00:26The Rwandan government and military firmly denied claims that they deployed troops to

00:31Mozambique's capital.

00:33Last weekend, protests erupted in Maputo as opposition supporters contested the October

00:399 election results, which gave victory to the ruling Frelimo party.

00:44These protests were met with violent crackdowns by law enforcement.

00:48In a video, opposition leader Venetio Mondlane alleged that Rwandan forces stationed in Cabo

00:53Delgado in northern Mozambique were assisting local security forces in Maputo.

00:59Rwanda's government dismissed the allegations as baseless, insisting that its troops remain

01:05in Cabo Delgado, 2,500km away, on a counter-terrorism mission fighting a jihadist insurgency since

01:132021.

01:15The European Union, which funds this Rwandan-led mission, also confirmed there is no evidence

01:21of Rwandan troops in the capital.

01:23Brussels is set to release an additional 20 million euros in the coming weeks to support

01:27the mission.
