Church, government, private sector unite to boost transparency in infrastructure projects
The Catholic church, government, and private sector on Monday joined forces to strengthen infrastructure governance, enhance transparency and accountability, and reinforce public confidence in infrastructure through people’s participation. The partnership includes Caritas Philippines, the Department of Public Works and Highways, Mayors for Good Governance, and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
During the signing of the Implementing Rules and Regulations and Memorandum of Cooperation held at Taguig City, Caritas Philippines President Bishop Gerardo Alminaza stressed the need for a whole-of-society approach in combatting corruption in infrastructure projects.
“This historic moment (is) where we really practice what Pope Francis, as a legacy, led the church to do: the synodal journey. Really enlarging the space of our tent, and trying to really respond to the situation with the whole of society, everybody involved,” Alminaza said.
With 86 dioceses nationwide, Caritas Philippines will serve as a "moral and vigilant force" capable of overseeing infrastructure projects and reporting irregularities.
