00:02And we're back at Viva Tech News, of course, here in studio on the ground at Paris Expo.
00:07You can also join us on our digital platforms and join the conversation with the hashtag Viva Tech.
00:12I'm still Marjorie Payon, and you're watching Breaking Tech.
00:15Coming up, let's talk about FemTech, a brand new section here at Viva Tech this year, and a business on
00:21the rise.
00:22Well, actually, to talk about it, I'm joined live by Mathilde Ousset.
00:26Mathilde, the founder of Smooth Lingerie, and it's literally at the crossroads of fashion innovation and health impact.
00:34You launched back in 2019.
00:37Well, at that time, was FemTech a buzzword, to be honest?
00:42Yeah, thank you for having me.
00:43I'm super happy to exchange with you about this super important subject.
00:48At the beginning, it was already the beginning of the FemTech, and not really.
00:55We were few startups that launched products about the technology for women, but it was not yet today.
01:10And I think it's incredible to have a FemTech booth today at Viva Tech.
01:14It shows that now, it's really an important matter.
01:20Absolutely.
01:21And your core business is definitely menstrual panties.
01:25Now, the global period panties market was valued over 100 million US dollars in 2022,
01:31and is expected to grow annually by 18% between 2023 and 2030.
01:39Would you say that the awareness regarding women's health issues is also raising accordingly?
01:45Yeah, and this is amazing.
01:47And now, you know, there is a lot of products that provide women some solution.
01:55And just, maybe I can just focus on sports, because, you know, 78% of women said that doing some
02:04sports reduced their menstrual pain.
02:06And still, 70% of women said that they are not doing sports during their period,
02:14because they are afraid of leaks, or they are not okay about it.
02:19So, it's really important to know about that, and to provide a solution for women to help them live their
02:28day like it's normal during their period.
02:31Absolutely. And probably...
02:32It's what we are trying to do with our sportswear range.
02:36And there is other issues we want to target, like urinary leaks, or things like that, which is taboo.
02:46But it's part of life. So, we need to do something about that.
02:53Well, startups and tech are all about disrupting taboos, and you're finding new solutions.
02:58So, that's what you came up with when it comes to smooth lingerie again.
03:02According to the World Bank, as many as 500 million people across the globe lack access to just basic menstrual
03:10solutions.
03:11How can you bridge that gap? How can you make it more affordable to those women?
03:15It's very an important subject, and menstrual productivity is one of our focus.
03:23And we are working with associations like Regle Elementaire.
03:28We are offering thousands of ponties to Regle Elementaire and other associations.
03:33We implement some partnership with CRUS. I don't know the English equivalence, but with university.
03:41Students housing.
03:41Yeah, with school and university to provide women the strictly necessary to have a period correctly.
03:53So, it's an important subject for us.
03:56Absolutely. And you know that the UK has been tackling what is called period poverty since 2018.
04:03And definitely, as you've been doing, guys, at Smooth Lingerie, the dramatic consequences when it comes to education.
04:10And you've developed also a new line of menstrual pantries dedicated to young girls.
04:17Yes. Yes. Because, you know, when you... The first time you have your period, it's really complicated.
04:22You are at school. You don't really know how to put tampons or pads, and it's really difficult.
04:28And you don't want your friends can show you have your period.
04:32So, with the panty, with the menstrual panty, you just put your panty on in the morning, and that's it.
04:39So, it's really important because it's de-dramatized. I don't know the English for that, de-dramatized.
04:45It works. Definitely works.
04:47And it's easier for teenagers to go through this period, to navigate this period.
04:55Absolutely. My God. I mean, 51% of humanity definitely know what you're talking about.
05:00And in recent weeks, you've also teamed up with ETAM for a brand-new menstrual swimsuit collection.
05:07Still brings us to sports.
05:09Yeah. We have a collaboration with ETAM since the beginning in 2019.
05:15And it's a great support for us because we are a small brand, and it allows us to make our
05:26products well-known in France.
05:28We have a retail distribution in all the territory, which is difficult when you are starting your company.
05:36So, it's really great.
05:38And this year, we continue this. We expanded this partnership with the swimwear, and it's a great success because this
05:48swimwear is really a technical progress.
05:52Absolutely.
05:52So, we are really happy to see this collaboration, this partnership continue with ETAM.
05:59Mathilde Ousset, Smooth Lingerie, let's make the menstrual regulation stranding and trending with you, of course.
06:07Speaking of femtech, actually, Anna Kowalska awaits with the founder of Jammy Life.
06:13Thank you.
06:13Thank you.
