00:00:39Good evening and welcome to sports scene four massive games are on the way and having made it out of
00:00:44his electric gates Ross McCormick joins us for a much anticipated debut. We start at Tynecastle and league leaders Hearts
00:00:52know there is little room for error as they take on 6th place Falkirk.
00:00:58Hearts are looking to bounce back after that morale sapping loss to Rangers at Ibrox last Sunday Falkirk come here
00:01:04doing victory at Tynecastle is certainly possible after knocking Hearts out of the Scottish Cup just a few weeks ago.
00:01:12Hearts have been dealt a blow in the warm-up as you dropping out Blair Spittle comes in there's another
00:01:17two changes Thomas Magnuson and Michael Steinwender replacing Benny Beningame and Ocean McEntee.
00:01:24Falkirk's defence rocked by suspension and ineligibility, Liam Henderson and Lewis Nielsen drop out, Cole Donaldson comes in, Philip Lyssa
00:01:31is shifted and Kyrel Wilson also comes into the starting 11.
00:01:40and it's given away by Hearts and Falkirk looking to make a fast start here Brad Spencer invited to shoot
00:01:47he drags it just wide it had Alexander Swallow scrambling in the Hearts goal.
00:01:56not a million miles away from the Falkirk midfielder, what a start that could have been for the visitors.
00:02:09Harry Milne goes down but play goes on Kyrel Wilson skipping away from the challenge of Leonard and again the
00:02:17space opens up and he drives it straight at Swallow.
00:02:21Falkirk have started quickly here at Tynecastle, Hearts not awake yet, his side could be ahead already.
00:02:35Blair Spittle just knocking it back to Stuart Finlay and Islam Chesnikov on the turn fires it out and Braga
00:02:43manages to take a touch and then skips inside and pulls it back, this could be Blair Spittle!
00:02:48Oh it's just over the bar, huge chance for Hearts and it's just going to be a goal kick, Blair
00:02:54Spittle adamant that took a deflection and I must admit it certainly looked that way.
00:03:00Keelan Adams throwing himself in front of the shot, just a goal kick.
00:03:10Derek McInnes having to make that late addition to the Hearts starting 11, Blair Spittle hasn't started in a few
00:03:17weeks but he slots straight in.
00:03:20and he shifts the ball out to Alexandros Kizaridis.
00:03:23It goes on the outside, oh it bounces off Leon McCann and into the hands of Scott Bain.
00:03:30He doesn't look too perturbed by that Leon McCann but that could have gone anywhere.
00:03:35Thankfully for the Falkirk defender it's straight to his goalkeeper.
00:03:43It's been a fine season for John McGlynn and Falkirk so far.
00:03:48On course to finish in the top six.
00:03:52And they might be throwing goal here, Barney Stewart has the ball, the flag has stayed down, it's Stewart for
00:03:57goal.
00:03:57It's straight at Swallow.
00:04:00The flag still not going up, that was a decent chance for Falkirk.
00:04:04One of a number in this first half.
00:04:11Spittle curls to the back post, headed away by Leon McCann, Thomas Magnussen was lurking.
00:04:20Hearts trying to carve out a set piece opportunity, they've been so good from set plays this season.
00:04:28Milne with the delivery.
00:04:30Finlay back into a dangerous area.
00:04:36Leonard had to get that pass right and did, somehow picked out Harry Milne.
00:04:42The ball inside, Kizaridis with the touch.
00:04:44It could break for Islam Chesnikov!
00:04:49And the Kazakhstan International has his first goal in Maroon.
00:04:56Hearts finally make the breakthrough at Tyne Castle, on the stroke of half-time.
00:05:03There's a bit of luck with how it comes to Chesnikov, but it's a lovely finish.
00:05:08From Hearts number 99.
00:05:11Just toe-poking it beyond Scott Bain.
00:05:16It's been an even first half, but Hearts proved more clinical.
00:05:24Plenty to be proud of in that Falkirk performance.
00:05:28In the opening 45.
00:05:30They have to defend early on in the second half here.
00:05:33As Claudio Braga whips it wide.
00:05:36That would have been a real sucker punch for Falkirk.
00:05:40Had Hearts stung them either side of the break.
00:05:43And Braga knows he could have done better with that chance.
00:05:49The Hearts looking to set the pace with Celtic and Rangers not playing until tomorrow.
00:05:54They might have a chance to make it too here.
00:05:55Islam Chesnikov, the ball sits up for him.
00:05:58And it's deflected over the bar.
00:06:01He's taken a wee while to warm up.
00:06:04Islam Chesnikov since signing in January.
00:06:07He's got a goal now.
00:06:09He was after a second there.
00:06:18Stewart tries to play the ball that way but straight to Harry Mill.
00:06:22And that's nice play from Spittel.
00:06:24That's lovely play from Spittel.
00:06:26He finds Kusaridis.
00:06:27The ball on in the middle.
00:06:29Oh, it's a brilliant touch from Philip Lyssa.
00:06:33To deny Thomas Magnussen.
00:06:35What would have been a tap in?
00:06:37And what would have been a second goal for Hearts?
00:06:43Bragap skips away from a few challenges.
00:06:46Wins the corner.
00:06:50Enjoying his debut season in Scotland, Claudio Bragap.
00:06:57Hearts with a chance to try and put this game to bed.
00:07:03Meln to the back post, Magnussen back in.
00:07:07Cleared away by Falkirk.
00:07:12Steinwender clips the ball back to Milne.
00:07:15Headed into the middle.
00:07:17It drops to Bragap, brilliant save Scott Bain.
00:07:21The Hearts have made a number of chances without necessarily testing the Falkirk goalkeeper.
00:07:26He had to look alive there though.
00:07:28A snapshot from Bragap.
00:07:33Milne cuts out, that's an important header.
00:07:37And Kusaridis on his bike here.
00:07:40Onto the right foot.
00:07:42Eventually pulls the trigger and beams down well.
00:07:46He had to make a late decision on that Scott Bain.
00:07:50But got a really strong hand to the ball.
00:07:54Milne with the mistake and Falkirk might be in behind here.
00:07:57Stuart Finlay with the tackle.
00:07:59And he immediately holds up a hand and stretches the leg.
00:08:05Do or die defending there.
00:08:07He might have taken a throw and in the process Stuart Finlay.
00:08:11He's got to defend this corner now.
00:08:16Ethan Ross, it drops to Williams.
00:08:18It's there for Stuart.
00:08:20And it's just over the bar.
00:08:23Biggest chance of the second half for Falkirk and for Barney Stuart.
00:08:28And his header from just a few yards out.
00:08:31Loops over the bar.
00:08:34That might have been the chance for Falkirk.
00:08:42Milne looking for Braga over the top.
00:08:44Never finding him.
00:08:46There's a problem here for Hearts and for Stuart Finlay.
00:08:50We saw him make that challenge just a few minutes ago.
00:08:53And his hamstring clearly not recovered.
00:08:56And that's a huge blow for Hearts.
00:08:58They lost Benny Van Ingemi to the late fitness test this morning.
00:09:02They lost Ajou in the warm-up.
00:09:04And now they lose Stuart Finlay in the second half.
00:09:07The injuries mounting up.
00:09:09Lawrence Shanklin, Cammy Devlin and Stephen Kingsley already out.
00:09:14And now Stuart Finlay looks like he's added to the injury list.
00:09:18Jamie McCart replaces him.
00:09:28Turn on the edge of the box from Dylan Tate who then catches Claudio Braga
00:09:33right in front of the referee.
00:09:36And it's just going to be a yellow card for the stand-in Falkirk captain.
00:09:40And the studs are up there.
00:09:43But he only glances Braga with a clipped blow.
00:09:49And that might be what saves him.
00:09:52Because Aridus and Harry Milne over it.
00:09:55Because Aridus to hit, it's deflected, and Scott Bain parries it over.
00:10:02So close to a second for Hearts.
00:10:08The referee being encouraged to blow his full-time whistle by the home faithful at Tynecastle.
00:10:15Now he obliges, and Hearts have the three points.
00:10:19They continue to set the pace in the Scottish Premiership.
00:10:22And they put the pressure right on their title rivals.
00:10:26Celtic and Rangers playing tomorrow.
00:10:29Who can keep up?
00:10:30Hearts go five points clear.
00:10:33Possibly, briefly, slam Chesnikov with the goal.
00:10:36It finishes at Tynecastle.
00:10:37Hearts one, Falkirk nil.
00:10:40Listen, I thought we started okay.
00:10:43I thought our out-of-possession stuff was better than our in-possession.
00:10:46I don't think we really knitted the game together as well as we'd hoped.
00:10:50Obviously, we go with one strike and two wide players.
00:10:53The benefit of the two wide players combined for the goal.
00:10:56Kizridis coming in off shape.
00:10:57I love the little pass to Chesnikov and a lovely finish for Islam.
00:11:01So really pleased for him and Kizridis' part in it as well.
00:11:04But you'd have to say it was a first half at times.
00:11:09Probably for a 20-25 minute spell where there was a lot of nervousness about.
00:11:13I thought we were a better team in the second half.
00:11:15Kept them at arm's length, to be honest.
00:11:18But while it's 1-0, it's never going to be comfortable.
00:11:21Particularly against a team like Falkirk who have got good attacking threats ordinarily.
00:11:25I'm frustrated with our performance, actually.
00:11:27I don't think we were at our best.
00:11:28I do take into consideration we're a wave at home to the league leaders
00:11:32who are looking to bounce back from a defeat last week and giving it everything.
00:11:37But we felt we could come and put up a fight.
00:11:42We were a bit naive.
00:11:45A bit of frustration that we didn't take more responsibility in the final third of the pitch.
00:11:50Particularly in the first half.
00:11:52But not exclusively.
00:11:54To lose a goal, the timing was bad game management from our point of view.
00:11:59We lose a goal virtually right on half-time.
00:12:01In the second half, to be fair, we've not done enough.
00:12:03We've not created enough. That's the frustration.
00:12:06Barney, I think, has had a couple of opportunities that he should have done better way.
00:12:08He should have taken responsibility.
00:12:10We asked for players to take more responsibility in the second half by shooting.
00:12:13On the odd occasion that we did get there, we passed the buck.
00:12:17Then they take the responsibility to shoot.
00:12:19And Barney had another chance with a header that he puts over the bar,
00:12:23which could have changed things.
00:12:25We've got Scott Payne to thank from a couple of great saves as well in the second half,
00:12:30which he's done all season for us.
00:12:31He's been amazing.
00:12:34We're a little bit frustrated, but at the same time, the guys have put up a competitive performance.
00:12:40A priceless win for Hearts, who remain unbeaten at Timecastle this season in the league.
00:12:45It wasn't their best performance.
00:12:47I think Derek kind of pointed to that, especially in the first half.
00:12:50But right now, it is all about winning games for Hearts, Ross.
00:12:53Yeah, you've hit the nail on the head.
00:12:54Listen, there's no getting away from the fact that they weren't at the fluent best.
00:12:57But when you've got attackers, the likes of Kisaridis, Chesnowskis, Spital and Behind,
00:13:03who played some fantastic passes today, you've always got a chance.
00:13:06Yeah, you do.
00:13:07The only goal of the game, it was brilliantly worked from Hearts.
00:13:11Derek again mentioning it.
00:13:12Lovely wee take on the edge of the box, spin and turn through.
00:13:15And actually, a really good finish.
00:13:17I think the toe poke was pretty much all that was on for Chesnikov at that stage.
00:13:21Yeah, I mean, that's the difference now.
00:13:23The players that they've got at the top end of the pitch, the threat that they've got.
00:13:26I mean, teams are scared going to Tyne Castle, but you see it here.
00:13:30Harry Milne, who was involved in absolutely everything today.
00:13:33Yeah, another good game.
00:13:33You know, great defensively, good going forward.
00:13:36But this touch here from Kisaridis on his back foot, on the turn,
00:13:41and then the awareness to play this little reverse pass.
00:13:43It gets a little bit of luck, but like you said, that's the only finish that's on.
00:13:47It was a toe poke.
00:13:48Yeah, it was.
00:13:49I mean, in the first half, Hearts struggling to create massive opportunities in the game.
00:13:54But this one was a real moment of quality.
00:13:57And a game that maybe lacked that killer instinct in the final third.
00:14:01Yeah, but when you've got defenders behind you who you know are going to keep teams out,
00:14:05and the defenders have the confidence in the attackers to create one or two chances and take one,
00:14:09then confidence, you know, the confidence is high.
00:14:12But as we said, they weren't at their best.
00:14:14I don't think Derek McInnes will be too bothered about that.
00:14:17No.
00:14:17This time of the season, it's all about three points.
00:14:19It's only about the three points.
00:14:21Scott Bain was the busier of the two goalkeepers.
00:14:23Made a couple of decent stops in that second half.
00:14:26When Hearts probably were a wee bit better than they were in the first.
00:14:30Yeah, I mean, the first one that was seized from Braga.
00:14:34He probably should save it.
00:14:35I think it's the next one for me.
00:14:37It comes through a few bodies.
00:14:38It's just next to his right foot.
00:14:40As you can see, Harry Milne again.
00:14:42He's winning it.
00:14:43He's on the go.
00:14:44But when Kizirida cuts inside here,
00:14:46you can see it.
00:14:47There's a few bodies in front of Bain,
00:14:49and it's down low and hard.
00:14:51He's actually managed to hold it as well.
00:14:52How often do you see Kizirida's doing this?
00:14:54I mean, pretty much every match.
00:14:56I thought teams would have cottoned on to it by now,
00:14:58because he ain't going to go down the outside of you.
00:14:59No, but I think he's a good enough player, Tomo,
00:15:01that if you do start showing him one way,
00:15:04he will be able to go the other way.
00:15:06He can go both ways.
00:15:07Aye, he can.
00:15:08Just how big a win was that for Hearts in terms of
00:15:10putting the pressure back on to Rangers and Celtic,
00:15:13who obviously both play tomorrow?
00:15:15Yeah, both play tomorrow.
00:15:16I expect them both to win tomorrow, to be honest.
00:15:18But I think Hearts are...
00:15:20You know, we hear it all the time,
00:15:22this one game at a time, old cliche,
00:15:23but Hearts can only do what they can do.
00:15:26They can beat the teams that are in front of them
00:15:27and then hope that Rangers and Celtic drop points.
00:15:30But they're in a...
00:15:30If you'd have given them this position at the start of the season,
00:15:33they'd have snapped your hands off for it.
00:15:34Oh, I think there's absolutely no doubt about that.
00:15:36Back-to-back defeats for Folkirk.
00:15:39Obviously, no panic about that.
00:15:41They're still in a very strong position in terms of the top six,
00:15:44but maybe just need to start finding that rhythm again.
00:15:47They do. I think it's just a cutting edge.
00:15:48You can see them, see it today.
00:15:50They played some good football,
00:15:51but just without really that end product as such.
00:15:54But listen, back-to-back promotions,
00:15:56they're firmly in that top six.
00:15:59I expect them to finish there.
00:16:00And if they do, it's a great season for John McGowan.
00:16:03What a job he's doing, by the way.
00:16:04Agreed.
00:16:05OK.
00:16:06Scottish Cup holders Aberdeen welcome Dundee now,
00:16:08having booked their place in the last eight on Wednesday evening.
00:16:13Aberdeen have never beaten Motherwell
00:16:15in the Scottish Cup here at Pintaudry.
00:16:22And that is the worst possible start
00:16:24for the visitors.
00:16:29Kevin Nisbetts.
00:16:31It is a hammer blow for Motherwell.
00:16:36Dennis Geiger has also been red-carded.
00:16:45This could spell really bad news for Liam Gordon.
00:16:50Motherwell down to nine main.
00:16:54And the captain smashes the ball low into the corner of the net.
00:17:00An incredible encounter.
00:17:08Aberdeen's Scottish Cup win against Motherwell
00:17:09brought some much-needed positivity to Pintaudry.
00:17:12This, though, feels like a must-win if they want to finish in the top six.
00:17:16Dundee are without a win in five league games
00:17:19and could do with one while others breathe down their necks.
00:17:24Well, Graeme Shinney serves the final game of his league suspension
00:17:26while Jack Milne and Nicholas Milanovic drop to the bench.
00:17:29In come Morrison, Aremu and Olisanya.
00:17:32Geiger is free to start because his ban only applies to the Cup.
00:17:35The only change for Dundee from last week's draw with Livingston is at left-back.
00:17:39Dre Wright switches sides and Amari Samuels replaces the injured Brad Halliday.
00:17:50Aberdeen have won the last five league meetings between these sides
00:17:54and Dundee haven't won in the league at Pintaudry since 2004.
00:18:01McCracken, oh, and Keskenen has closed that down
00:18:03and Nisbet has an open goal!
00:18:05But he can't find a net.
00:18:09He was some distance out, took the first-time header.
00:18:13John McCracken, big error last week against Livingston.
00:18:16Not covering himself in glory there either.
00:18:22Keskenen.
00:18:24The fin is on the march.
00:18:26Burrows round and threads it through to Cameron.
00:18:29Or Olisanya overrun it.
00:18:33He is still searching for his first Aberdeen goal, Toyosi Olisanya.
00:18:46Positive start from Aberdeen.
00:18:48In desperate need of a league win.
00:18:51Lost seven of their last nine.
00:18:55Keskenen finds Nisbet.
00:18:57Touch and shot.
00:18:58McCracken spills it.
00:18:59And Olisanya celebrates.
00:19:02He thinks that's his first in reds.
00:19:05It may well have already gone over the line.
00:19:07And I'm sure Kevin Nisbet will be claiming it did.
00:19:11And John McCracken will be rueing some loose goalkeeping.
00:19:16It's well worked down the left by frame and Keskenen.
00:19:21Nisbet doesn't need much invitation in the box to get a strike away.
00:19:24And I think that is over the line before Olisanya helps it further into the goal.
00:19:30And Aberdeen don't care who's got it.
00:19:32It's 1-0.
00:19:36Dundee really on the ropes at Petaudry as Cameron sends the free kick in.
00:19:39The referee's whistle sounded there.
00:19:41And Nisbet didn't hear it and fires it into the bottom corner.
00:19:45Steve McLean saying he'd stopped play.
00:19:50Aberdeen are bemused as to why.
00:19:53The goal won't stand.
00:19:56And Aberdeen will have to retake this free kick.
00:20:01Some unhappy punters at Petaudry with that decision as Cameron goes again.
00:20:07This time Dundee get it half clear.
00:20:09Keskenen.
00:20:10Olisanya.
00:20:12Sliced well wide.
00:20:15Stephen McLean not the most popular man at Petaudry after that decision.
00:20:26Dundee work their way back into this game.
00:20:30Morrison's under severe pressure here.
00:20:32And Jogan hits the turf.
00:20:34And it's a penalty.
00:20:37Big opportunity for Dundee to get back.
00:20:40Liam Morrison protests his innocence.
00:20:43Jogan's pace wreaked havoc in behind.
00:20:46He's onside there.
00:20:49Gets his body smartly in front of Morrison.
00:20:52Whose momentum takes him straight into the Dundee winger.
00:20:57And Steve McLean being called across.
00:21:00He'll have looked at this and concluded Jogan is onside.
00:21:04And whether the contact was in or outside the box.
00:21:07And I wonder if Liam Morrison could be in a spot of bother here for denying an obvious goal scoring
00:21:13opportunity.
00:21:14The initial contact is outside the box.
00:21:18They must think that it's continued insides with a hand on the shoulder.
00:21:24Steve McLean in conversation with Greg Aitken, the VAR.
00:21:32Taking their time to come to a decision here.
00:21:39Looks like it does continue into the box.
00:21:41Is that an obvious chance for Tony Hogan to get a strike away?
00:21:45It looks like it.
00:21:48And Liam Morrison is gone.
00:21:49And Aberdeen are down to ten men.
00:21:53For the fourth time in their last five games.
00:21:58Peter leaving can't believe it.
00:22:01Double jeopardy doesn't bail them out.
00:22:04It's going to be a red card and a penalty.
00:22:06And Kevin Nisbet booked for his protests.
00:22:09And that is a huge moment in the game.
00:22:12All sparked from a simple ball over the top.
00:22:16Aberdeen defence at sixes and sevens.
00:22:18And Morrison sent down the tunnel.
00:22:27Simon Murray.
00:22:28The captain takes responsibility.
00:22:31Looks at the referee, waits, and sweeps home.
00:22:38And a more sedate Simon Murray celebration.
00:22:41But it means every bit as much as Dundee.
00:22:44Hit back at Petaudry.
00:22:46After going behind they've been really good.
00:22:49And their pressure has forced a red card and a penalty.
00:22:52And Murray has really made sure it counts.
00:22:56Six added minutes at the end of this first half after that lengthy check.
00:23:01Joghan slides it down the side of the box for Samuels.
00:23:04Murray.
00:23:05Oh, he's done well to keep that alive.
00:23:08Danda.
00:23:09Congreve.
00:23:10Chops onto the right foot.
00:23:11Oh, Bratweit makes a meal of it.
00:23:13And it's forced home by Cottrell.
00:23:18Dundee in front.
00:23:20The turnaround is complete.
00:23:22Congreve is claiming it's his goal.
00:23:25But Cottrell will be saying it's my first in dark blue.
00:23:30Aberdeen completely ripped apart.
00:23:33Down the left-hand side.
00:23:36And Congreve.
00:23:37How often have we seen him do that?
00:23:39Switching onto his right.
00:23:41Loose goalkeeping from Bratweit.
00:23:44I don't quite think it was over the line before Cottrell followed it in.
00:23:51And he will get the goal.
00:23:53Dundee going at the break in front.
00:24:00Decent effort from Cottrell, is he?
00:24:02Looks to add another.
00:24:04Bratweit.
00:24:06Had to be really alert there.
00:24:11Yogan really enjoying himself down the left wing.
00:24:20Aberdeen down to ten.
00:24:23Needs some inspiration but it's coming from Dundee at the moment.
00:24:27And Bratweit spills that low drive from Danda.
00:24:33Just using the greasy surface here and it's squirmed away from the Norwegian.
00:24:42Danda.
00:24:45Becoming a more important player for Dundee by the week.
00:24:47And he's picked out Murray who can't find the net.
00:24:51Offside flag is up.
00:24:56Good save from the Aberdeen goalkeeper regardless.
00:25:00And Murray looks tight and he looks just off.
00:25:04Ought to have found the goal anyway.
00:25:09Peter Lieven staring at it.
00:25:12Fifth defeat in six league games in interim charge.
00:25:16Samuels.
00:25:19To the menacing Yogan.
00:25:21Onto the right foot.
00:25:23Murray.
00:25:24Can't get any purchase on it.
00:25:26Danda will though.
00:25:28And again Bratweit forced to make a stop.
00:25:33Caught it sweetly.
00:25:35Did the heart slow knee.
00:25:38Dundee yet to kill Aberdeen off though.
00:25:43Cameron.
00:25:46Dre Wright swipes it.
00:25:48Rather loosely to the edge of the box.
00:25:53Cameron on the half turn.
00:25:54Gets the free kick.
00:25:57The former D.
00:26:00Buys the Dons.
00:26:02The free kick in a handy position here.
00:26:13Kevin Nisbet.
00:26:14Well he scored a free kick against Motherwell midweek.
00:26:17Closer in though.
00:26:18He goes from further out.
00:26:23Pick that out.
00:26:28A simply stunning free kick from Kevin Nisbet.
00:26:31Halls Aberdeen off the canvas.
00:26:35Again they have no right to still be in.
00:26:37But the brilliance of their number 15.
00:26:41Has them back level.
00:26:43Against the odds.
00:26:47Steven Presley will be sickened by that.
00:26:51The side not being ruthless enough.
00:26:54And Yogan.
00:26:55Gets the better of Devlin.
00:26:58But not McIntyre.
00:27:01Sensational last ditch challenge.
00:27:03From the Aberdeen centre back.
00:27:05But Yogan causing problems.
00:27:07Yet again.
00:27:09Really poor from Nicky Devlin.
00:27:12Looking for the foul.
00:27:13But there wasn't much in that at all.
00:27:17Dundee corner.
00:27:18Oh and it's flicked over by Graham.
00:27:22They keep coming.
00:27:24Is it going to be one of those days.
00:27:27For the dark blue side of Dundee.
00:27:35Dundee.
00:27:35No winning five in the league.
00:27:38Dundee chasing.
00:27:41An overdue victory at Petaudry.
00:27:46Hamilton.
00:27:48Fast feet.
00:27:49Evades Cameron.
00:27:50And he unleashes.
00:27:51Oh.
00:27:54It's another stunner.
00:28:00That is a goal fit to win any game.
00:28:06Every Dundee fan on their feet.
00:28:09Applauding.
00:28:10And Ethan Hamilton.
00:28:12May as well take a bow.
00:28:13As well as the acclaim.
00:28:15As well as the acclaim.
00:28:15Because this.
00:28:16Is just unstoppable.
00:28:20Couldn't have placed it any better.
00:28:26Nice play.
00:28:27To evade the challenge.
00:28:29And it is a missile into the top corner.
00:28:32And it puts Dundee back in front once more.
00:28:41Danda.
00:28:42No need for urgency for Dundee.
00:28:46They have a first win at Petaudry.
00:28:50Since 2004.
00:28:52Ethan Hamilton.
00:28:55With an absolutely brilliant winner.
00:28:57Kevin Nisbets wasn't bad either.
00:28:59But it is Hamilton.
00:29:00Who is the one smiling come full time.
00:29:02Aberdeen two.
00:29:03Dundee three.
00:29:06But I have to say this about the group.
00:29:08We didn't start particularly well.
00:29:10We had a setback.
00:29:11And then we came back from that.
00:29:12We showed terrific personality.
00:29:14And terrific character.
00:29:15And then after going 2-1 up.
00:29:18And with them down to ten men.
00:29:20We had another hammer blow.
00:29:22And we responded brilliantly again.
00:29:24It was a winning performance.
00:29:25And that is really pleasing.
00:29:27Yeah.
00:29:28Just kind of.
00:29:28I don't know.
00:29:28Just kind of got a little bit of space.
00:29:30Might as well have a goal.
00:29:31There was only five.
00:29:33Not long left in the court.
00:29:34So yeah.
00:29:35Just thankfully it went in.
00:29:37Really frustrating.
00:29:38I thought we started really well.
00:29:41Scored a goal.
00:29:42Then we scored another goal.
00:29:43And I don't know why.
00:29:44Because we just watched it there.
00:29:45He looked like he put his whistle to his mouth.
00:29:47Dropped it.
00:29:47Watched the goal get in.
00:29:48Then brought it back.
00:29:50Lyle said.
00:29:51He never said wait for the whistle.
00:29:52So.
00:29:52A lot more confused on that one.
00:29:54Then obviously they equalised.
00:29:56And then obviously.
00:29:57The red card.
00:29:59We need to be better.
00:29:59We need to be better.
00:30:00Dealing with one long ball.
00:30:03But.
00:30:03I don't see like.
00:30:04He's cut across him.
00:30:05I don't know what he can do.
00:30:06I don't know why we get punished twice.
00:30:08But listen.
00:30:09We've got to deal with the long ball better.
00:30:10We need to match the runs.
00:30:12But yeah.
00:30:13Very disappointing.
00:30:15Well a game at Pataudry.
00:30:16Dundee's 22 year wait for a win there.
00:30:19Is now over.
00:30:21And Ross.
00:30:21What an important three points that could be for Dundee in the context of Premiership survival.
00:30:27Huge isn't it?
00:30:28Especially when you take into consideration last week.
00:30:312-0 up against the bottom club Livingstone.
00:30:33Surrendering that lead.
00:30:35I thought they were fantastic today.
00:30:37I thought they were excellent.
00:30:38And.
00:30:39You can't get a better goal to win a game can you?
00:30:40You cannot.
00:30:41We'll look at that shortly.
00:30:42The first goal of the game came from Kevin Nisbet.
00:30:45Good movement.
00:30:45I think you were impressed with how he moves off the defender to find the space.
00:30:48Yeah I do.
00:30:49I mean.
00:30:49You look at it.
00:30:50It looks as if there's not much on when Keskinen gets down the line here.
00:30:55But this little check here.
00:30:56Buys himself five.
00:30:58You know.
00:30:58Four or five yards.
00:30:59That allows him to take a touch.
00:31:00And get the shot away.
00:31:02To be honest with you.
00:31:03The keeper's probably not going to want to see that again.
00:31:05And I don't know why Olesanya is claiming it.
00:31:07It's a yard over the line.
00:31:09You'd have done that 100%.
00:31:10I did the top off.
00:31:13But yeah.
00:31:14I mean.
00:31:15You're right.
00:31:15The movement.
00:31:16Excellent.
00:31:16He hits a decent shot.
00:31:18John McCracken.
00:31:19He's got to be doing better.
00:31:21In terms of pamming that out.
00:31:23And Olesanya.
00:31:23No.
00:31:24It's definitely not your goal.
00:31:25Big moment to look at now.
00:31:27A moment that took VAR a good five minutes to come to their conclusion.
00:31:33Liam Morrison.
00:31:35Initially penalty given.
00:31:38And then obviously a yellow card.
00:31:41But VAR upgrading it to red.
00:31:43What's your thoughts on the first part.
00:31:46The penalty kick.
00:31:47So the first part.
00:31:48I think they've got it wrong.
00:31:49I think the original clip is just outside the box.
00:31:53There might be a little bit of contact.
00:31:54You can see it there on his right foot.
00:31:56The contact that's inside the box is just hands on the back.
00:32:00It's not a push or anything like that.
00:32:02So I think he's got that one wrong Tom.
00:32:04I think it's a free kick.
00:32:05Do you think Ilgan's clever though to use his body to put himself in that position in front of Morrison?
00:32:12See if you think Ilgan's clever.
00:32:13See if you look at Simon Murray in the replay as well.
00:32:15He makes contact.
00:32:17He makes contact with the defender so he can't get to it.
00:32:19And that allows Ilgan to get in behind him.
00:32:22So you think definitely outside for you.
00:32:24I mean it's very difficult to see.
00:32:25And I think the point is now when they go to VAR and VAR suggest an upgrade to a red
00:32:31card as well as a penalty kick.
00:32:34Is it almost impossible for them to suggest that it's the wrong decision?
00:32:39Penalty's been given.
00:32:40Can you positively say that that isn't a penalty kick?
00:32:43I mean I find it very difficult.
00:32:44I can't say that isn't a penalty definitively.
00:32:46No you can't.
00:32:48And to be honest I didn't expect it to be a free kick.
00:32:52But as I said the initial clip is outside the box.
00:32:55Where there's enough contact in the box on his back is debatable.
00:32:59But I think when it comes to the red card I don't think there's any doubt I think they've got
00:33:04that correct.
00:33:05Yeah he's definitely going to get a shot of it.
00:33:06Yeah he's going to get a shot of it.
00:33:07I think we can agree on that.
00:33:11Another goalkeeper error this time it was for Aberdeen.
00:33:13Simon Murray doing some really good work keeping the ball alive in the box.
00:33:16But you'd expect the goalkeeper to see if it's near post.
00:33:20Yeah I mean he's not had the best of afternoons.
00:33:23And what we'll see here is Devlin's got to drop a little bit quicker.
00:33:26And that ball in behind can't happen.
00:33:28Simon Murray I think does ever so well there.
00:33:30Just to keep a hold of it really.
00:33:32But when it comes here the keeper's got to do better again.
00:33:36Well I mean initially you think it's Congreve's goal.
00:33:40But then it's actually Cotterell because when the goalkeeper then no I palms it back out.
00:33:46It's kind of on the line Cotterell's following up.
00:33:48And eventually the goal is given to him as you see here.
00:33:52In fact he gets put off from the goalkeeper so it's probably a wee bit fortuitous.
00:33:56Yeah the keeper's trying to make up for his own mistake there hasn't he.
00:33:59But I don't think there's anything he can do.
00:34:01He's just trying to claw out and that's good play actually following it in.
00:34:04It was.
00:34:05I mean at this point in time you know Aberdeen down to the ten men.
00:34:10And Dundee were putting them under a lot of pressure in terms of opportunities.
00:34:13But Aberdeen themselves they weren't giving up.
00:34:16They were putting up a fight and got the equalising goal.
00:34:19And it's an outstanding finish from Kevin Nisbet.
00:34:22Yeah sometimes I mean I know the goalkeeper dives late.
00:34:25I've no idea why he dives to be honest.
00:34:27But you know it's just a piece of individual brilliance.
00:34:30That's what it is yeah.
00:34:31And he's capable of it Nisbet he really is.
00:34:34He's proven over the years he's a goalscorer.
00:34:36That's just phenomenal.
00:34:38Yeah I mean I think he's got the distance to get it up and down.
00:34:42I think that's key there isn't it?
00:34:44And he's obviously a very good finisher.
00:34:45If it was a wee bit closer is he going to manage to get it up and down like he
00:34:47does?
00:34:48No I think we were speaking about it.
00:34:50There was a free kick maybe a little bit later on.
00:34:52When we were thinking he's got to go back across the goalkeeper.
00:34:54There's no space to get it up and down.
00:34:56But that there like you said.
00:34:57He can get the whip he can get the dip.
00:34:59Because there's a good amount of yardage on it.
00:35:02Great finish.
00:35:02Not quite as good a finish as this one.
00:35:05And I think Thomas Duncan said in commentary a goal fit to win any game.
00:35:09And that is certainly the way to talk about this finish from Ethan Hamilton.
00:35:13A hundred percent.
00:35:14And he's becoming renowned for it isn't it?
00:35:17I think two weeks ago in the Cup at Park County he scored another cracker.
00:35:21But you can see it here.
00:35:22It looks like there's nothing on when he picks it up.
00:35:24Just checks inside.
00:35:26And he's probably right thinking he'll have a hit.
00:35:28But in his wildest dreams he thought he would catch it like that.
00:35:31You just can't catch it any better.
00:35:32No you can't.
00:35:33When you watch it from behind the goals as well.
00:35:35It's actually swinging away from the goalkeeper.
00:35:37It's incredible.
00:35:40Yeah.
00:35:40I think 28 yards out.
00:35:42And as soon as it leaves its foot.
00:35:43The goalkeeper's got absolutely no chance whatsoever of saving it.
00:35:47And it's such a big moment for Dundee as we discussed at the top.
00:35:49Because they are in or have been in a very kind of perilous position down at the bottom of the
00:35:54table.
00:35:55And this gives them a wee touch of breathing space.
00:35:58And obviously Steven Presley absolutely delighted.
00:36:00And first win at Aberdeen since 2004.
00:36:03A great night for him.
00:36:04We should really enjoy it.
00:36:06For Aberdeen I mean it's one win in ten league games.
00:36:09They've lost eight of those games.
00:36:12With the managerial position as it is as well.
00:36:15Can you understand a real source of frustration for those Aberdeen fans?
00:36:19For sure yeah.
00:36:20It's a bit of a wasted season isn't it?
00:36:22You talk about the lack of wins.
00:36:24For me what's even more depressing for Aberdeen fans.
00:36:28They've failed to score in six of the last eight league games.
00:36:31Now that's not good enough for a club like Aberdeen.
00:36:33But I think the owners have got to take responsibility here.
00:36:38Peter's been in a difficult situation.
00:36:40I don't think that a club the size of Aberdeen can just coast through the rest of the season with
00:36:44a coach.
00:36:45I believe that they should have went and got a manager as soon as possible.
00:36:48Okay.
00:36:49Come on it's only a wee win this season came at Tannabase.
00:36:52When the pitch was looking a wee bit better than it was today.
00:36:54They're back up there again against Scottish Cup quarterfinalist Dundee this afternoon.
00:37:01Welcome to Tannabase for the rescheduled Scottish Cup fifth round tie between Dundee United and Spartans.
00:37:08Here comes Spartans on the counter and it's White that's leading it.
00:37:11And he's just blocked there by Yogi.
00:37:14He's coming in the red car!
00:37:16Oh my goodness!
00:37:19In it comes.
00:37:20The near post-classic error goal.
00:37:22It's Ross Graham.
00:37:26Dolce away from one.
00:37:27And he slides it forward.
00:37:28It's Waters.
00:37:29Waters leaves it for Fata.
00:37:30Fata's in here for number two!
00:37:32There it is!
00:37:35Comes to Keynes in there.
00:37:37Lays it to the edge of the box.
00:37:38Shot comes in.
00:37:39And oh what a goal that is!
00:37:42Spartans are back in it!
00:37:45Really good evenings entertainment at Tannabase.
00:37:48Dundee United's class saw them through in the end.
00:37:51It finishes.
00:37:51Dundee United two!
00:37:53Spartans one!
00:37:58Dundee United have won back-to-back games in Europe this season but have yet to do so in the
00:38:03league.
00:38:03Having won last week at Falkirk leave the opportunity to change that today.
00:38:08Kilmarnock travel to the scene of their only away league win this season and they will look to build on
00:38:12a series of recent successes at Tannabase.
00:38:16Three points and advancement in the Scottish Cup.
00:38:19Not a bad week to work for Jim Goodwin and his side.
00:38:22He makes two changes to the side who ran out against the Spartans.
00:38:25Ryan Strain and Ivan Dolcek settled for sub-spots.
00:38:29There's a start for Lucas Stevenson and a debut for a 21-year-old Guinean Emmanuel Adji who was sent
00:38:35off in his last appearance in Israeli football.
00:38:38Kilmarnock showed much to please manager Neil McCann in the loss to Celtic but please didn't translate to points.
00:38:43It also had an injury to the in-form Therese John-Jules who misses out today.
00:38:48He's replaced by Aaron Tishmore.
00:38:58Kilmarnock.
00:39:01Lovely touch and turn.
00:39:03Tries to work the 1-2.
00:39:04Waters.
00:39:05Kilmarnock in again.
00:39:08Stevenson low ball and brilliant finish!
00:39:12Hits the crossbar though!
00:39:15Kilmarn opened the foot up!
00:39:17What a goal that would have been!
00:39:20What a finish!
00:39:22That would have been.
00:39:22He started the move.
00:39:24Worked so hard.
00:39:26Great ball in by Stevenson.
00:39:28That should have been 1-0.
00:39:32Couldn't fancy changing that floodlight.
00:39:36Sent long.
00:39:39Straight.
00:39:41Still straight.
00:39:43Somehow gets that across.
00:39:45What a ball!
00:39:47Opportunity for Ferry.
00:39:48Cuts on the inside, goes down, it's a penalty!
00:39:53While Brad Lyons upends him.
00:39:56And the referee had the simple task of pointing to the spot.
00:40:01Wonderful cross.
00:40:03Flicked on.
00:40:04You could see Ferry coming in.
00:40:07Now was it enough?
00:40:09So the penalty is confirmed.
00:40:17And Omar Fata, three goals in his last seven.
00:40:22Fata for United.
00:40:23Roos for the save!
00:40:27Goalkeeper not only guessed right, he pushed it away brilliantly.
00:40:31Fata, denied by Keller Roos.
00:40:33United's trouble from 12 yards out continues.
00:40:37But credit the goalkeeper.
00:40:41Chauvet.
00:40:44Fata.
00:40:47Chauvet transfer across to Shibola.
00:40:50Kamara, he's been outstanding at times.
00:40:53Coming forward.
00:40:54Out wide, it goes.
00:40:55Strain.
00:40:56Ball into the middle.
00:40:57Chance for Dundee United.
00:40:58Still a chance for Dundee United.
00:41:01They couldn't take it.
00:41:03Stephenson was played through.
00:41:07Well he's lit up this place.
00:41:10Nice Kamara.
00:41:12Somehow Stephenson almost got away with that.
00:41:15Beautifully kept in by Waters.
00:41:25Kamara, he's just overrun that.
00:41:28Touched away by Curtis.
00:41:30Kilty taken out late.
00:41:33Here's Marley Watkins.
00:41:35The half-time change.
00:41:37That's awkward.
00:41:38That could be a penalty.
00:41:41Well Curtis was looking for it.
00:41:43I did wonder if he stumbled, but he did turn back and climb.
00:41:48I didn't think it was handball.
00:41:55Ferry sends the head flick on.
00:41:57It's bouncing around.
00:41:58Here's a chance for United.
00:41:59It's off the post.
00:42:03Chauvet would battle his way through.
00:42:06Ferry.
00:42:07It's another decent ball in.
00:42:09Fanta tried the header.
00:42:10There's the chance.
00:42:11Great block by Brown.
00:42:15The Killy goal under severe threat here.
00:42:18There was the throw.
00:42:19Came back.
00:42:20So they got the touch.
00:42:22Brown and the post combining.
00:42:24Chauvet denied.
00:42:25And the United haven't led against Killy since December of 2024.
00:42:34Strange.
00:42:35It's an inventing ball.
00:42:38Fanta.
00:42:39Got himself free.
00:42:41Couldn't direct on target.
00:42:43He was a constant threat.
00:42:44But I feel the goalkeeper had it covered.
00:42:50Looked a little clumsy.
00:42:52Was well recovered.
00:42:54Thompson.
00:42:56Tomorrow wins it.
00:42:58Stephenson.
00:42:59Lines up the shot.
00:43:00Deflected.
00:43:02And Roos has to make the save.
00:43:07Came off the bench the other night.
00:43:09He's been a regular starter.
00:43:12Let's fly with that one.
00:43:20He's played man first.
00:43:22Ball second.
00:43:23Free kick.
00:43:25Despite.
00:43:26His annoyance.
00:43:39Fanta.
00:43:41Takes on his man.
00:43:42And scores beautifully.
00:43:46Lassem showed on the inside.
00:43:47And Fanta said.
00:43:48I'll show you what I can do.
00:43:54It's a stunning strike.
00:43:56For Dundee United.
00:43:57Who lead Kilmarnock.
00:43:58For the first time.
00:43:59This season.
00:44:02It was a simple ball in.
00:44:04There was the tip of the shoulder.
00:44:06And Roos knew.
00:44:08That that was gone beyond them.
00:44:11You know.
00:44:11His only hope was.
00:44:12It was going to land wide.
00:44:13It didn't.
00:44:15Kissed the woodwork.
00:44:17Kissed the back of the net.
00:44:18And Dundee United lead.
00:44:20And a very damp turn of dice.
00:44:27Now opens up for Kilmarnock.
00:44:29Here's David Watson.
00:44:31Watson.
00:44:31Wasn't the best ball across.
00:44:33It might actually work though.
00:44:36Well he's not been.
00:44:36Larson.
00:44:37On the pitch very long.
00:44:38Bruce Anderson.
00:44:39Got the equaliser.
00:44:40When the sides last met.
00:44:43Didn't look like the best of ball.
00:44:44So I'll tell you what.
00:44:45He made something of it.
00:44:47It's a really good twist and turn.
00:44:50A little bit bogged down.
00:44:52Thrilled to see that go past.
00:44:58Joe Thompson formally.
00:45:00The Queen's Park Parish.
00:45:02Larson.
00:45:04Larson lifts it.
00:45:05The United of players there.
00:45:06It's not the best header in the world.
00:45:09County leads it off.
00:45:10Thompson.
00:45:19Well he scored.
00:45:20Against Dundee in the Scottish Cup.
00:45:22Was looking to do a nice little double.
00:45:24Laid back to him.
00:45:29Well Neil McCann.
00:45:30Urging his players here.
00:45:33He's from Goodwin.
00:45:34Looks a tad concerned.
00:45:36Guilty to supply.
00:45:39Guilty in.
00:45:40There's the header from Brown.
00:45:41Goalkeeper with the save.
00:45:45Big moment in the match.
00:45:48Ethan Brown.
00:45:50Young Canadian.
00:45:51Never scored.
00:45:53For Kilmarnock.
00:45:54What a chance.
00:45:55Watch the run.
00:45:58Defender blocked off.
00:45:59Put straight at the goalkeeper.
00:46:04Well the one thing you do note.
00:46:06Killie aren't just slinging it forward.
00:46:08They are trying to build.
00:46:12Kiltie in.
00:46:13There's the header.
00:46:14There's the equaliser.
00:46:17It's been a horrible season for Marley Watkins.
00:46:20But that will put a smile on the face.
00:46:22Of everybody concerned at Killie.
00:46:28They pressed.
00:46:29They pressed.
00:46:30They pressed.
00:46:30And they pressed.
00:46:32And between the cross and the header.
00:46:35The equaliser came.
00:46:38Ball played in.
00:46:40Brilliant header.
00:46:42And Marley Watkins.
00:46:44And Marley Watkins.
00:46:44Makes it 1-1.
00:46:50Oh Marley Watkins.
00:46:53Eight goals last term.
00:46:55First goal this season.
00:46:58In it comes.
00:46:59It's the touch and the turn.
00:47:01Camano away.
00:47:04Dundee United with a chance.
00:47:06Thompson.
00:47:09Well one Thompson was coming through.
00:47:11The other Thompson was coming across.
00:47:13It's a red card for Jack Thompson.
00:47:20And it's Killie's sixth red card of the season.
00:47:25From that angle.
00:47:27You can understand.
00:47:29That he might have been going through on goal.
00:47:31John Beaton from his.
00:47:32Had absolutely no doubts.
00:47:41John Beaton looks at his watch.
00:47:44And Thompson plays it in.
00:47:45You'll be with the header away.
00:47:47And the full time whistle goes.
00:47:49On a day of absolute drama.
00:47:52At Tanadice.
00:47:54It's finished.
00:47:54Dundee United won.
00:47:56Kilmarnock won.
00:48:00The end result feels like a bit of a defeat.
00:48:03Given the circumstances in which we concede the equaliser.
00:48:07Also given the amount of good opportunities that we had during the game.
00:48:11You know.
00:48:11It should have been.
00:48:12A fairly comfortable and straightforward win for us.
00:48:16But.
00:48:16You know.
00:48:17Unfortunately.
00:48:17I'm standing here again.
00:48:19Talking about.
00:48:20Dropping points from a leading position.
00:48:22Not being able to see out the game.
00:48:24And.
00:48:24You know.
00:48:25That's.
00:48:25The main frustration.
00:48:26I think for sheer.
00:48:28Character.
00:48:29And grit and determination.
00:48:30And a bit of bravery thrown into the mix.
00:48:32They got a really good point.
00:48:34It shows what.
00:48:35This group.
00:48:36Are now.
00:48:37Feeling about themselves.
00:48:38That when we go down to ten men.
00:48:40They're still pouring forward in the latter stages.
00:48:42To try and get the winner.
00:48:44We have to.
00:48:44Try and sort the defensive issues out.
00:48:47I think there's only a couple of teams in the league.
00:48:49You know.
00:48:49The bottom two teams that have conceded more goals than we have this season.
00:48:52And that's.
00:48:53Not good enough.
00:48:54And not acceptable.
00:48:55Goal scoring hasn't been an issue.
00:48:57I think we're in the top six teams in the country for.
00:48:59For goals scored.
00:49:00So.
00:49:00It's back to the drawing board.
00:49:01As far as we're concerned defensively.
00:49:03I felt a couple of decisions have gone against us today.
00:49:05Which of course I'm allowed to disagree with.
00:49:08I thought we should have the penalty.
00:49:09With.
00:49:10With Finn going down.
00:49:12Curtis in the box.
00:49:12I think there's contact.
00:49:14The red card.
00:49:15For Jack.
00:49:16I think.
00:49:16Is so unlucky.
00:49:17Because I think Dom Thompson's round.
00:49:20And he's.
00:49:21He's probably the quickest man to pitch.
00:49:22I don't think that's denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
00:49:25Yes.
00:49:26It's a yellow card.
00:49:27And yes.
00:49:27It's cynical.
00:49:28But I don't think it's red.
00:49:29But.
00:49:29We had to suck decisions up sometimes.
00:49:31But what I'm so pleased about.
00:49:33Is that group of boys in there.
00:49:35They just don't know when they're beating it at the minute.
00:49:37It was never going to be a classic with the pitch.
00:49:39In that condition.
00:49:41And a point not really ideal for either team.
00:49:44Erm.
00:49:44I think safety C Neil McCann needs to get himself a winter jacket.
00:49:47What do you think?
00:49:47Looked soaked there with that one on.
00:49:49Yeah.
00:49:49He just had one of them little running jackets.
00:49:51I still had a summer jacket.
00:49:52Yeah.
00:49:52100%.
00:49:52United started well.
00:49:55Hit the bar.
00:49:56Got the penalty kick.
00:49:58Which.
00:49:58Obviously then.
00:49:59They went on to miss.
00:50:00Yeah.
00:50:00They did.
00:50:00Kamara.
00:50:01Who I thought was excellent in the first half.
00:50:03Started the game really well.
00:50:05He's unlucky with this.
00:50:06It probably just comes off his ankle bone to be honest with you.
00:50:09But.
00:50:10Very unlucky with that.
00:50:11But.
00:50:11I thought Dundee United were.
00:50:13I thought they were great in the first half.
00:50:14Very adventurous.
00:50:16Erm.
00:50:17I don't think anything could be done about the penalty.
00:50:19I don't think Brad Lyons actually sticks his leg out to try and catch him.
00:50:23He doesn't mean it.
00:50:24But.
00:50:25The contact's there isn't it.
00:50:26I think.
00:50:26You know when he's just trying to change direction.
00:50:28He stands on his foot.
00:50:29He can't have any arguments.
00:50:30But I've got sympathy with him.
00:50:32Yeah.
00:50:32Yeah.
00:50:33I mean.
00:50:34Sympathy yes.
00:50:34But I think it is a penalty kick.
00:50:35You watch the ball just move there.
00:50:37As Fata hit it.
00:50:39But I think.
00:50:40Had the ball still been moving.
00:50:41They might have been able to get it retaken.
00:50:44I'm not sure in the row.
00:50:45But the ball had stopped moving.
00:50:46It had stopped.
00:50:46I don't think you can use it as an excuse.
00:50:48I don't think it affected the penalty.
00:50:49It was a poor penalty.
00:50:50And then.
00:50:51When you think about what he does with the penalty.
00:50:53What he then goes on to do in the second half.
00:50:55From.
00:50:55You know.
00:50:56Five, ten yards further out.
00:50:57Is incredible.
00:50:59Well let's look at it.
00:51:00I mean.
00:51:01We've already seen two outstanding goals.
00:51:03Tonight on sports scene.
00:51:05And here's another.
00:51:07Yeah.
00:51:07I mean.
00:51:08The.
00:51:08Quick free kick.
00:51:09Erm.
00:51:10They're probably caught a little bit unaware.
00:51:11Come on up.
00:51:12And he's left 1v1.
00:51:13And when.
00:51:14When he gets 1v1 with defenders.
00:51:16He's got that trickery.
00:51:17He gets that little half yard inside.
00:51:19And.
00:51:19You talk about.
00:51:21You know.
00:51:21Today's had a.
00:51:22A goal of the month competition.
00:51:24And it's open.
00:51:24Hasn't it?
00:51:24That is.
00:51:25That's outrageous.
00:51:26I mean.
00:51:26The skill's excellent.
00:51:27And it does open up for him.
00:51:28But then you've still got to execute it.
00:51:30Don't you?
00:51:31Which.
00:51:31You had in the locker.
00:51:32That.
00:51:32Bend into the top corner.
00:51:34I maybe had it in the other corner.
00:51:35The back of cross.
00:51:36I.
00:51:36I didn't feel I could hit that one.
00:51:38But no.
00:51:38You can't take anything away from that.
00:51:39With being your bunions.
00:51:41Erm.
00:51:42Kelly.
00:51:43You pushed on.
00:51:4491 minutes.
00:51:44Marley Watkins.
00:51:46It's actually a superb header.
00:51:48But.
00:51:49Jim probably won't be happy with the defending.
00:51:51But.
00:51:51Kelly.
00:51:52As Neil said.
00:51:52Showing character.
00:51:54Yeah.
00:51:54Listen.
00:51:55You can question a couple of things with the defending.
00:51:57You know.
00:51:57You've got to get out and stop the cross.
00:51:59First and foremost.
00:52:00If you can't do that.
00:52:00I think.
00:52:01You look at the centre half.
00:52:02I'm.
00:52:02I'm not sure who it was there.
00:52:04He maybe drops a little too deep.
00:52:06And that then.
00:52:06Doesn't enable him to get out and make a challenge for the header.
00:52:09But.
00:52:09The ball's actually behind Watkins.
00:52:11So you're absolutely spot on to say it's a great header.
00:52:14And it was such an important.
00:52:16Erm.
00:52:17Goal.
00:52:18If you like.
00:52:18For Kilmarnock.
00:52:19Because.
00:52:21Erm.
00:52:21Any point at the stage that they're in.
00:52:23Just now.
00:52:24In the season.
00:52:25Is a very valuable point for them.
00:52:27It is yeah.
00:52:28And I think.
00:52:29Dundee United had their warnings.
00:52:30Earlier on.
00:52:31I agree with Neil McCann.
00:52:33In the sense that.
00:52:33They probably should have had a penalty.
00:52:35I didn't see much contact.
00:52:36Didn't see much contact.
00:52:39You felt as though in real time.
00:52:40As we were watching this downstairs this afternoon.
00:52:42You called Penn.
00:52:43And.
00:52:43You're sticking to your guns.
00:52:45Yeah.
00:52:45I mean.
00:52:45Obviously.
00:52:46There's no penalty for the handball.
00:52:47No.
00:52:47I think there was two handballs in that.
00:52:49But there's no penalty there.
00:52:50No.
00:52:50But I feel as if when he goes for the ball.
00:52:52No.
00:52:52He just goes over the top of it.
00:52:54And misses it.
00:52:55Erm.
00:52:56And I think Finlay Curtis agrees with it.
00:52:57It's a difficult one.
00:52:58To see.
00:52:59I mean.
00:53:00I certainly looked at it a right few times today.
00:53:03It's difficult to see if there is or not.
00:53:05A slight touch on the ball.
00:53:07Before.
00:53:08He gets to Curtis.
00:53:09But you feel as though there wasn't.
00:53:10No.
00:53:10I don't think.
00:53:11Listen.
00:53:12If he played.
00:53:12If he played any of the ball.
00:53:14It was very.
00:53:15It was minute wasn't it.
00:53:16But.
00:53:16It's one of them that's probably not going to get overturned.
00:53:19So.
00:53:19Just has to deal with it unfortunately.
00:53:21Neil.
00:53:22Clearly in disagreement.
00:53:23Well he agrees with you.
00:53:23He thinks it was a penalty.
00:53:25But.
00:53:25Obviously wasn't given.
00:53:26Erm.
00:53:27And another decision.
00:53:29Er.
00:53:29Er.
00:53:30It was Jack Thompson sent off.
00:53:31We've seen so many of these.
00:53:33In the last couple of weeks.
00:53:35It seems to be.
00:53:36Happening all the time.
00:53:37He felt as though.
00:53:38Thomson was going to get round and cover.
00:53:40In the.
00:53:41Middle of the goal.
00:53:42Do you agree?
00:53:43Yeah I mean.
00:53:44Thomson's probably one of the quickest players on the pitch.
00:53:46I.
00:53:46I believe he would have got there.
00:53:48But.
00:53:49If you look back over the last few weeks.
00:53:51You're right.
00:53:51You have had a few.
00:53:52And if it's consistency.
00:53:53You're looking for then.
00:53:54You know.
00:53:55Every other one.
00:53:55Well this is the thing.
00:53:56You know.
00:53:57If.
00:53:58VAR or referees.
00:53:59Had.
00:54:00Varying outcomes.
00:54:02On these situations.
00:54:03But they've all ended up.
00:54:05In.
00:54:05The red card.
00:54:06You know.
00:54:07For.
00:54:08Denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
00:54:10Whether you agree with it or not.
00:54:11The one thing you can't say.
00:54:13Is that the referees haven't been.
00:54:14Consistent with their opinions.
00:54:15That's it.
00:54:16And that's what everyone's asking for.
00:54:17Is consistency.
00:54:18But it still doesn't mean that.
00:54:19You know.
00:54:19It's a right decision.
00:54:20I agree with Neil.
00:54:22Erm.
00:54:22It's a yellow card.
00:54:23It's cynical.
00:54:24I don't think it was a red card.
00:54:26Okie dokie.
00:54:26To the late kick off.
00:54:28In Paisley.
00:54:28St Mirren against Motherwell.
00:54:32St Mirren have suffered.
00:54:34A couple of disappointing defeats.
00:54:35Back to back on the road.
00:54:37Tonight they're back at home.
00:54:38To take on one of the Premiership's form teams.
00:54:41Motherwell have only lost once.
00:54:43In their last ten.
00:54:44In the league.
00:54:45But they suffered a Scottish Cup exit.
00:54:47In midweek.
00:54:47The buddies require points.
00:54:49To move away.
00:54:49From the relegation playoff threat.
00:54:51While Motherwell want to move closer.
00:54:53To the top three.
00:54:56Steven Robinson makes two changes.
00:54:58From the 2-0 defeat.
00:54:59Away to Hibbs.
00:55:00Mark O'Hara's back in as a starter.
00:55:02After returning in that one last weekend.
00:55:04Idouwu also makes the starting eleven.
00:55:07With Fraser and Nlundalu.
00:55:09Dropping out.
00:55:10The club triggered a further year extension.
00:55:11For Killian Phillips yesterday.
00:55:13And he takes his place in midfield.
00:55:16Six changes for Motherwell from the 2-0 defeat.
00:55:18Against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup.
00:55:21Connolly drops out from the goal line.
00:55:22With Ward coming back in.
00:55:24Slattery, Welsh, Longelo, Saeed and Watt.
00:55:27All come in to the starting line-up.
00:55:29As they look to bounce back from another disappointing Cup exit.
00:55:33And Jens Bertolascu still has the semi-final League Cup defeat to St Mirren in his mind.
00:55:43McGinn turns.
00:55:45Left side.
00:55:47Saeed was the target.
00:55:49O'Hara will swipe away for St Mirren.
00:55:52There's an opportunity here for Young.
00:55:54Ward's off his line.
00:55:55What can Jake Young do here?
00:55:56Skips in.
00:55:57And goes for goal.
00:55:58That's a strong left hand from Ward.
00:56:02Motherwell.
00:56:04Looking a bit fragile there to start.
00:56:07It's very uncharacteristic this season.
00:56:13McGinn forward.
00:56:19That's dipped in.
00:56:20The touch.
00:56:20Oh, and that's just past the post from Mazwanisi.
00:56:25Oh, he raises the thumb.
00:56:28It's a delightful cross.
00:56:30He's just looking to set to guide it beyond Shamal George.
00:56:36And Jens Bertolascu watching on.
00:56:39Watch his players to stay true to who they are as a team.
00:56:42And bounce back from the Scottish Cup defeat.
00:56:47O'Donnell.
00:56:50It's an excellent pass for Langello.
00:56:54Slattery.
00:56:54At the end of the 1-2.
00:56:56Saeed spins.
00:56:57Oh, is that blocked?
00:56:58Mazwanisi strikes.
00:57:01Slattery.
00:57:02Motherwell can't break through this buddy Walt.
00:57:06Special guest in Paisley tonight.
00:57:09This is Alex Ferguson.
00:57:12Just plays for Saeed.
00:57:15Who looks up.
00:57:16Sharp delivery across.
00:57:18Watt jumps onto it.
00:57:22Priestman.
00:57:25Passes for Slattery.
00:57:27Motherwell look to threaten again.
00:57:29Just!
00:57:31How about that?
00:57:32From Elijah Just.
00:57:35Motherwell have an early lead.
00:57:38Motherwell have been applying the pressure.
00:57:41Edging further and further forward.
00:57:43And that one arrowed through the legs.
00:57:46Of the St Mirren defence.
00:57:48And it's St Mirren 0.
00:57:49Motherwell won!
00:57:50What can Steven Robinson's side do here?
00:57:54He's looked to navigate a way through.
00:57:56The claret in amber colours.
00:57:57It's well taken.
00:58:00Driven across!
00:58:02Young was there.
00:58:04And he knows that was a chance.
00:58:07It's brilliant play down that right side.
00:58:10It's just teased in.
00:58:11O'Donnell was trying to get back for Motherwell.
00:58:13As King puts in.
00:58:15O'Donnell.
00:58:17Forward to Just.
00:58:18There's space on the left side.
00:58:20Just charging through.
00:58:22Mazwinisi takes on his toes.
00:58:24George comes out.
00:58:25And the referee points to the spot.
00:58:28Motherwell.
00:58:30With an opportunity to make it two from the penalty spot.
00:58:36It starts here.
00:58:37And then O'Donnell just slides into the midfield.
00:58:40Just has all the space to move forward.
00:58:46George commits.
00:58:48Mazwinisi gets there first.
00:58:52VAR is checking for a possible offside.
00:58:57The lines are being drawn.
00:59:01But we await the official word.
00:59:04And it is confirmed as a penalty.
00:59:09And George.
00:59:13Make up for his error.
00:59:17It's Tawanda Mazwinisi.
00:59:20Five goals in his last six league games.
00:59:23None in his last two.
00:59:26Up steps.
00:59:28Mazwinisi.
00:59:31Strong penalty.
00:59:33It's 14 in the Premiership this season for Tawanda Mazwinisi.
00:59:38And he's made it 2-0 in the first half.
00:59:43In Paisley.
00:59:44With only a half hour on the clock.
00:59:50Another well moving again.
00:59:53Just the opening goalscorer.
00:59:56Has options.
00:59:57Uses Longelo.
00:59:59Drilled over.
01:00:00Drops for Mazwinisi.
01:00:03Wide and into the side netting.
01:00:07Again just controlling, commanding everything through the middle.
01:00:11And Longelo has played a few of those to the back of the box.
01:00:14Mazwinisi is looking to find the top right corner.
01:00:18But just can't tuck it on the other side of the post.
01:00:24A scrap for possession.
01:00:25Mullowell come out on top with Slattery.
01:00:30And he's feeling a sore one there as Gogic is shown the red card.
01:00:35It goes from bad to worse for St Mirren.
01:00:38And this evening's task just become so much more difficult for the buddies.
01:00:46It's the left foot of Gogic stepping across.
01:00:50Slattery moves away with the ball here.
01:00:52Watch his left foot.
01:00:55Gogic showing the red card for that challenge.
01:01:00And the referee's being directed towards the monitor for another look.
01:01:05And Alex Gogic hopes that's enough to change Callum Scott's mind.
01:01:10As the left foot of Gogic comes in, it scrapes down the sock of Slattery.
01:01:17And now the referee back onto the pitch after another view.
01:01:27And he summons Alex Gogic over.
01:01:31He'll be happy to comply as the decision is changed to a yellow card.
01:01:42Back is stakes.
01:01:44Can't get the ball out of his feet.
01:01:45This is just...
01:01:46This could be four on three for Mullowell.
01:01:49Can they get it right?
01:01:50Saeed strikes!
01:01:54Saeed scores again for Mullowell.
01:01:58It is punishing!
01:02:00From Jens Bertolasco's side in Paisley.
01:02:07We'll see if they can just get it wrong in the middle.
01:02:10And again Mullowell may have got a little bit lucky.
01:02:13But it's that instinct from Saeed to just smash the ball towards goal.
01:02:19It's difficult for George to get a handle of.
01:02:29Mandron's header, calmly collected by Ward.
01:02:33And it's Bertolasco who is still in conversation.
01:02:37He's complimented how hard Saeed to work as a team.
01:02:40Said to be difficult to play against.
01:02:41So he won't rest even though the scoreline shows 3-0 to his team.
01:02:49There's an issue for Callum Slattery.
01:02:53We'll see what happened.
01:02:56A lot of pulling on the left of your picture.
01:03:00Just throws the hand down in Slattery's face.
01:03:04It's hard to tell how much contact there was.
01:03:08And the red card has been shown to Richard King.
01:03:13It's the second time red has flashed in this match.
01:03:16The first was overturned.
01:03:18The Mullowell support have been having a party in that stand tonight.
01:03:26What moves for Priestman.
01:03:29Trying to re-angle the attack.
01:03:32This is Longello.
01:03:34Touched forward.
01:03:37Just skips his way through.
01:03:42Motherwell tying St Mirren up here.
01:03:45The return.
01:03:46Longello!
01:03:49Flag raised.
01:03:51It won't count.
01:03:53Offside the decision from the assistant.
01:03:56St Mirren struggling to keep track of that movement again.
01:04:00Now there's a player on the far side.
01:04:04There's a player on the far side.
01:04:06Of the St Mirren defence.
01:04:10It may bring a bit of doubt into that decision.
01:04:13VAR is checking.
01:04:16Now the captain's being spoken to.
01:04:20And the goal is awarded.
01:04:26Longello is back on the score sheet.
01:04:29His fifth league goal of the season.
01:04:32A bullet from Longello.
01:04:41St Mirren look for something.
01:04:45Mandron steals the cutback.
01:04:47The strike blocked by Longello.
01:04:51And Motherwell just standing firm in the way.
01:04:54Ward with the big save.
01:04:57On the defensive side of the team.
01:05:00Can congratulate each other on that one.
01:05:04Wells desperately trying to get in front of Calvin.
01:05:07Strong fingertips there from Ward.
01:05:12Still just under half an hour to go.
01:05:14The header down from Gogic.
01:05:17Taken by Ward.
01:05:19That was a chance for St Mirren to grab something back.
01:05:25Priestman now on the ball.
01:05:28Bit wide for Sparrow.
01:05:29Lifted over.
01:05:30Björgolfsson!
01:05:33And it's five.
01:05:36And it's a first goal for Eitor Björgolfsson in Motherwell colours.
01:05:43It just gets better and better for Motherwell and Björgolfsson.
01:05:49This is quite the statement from the Steelmen.
01:05:52Excellent technique.
01:05:54Smashes the ball into the ground.
01:05:56It loops over the goalkeeper.
01:05:58And on his fifth Premiership appearance for Motherwell.
01:06:01Eitor Björgolfsson has his first goal in Clareton Amber.
01:06:06St Mirren 0.
01:06:07Motherwell 5.
01:06:11Full time.
01:06:13Well, there were some who still didn't believe they were in the Premiership title hunt.
01:06:19It has been magical from Motherwell tonight.
01:06:24The top flight's biggest away win this campaign.
01:06:28And it's quite the statement from the Steelmen.
01:06:31And all with the swagger of a contender.
01:06:34It finishes in Paisley.
01:06:38Ten-man St Mirren 0.
01:06:41Motherwell 5.
01:06:42To score five goals at St Mirren and keep a clean sheet, that takes some doing.
01:06:48Have you guys just set a new bar for Motherwell this season?
01:06:52Yeah.
01:06:54So far what we have performed is not something you've seen from a Motherwell team in a very long time.
01:07:01And obviously today everything kind of joins together and it becomes a very effective game from our point of view.
01:07:13Which is extremely important.
01:07:14We struggled with that in the beginning.
01:07:16The first time we played St Mirren out here, we weren't as effective.
01:07:19It was a more open game that could have gone both ways with not a lot of big goal chances.
01:07:24And I think we've grown a lot since then.
01:07:26Yeah, it's a very tough one to take.
01:07:28A long, long night.
01:07:30I have to take full responsibility for it.
01:07:32We changed our back four tonight to try and spark us, to try and give us a little bit of
01:07:36energy.
01:07:37Get more creative players in the team.
01:07:39But it looked like a step too far.
01:07:41You know, the goals change games.
01:07:45Four of the goals are mistakes.
01:07:47Individual errors.
01:07:48So, obviously, if you're making those kind of mistakes, you're going to get punished against an excellent Motherwell side.
01:07:54That they were.
01:07:55An absolutely exquisite Motherwell performance.
01:07:58St Mirren very much sub-standard tonight, Ross.
01:08:00Let's look at the first three Motherwell goals.
01:08:04So slick.
01:08:05So impressive.
01:08:06Yeah, I mean, that's the story of the season.
01:08:08Probably slow to get going in the season.
01:08:10But once they get into a rhythm, I mean, it just looks as if there's no stopping them now.
01:08:15The way they move the ball.
01:08:16Elijah Jurst.
01:08:17Elliott Watt.
01:08:18Two incredible players having great seasons.
01:08:20They are.
01:08:21But they just look like they're going from strength to strength.
01:08:24They do.
01:08:24I mean, for me, it's the confidence that they show.
01:08:28And it's a great example here.
01:08:31Yeah, I mean, St Mirren probably in the semi-final Cup got their, you know, got their win through the
01:08:36press being whipped.
01:08:38But they're just a little bit late here.
01:08:39And then as soon as Motherwell break that press, then they're in real bother.
01:08:43Real, real bother.
01:08:44You see it there.
01:08:45Five guys.
01:08:46Elijah Jurst, the other side of him.
01:08:47It's not what you want to happen.
01:08:49But when he gets the ball, it's decision making as well.
01:08:53And he's picked the right pass there for Mazwanisi.
01:08:55And unfortunately for St Mirren, the keepers clattered him.
01:08:58Yeah, I don't think he needs to come out here, Shamal George, does he?
01:09:02This is probably, most definitely, one of the errors that Steven Robinson was talking about in his post-match interview.
01:09:08But again, another error from St Mirren.
01:09:11Backus getting caught in the ball.
01:09:12And Motherwell punish you.
01:09:13That's what they do.
01:09:14Yeah, Backus, you know, he's not played in a while.
01:09:16So maybe a little bit of ring rust.
01:09:18But regardless of what we say here, the keepers, he's got to save it, hasn't he?
01:09:23There's no power on it.
01:09:24Yes, there's a deflection, but...
01:09:25It's a very strange one, isn't it?
01:09:27And he's been good this season, the Shamal George.
01:09:29But a disappointing night.
01:09:31I don't think any St Mirren player this evening could probably come away with pass marks.
01:09:35It was an incredibly disappointing performance.
01:09:37Two sending offs.
01:09:39Callum Scott, the referee, tonight.
01:09:41The first one for Gog.
01:09:42It's very quick to get the card out.
01:09:45What do you think of this one?
01:09:48I think he gets away with it because he comes down his leg.
01:09:52When he catches him on the top of the sock, I think if he follows through with that, he could
01:09:55have hurt him.
01:09:56But it kind of slides down his leg a little bit.
01:09:58I think the referees eventually came to the right decision.
01:10:02Well, VAR intervened.
01:10:03And for me, I think VAR got that right in terms of downgrading it.
01:10:07Talk to me about this.
01:10:08Well, if you said they got it right, I mean, this is just a shambles.
01:10:11Honestly, I mean, the referee, to be fair to the referee, he's obviously getting told by probably the near side
01:10:17linesman that it's a red card.
01:10:19But how VAR haven't overturned that?
01:10:22I mean, he's nowhere near his face.
01:10:24And to be honest with you, if I'm the referee and I get sent to the monitor to watch that,
01:10:28I'm booking the mother.
01:10:30They didn't give him the option, I don't think. I mean, you know, we're watching it.
01:10:33We are completely perplexed and mystified at what's happened there.
01:10:37I don't think Slattery comes out with a great deal of credit there for the way that he went down
01:10:43on the ground.
01:10:43And let's be honest, it's never in a million years a sending off.
01:10:47No, it's probably, certainly this season anyway, it's probably the worst decision that I've seen.
01:10:52The fact that they haven't, not even sent them to the monitor, just overturned it straight away.
01:10:58Yeah, they've got to count themselves hard done by there.
01:11:02Yeah, Motherwell, well, they weren't finished. Longello and Bjorg Golfs and putting some shine on it for Motherwell.
01:11:10And, you know, to be honest, it was no more than or no less than they deserved.
01:11:14They were absolutely magnificent tonight.
01:11:16Yeah, watching the game, I think Longello deserved this first half.
01:11:21Great game he had actually, yeah.
01:11:22Yeah, him and O'Donnell on the other side, I thought the two of them were fantastic.
01:11:25Real threats for Motherwell.
01:11:27So this is just rewards again.
01:11:29You could possibly say could the keeper do a little bit better, but in the end, it's just one of
01:11:34them days.
01:11:35And this one here is a great finish, Tomo.
01:11:36It was a good finish.
01:11:37I mean, you look at the quality we've seen tonight from Motherwell.
01:11:40Can they finish higher than fourth?
01:11:43I'm going to say I believe they will finish higher than fourth.
01:11:46Can they win the title?
01:11:47I'm not sure.
01:11:48I think there's maybe too many teams ahead.
01:11:49You think that they'll...
01:11:50I don't think they'll finish fourth.
01:11:51You think they'll get into the top three though?
01:11:52I do, yeah, I do.
01:11:53I mean, it's difficult to see teams beating them in that type of form, isn't it?
01:11:57I mean, it's hard enough to score against them, never mind to beat them.
01:12:01The form that they're on, the confidence that that will generate.
01:12:05Especially when you go into the split, they'll relish that.
01:12:07They will indeed.
01:12:08And for St Myrman it's a massive concern.
01:12:10One win in a living games in the performance.
