00:00Hey, lots of exciting content here on the stage. I'm back with you. My name is Louise Eklund. I'm your
00:04moderator for this next exciting session.
00:12So, many of you may have heard that the group Aeroport de Paris, I think we have a problem with
00:20the microphone.
00:21Sorry about this. Moving on. But those of you watching us from a distance, just doing a few technical checks
00:27here before we move on.
00:29Everything cool? Moving on. Great. Thank you very much.
00:32So, many of you have heard, I'm sure, that the group ADP Aeroport de Paris recently announced its partnership with
00:41Paris' 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
00:46So, the group, who welcomes nearly 90 million passengers each year in Paris, will put its expertise in terms of
00:54hospitality to the athletes, the Olympic family,
00:57and just generally people coming from across the globe, of course, this will be, for them, the gateway to Paris.
01:05People coming into Paris is their first impression of the Games and people leaving is also their last impression of
01:12the Games.
01:12So, to tell us a little bit about how Aeroport de Paris are preparing for this amazing event,
01:18I'd like you to now welcome the Deputy CEO of Group ADP, Edward Arkwright.
01:34So, Edward, thanks very much for joining us today.
01:38Really great to have you with us.
01:41First up, tell us how you're actually preparing for this amazing event that we're all waiting for.
01:47Good afternoon, Louise.
01:49Good afternoon, everyone.
01:50So, very happy to be there.
01:51First time in VivaTech for Group ADP, but I'm sure that's not the first time for you in our airports,
01:57from Paris to Chile or to Delhi.
02:01So, the Olympic Games is a great, great event for us, an exciting one, a challenging one, and exciting, of
02:08course, because it's a marvelous showcase.
02:10Today, we are in a business of hospitality, in the business of welcoming people, and it will be the best
02:19time, the best moment to welcome everyone.
02:23The first memory in Paris will be in our airports, the last memory will be in our airports, so we
02:30will make, hope so, a great experience.
02:33It is also a very challenging moment, of course, just to give you some figures.
02:40A day of, like today, we have in CDG more than 200,000 passengers, 60,000 pieces of luggage, 1
02:50,200 ATM just in CDG.
02:54For the Olympic Games, there will be no more passengers, maybe, but a very specific one, 15,000 athletes, 208
03:06delegations, 115,000 pieces of luggage, and the most challenging one, it's the oversized luggage.
03:16Because you can have maybe around 10 or 15,000 luggage in Paris one day, during the Olympic Games, we
03:24will have, in three days, 17,000 pieces of oversized luggage, and you can compete with only your shoes.
03:33You can't compete without your high jump, be it or something, or canoes, or something like that.
03:39So, very challenging issues in terms of luggage, in terms of flow management, of course.
03:46In terms of buses, because the athletes would like to go to the Olympic village, and, of course, a lot
03:52of special requests from a very important person.
03:56Very, very impressive figures. A lot of things to deal with there, but you're on the case, I know that.
04:01So, on the sustainability, passenger experience, the airport performance front, what challenges, what are the biggest challenges for you today?
04:11The biggest challenge, it is for luggage, frankly speaking, because we have to imagine the way to operate with these
04:18figures, etc.
04:20The second one, it is, of course, for the buses, because we will have a lot of people arriving and
04:29departing from buses, and we will create and we will experiment something very specific, something very new.
04:38It is an anticipation for the boarding and checking system.
04:45We have a partnership today here in Vivatec with All The Way. It is a startup working with Air France
04:52and RATP.
04:52You can, in Vivatec, if you are departing from Charles de Gaulle, you can try and try this new service.
05:01And for the Olympic Games, we will make for the first time what we call a pre-boarding and pre
05:08-checking with luggage in the Olympic village.
05:10So, all the athletes that would like to have this service will be able to check their luggage, give their
05:19luggage the day before leaving, and all the luggage will be carrying directly to the airport and directly to your
05:26plane, of course.
05:27And we will also open a dedicated departure terminal just for athletes and delegation, where they will have this last
05:36exciting and amazing experience in CDG.
05:39So, after that, if we have a very good return from that, we will try to develop this pre-boarding
05:49and pre-checking of luggage.
05:52Okay, so this is for the passenger experience. What about on the other aspects? For example, sustainability.
06:00Yeah, sustainability is vital in our industry. It's not only license to grow, but license to operate.
06:06So, impossible to imagine aviation without sustainability.
06:11So, Olympic Games will be a world first with VTOL. You will see it just before.
06:18So, you can use this kind of aircraft, which is VTOL, it is E-VTOL, electrical, vertical and take-off
06:24landing.
06:27You will have, in Paris, the first pre-commercialized service.
06:33It means more than 2,000 flights during beginning, end of July, 2024, with a certified aircraft.
06:43Of course, you are in aeronautical environment.
06:46We work on it since 2020, so we have built the first vertiport in Pontoise.
06:53We have made the first flights integrated in a normal air traffic, with air traffic control,
07:00with, of course, passenger experience, with business model, with safety requests, with security requests.
07:07And you will see just on the map what will be the new terminal VVIP in CDG, with the first
07:14vertiport and two of the velocities.
07:17We will have two velocities during this period, and I hope we will never close this service.
07:23And I hope it will reveal new users, for instance, for medical emergency.
07:29We have a great partnership with the assistance public, the French and Hospital of Paris.
07:36And we will, of course, open this new service, new line, with five vertiports, one in CDG, one in Le
07:45Bourget,
07:46which is the first private aviation platform in Europe, and sanitary platform in Europe.
07:55The third one will be in Héliport de Paris.
07:58The fourth one will be just close to Château de Versailles.
08:01And the last, but not the least, will be on the scene, Seine River, just in front of Gare de
08:07Serlitz.
08:08And it will be fantastic, really fantastic.
08:11So that's for sustainable aviation, but sustainability is not only for aircraft.
08:18We have another example, it is how to avoid plastic in our airports.
08:25So we have identified two solutions, with one, an Israeli startup, which is Tipa,
08:33and another one with a French one coming from Marseille, which is alternative plastic.
08:38And we will try to remove all this plastic in Paris or Lille next year.
08:44Four million of bags, just for security.
08:49Two million and a half for other users.
08:53And we will replace them by some other ones, with algs, with some natural products.
09:01It is very complex, because you can use another bag for your fruits or vegetables.
09:07But here you have to obey to some legal requests, very precise legal requests.
09:14So two examples of how the Olympic Games can make up, give up an acceleration in sustainability.
09:22Okay, so that's for the sustainability side.
09:24We've touched a little bit on passenger experience.
09:27And there's also the airport performance side of things.
09:31What does that imply for you, for your teams?
09:34The airport performance is key in the passenger experience,
09:37because the airport experience is the key for, for instance, the flow management,
09:42to avoid queue, to avoid also new terminals construction, new buildings.
09:47So it's very, very important in this decarbonized trajectory.
09:52Maybe two examples.
09:54The first one, it is the LIDAR technology.
09:56You have in ADP, Paul, the outside LIDAR technology.
10:02It is a very precise technology.
10:05You can identify a lot of people in this kind of big space.
10:11Anonymous, of course.
10:12And you can follow them all around the infrastructure,
10:18from one level to another one, including.
10:21And you can optimize, of course, the flow management.
10:25You can also facilitate the passenger experience.
10:29Just one example.
10:31We will try, we have begun, sorry,
10:34to deploy this kind of technology with SNCF guy connection.
10:37So the operator of station, railway station.
10:41And we will use it to make the intermodality between train and rail,
10:47and air, sorry, train and air better and easier.
10:51So that's an example.
10:54We have also another example, which is accessibility,
10:59because we will host the Olympic, but also the Paralympic.
11:04We are working with a great startup called LeifLaneuse.
11:08It is a kind of a role.
11:10You can use it just to carry your bag.
11:13You can use it if you have a child, or if you want to rest,
11:17or if you are disabled, but you don't want to ask for a dedicated service.
11:22So it is a free float service.
11:24We are making an experimentation in early today, 20 of them.
11:29All are used in the beginning,
11:32so I'm sure that LeifLaneuse will sell a lot of new items like that in our airports.
11:39And it will be very interesting to give and provide this service for everyone,
11:44for Paralympic.
11:46And Paralympic is also a very good moment to see
11:50and to identify all the key issues that we have to solve
11:53from now to, of course, September 2024.
11:57We're here at the heart of VivaTech.
12:00It's, you know, buzzing with innovation.
12:03So on the subject of innovation,
12:05how is that helping you to prepare for this Olympic-ready airport, Edouard?
12:12The Olympic-ready airport is a good,
12:15is a first step to a new airport,
12:18maybe better in terms of hospitality, in terms of sustainability.
12:23So it is a very good level to accelerate,
12:25to identify, test, and accelerate.
12:29The best example is for the explosive detection machine.
12:34We, you all have experimented in Paris
12:38that you, today you don't have to remove shoes,
12:42which was the case a couple of years ago.
12:44But now you have to just drop your phone,
12:49your computer, liquid, and so on.
12:52So we are experimenting in Orly,
12:54since now a couple of months,
12:56a new machine,
12:57which is like moving from the X-ray to the 3D scanner.
13:02You save a lot of time, of course,
13:06and better experience.
13:07And people working there can say,
13:09hi, Luis, welcome,
13:11have a nice flight,
13:13or something like that.
13:13Better than,
13:14do you have any phone,
13:17do you have any liquid in your bag, etc.
13:19So it changed completely,
13:20the passenger relationship, of course.
13:22And we will deploy them
13:26in each security line
13:29until 2024.
13:30and after 2024,
13:32deploy them on a very big site everywhere.
13:35So all this example is
13:37how from one innovation,
13:39you can improve significantly
13:42passenger experience.
13:43And between them,
13:44Olympic Games is an acceleration.
13:47On a sort of organizational note here,
13:52you've got staff working for you
13:55from before,
13:57working for you today.
13:58You're going to be recruiting,
13:59I guess, as well,
14:00for the Games in a certain way.
14:02Is everybody excited?
14:03How are the staff feeling?
14:04What state of mind are people in?
14:06So everyone is, of course,
14:07very excited.
14:08It is a source of proudness.
14:10It is a source of
14:11very strong commitment, of course.
14:13But also huge challenges.
14:15So we have recruited
14:16a dedicated team inside of ADP.
14:19Today, 40 persons working on it.
14:22We have recruited
14:24a dedicated volunteers team.
14:261,400, I've been recruited
14:31just for airport,
14:33just for airport,
14:34and some couple of days
14:36before what Paris 2024
14:39have organized.
14:41And their volunteers,
14:44these volunteers,
14:45they will have a special formation,
14:47they will have certification
14:48for having worked
14:50during the Olympic Games
14:51in the airport,
14:52and it will be a strong support
14:54to be recruited
14:55in the airport after that.
14:58And, of course,
15:00we will try to,
15:01we will launch a program
15:02of ambassador inside of ADP,
15:04inside of the community,
15:06because it's not the success
15:07of just one people
15:09or two people,
15:101,000 in ADP,
15:11but all the community,
15:13all the people working
15:14on the airports.
15:15and we are trying
15:17to mobilize them
15:19on this very exciting event.
15:22We're coming to the end
15:24of our discussion,
15:25Edouard,
15:26on a very personal note,
15:27are you excited?
15:29I am really excited.
15:31Frankly speaking,
15:32till having,
15:34till being, sorry,
15:35in Rio de Janeiro,
15:36to the Olympics in Rio,
15:38the Olympics was something
15:40on TV,
15:41something very far away.
15:43but I've been very lucky
15:45to live this experience
15:48that's fantastic.
15:50You are inside the world,
15:51you meet the world,
15:52you can see a lot
15:54of new disciplines,
15:55you meet a lot of people,
15:57so that's a very unique experience
15:59in one world,
16:00and in Paris,
16:01we will welcome the world.
16:03It will be a great,
16:04great exciting challenge.
16:06Wonderful.
16:06Well, we're really excited
16:07to live through this event
16:09with you guys as well.
16:11Wonderful.
16:11A last word,
16:12maybe to everybody
16:13that's listening to us.
16:14You are all,
16:14all,
16:15and always welcome
16:16in our airports,
16:17because you are our customers.
16:19Thank you so much.
16:20Thank you, Louise.
16:20Thank you very much.
16:21Edward Arkwright,
16:22Aeroport de Paris.
16:24Thank you so much.
