy stores all over the country.
18:16And they're based, of course, the stunts in here on stunts written by the boys that create stunts on our
18:20show,
18:21Frank Wayne and Bob Howard.
18:22Incidentally, Roxanne will have that backstage for you right after the show.
18:25In the March issue, I have one right here now, of American Magazine,
18:29you'll see a little article about Frank and Bob, Frank Wayne and Bob Howard, and there they are, right there.
18:34There's Bob right there, and there's Frank right there, and now I'm leering over Frank's shoulder.
18:38You have a very interesting article about the two boys who do the stunt creation on our show.
18:41Get American Magazine for March, and you read it.
18:43Well, now, on your $100 clock, folks, we've got some fun for you, I think.
18:47I think you're going to enjoy it.
18:48As a matter of fact, you know the old stunt of sawing the lady in half?
18:52That's right.
18:53Well, we thought it might be kind of fun for you to, you know...
18:55Would you like to try it?
18:57Sure.
18:57All right, come on over here with me.
18:59You can leave your first right there.
19:02The bonus!
19:03You just have a bonus for $20 tonight.
19:06Come on over here with me, if you will, bud.
19:08You can wait here, if you will, Ms. Burke.
19:10Only you come over, too.
19:10You have to be part of it.
19:12My goodness gracious sakes alive.
19:14All right, bud, you come in and stand right alongside of me here.
19:16Now, let me show you what you do.
19:17You stand on this line here, just generally, you see?
19:19But what you must do is to keep your left foot on the floor and keep the pole there in
19:23that hand.
19:24Now, if you prefer to work it the other way, I don't care.
19:26Are you right-handed?
19:27Right.
19:27Well, then I think you'd better hold it in your left hand.
19:29The end of this pole must remain on the floor, and it must remain next to your foot.
19:32Not, you know, right smack against it, but in general, next to it.
19:35The other foot, I don't care where you move it.
19:36You can spread your legs out this way, backward, forward, any way you want.
19:39Okay, you want to take that pole?
19:40And you can hold this pole any way you want it to.
19:43At the end or partway up, I would suggest holding it about in there, if you don't mind my saying
19:47so.
19:47Your wife is going to stand over here.
19:48Would you come over here, please, Miss Berger?
19:50And she's going to take these paper cups one at a time.
19:52You can move that back and forth any way you want to.
19:54Just leave it on the floor.
19:55She's going to balance these on here, and your problem is to get it up on top of that pole
19:59upside down like that.
20:00Now, a couple of things you may not do.
20:02You may not hold it up high and let it fall off on the chance that it'll drop over, and
20:05you may not take and toss it over.
20:07You must sort of get it up against the thing and tip it over.
20:10Got the idea?
20:11All right, take a look at the clock, see how many seconds you have.
20:13You have exactly 45 seconds for $600 in cash.
20:16Are you ready?
20:17Go!
20:23If you want to choke up on that short stick, you may.
20:26You can hold it anywhere you want to, sir.
20:28That's entirely up to you.
20:32Remember, don't talk this.
20:33You've got to put it on.
20:36Whoo!
20:38Got the idea.
20:39The right to have that pole tipped, too.
20:41If you want to spread your legs further apart, you may and get a deeper tip on it.
20:47Whoo!
21:02All right, go ahead.
21:03Try this, and if you get it all out, even the time is out.
21:06Oh!
21:07No, you didn't do it.
21:08Good try, because you got the idea.
21:12You watched this last week?
21:14Huh?
21:15Well, you figured out already how it does.
21:18I've already had mail telling me that this is impossible, but I'm warning it's not impossible.
21:22I didn't mean to walk you back so far.
21:23Come on over here for the lady sawing in half bit.
21:25All right, sir, if you will step over here and take charge of the saw, and there's a table that
21:29you may saw on.
21:30Now, we're kidding about your wife.
21:31We're not going to make her lie down and saw in half, but here are a series of little figurines
21:34that we have made,
21:35and the lady on this stunt is very happy, as you can see the smile on her face.
21:38These are marks where you can saw right through.
21:41Now, you stand in the back of the table here and saw like this, your wife will give you these
21:44one at a time.
21:45Now, one of these boxes is so fixed that these balloons will not break when you saw right through.
21:49Only one, you see?
21:50When you find that one, we'll stop the clock and you'll beat the clock.
21:53As fast as the balloon breaks, drop the box and get ready for another one from your wife.
21:56Take a look at the clock, see how many seconds you have?
21:5840 seconds.
21:59Are you ready?
21:59Go!
22:03Wrong one.
22:05Wrong one.
22:05Watch your hands, don't get caught up.
22:07Right on the mark, sir.
22:08Right on the mark.
22:10Ah, you got it!
22:11There it was!
22:12Thanks for amazing hands.
22:13Let's put it in the first line.
22:15All right.
22:17Going back over here.
22:18You did it with 20 seconds to spare.
22:20You had 30 left there.
22:22Oh, boy, we're doing fine.
22:24Well, sir.
22:25That wasn't so bad, was it?
22:26You know how to handle a saw, I can tell you that.
22:28Okay, well, we move right along, of course, to your next door, $200 clock.
22:31You ever think you might have worms?
22:34If your computer...
22:35Okay, now, of course, no magic show would be complete without the traditional hat with all the handkerchiefs in it.
22:40So, if you'll come over here with me, sir, I'll show you what this problem entails.
22:43Just your husband this time.
22:45You stand right here and face the audience.
22:47Now, here is the usual top silk hat.
22:49Now, I'm going to place this top silk hat, and it has some colored handkerchiefs in it, as you see,
22:53on your head like that.
22:54Now, it doesn't fit you, which is going to make it harder for you to keep on your head.
22:57All you have to do is, using only one hand, is to very carefully pull all of those handkerchiefs until
23:02they're all out without dropping the hat off.
23:04If you drop the hat off, we'll have to bring another hat out and start all over again.
23:06I'll take a look at the clock for you and see how many seconds you have.
23:0955. Are you ready? Go!
23:10All right, keep going. You've got 45 seconds yet.
23:30That's the idea. Hold your head any way you want it. Doesn't matter.
23:3630 seconds.
23:3925 seconds.
23:4225 seconds.
23:4520 seconds.
23:4915 seconds.
23:50Keep them coming.
23:53There you are!
24:00All right, guys.
24:01The wife's ready to try a jackpot clock.
24:03Could you stand down there, sir, and you step right up here.
24:05Face the audience.
24:06The back of you now is that jackpot board.
24:07Another saying is there.
24:08Get it back in order in 20 seconds, but don't look till I tell you to.
24:11Open the curtain.
24:13Turn around and take a look.
24:17Go!
24:18Go!
24:20Go!
24:21Go!
24:23Go!
24:23Go!
24:23Go!
24:24Get the card to beat the jackpot clock.
24:25Come on, I'm down here again.
24:27Because I haven't beaten the jackpot clock, let's do what you've won.
24:30And to do that, take a look right over here.
24:36Here is another Sylvania Lombard 21-inch console
24:38with all Sylvania's newest engineering features,
24:41plus-exclusive Sylvania Halo Life.
24:42It gives you greater eye-comfort for far more enjoyable viewing.
24:45Congratulations, Mr. or Mrs. Berger.
24:47You, too, have just won Sylvania's jackpot prize.
24:49Congratulations for you and for me, too.
24:51And we'll kick those motions here as I hope to meet him someday.
24:53Goodbye and God bless you.
24:55Bye.
24:58That's all we have time for.
24:59I'm sorry, ladies and gentlemen.
25:00Our time is gone.
25:01But I hope you enjoyed our magic show.
25:03If you did, write us and let us know about it.
25:05We're trying to put little shows on like this.
25:06We thought it was kind of fun and hope you did, too.
25:08Right now, we're looking forward to seeing you next week.
25:10And until then, this is Bud Collier, speaking for Sylvania,
25:13hoping that next time may be your time to beat the clock.
25:16Good night, everybody.
25:42This has been a Mark Woodson, Bill Huffman production,
25:44produced in association with the CBS Television Network.
25:46Beat the clock is brought to you by Sylvania.

25:51This is Bern Bennett reminding you to tune in every week
