A warning this story contains graphic details. A former colleague of Alan Jones has been grilled under cross examination about why he sent at-times flirtatious text messages to the veteran broadcaster. 'Complainant C' has accused Mr Jones of kissing and touching him but says he communicated with him in certain ways because he had been groomed by the radio host for at least a decade.

00:02An extraordinarily powerful broadcaster and alleged groomer.
00:07That's how a former colleague described Alan Jones in court today.
00:11Complainant C alleges he was in his early 20s when the talkback host kissed and touched him without consent multiple
00:18times,
00:19in a lift as well as at work and in a car in 2008.
00:24Today he was defending flirtatious messages he sent Mr Jones years later.
00:30The trial heard C sent the broadcaster a message in 2015 saying,
00:34Listening to your voice at work, missing you. Lots of love always. P.S. I'm a bachelor again.
00:40Followed by a reference to his penis. Mr Jones replied, I need to see.
00:46The court heard C agreed to drive Mr Jones home from work in 2018,
00:51later responding to a text from the radio host who asked for a hug.
00:55Loved spending time with you today. Unexpected. Would love to have hugged you too.
01:01Followed by a winking face, an eggplant emoji, which he said referred to an explicit comment Mr Jones made in
01:08the car.
01:09C said these messages are consistent with someone who had been groomed for 10 years,
01:15to think that was an acceptable way to talk to him.
01:18The complainant rejected more than 20 separate suggestions from the defence that he fabricated his accusations.
01:25He also dismissed a claim from Mr Jones' barrister that he held the power over the broadcaster to expose his
01:33intimate messages.
01:34Did you groom your former colleague, Mr Jones?
01:36C told the court he reluctantly invited Mr Jones to his wedding and accepted his $2,000 gift.
01:43You are the Chief of Navy Accountants.
