00:00Violence has erupted throughout Mexico after the death of one of the world's most wanted
00:05cartel leaders.
00:06Known as El Mencho, the boss from the Jalisco new generation cartel was killed by security
00:11forces with the help of US intelligence.
00:14Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes was wounded in the operation in Tapalpa on Sunday and died
00:19on the way to Mexico City.
00:20In retaliation, cartel members blocked roads and vehicles and buildings were set alight.
00:27Now we're scared, we only go out when it's necessary.
00:32It's good that they're putting an end to these organizations, but there's fear because of
00:37the situations that are happening now.
00:39The country's president said they were working for peace and justice across Mexico.
00:44The Ministry of National Defense reported the operation carried out by federal forces, which
00:50resulted in various blockades and other reactions.
00:53There is absolute coordination with the governments of all states.
00:57We must stay informed and calm.
00:59She said that in most other areas of Mexico life was normal, but the state of El Mencho
01:04has cancelled schools and advised residents to stay indoors.
01:08El Mencho had a $15 million US bounty on his head and was accused of trafficking drugs including
01:14cocaine and fentanyl into the US.
01:16His organization, known as CJNG, began in 2009 and is one of the fastest growing criminal
01:23groups in Mexico.
01:24The Trump administration designated them a terrorist organization.
01:27This was one of the most significant actions undertaken in the history of drug trafficking because
01:38we're talking about someone that is almost at the same level as Chapo Guzman and El Mayo
01:47Zambada.
01:48The cartel leader's death has been welcomed by the White House, which has been piling the
01:53pressure on the Mexican government to tackle drug trafficking across the southern border.
01:57Most of them do meanate children.
