00:01Michael, Kobe Maynou said afterwards that he loves playing for you, the players want to fight for you, they want
00:10to die for you, it's a bit extreme, but it shows what they think of you, and you, however you
00:18want to dress it up, you've delivered sides that have beaten Man City and Arsenal and Chelsea and now Liverpool.
00:27What do you think about doing this job for Manchester United, because I think everyone thinks this should now be
00:35your job.
00:37Yeah, maybe, I think that's one of the biggest things for me is that trying to get the best out
00:43of people, you know, and helping players and giving them the opportunity to go and perform and do what they're
00:49good at, really, and there's that side and then there's obviously being part of it today and seeing this place
00:55alive,
00:55and bouncing at the end is a real joy and a kind of pleasure to be in the position, you
01:02know, so I think there's a group of players who need a lot of credit for the run,
01:08that put them together and the coaching staff as well, especially for the lot of work that goes on, I'm
01:12sat here answering questions, but there's a lot of good work that goes on beyond me,
01:16so, and the pleasing thing about the spirit and the togetherness of the group, I think, to see that camaraderie
01:23and looking after each other and it was tested obviously at 2-2 and seeing them where they're really sticking
01:29in and fighting for each other,
01:31so, that's what we want, you know, we want a team to be proud of and the boys have certainly
01:35given us that.
01:37Andy?
01:38What is it about this team or this performance that impresses you that maybe people don't always see and appreciate?
01:48There was a lot today to be happy with, really, and like you said, to be proud of. I think
01:54we were kind of, we thought, players available-wise,
01:59that they would try and overload the midfield and it was going to be a big challenge for us to
02:03try and close in the space through the middle of the pitch.
02:06We got some really dangerous, dangerous forwards, but we're asking them to do a lot of work without the ball
02:12as well, and that's part of being a good team.
02:15So, the way we closed that space and made it difficult for them, they've got some fantastic plays and they
02:19made it difficult for us,
02:20but I thought the way we stuck at that especially really pleased me a lot.
02:26I have to say the way the supporters got behind us after the two goals, it's easy after that point
02:31to get frustrated,
02:34to go the other way a little bit, and I thought that, again, spirit and your character shows when it's
02:40a little bit of a challenging time,
02:41so I think to feel like we've kind of built that and we're in a position where we'll all stick
02:47together
02:47has really pleased me a lot, and it was just two mistakes, you know, Ahmad and Senna have both been
02:53immense for us
02:54and offered so much within the group and the team to put us in this position,
02:57so that building on to the end of the game and the way that we stuck at it, bounced back,
03:04finished well,
03:06plays come off the bench and making a difference,
03:07I thought it's probably that spirit and togetherness for everybody that satisfies me in the month, really.
03:15Terry?
03:15Hi, Michael, you mentioned a lot there about what you've built and that spirit and togetherness
03:19and getting the fans onside over the last four months, and 10 wins in 14 games,
03:23do you kind of feel like you've earned the right to build on that and take that into next season?
03:28Because, I mean, it's been perfect really what you've got over the last four months.
03:32It's been a good run, I think, you know, we've obviously beat some very, very good teams
03:37and it's been challenging, you know, sometimes we've won it in some ways,
03:39sometimes we've got to win it in other ways, but, yeah, listen, I love doing what I'm doing,
03:45you know, it's a great position for me to be in, it feels pretty natural, if I'm totally honest,
03:50I'm not being blasé because it's a difficult role, but it feels that I've been here a long time
03:55in different times, on and off, but I kind of understand what it brings
04:00and to be sat in this position is a good position to be in.
04:04James?
04:05Just following on from that, Michael, will you be disappointed now if you don't get this job?
04:12We'll have to wait and see, you know.
04:15All we can do, I think, when we came in, I think Champions League, to be honest,
04:18was a little bit in the distance and we wanted to try and get back into Europe,
04:22so to be where we are, the one that players have put together
04:25and with three games to spare is a good achievement.
04:29I see it as just being a step, though, you know, we're not over-celebrating it,
04:33but whatever's going to happen is going to happen, you know,
04:36I can only do my best for the club and for the players especially
04:39and try and help them as best as we can and then see what happens after that.
04:43Rob?
04:44I know you've said a couple of times you don't want to over-celebrate
04:46or qualify for the Champions League, but just in practical terms,
04:49when you're looking at making that next step,
04:51does it make that easier?
04:52I don't know, maybe you've got more money to spend in the summer,
04:54maybe you can attract better players.
04:56Is that how you're looking at it?
04:58No, it's definitely, it's a huge step, don't get me wrong,
05:01for so many reasons.
05:03I'm not under-playing, it's a big step.
05:08The signs of improvement and being in the position now,
05:11like I say, where we are with three games to go,
05:13there's a lot of satisfaction that comes with that,
05:16but that can't be everything, you know,
05:19that's kind of the point I'm making.
05:20I think there's a lot of credit that deserves to the staff
05:23and the players for doing that,
05:24but we want more of that, you know,
05:27we expect more of that consistently
05:30and that's kind of the message really of,
05:32let's try and push on and keep improving.
05:34And it's not just to sit back and think,
05:36no, that was all right, that was good,
05:38we've achieved something, you know.
05:40Paul and then, Sam, yeah.
05:41Mike, you spoke about togetherness,
05:43the players clearly are quite a tight-knit group.
05:45How have you managed to develop that,
05:47or is it something that was sort of there before
05:49but needed a bit of kind of,
05:50a bit more extra kind of attention?
05:52Yeah, I can only say from what I've kind of faced
05:57and seen from my own eyes, really,
05:58and ever since we came back through the doors,
06:02I think the boys have responded really well to it.
06:05I think it comes through trust as well
06:06and how you treat each other
06:07and the trust between us
06:11and the belief certainly that I've got in them
06:13and the staff have got in them
06:14and we spoke about that before the game
06:15about how much belief we've got in them
06:19and it's how trying to give them that confidence
06:21they don't play, they're really good players
06:22and it can be a really good team
06:24when we put things in place
06:25and that's proved to be the case over recent months.
06:28Hi Michael, I know it's a delicate matter
06:29and I'm sure it's in the news about Sir Alex,
06:31is there any comment that you have on behalf of the club?
06:36I haven't gotten any updates
06:37so I don't know the latest as we stand now.
06:39I did hear about it before the game
06:40so I was aware before the game.
06:44All I can say is I wish him and thought so.
06:47I was very kind of affected by it,
06:52you know, the news and we just hope he's alright.
06:54I just don't know the latest
06:55what we hope for him to be in good shape
06:58and we wish him all the best
06:59and certainly thinking of him
07:00and hopefully the result
07:03when he hears about it,
07:04you know,
07:06gives him a good boost.
07:14If you're sitting around next season or not,
07:17I suppose one issue is the squad
07:19because Newcastle this season
07:20is struggling to help with Champions League football
07:23and Premier League football.
07:24Your squad is kind of on the squad.
07:26So is that something you can press on the club
07:28regardless of what happens
07:29that the squad needs to help you up
07:34That's obviously the next challenge,
07:36you know,
07:36we've been in a position where
07:38there's more games.
07:40It's been a bit frustrating at certain points
07:42because we've had big gaps between games
07:43so that's certain,
07:44there's a positive and a negative to that
07:46but certainly the balance of the squad,
07:47what it looks like,
07:48strength, depth,
07:50that's part of the conversations
07:51of anyway,
07:53like I said,
07:54when I came in,
07:55I wasn't ever going to make decisions
07:56just to get to the end of the season.
07:59It was always for the benefit
08:00of the whole football club moving forward.
08:01So we're definitely well aware
08:03of what that should and could look like
08:06and where we want to try and get to.
08:08Last question for Critch.
08:09Hi, Michael.
08:10Just on Bruno and his performance today,
08:12I know you've said all that
08:13you can say about him in the past few weeks
08:14but came close to getting that assist record
08:18and I'm just curious about
08:19the reason they've lined us up at the end
08:21because it's pretty rare
08:21to see him come off the board.
08:24To be honest,
08:25it was just there was a minute or so to go
08:27and we thought we'd get Lenny on the pitch
08:28and obviously Josh had came on,
08:31Pat had came on,
08:32Amad had came on as well
08:33and there was just nothing behind that
08:35apart from him.
08:36Thanks, everyone.
08:37Cheers.
