ABC Radio Perth listeners are set for a once-in-a-generation upgrade from Monday. The move will also reshuffle the dial for several of Perth’s community broadcasters, as the ABC makes the switch to 102.5FM.

00:13Kalamunda Community Radio first hit the airwaves in the 1990s.
00:18Its original studio, an old police station.
00:21The studios themselves were in the cells and they had a big transmission mask just outside.
00:27The building got demolished and we were able to move to a more pleasant setting here in Goosbury Hill.
00:3730 presenters at KCR bringing rock, soul and classical music to the hills.
00:43Entirely run by volunteers, we don't have any paid staff.
00:46There's a committee of management made up almost entirely of the presenters themselves, seven or eight of us.

00:57On February 23, ABC Radio Perth will switch from AM to FM.
01:02It's part of changes to WA's radio licence area plans as decided by the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
01:10We've always known that AM doesn't serve Perth audiences well because of the local conditions.
01:16So when the opportunity finally came up to move to FM, we were really pleased to be able to act
01:20on it.
01:21It means that we can now give audiences the quality and reliability they deserve.
01:26As ABC Radio Perth makes the move to 102.5 FM, other stations are shifting too.
