02:17Very nice to see you!
02:19Nice to see you!
02:19It looks slightly like a showbiz funeral, but...
02:22Sorry!
02:23Did wardrobe dress us?
02:25I'm sorry!
02:26No, I thought my pop star might bust out of colour, but no, no.
02:30I'm always in mourning.
02:31Oh, OK!
02:33And before we get started on everything we're talking about, I must say to Benicio Del Toro,
02:38Happy Birthday!
02:39Is it Feliz CumpleaƱos?
02:41CumpleaƱos, yes.
02:42CumpleaƱos!
02:42Feliz CumpleaƱos!
02:43Thank you!
02:43Yeah, it's your actual birthday today!
02:45Wow!
02:47It's amazing!
02:49It's amazing!
02:50Thank my mum!
02:51Thank my mum!
02:52Thank my mum!
02:53I'm thanking your mother!
02:54That was very good of her!
02:55Thank my mum, yeah!
02:56What do you say, Gordon, you're the same age?
02:57I think we're the same age.
02:58Yeah.
02:59Yes!
03:00Snap!
03:01Snap!
03:02Snap!
03:02That's my own business!
03:03Come on!
03:04Thanks, Gordon, test your eyes!
03:0850!
03:1050!
03:1150!
03:1260!
03:13You're great in 59!
03:14Come on!
03:15Seriously!
03:15Amazing!
03:16Are you going out afterwards?
03:18Are you having a little celebration?
03:20Yeah!
03:21Yeah!
03:22OK!
03:23Yes!
03:24Yes!
03:24I will!
03:25But I'm a little jet-lagged!
03:27I just got in from Los Angeles, California, so I'm a little like...
03:30Oh, OK!
03:32So I might go out and not go out.
03:34Yeah!
03:35Do you normally go big on a birthday?
03:37No!
03:38OK!
03:38So this is OK.
03:40This is OK.
03:40This is OK.
03:40You don't mind.
03:41This is as big as he's gotten.
03:43And a lot of well-wishers.
03:44Yeah.
03:44Well, happy birthday to you.
03:46We've got lots of great stuff to talk about tonight, so we're going to get started with
03:49Benicio Del Toro.
03:50He is part of this extraordinary ensemble cast in Paul Thomas Anderson's epic One Battle
03:55After Another.
03:56You can still see it in selected cinemas and, of course, it's available to rent or buy now.
04:02And the movie's been out for a while, but if people have not seen it, tell us about One
04:07Battle After Another.
04:09It's a roller coaster.
04:10It really is.
04:11It's an emotional roller coaster.
04:13I think that it's a real...
04:16Help me out.
04:17OK.
04:18Well, it's...
04:19Somebody help me.
04:20It's...
04:20I know you've talked about it so, so much.
04:23It's a...
04:23Surprisingly, it's a comedy.
04:26Because it's a drama and you've...
04:28You're...
04:28I'm going to say, well done, Jennifer.
04:30Yeah, no, I get it.
04:31I know you're very good.
04:32I'll be your wingman.
04:32And it's a father-daughter relationship, really.
04:34It's a father-daughter relationship.
04:35Yes.
04:35And you're on the edge of your seat, but then all of a sudden, Benicio shows up and you're
04:41dying laughing, cracking up.
04:43He's the showman of the century.
04:45I mean, right?
04:47Thank you, Jennifer.
04:47I'm an Academy.
04:49You should do mine as well.
04:50I will do.
04:51I will do.
04:51I've got you.
04:52Yeah.
04:53Yeah, I've got you.
04:54But it's a great ride and I...
04:57It's just one incredible performance.
04:58It's directed by one of the great filmmakers right now.
05:01One of the great filmmakers ever.
05:02Yeah.
05:03Paul Thomas Anderson.
05:04It's a one great performance actor.
05:05Yes.
05:09Everyone should have a wingman.
05:13I'm going to force Benicio to say something about this film.
05:16OK, yeah.
05:17So, Paul Thomas Anderson, who you've worked with before, like, he really wanted you for this part.
05:21Like, he waited.
05:22Yeah.
05:27I'm ready to go.
05:29Give me the nod.
05:30Yes.
05:31But that's unusual, isn't it?
05:33Like, they started filming and then there was a big pause.
05:36Yes.
05:40I'm going to come up with a question.
05:42I'm going to come up with one.
05:44You're going to chat.
05:45This is what happened.
05:47This is what happened.
05:48This is what happened.
05:49We were planning to do the film after I was going to do another film called The Phoenician Scheme.
05:54Oh, yeah.
05:54Directed by Wes Anderson.
05:55Yeah.
05:57And there was a strike.
05:59So, everything got tossed in the air.
06:02Yeah.
06:02Tussed up.
06:03And I just...
06:05So, they, you know, I said to Paul, I can't do it first.
06:09You know?
06:10And then they decided and they waited.
06:12So, but, you know, I'm very grateful for Leo and Sean Penn and Paul because they sat there and waited.
06:21You know?
06:21Well, we've got a clip.
06:22You can watch this now.
06:24Sit back.
06:25Enjoy.
06:26Relax.
06:26This is you as a sensei helping Bob, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, make his escape.
06:39I've watched that clip a few times now.
06:41So, how did the rug do...
06:43What is that?
06:44Is there a little string on it?
06:45I don't know.
06:47Because if you notice, I never saw it.
06:49You're under.
06:50Yeah.
06:50I didn't know.
06:51It's like, wait, it's like a little bit Charlie Chaplin-esque or something like that?
06:55It's a beautiful detail.
06:56A little Benny Hill.
06:57Yes.
06:58Now, Charlie, you are a big film fan.
07:00And now, Letterboxd, would I say you were obsessed by Letterboxd?
07:05Yeah.
07:05That would be completely accurate.
07:08And you don't just read it, you write on Letterboxd.
07:10Yeah.
07:10I log the films, I write about some of them.
07:14Yeah.
07:15Yeah.
07:15And one of them is one battle after another.
07:18Correct.
07:18Yeah.
07:19Yeah.
07:19Now, I guess when you wrote that review, you didn't know you'd be sitting on this couch.
07:24No.
07:25And now I'm killing myself wanting to know what I wrote.
07:29Well, let me tell you.
07:30Let me tell you.
07:32Big, long review.
07:34Anyway, so, in general, Tiana and Chase were on fire.
07:38Leo's timing kills me, he is so damn funny.
07:40And I think I'm beginning to realise that I'm just obsessed with Benicio.
07:46Love that.
07:47There you go, yeah.
07:48How funny.
07:51Oh, yeah, yeah, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
07:56Now, do you do other reviews?
07:57Do you do, like, TripAdvisor and things?
08:00Yeah, I like to spread myself across all the apps, you know.
08:04But wait, you had a honeymoon?
08:06What?
08:06Didn't it say there I wasn't watching films because of the honeymoon?
08:10Yes.
08:11Wait, you said that.
08:12You really read it all.
08:13You didn't read the whole thing real quick.
08:15That's...
08:15You're on it, Jennifer.
08:17I am ready for this show.
08:20Miss Markle.
08:21Yeah.
08:21Honeymoon.
08:23That's true.
08:24That's true.
08:24Well, congratulations.
08:26And, Gordon, do you read, like, because back in the day when you started...
08:33What?
08:34No, because back in the day, like, it was just restaurant reviewers,
08:37that was the only reviews you got.
08:38Now, anybody with a phone can write a review.
08:42No, but you're about to drop me the shit big time.
08:44Oh, am I?
08:45Because you know I kicked out Joan Collins by accident.
08:47Yes.
08:48Well, not quite by accident.
08:49Well, she was with a critic that absolutely panned the restaurant prior
08:54and they turned back up literally a few months later.
08:56And I said to this critic, thanks but no thanks, but Joan was his guest
09:02and so she was furious.
09:03But didn't you leave them sitting there for quite a long time before you told them?
09:06Well, they refused to go.
09:08Oh!
09:08So I just asked my maitredi to strip the table down to the bare wood.
09:13I did apologise to Joan after it, OK?
09:16A big, big hiccup.
09:17But still to this day, she's never forgiven me.
09:19Oh, really?
09:20No, she's fine.
09:20Oh, yeah, no.
09:21Yeah.
09:23OK.
09:23It's hard though, isn't it, when you're sort of under that kind of criticism,
09:26when you're being judged by individuals that are less about food than you
09:28and the same in the movies and albums, etc.
09:31So now, today, in the restaurants, everyone's got a phone, everyone's a critic
09:34and these things go viral, like, you know, in seconds.
09:37Yeah.
09:38And it's funny, you know, people love films.
09:41And in this country, obviously, the Bond franchise is huge.
09:45And Benicio Del Toro.
09:46It wasn't your first movie, was it?
09:48My second movie.
09:49Your second movie.
09:50You were in Licence to Kill with Timothy Dalton.
09:53There you are.
09:56Good noise, everyone.
09:59Oh!
10:00It's a colour.
10:01He was semi.
10:02Yeah.
10:02He was young once upon a time.
10:04But you, but to play it, you were kind of a henchman, and you had to audition for
10:08the big producer, Cubby Broccoli.
10:10Cubby Broccoli, the legend, yeah.
10:12Yeah.
10:12And, well, I remember going to the audition and I went into his office,
10:18a big desk, he had a big buckle.
10:20I remember that.
10:21And he asked me how tall I was and how much I weigh.
10:25Wow.
10:26And I gave him my answer and he went...
10:31And he fell asleep.
10:33For real?
10:34Yeah.
10:35Wow.
10:36Did you wait for him to wake up?
10:38Well, no, he woke up in a second and said, yeah, okay.
10:41Okay.
10:41You've got it.
10:42Yeah.
10:44Did he think you'd done an audition?
10:46And he was just wondering his embarrassment.
10:48No, no.
10:48I had done several auditions.
10:49Oh, okay.
10:50But this was the first time to go meet him.
10:52Yeah, yeah.
10:52But just going back to the film, Benicio, one battle after another, one of the defining
10:56things about it is that there's a lot of real people in it, not actors.
11:00Particularly people with jobs tend to be the real people, if you know what I mean.
11:06Yeah.
11:06For example, when I get arrested at the end, at the end of my story, the two people that
11:11arrested me were actual police officers.
11:15Okay.
11:15So, you know.
11:16Well, actually, we've got that clip, and people love this scene.
11:19People who've seen the movie just love this scene where you get arrested by these real
11:23police officers.
11:24Let's have a look at it.
11:25Amazing.
11:26It's so good.
11:30And that wasn't completely scripted.
11:35It wasn't completely scripted.
11:36You know, I was talking to Paul, the director, a few days ago, and he was saying, do you
11:41remember, because it was, it's kind of strange how you do a movie, and then suddenly it clicks.
11:48You know?
11:48It's just, you have no control over that, and suddenly it clicked, and it just goes viral
11:54now.
11:54It's in people's phones, and they have clips, and so he asked me, do you remember saying
12:00when you said that line, and I said it maybe two or three times, few small beers, but I do
12:08remember telling myself that I didn't want to lie to the police officers.
12:13I don't remember really saying the line, but I do remember saying to myself, I'm not
12:18going to lie.
12:18Were you actually drunk?
12:20No.
12:20OK.
12:21Just checking.
12:22And Oscars, is it, I think you got 13 nominations at the Oscars?
12:26Wow.
12:27I didn't count.
12:28Yeah, people are going to say it.
12:30And I didn't verify it, but I'll take it.
12:33Yeah.
12:33Yeah.
12:34Yeah.
12:35Yeah.
12:36Second most nominated at the Oscars, you are the most nominated movie at the
12:39BAFTAs.
12:40What's it, 14 nominations?
12:42A bunch.
12:43Yeah, it's a lot.
12:44Yeah.
12:45And that's this weekend, isn't it?
12:46Yeah.
12:47It's, I think the director's nominated, Leo's nominated, Tiana Taylor, Chase
12:53Infinity.
12:54Yeah.
12:55Most of it is Sean Penn.
12:56I'm nominated for that movie.
12:57Are you?
12:57No.
12:59I just found out.
13:00Dimples, yes.
13:00And I think Best Supporting Actor on the night, that's up early, isn't it?
13:05Is it?
13:05I think so.
13:06That's good.
13:06I know it's good.
13:07It's very good.
13:08Yeah.
13:08Get it over with.
13:09Get it out of the way.
13:10Yeah.
13:11Good luck on Sunday at the BAFTAs.
13:13Good luck to everyone at the Oscars.
13:16And if you haven't seen one battle after another, you can.
13:19It's available to stream now.
13:20Very good.
13:20All right.
13:27Now, Jennifer Garner isn't just here to tell us about one battle after another.
13:32No.
13:33She's in something.
13:34She is.
13:35She's in the second season of her hit thriller, The Last Thing He Told Me.
13:39Eight episodes available weekly starting today on Apple TV.
13:43And before we talk about it, here's a taste.
13:46It's funny.
13:48I know.
13:50And so this is based on the novels by Laura Daves and you play Hannah Hall.
13:57Mm-hmm.
13:58And that first season ended on this big cliffhanger.
14:00We didn't know what was going on.
14:02So what's happening to Hannah Hall now?
14:04Well, the first season is really about this woman, Hannah Hall, whose husband disappears
14:11and leaves her with her disgruntled teenager stepdaughter.
14:14Teenage stepdaughter.
14:15And the two of them have to figure out where did he go, why, and in the process they realise,
14:20oh my gosh, we're in a lot of danger.
14:22At the end of the first season, Hannah makes a deal that assures their safety.
14:28You have a five year time cut and you don't know what's happened in those five years.
14:33And suddenly he reappears for just a moment and then, boom, the first season ends.
14:38The second season begins at that, there's an overlap of that same scene where he appears.
14:43And then you back up and find out what she's been doing during that time,
14:47which is she's been getting ready for the inevitable return of the danger that they were in.
14:53And the story takes you to France, where we discover that Hannah can speak French.
15:01Yes.
15:01Now, did Jennifer Garner know that Hannah could speak French?
15:04No, I didn't and I don't speak French at all.
15:07And when I was starting to learn, my kids speak French.
15:10And so, I was saying my first line that I learned, which was,
15:15Je suis teneuse-bois. J'ai ƩtudiƩ avec Gilles GƩrard Ơ Puy-Saint-Martin.
15:23Ah.
15:24OK.
15:26Is that OK?
15:27They laughed so much when I was learning this.
15:30And so, I used my daughter's, instead of like a proper Hollywood French tutor,
15:34I used my daughter's French teacher from school, Dr. Reinholz.
15:38Bonjour, Dr. Reinholz.
15:42And he was my tutor.
15:44But now, you've been doing press in France.
15:46I have been doing press with the French press and not one of them has mentioned how much French I
15:53speak.
15:54And it's giving me a complex.
15:56So, if you guys want to write in one of the reviews, would you please?
16:00And say, wow, her French is just...
16:02Charlie's on it.
16:03Charlie's on it.
16:04Thank you very much.
16:06Magnifique, c'est magnifique.
16:08And here's the thing.
16:09Jennifer, here you are back on episodic television, where you got your big break, Alias.
16:14And that show, it must have been so intense, because you had to learn so...
16:19Like, every episode, you were doing something new.
16:22Yes, every episode. It was very, it was very stunt heavy.
16:25There was a...
16:26Every Sunday, I would have, they would say,
16:28Okay, hi, I'm here, I'm your Swedish tutor.
16:31Hi, I'm here, I'm your Japanese tutor.
16:33And then the fight team would come over.
16:35And we would fight in the backyard, and they would teach me that week's fights.
16:40And then I would go and do them.
16:42But it was, yeah, it was wild.
16:43It was like, back before they really cared that you were doing a huge stunt.
16:48I heard...
16:50Wow.
16:50Well, right there.
16:51There you have it.
16:54Congratulations, me.
17:00This is what you show.
17:02That's like the coolest thing ever.
17:04Yes.
17:04I was rushing there, just for the record.
17:06Wow.
17:06Okay.
17:07What is the stunt?
17:07What is that stunt?
17:09It's a high kick.
17:10Yeah.
17:10It's falling off a sideboard.
17:12Yeah.
17:13But I heard you talking in an interview where Angelina Jolie had done some movie and they were making a
17:18big fuss.
17:18Do you know this story?
17:19Yes.
17:20There's a building in downtown Los Angeles that we used for a lot of stunts for some reason.
17:25And I was constantly jumping off this building with a descender, you know.
17:29And I'm scared of that.
17:31But if somebody says action loudly enough, you do crazy things.
17:35And so I would hurl myself off this building and scream the whole way down, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma,
17:40ma, ma.
17:40And so I did it.
17:44Nobody cared.
17:45But I did it for a bunch of different episodes.
17:47And then I saw this huge, like, headwoods, ta-na-na-na-na-na, headlines everywhere, ba-ba-ba-ba
17:53-ba.
17:54Angelina Jolie does her own stunt.
17:56She jumps off.
17:56And I was like, that's that building.
17:59It's a big deal.
18:00I didn't realise nobody covered me doing it.
18:03Is it true that that show made CIA job applications spike?
18:08Oh, it did.
18:08It's called the Sydney Effect.
18:10Oh, it's actually got a name.
18:12Yeah.
18:12There's a band of women all about the same age who were coming of age, you know, right when Alias...
18:18Did you guys ever see Alias?
18:20Yeah, it was on here.
18:21Yeah, it was on here.
18:21I'm looking for some kind of love.
18:26We got it.
18:28Yes, we saw it.
18:31Anyway, yes, a bunch of young women joined the CIA.
18:35Wow.
18:36Yeah.
18:36Listen, Jennifer, good luck with your latest thriller.
18:39You can see season two of The Last Thing He Told Me on Apple TV episode one is available right
18:44now.
18:45Very good.
18:47Now...
18:47APPLAUSE
18:49This is extraordinary.
18:51Charlie XCX, award-winning singer-songwriter, has turned actor in the moment.
18:58It's opened in cinemas today.
19:00And so you're playing...
19:02You're playing a version of yourself.
19:04Yes.
19:05And I'm a real...
19:07Bitch.
19:09Yeah.
19:10So it's a mockumentary, but it started...
19:13I mean, so tell us about the genesis of this idea.
19:16Sure, yeah.
19:17I'd basically just kind of come off this sort of huge, like, change in my life where I'd made this
19:22album Brat and it had kind of opened me up to...
19:25Oh, thanks.
19:27Thanks.
19:28Thanks.
19:29It had kind of opened me up to this whole new audience that I just, you know, I'd never really
19:34experienced anything like before.
19:36I'd never experienced, like, that scale of people being interested in what I had to say.
19:42Yeah.
19:42And, you know, that was quite a, like, heavy, like, confusing, fun, but sometimes very, like, vulnerable change, you know?
19:51And I...
19:52My way of responding to anything is to make art.
19:55And I've also, you know, been making music and been in the industry since I was 15.
20:00And I think, as with all of our industries, you know, you meet a lot of characters.
20:05Some of them are awesome and some of them aren't.
20:08And so I felt that, you know, the music industry is so ripe for satire.
20:12And with what I'd been through coupled with that, I kind of felt like I wanted to do this mockumentary
20:17of my experience.
20:18And when your friends watch this film...
20:21Yeah.
20:21Like, will they kind of go, oh, that's not really Charlie?
20:25Or will they...
20:27Like, what are the differences between the moment Charlie and this Charlie?
20:32Well, you know, I think I'm touching on real parts of myself, obviously.
20:36Like, I've definitely had many a breakdown in the back of a van and chain smoked a pack of cigarettes
20:42and screamed.
20:43But I don't... It's like, I don't do it all the time, but in this film I do it a
20:46lot, you know?
20:48So, yeah.
20:48Well, listen, we've got a clip.
20:50This is you getting some direction from the director that's brought in, played by Alexander SkarsgƄrd.
20:56Very good.
20:59And...
21:00And...
21:02And...
21:02Presumably, you know, you're...
21:05You know, you're satirising it here, but presumably there must have been a lot of pressure on you to keep
21:11Rat Summer going.
21:12Yeah.
21:12That you had to resist.
21:13Yeah, I mean, it's sort of, you know, it probably did go on a bit too long, you know?
21:19But, um...
21:20I think this film is probably...
21:22The end.
21:24You know?
21:25Honestly, it is extraordinary, because, you know, Gordon Ramsay, you were all over Rat Summer, weren't you?
21:30Yeah, I have three daughters, yes.
21:31Yeah.
21:32Yeah.
21:33Yes, they loved it.
21:34Yeah.
21:35And Jennifer, Benicio, were you aware of Rat Summer?
21:37Very aware, yes.
21:38I have three kids, yeah.
21:39All about it.
21:40Yeah, my daughter also.
21:41She's 14.
21:42She's 14, yeah.
21:43And I hit with the kids.
21:45I love it.
21:47It's better than people being like, my grandma loves you!
21:53Right?
21:54But, I mean, as parents and children, do the children, do their behaviour get worse?
21:59Or, like, do they channel what they thought Brat was?
22:03Just attitude, you know, in abundance and loud volume.
22:07I think the older you get, the lower you want the volume, and it's like...
22:10I mean, I feel like they could have got that from you.
22:19It's been Brat Kitchen for some time, yeah.
22:24Oh, man.
22:25Now, Charlie, I'm here to tell you, not the only pop star on the couch,
22:31because Benicio del Toro, he starred in Madonna's video for La Isla Bonita back in the day.
22:40Turn it down.
22:41Turn it down.
22:42Turn it down.
22:42I didn't star.
22:43Oh, wait a minute.
22:44I think if we watch closely, we can see you.
22:47If you...
22:49Big magnifying glass, yeah.
22:50You're the Courtney Cox of the video.
22:52Let's watch a...
22:52No, you are in this.
22:54I wasn't...
22:54I wasn't...
22:54I was an extra.
22:56Yes.
22:57But there weren't many extras.
22:59Oh, I don't know.
22:59There were a lot of dancers.
23:00I wasn't dancing.
23:01I was just sitting there.
23:02Like I'm now.
23:03In the bit that we're going to enjoy, Benicio is the one sitting on the car.
23:09Okay?
23:10Please find him.
23:10Okay.
23:11Eyes peeled, everyone.
23:13Here we go.
23:14There he is.
23:15Right there.
23:15Right there.
23:17Where he goes.
23:17We'll see him again.
23:18We'll see him again.
23:20There's Madonna, obviously.
23:21There's a man.
23:22There he is.
23:23Right there.
23:24Oh, oh.
23:31Look at you.
23:33Look at you.
23:33Right here.
23:34How the hell did that happen?
23:38Well, it was a job.
23:40Okay.
23:40Yeah.
23:40Yeah.
23:41It was a job.
23:41I was an extra and I, you know, I was a fan of Madonna, but I was also a fan
23:45of Sean Penn.
23:47They were together.
23:48And I thought maybe if I go there, maybe I get to meet them.
23:52Did you?
23:52Uh, no.
23:54Not there.
23:54Later.
23:54Okay.
23:55Now you know him.
23:57Did you meet Madonna or anything?
23:59Later.
24:00Okay, but not then.
24:01No, you were just the guy in the car.
24:02I'm just the guy in the car with everybody else.
24:05How long did you have to sit on that car for?
24:06You've got to start somewhere.
24:08Yes.
24:09Yeah.
24:09You're in it.
24:10Yeah.
24:11I'm in it.
24:12And it's 2026 and we're looking at it on the chat show.
24:15Did you go from this to James Bond?
24:19Um, I think James Bond was in the, in the can.
24:23Wow.
24:24Yeah.
24:24Amazing.
24:25I think, yeah.
24:25This is after James Bond.
24:27Yeah.
24:28It really wasn't the break you were hoping for.
24:32You've got to make a living.
24:35You've got to make a living.
24:36Charlie, when you kind of started performing, you were doing these raves.
24:41You were singing at raves in East London.
24:43Yeah.
24:44But your parents would have to bring you because you were so young.
24:46Yeah.
24:47Yeah.
24:47I was sort of like 15 when I first started going.
24:51And, you know, it's that time where you're kind of like, I'm going to be so independent
24:55and cool.
24:56I'm going to go to these raves.
24:57And then my parents were like, and we're coming with you.
25:00You know, so it's like the rebellion just got kind of like taken from my grasp.
25:04And then we were this weird family who went to raves.
25:08I love how sweet.
25:09Your parents sound adorable.
25:10They're very sweet.
25:11What's the story your, someone tried to sell drugs to your dad?
25:16He, he, yeah.
25:17He, I, he hates when I tell the story, but yes, he.
25:20I think it comes out of it very well.
25:21Yeah.
25:22Well, it's very, you know, loud.
25:23It's loud in the rave.
25:24Of course.
25:25It's very loud.
25:25And I think they were trying to sell him some MDMA or something.
25:29And I think there was a sort of miscommunication about whether it was MDF.
25:38You know, I think, I don't think he really wanted either.
25:43I think there was just some sort of miscommunication there.
25:46You know, understandably so.
25:48I just love that.
25:48Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
25:50He was approaching it in a very positive way.
25:53Yeah.
25:53Of course someone would try to sell me MDF.
25:55Yeah.
25:55Why not?
25:56Yeah.
25:57Yeah, yeah.
25:58And congratulations to you, the number one album in the land, Wuthering Ice.
26:08Because I was thinking, if someone had said, even like two years ago,
26:13Charlie XAX will have a number one album with an album called Wuthering Heights.
26:17Yeah.
26:17People wouldn't have thought that was happening.
26:19No.
26:20Absolutely not.
26:21I can still believe it's happening.
26:22I feel very, very lucky and happy, yeah.
26:25Fair enough.
26:25Listen, we look forward to all your work.
26:27And just a reminder, you can see Charlie in The Moment.
26:30It's in cinemas at this very moment.
26:32Very good.
26:35Pretty cool.
26:36Yeah.
26:40Gordon Ramsay, for it is he, brings us a very true to life version of events in his
26:45new documentary series, Being Gordon Ramsay.
26:48It's out now on Netflix.
26:51So, they were filming you for what, over a year?
26:54Yeah, just over.
26:5414 months.
26:55Yeah.
26:56And they're following you on this extraordinary restaurant project.
27:00Yes.
27:00I mean, I know you say it is, but presumably it is your most ambitious project to date.
27:05Tell us about it.
27:06Yeah.
27:0822 Bishopsgate.
27:09It's sort of, you know, the sort of iconic address.
27:12Tallest restaurant in Europe.
27:14And, you know, 35,000 square feet.
27:17And then setting up five, five operations on two floors.
27:21Oh, there they all are.
27:22So.
27:22Yeah.
27:22This one isn't open yet, but it's opening.
27:25Yes, that's right.
27:25Bresley Kitchen.
27:26Lucky Cat opened.
27:27Lucky Cat opened.
27:29Terrace?
27:29We've got the terrace.
27:30Roof, not done yet, but it's coming.
27:32You're kidding.
27:33It's still not done.
27:34Well, we're sort of.
27:37I've seen the documentary.
27:39It's like, dear God, is it not done yet?
27:41It's been bloody rain for 49 days.
27:43I'm so glad.
27:44I'm so glad.
27:45At this level, you still can't get things done.
27:48No, no, but it's rather high, honestly.
27:51You see helicopters underneath you, you see those planes underneath you going to City Airport.
27:55The Academy is up and running brilliantly, which is great.
27:59And then...
28:00What's this bit?
28:01What's the big bit here?
28:02That's the air conditioning.
28:03Oh, OK.
28:05It's a lovely temperature, Benicio.
28:07You'll enjoy it.
28:09It's perfect.
28:10I love it.
28:10Honestly, I don't think I could have done this 10, 15 years ago.
28:13The project is massive.
28:15Yeah.
28:15And everything comes up in that elevator.
28:19Every pot, every pan, every screw, every air conditioning duct, you name it, it comes
28:23up that elevator.
28:24Yeah.
28:25Pretty incredible.
28:26And here's the thing.
28:27You've been on telly for a long time.
28:29Yes.
28:29We've seen you on screen a lot.
28:30But in this, I wonder, how nervous were you because in this, it is different because
28:36there's cameras in your house, we see your family, we see your relationship, and that's
28:41new for you, isn't it?
28:43Yeah, to a certain extent.
28:43I think if I go back to the sort of beginning of the F-words, buying all the kids animals,
28:48you know, to understand where food comes from, and that sort of, don't waste, only take
28:52what you need, and respect food.
28:54And so, I think this was an important sort of insight to the sort of, you know, the 360,
29:03the pressure, the insight, the family time, and when we're on, we're on, when we're off,
29:08we're off, and I wanted that to come across beautifully.
29:10And there are some very sweet moments with you as a dad, and we've got a clip.
29:14This is you with Tilly, and Tilly's off to, well, I presume she's in catering school now,
29:21or culinary school now.
29:21Yeah, just finished, yeah.
29:22She didn't want to work in any of my restaurants, sadly, so she went off to Ballymolo.
29:27Oh, did you go home?
29:28Yeah, she spent an amazing time there to train, to come back to the fold.
29:32And this is Gordon and Tilly, and Tilly's buying her first chef whites.
29:36So sweet!
29:38Yeah, tough.
29:39Quite a moment.
29:40Quite a moment.
29:41Because I think, you know, it's too easy to say, I'm not a big fan of that Nepo stuff,
29:47and all we said from day one, find your passion, understand your worth,
29:51and don't follow, you know, create your own individuality.
29:54So, from a police officer to a Royal Marine Commando, to a chef,
29:57and to Holly in fashion, they have found their true passion.
30:01And so, I never wanted to put the pressure on the team with Ramsay's kids in the restaurant,
30:06and treading on eggshells.
30:07And so, Tills, don't take this the wrong way, but go off and learn from somebody else,
30:12an incredible cookery school, and then come back to the fold, established,
30:15and try and show the old man something.
30:18Yeah.
30:18And she's done just that.
30:20Now, I know who'd love to go to that academy.
30:23Charlie XCX.
30:23Uh, because your culinary skills, they're not great right now.
30:29Minus 100.
30:31No.
30:31No, no, no, like, really.
30:32No.
30:32Yeah, I would poison you innocent.
30:33No, I'd teach you, honestly.
30:35It's just, it's just not, it's just, my husband's a great cook.
30:39Right.
30:40So, why would I bother?
30:45You know what I mean?
30:47Yeah.
30:49Fair enough.
30:50Let him do his thing, he loves it.
30:53Yeah.
30:53Luckily, we do have a chef on the couch, Jennifer Garner.
30:57Yes.
30:57No, you could probably cook.
30:59And what do you, now, you do your pretend cooking show.
31:02Yeah, it's pretend.
31:03No, but it's kind of real.
31:04It's because I'm such a fan of actual cooking shows that I just, I mean,
31:10I cannot wait to see your movie, I'm so excited for it.
31:13But I kind of, I don't spoof them, I'm just, I don't, I'm a humble chef.
31:19I'm a mom cook.
31:20I cook for my kids.
31:21And you cook with your mom, your mom?
31:23Oh, sometimes.
31:24Yeah.
31:24Yes, my mom, yeah.
31:25This is Patricia Ann.
31:27Yeah.
31:27Well, there she is, Patricia Ann.
31:28There she is.
31:29Yeah.
31:29Oh, she loves it.
31:30She is going to be thrilled that she was mentioned here.
31:34It turns out, I have found out that my mom wishes she were famous.
31:37And she says, Jennifer, I was at the airport and four people recognized me.
31:42And I'm like, oh great, mom.
31:44That's wonderful.
31:45But it's, you know, I sense you are a good cook.
31:48No.
31:50And I'm not married.
31:53So, um, no, I can cook an egg.
31:57That's about it, a fried egg.
31:58I can fry it.
31:59No, come on, you can do more than a fried egg.
32:01Oh, maybe I could do a hot dog.
32:06You know, I've got my little things that I like.
32:10Put a little bit of relish on my egg.
32:12Right.
32:14Right there.
32:15Wow.
32:15It does give me a little, like, twang.
32:17Love that.
32:18A little chilli crisp.
32:19Yeah, a little bit.
32:20Love that.
32:20A little bit of mustard.
32:22Eggs with relish and hot dogs.
32:24Wow.
32:26I mean, not that I'm doing any better.
32:30You're being very judging.
32:33My husband would never serve me that.
32:38Just a reminder, you can see Gordon doing his thing
32:41in being Gordon Ramsay.
32:42It is on Netflix right now.
32:44Very good.
32:45OK.
32:49And this is exciting.
32:51It is time for music.
32:52This band have won 15 Grammys, five Brit Awards,
32:55and topped the UK charts six times.
32:57They're here tonight performing the title track
32:59from their forthcoming album,
33:01Your Favourite Toy.
33:02It is Foo Fighters.
33:04APPLAUSE
33:05Very nice to see you.
33:06Come on up.
33:07Take a look at everyone.
33:09Here we are all down.
33:10Charlie, Jennifer, Benicio.
33:13That is...
33:14They've got all the Foo Fighters.
33:18Oh, thank you.
33:19That was...
33:20It was like a wall of sound.
33:22It was fantastic.
33:23Absolutely fantastic.
33:25You've been on the show a couple of times before,
33:28but it's the first time you brought the whole circus
33:30to town.
33:30I know.
33:30So thank you very much.
33:31I know it's a lot of work to bring the whole Foo Fighters
33:34experience anywhere.
33:35Yeah, that's not hard, by the way, for us.
33:37We just go...
33:39And now you know some people on the couch.
33:41I think you know Gordon, right?
33:43Yes.
33:43And I mean, honestly, I spend a lot of time on the computer
33:49watching you and your recipes.
33:51I really do.
33:53Do you, too?
33:54No, no, no, no.
33:54Oh, we're now.
33:56We're now.
33:57We're the only one, Dave.
33:58He makes an egg, a hot dog, mustard and relish.
34:02Oh, boy.
34:02Yeah, I know.
34:03He does.
34:03You can check out Jennifer's YouTube channel.
34:05She cooks as well.
34:06Are you cooking all the time?
34:07I do like to cook, yeah.
34:09It's the best thing.
34:09I love it so much.
34:10It's the best.
34:10You have to feed people.
34:12You have to feed people.
34:13And I know now, I know you are a fan of Benicio
34:16because you love the movie.
34:18I mean, I'm trying to be cool right now.
34:19Well, right back, Adam.
34:21It's a legend.
34:21It's a legend.
34:23It's been a long...
34:24He's made a lot of my favourite movies.
34:26But, I mean, I watched the latest movie,
34:29I don't know, three weeks ago or something like that.
34:31And it's funny because the chemistry that you
34:33and Leo had together, that's like Mick and Keith.
34:37You know what I mean?
34:37I mean, that's like the collaboration, that sort of like
34:40that connection that you have with another person
34:43when you're making art.
34:44You don't find it often, but man, that movie is so amazing.
34:49It's so great.
34:50So great.
34:53And I don't have to ask you because I know you are a fan
34:57of Charlie XCX.
34:58Oh, yes.
34:59I mean, listen, that music in my house, it's on.
35:02No, you and your daughter, you did the apple dance.
35:05We did.
35:06Oh, cool.
35:07Have you seen this?
35:09I...
35:09You're about to.
35:10I'm about to see it.
35:12Here's Dave and his daughter doing the apple dance.
35:14I think the apple's running right to the corner.
35:17I don't know.
35:19I don't know.
35:22I don't know.
35:23I don't know.
35:25I don't know.
35:26I don't know.
35:26I don't know.
35:27I don't know.
35:28Very good.
35:31These writers don't do a lot of choreography.
35:34No.
35:34We don't.
35:35You're making an abstract approach and that's cool.
35:37Oh, good.
35:38Okay.
35:38Cool.
35:39I mean, that was basically my daughter saying,
35:40Dad, do this.
35:43And, yeah.
35:44She's beautiful.
35:45It was very impressive.
35:46She's amazing, yeah.
35:46Now, that song we just heard, Favourite Joy,
35:49is off the forthcoming album.
35:52The single is out now.
35:54Yes.
35:54This is out on April 24th, but you can pre-order it now.
35:58Oh.
35:58I believe.
35:59Yeah.
35:59I didn't know that.
36:00Yeah, no, yeah.
36:02And here's the thing, Dave, you know, because you guys,
36:05you've got this incredible back catalogue, you know,
36:08you've got so many hits, you could tour forever with what you've got
36:10how do you approach a new album?
36:13How do you know it's time?
36:15Or, like, do you just decide, right, new album,
36:18or are there just songs in your head?
36:20So, like, we've been a band for 30 years now.
36:23Wow.
36:24Right?
36:24And so we've all grown together and we've all been through life
36:30together, ups and downs, and it honestly, it's more than a musical
36:35thing.
36:36At some point you get to a place where it's kind of more than music,
36:39you know, it's our families and it's our friends.
36:42And most of us have, you know, most of the people we work with,
36:45it's been 35 years, 30 years.
36:48A lot of the people we work with are from the Nirvana days.
36:51And so it becomes something that's more than music.
36:54And you just kind of know when it's time.
36:58And so when we go and approach a new record, it's all determined
37:02by where we're at in our lives.
37:04Yeah.
37:04And we're, you know, a bunch of grumpy old men.
37:08And so...
37:09Yeah, but also, you're high energy old men.
37:12Like, these songs are meant to be performed.
37:14Well, you'd imagine that, you'd think that maybe as you get a bit
37:17older that things sort of soften.
37:18More ballads.
37:20It doesn't.
37:20As you get older, you're like...
37:23That's kind of what happens.
37:25So that's where we're at now.
37:27Yeah.
37:31You can see the Foo Fighters do things like that
37:34because you are on tour.
37:35You're coming to Liverpool two nights in June
37:40at the Anfield Stadium.
37:42And is the tour, like, is it a global tour
37:44and this is your dipping your toe into Britain?
37:46Mm-hmm.
37:46And that's the other great thing about being in the band
37:48is that we've been circling the planet for 30 years.
37:50So there's not too many places we haven't been.
37:52So when I look at this and I see, like,
37:56wait, there's only two shows in the UK?
37:59And they're like, oh, no, that's...
38:01The real tour is a year and a half from now.
38:04I'm just like, Jesus...
38:08The UK loves rock and roll music.
38:10It just does.
38:11And so you come out and you bring it.
38:14And it's like, it's just like, bang a whole field.
38:17Well, we're so glad to have you back.
38:19Good luck with the tour and the album.
38:22And thank you so much for that amazing performance.
38:24Foo Fighters, everybody!
38:31Right, that is really it before we go.
38:33Oh, no, there's a love-in, a love-in.
38:35Dave Gall, there's red wine there.
38:37Be careful.
38:38Sorry, sorry.
38:38I'm having a Gordon Ramsay moment.
38:42Right, that's really it before we go.
38:43Just time for a quick visit of the big red chair.
38:46Hello.
38:47Hello.
38:47Hi, what's your name?
38:48Abby.
38:49Abby, lovely.
38:49What do you do, Abby?
38:50I'm in medical sales.
38:52In medical sales?
38:53Yeah.
38:53And where are you from?
38:55Originally Scotland, but live here in London.
38:58Oh, yeah.
38:59She's going to go specific with the neighbourhood,
39:01and they thought, no, I won't.
39:02Just London.
39:04Greater London.
39:05Ugh.
39:06Abby of London.
39:08Off you go with your story.
39:11So, about 20 years ago, I was travelling around Thailand
39:14as part of my gap year with my sister,
39:16and we ended up attending a ping-pong show.
39:19Oh, yes.
39:20After a fair few drinks, I got talking to one of the performers
39:24who suggested I come up on stage and join in the fun.
39:27Oh, jeez.
39:27So, off I went backstage, got dressed into one of their bikinis,
39:31thrust out onto the stage, panic-stricken because I simply cannot dance.
39:37I noticed a trump-
39:38That's the least of your worries, aren't you?
39:41I noticed a trumpet in front of me and thought, perfect,
39:44this will distract everyone from the fact that I cannot dance.
39:47Made a beeline for the trumpet.
39:49Notice my sister in the corner of my eye,
39:52flailing her arms above her head,
39:54looking very stressed about something.
39:57I played the trumpet, I had a whale of a time.
40:00It wasn't until I got back into the audience and fully clothed
40:03that my sister informed me while I was backstage
40:05the performers were actually playing the trumpets,
40:08but not with their mouths.
40:14Oh, my God. Come on.
40:17Lucky hell.
40:19I'm so sorry, Benito, you travelled all this way to hear that story.
40:23That's OK.
40:23On your birthday.
40:24On your birthday.
40:26And with a jet lag.
40:33You're in rock and roll.
40:34Yeah.
40:35You've heard and seen worse.
40:37Listen, that really is all we've got time for.
