00:00Start us off, Simon.
00:02Michael, congratulations.
00:06Sorry, congratulations.
00:07The second game running that Benjamin's come off the bench and got a goal.
00:13Can you just talk about his impact and what he's been like in the squad?
00:18Because I would imagine he'd quite like to start sometimes.
00:21Yeah, there's a bit of that.
00:22I think it's not always as extreme as well.
00:26I think sometimes I get why everyone's talking about it
00:32and making a bigger deal of it.
00:34But I've got a really good relationship with Ben.
00:37We've had some really good conversations.
00:40He's in a really good place.
00:41Part of us is helping him take his steps in development
00:44and growing him as a player.
00:49Sometimes that's little steps.
00:51Sometimes that's bigger steps.
00:52He's taken some huge steps recently in terms of the goals he's scored
00:55and the impact and that confidence and that belief that he's playing with now
01:01is great to see.
01:04We've obviously got to manage that as well.
01:06We've got some good forwards.
01:07So it's one of those decisions that we've got to try and get right.
01:12But I've got no problem with Ben.
01:15He hasn't got an issue.
01:16He obviously wants to play,
01:18but I can't speak highly enough of how he's been
01:20and the work he's putting in
01:22and his attitude to come on and do what he's done again.
01:25I thought he's finished just with so much confidence and belief
01:28and ruthless finish,
01:30which kind of sums up where he's at at the minute,
01:32which is great to see.
01:37Hi, Michael.
01:39Similarly with Matthias Cunha,
01:41I just wonder what it's been like getting to know him
01:43over the last few weeks
01:45because he didn't start the first few games in charge,
01:47but his contribution for the goal plus his defensive shift,
01:52which his teammates seem to really appreciate,
01:54must be really pleasing as well.
01:55Yeah, I think that was kind of where we were tonight.
01:59I think we had to put a lot into the game
02:01and everyone did.
02:02And I think credit to Everton.
02:03They made us dig deep, you know,
02:06and it wasn't the prettiest
02:09or the most perfect game football-wise for us.
02:11But I think, like you say, Matthias,
02:14the defensive work you put in,
02:15the effort, the work rate in the end,
02:17his moment that we know we've got in a group
02:20to create something made the difference for us.
02:23But it comes from him defending really well
02:25and a deep position to then create that transition,
02:28you know.
02:29So he's a great character, Matthias.
02:31Obviously, you've got to know him.
02:33And again, I keep saying it,
02:34but we've not been together that long really.
02:36So sometimes when you get frustrated
02:39with things that you see for the team,
02:42I mean, not as an individual,
02:43but you've kind of got to take a deep breath
02:46and think, you know,
02:47we're trying to put things in place.
02:49The players are still learning.
02:50They're getting to know me.
02:50I'm getting to know them.
02:51So another big moment for Matthias.
02:54He's had a number of them since,
02:57well, since the very start,
02:59starting at City when he came off the bench,
03:00you know,
03:01and he's had a big impact again today for us.
03:02And he's in a good place as well.
03:04I know you'll be looking at it game to game,
03:06but in the wider context,
03:07how much belief do you think the team can take
03:09on a weekend where teams around you drop points?
03:12Maybe earlier in the season,
03:13they weren't taking those opportunities,
03:15but that must really help
03:16while you try and chase the Champions League players.
03:18Yeah, and it takes a lot of different things
03:20to win games as well, you know,
03:22and sometimes it'll come a little bit easier
03:27and it'll click and then the goals will flow
03:29and you attack well
03:30and the game is a lot more in kind of your favour.
03:32Other times, like tonight,
03:34credit to Everton,
03:35you know,
03:35it was a bit of a tight game in some ways
03:37and then it was a little bit sticky.
03:39It wasn't flowing as much for us,
03:41but I think the spirit and the belief
03:43and the trust that the lads are gaining
03:45between themselves
03:45and between all of us,
03:46I think is important
03:47and she kind of spoke about that
03:48before the game, really,
03:49if sometimes you've got to rely on that
03:51and to have it,
03:52don't take it for granted
03:53and they had it tonight.
03:55They needed everybody
03:55to put in that little bit extra
03:57and in the end,
03:58that's what we got out of the game.
04:01Hi, Michael.
04:02Just on Ben and Matthias
04:03and obviously Brian's involved in the goal
04:05and Senna in goal as well
04:06has played well.
04:08Obviously, in the recent past,
04:09we've seen that players who come
04:10and play for Man United
04:11maybe struggle a little bit.
04:13You've been in that situation as well,
04:14coming to this club
04:15and whether it's spotlight,
04:16maybe the scrutiny is a little bit different.
04:17How impressed have you been
04:18with those four guys
04:20since you've arrived?
04:22Yeah, massively
04:23and I think that's part of it sometimes
04:26is learning to cope with it
04:28and I've said it recently,
04:29I said it when I first came,
04:30sometimes, you know,
04:31it was easy
04:32and it's maybe rightly so at times,
04:35not so on others
04:35of just expecting players to perform,
04:38you know,
04:39and sometimes there's a lot more
04:40that goes into it
04:41and feeling the environment,
04:44being comfortable in your surroundings
04:45to be able to perform is important
04:47and sometimes it takes a little bit
04:48of getting used to really
04:49and whether you're starting
04:51or coming off the bench
04:51and that's part of our job
04:53to try and manage that,
04:54you know,
04:56but yeah,
04:56particularly Senna,
04:57I thought he was outstanding tonight.
04:59I think as a goalkeeper,
05:02really,
05:02you couldn't expect,
05:04you couldn't hope for much more,
05:05you know,
05:05safe hands,
05:06calm,
05:06composed,
05:07came and punched when you needed to
05:08and calmed things down,
05:10you know,
05:10I thought it was an exemplary
05:12kind of performance
05:13so it's delighted for him.
05:15Michael,
05:16just following on
05:17from that on Senna,
05:19Van der Sar has been on the TV tonight,
05:22obviously you played with him
05:23for a long time,
05:24in terms of,
05:25I know he's got a long way to go
05:27in his career,
05:28but in terms of his calmness
05:30and that sort of understated manner,
05:32everything just looks unfussy with him,
05:35do you see parallels
05:36in that specific bit of temperament
05:38and personality to Edwin?
05:41Yeah,
05:41I've got to be careful
05:42what I say here
05:43because I know what you mean.
05:44You know what I mean,
05:45just on that.
05:45I definitely see that similarities,
05:49yeah,
05:49without comparing them,
05:50I don't want to be comparing them
05:51because I don't think it's fair to Senna,
05:52but there's definitely similarities.
05:55For me,
05:55he's a goalkeeper
05:56to be reliable,
05:58to be trustworthy
05:58and instead of creating the chaos,
06:01you want him to take the chaos away
06:03and calm things down.
06:04I think Senna is that.
06:05He's quite quiet at times
06:07and unassuming,
06:08but he's got a real steel in this
06:10and to step in,
06:13it's a big, big role for some
06:15and others talking there
06:17about coping
06:18and just being comfortable
06:19in your environment
06:20and sometimes it takes time,
06:22sometimes not,
06:23but how he's going about it
06:26at the moment
06:26is that calmness,
06:28that composure,
06:29I think it does help those
06:30in front of him
06:30an awful lot.
06:32Just on the signings
06:33and Senna in particular,
06:34Michael,
06:35is he maybe an example
06:36of how this club
06:37is starting to get recruitment right?
06:39Because he's a young goalkeeper,
06:41relatively inexperienced
06:42in Belgium
06:42and he's obviously
06:44kind of got
06:45what you're talking about
06:46to play for United.
06:47There's been countless games
06:48this season
06:49where teams are throwing
06:49crosses at him
06:50and he just deals
06:51with them really,
06:52really calm.
06:53Is he,
06:53do you think,
06:54an example of maybe
06:55how things are turning here
06:55when the club are starting
06:56to get things right
06:57in terms of quality of players
06:58and character as well?
07:01In some ways,
07:02yeah,
07:02I think it's difficult
07:04for me to kind of talk
07:05about the past
07:06or when I've not been here,
07:07but certainly the boys
07:09at the moment
07:11who have came in recently
07:12are all playing
07:13a huge part for us,
07:14which is ideal
07:15and a major part of it
07:18is the character,
07:19you know,
07:19and the personality
07:19and that is a major attribute
07:22to Av,
07:23especially playing here.
07:25Senna kind of,
07:28I mean,
07:29the jump that he's had
07:30is a big jump,
07:31no disrespect,
07:32but it's a huge jump
07:33for the one he made
07:34and to take it
07:35like he has done
07:35and just get on with things
07:37speaks volumes
07:38of his kind of personality
07:40and he's so able
07:42to just deal
07:42with the environment
07:43and play at that level.
07:45Don't get,
07:45listen,
07:46that was a tough,
07:46that was a tough place
07:47that last 15 minutes,
07:48the amount of crosses
07:50and corners
07:50and things that he had
07:51to deal with
07:52and a couple of shots
07:53that he just catches
07:54and takes the sting
07:55out of it.
07:55So to be able to do that
07:56in such a manner
07:57was obviously pleasing
07:59for us.
08:01Thanks, everyone.
08:02Thanks.
08:02All right.
