00:12The suitcase was discovered on Sunday by two members of the public who were driving along a road in the
00:17remote town of Olin, about 200 kilometers southwest of Sydney.
00:22After opening the suitcase, they found what appeared to be human remains and alerted authorities, prompting police to establish a
00:29crime scene.
00:30New South Wales Police Superintendent Linda Bradbury said officers initially treated the discovery as suspected human remains and avoided disturbing
00:39the contents while at the scene, particularly due to the poor weather conditions.
00:43She said the item looked remarkably similar to human remains, leading police to initially believe a suspicious death may have
00:51occurred.
00:51But we can confirm that the remains found at Olin Ford Road, Olin yesterday, are now identified as not being
01:01human.
01:02So some good news here, that we don't have a suspicious death of a human on our hands.
01:07They were mistaken for a human eventually, originally, so they are very realistic in the terms of looking like human
01:18remains, but we've confirmed by other means that they are not.
01:23Forensic examinations later established that the item was a realistic doll dressed in clothing, complete with hair and a nose
01:30piercing.
01:30The doll also had markings resembling bruises and grazes, adding to the initial impression that it was a human body.
01:38Police have since closed the homicide investigation after confirming that no human remains were involved.
