00:00Iran says it reached a quote general agreement with the U.S. on a potential nuclear deal,
00:05but cautions the next stage could be a lot more difficult. This relatively positive diplomatic
00:10progress comes as the U.S. and Iran wrap up their second round of talks in Geneva on Tuesday,
00:16led by Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff and the President's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
00:20Iran's foreign minister says the understanding is the two sides will now each draft and exchange
00:25texts for a potential agreement before setting a date for a third round of talks.
00:30The main question at hand appears to be, will Iran be allowed to maintain some domestic uranium
00:35enrichment capacity for its nuclear power program? However, we've heard from U.S. Secretary of State
00:41Marco Rubio the U.S. wants other issues on the table as well, including the country's ballistic
00:47missile program and its support of proxy militia groups in the region. Bloomberg Economics says
00:52a sole focus on Iran's uranium enrichment is unlikely enough for the Trump administration
00:57to strike a deal, which is part of why our analysts maintain the potential for military action
01:02is still likely. We've also seen escalation in recent days, including the deployment of a second
01:07U.S. aircraft carrier strike group to the region and Iran closing part of a crucial waterway,
01:13the Strait of Hormuz, on Tuesday for several hours for previously announced military drills.
01:18President Trump says diplomacy remains the first option, even as he leaves open the possibility
01:23of military action. He told reporters on Air Force One Monday he remains, quote,
01:28indirectly involved in the negotiations.
