00:00Hello, one and all.
00:01Welcome back to another episode of Adventuring Party.
00:03I'm your humble GM, Bradley Mulligan.
00:05With me, as always, are our Dusty Do-Gooders.
00:08Say hi, Dusty Do-Gooders.
00:09Hi, Dusty Do-Gooders.
00:12What a first step, and welcome to your first
00:14adventuring party in First Time in the Dome
00:15from Vic Michalis and Kimmy Ababarni.
00:17Wow!
00:19So cool, so cool, so cool.
00:21Hi, Vic.
00:21Hi, Vic.
00:22Hi, Vic.
00:23Oh, and they're cool.
00:26And we both did it at the same time.
00:27So cool, so cool, so cool.
00:28I should say I'm TAC, I'm TAC.
00:31No, I'm Ali, it's great to meet both of you.
00:33Awesome, nice to meet you.
00:35I'll see you around, hopefully.
00:37We're not doing autographs right now, so.
00:40Oh, shit, maybe I could get a pick.
00:42Well, gang, what a goddamn hoot.
00:46We have entered the Gladlands.
00:48Our selfie, lovely.
00:52Super famous person here.
00:54Just take a quick pick.
00:55I can't, I can't do this.
00:57That's really cool.
00:57Cool.
00:58Can we get a pick?
01:00Can we just get a quick one?
01:02Yeah, get out of the way.
01:03Get a quick one there.
01:04And we do it with social media policy on set,
01:06so just be aware of that.
01:08Great, boo-boo.
01:10We're not putting it anywhere.
01:12We have some business.
01:13Who here has boo-boos they need to spend?
01:16I gotta be boo-boo.
01:18One, two.
01:19I got two boo-boos.
01:20Three, four?
01:21Two boo-boos.
01:22I got four boo-boos and two selfies.
01:23Wait, hold on, we gotta add this up.
01:25How many we got here?
01:25Two.
01:26Two, three is five, one is six, one is seven.
01:30Four.
01:31Eleven.
01:31I'll be honest.
01:32Can I be honest for a second?
01:34One time in the episode, and you can cut this out if you need,
01:37I used a boo-boo when I didn't have a boo-boo,
01:39so maybe I should take one boo-boo out of this.
01:42I did watch that happen.
01:43I thought, it's fine.
01:44So that's 12?
01:45Allie has a really bad picture of me.
01:46Can that be a boo-boo?
01:48We're gonna move this good goop back up to a nine, baby.
01:54Wait, does each one count?
01:55What's the measurement?
01:56Five to one.
01:57Okay, chill.
01:58Five boo-boos to one.
01:59They are, I will just say, so powerful.
02:02Yes.
02:02To be able to add plus 10 immediately to something,
02:05if that's your d20 roll, like, yeah, that's really cool.
02:09Even to be able to add plus two feels big.
02:11Even two really moved the needle, yeah.
02:13I think it was great, our amazing game design team,
02:16and first of all, shout out to our amazing game design team
02:18that worked on this, which was Hannah Rose,
02:19Brandon Stoddard, Maisie Veselak, Dan Dillon,
02:22we have our amazing design team.
02:27And also shout out to our incredible art department,
02:30our DM screen by Amber Padgett and Charles Weissen,
02:33Goo Gauge by Amber Padgett, love the Goo Gauge,
02:35Bomberometer, Casey McGeorge and Amber Padgett,
02:38Neutral Board by Jessie Herron, Paint by Jessie,
02:41and Maura Takeshita, and consoles by Ryan Berry and Ryder.
02:44Mine is weird.
02:45It looks awesome.
02:47These consoles are so fun.
02:48This is the sickest shit I've ever loved.
02:49It's incredible.
02:50Because this, like, we were here two days ago.
02:53Yeah.
02:53This was not painted.
02:54Didn't look like this.
02:55And now look at it now.
02:57And now look at it now.
02:58Zach, what are you holding?
03:00A bouquet of teeth.
03:02A tooth cake.
03:02That's the spirit of this show, I feel like.
03:04If a bouquet of teeth is not the name of this
03:06Adventuring Party episode.
03:08There's something.
03:09We've done something wrong.
03:10Some people's smile is a bouquet of teeth.
03:12You're just like, oh, whoa.
03:15Like your little.
03:16Oh yeah, let's see your bouquet of teeth.
03:19Yeah, we found out about Quinn, who ate her husband.
03:22She ate her husband too fast.
03:24Way too fast.
03:25I don't know if it's that fast, though.
03:27So you have three meals a day.
03:28Yeah.
03:28You did it in a month.
03:29You have three meals a day.
03:30There's only so much meat on a bone.
03:31But I think the issue here is that you were only down there for like a month, right?
03:37No!
03:38Nine months.
03:38Nice.
03:40But were you locked in your room for nine months?
03:42It felt like nine months and that's pretty much all I can say.
03:45Okay, so that's an important distinction.
03:47It felt like nine months.
03:49An actual time if we were to go like moon cycle, sun cycle.
03:52We all agreed not to go over real lore in an adventuring party, right?
03:56We all agreed not to go over real lore.
04:00I think I said very succinctly that it felt like nine months.
04:04Yeah.
04:04Well, that's a great point.
04:06I think what's tricky about that for me is it was an actual literal amount of time.
04:11But the point is, he got eaten and we can put that in behind us.
04:14He got eaten.
04:14Yeah.
04:16And it's just that kind of thing, you know?
04:18It's like the prisoner's dilemma.
04:20Something just like that.
04:21It's eat or be eaten.
04:21Don't pretend to be like that.
04:22Is that the prisoner's dilemma?
04:24No.
04:24It was eat or be eaten.
04:27Yeah.
04:28Huh.
04:29I think that's Charles Darwin.
04:30Isn't the prisoner's dilemma one of the cards is lying and one of the cards is telling the truth?
04:33Survival of the Fit is the prisoner's dilemma.
04:36It's similar and it has a weird symmetry to it.
04:38Okay.
04:39The prisoner's dilemma is you and a friend commit a crime together.
04:42It doesn't have to be a friend.
04:42Someone.
04:43Commit a crime together and you're both being interrogated by the police separately.
04:47Huh.
04:47And it's a piece of game theory where if you both refuse to talk, you'll both walk free.
04:55If you say that you are guilty and the other person doesn't talk, they go to jail, right?
05:06And you have like a commuted sentence because you cooperated, right?
05:12If they talk and you don't talk, you go away forever.
05:16And if you both talk, you both have a slightly commuted sentence.
05:19And within game theory of it, the whole thing is like mathematically it's in your advantage to squeal.
05:25Because there's like a mathematics of it's the less, on average, you're serving fewer years if you talk.
05:32Math is a snitch.
05:33Math wants you to be a snitch.
05:35But then the weird thing is you're like, then why do criminal organizations never do this and always don't talk?
05:41And if we got in trouble, I want you guys to know, sealed tight, not snitching.
05:46Same.
05:46Same.
05:47That was me before I heard this.
05:49I'm snitching now.
05:50What the heck?
05:51Data driven.
05:52Data driven.
05:53I have to snitch.
05:54I've always known that about you.
05:55This is why these math nerds aren't out here doing a lot of cool little crimes.
06:01Yeah.
06:03Have you seen Now You See Me?
06:05I feel like that's the premise of Now You See Me.
06:08It's exactly the premise of Now You See Me.
06:10Is that the one where they do a magician's robbing?
06:13A Steve Carell magician comedy?
06:14Not Steve Carell.
06:15Can we get a quick picture?
06:16Oh, sorry.
06:17There's two conversations happening.
06:18What's happening?
06:19Nothing.
06:20Our thing is stupid.
06:20That one's better.
06:21It's so dumb.
06:22It's the dumbest thing in the world.
06:23Yeah.
06:24Ours is really intelligent.
06:25Ours getting to the bottom of a movie that time?
06:27Thank God.
06:28This can't be the more serious one.
06:31I think I have a...
06:33We were just doing kind of this, but on our end.
06:35I have a very important way to get us back on track.
06:38We have this whole thing of boo-boos.
06:41Yes.
06:42A very important mechanic to the game.
06:44Boo-boos are an assortment of nuts, bolts, teeth.
06:47And I just really have to say, at first glance, I thought this tooth was the grossest.
06:52The kind that had this kind of roots.
06:54Oh, yeah.
06:55Where there's like three roots.
06:56It's kind of classic tooth in a lot of ways.
06:59Thinking about it a little longer, I think this kind of tooth is grosser.
07:03Oh, like a canine prong?
07:04A canine with just one prong at the bottom of your tooth being that long is haunting.
07:10It sucks.
07:10Yeah, that's pretty scary.
07:12But we all have that.
07:13Do we?
07:13We have them, but it doesn't make it not gross.
07:16It doesn't make it not gross.
07:17What about this one with like three or four?
07:18That's what I'm saying.
07:20That's an upside down.
07:22Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:23It's crazy to just even think that teeth are bones.
07:25There's like three or four of these prongs going deep in.
07:28Yeah.
07:28How does that work?
07:29It's crazy.
07:30Can you really zoom out?
07:31Teeth are bones.
07:33Yeah.
07:33Teeth are bones.
07:34Two of my teeth are not bones.
07:36What is it?
07:36Explain.
07:37Wood.
07:38Go ahead.
07:39So mad.
07:41So mad!
07:42So mad!
07:43Yeah, what, man?
07:45Fucking what?
07:45They're implants.
07:46They're cubic zirconia implants.
07:50On steel.
07:50Rich.
07:51I know.
07:51Cubic zirconia?
07:53Don't tell people.
07:54Diamond.
07:55Wait, which ones?
07:56Not diamond.
07:57Fake diamond.
07:57Wait, which ones?
07:59This guy and this guy right here.
08:01Wow.
08:03Huge.
08:03A front teeth.
08:04Lore drop.
08:04What's the story there?
08:05Accident?
08:07Lore drop.
08:07I've divulged in the past that I had a potentially fatal abscess in the roof of my mouth.
08:13Oh my god.
08:14Had to get emergency surgery.
08:16And had to fly to Costa Rica because I was uninsured and the only place that I could afford to
08:21get the surgery I needed was not in the United States of America.
08:24That was 15 years ago.
08:28And...
08:28It's only gotten worse.
08:29It's only gotten worse.
08:30So just we could...
08:32And that's why we're talking about the Gladlands because we could have good things.
08:36Right that way.
08:37We could have good things.
08:39I would kind of like to live in an irradiated desert where everybody agreed that helping was good.
08:45That's so good, Brandon.
08:46Can we get a quick pick?
08:47Can we get a...
08:48Yeah, that's good.
08:50That was really good.
08:54Was that...
08:55Oh, in any case, I was told by my doctor, Dr. Villalobos, that if I were ever cremated, Crematorium, Gladlands,
09:01the show, if I were ever cremated, he was like, the last things that would remain of you would be
09:08those two teeth.
09:09Because they would not break apart.
09:11So your dentist was just like, fun fact.
09:14He was like, literally, fun fact, if you have your ashes, your kids can shake them and they'll hear those
09:19clink clink clink of those screws rattling around.
09:22It takes a long time to burn bones.
09:24Yes.
09:25Longer than you think.
09:26Wow.
09:27It's crazy to think that your ashes will have a sound.
09:31It's true.
09:32If I say a fact, it's okay.
09:34It's just a fact.
09:35It's just a fact.
09:36It's not connected to me necessarily.
09:37My wife was very...
09:40My wife.
09:42Can you believe?
09:44I'm gonna get us back on track right now.
09:46This is going real well.
09:46I'm gonna get us back on track right now.
09:48This is tough.
09:48Anything usable.
09:49I'm gonna get us back on track right now.
09:51I have an energy that brings out in people this not working.
09:55And I don't know what it is about me that makes it if I'm like, guys, what if we all
10:01made pizza?
10:02And everyone said, we will go to any lengths to make sure a pizza is not made in this kitchen
10:07today.
10:08It's something that is wrong with me.
10:10A love full of earnestness and joy in your heart I think is what it is.
10:13Yes.
10:13Exactly.
10:14Yeah.
10:14I think that's it too.
10:16But I think if I say it, it gets worse.
10:18I just want to say in my little Lego piece, I have ten teeth.
10:25I have ten teeth.
10:28That was a selfie.
10:29That was a selfie.
10:30I'm gonna get us back on track right now.
10:31Thank God.
10:31I'm ready to lock in.
10:33We need to.
10:33Okay, let's lock in.
10:34I'm getting us back on track right now.
10:39Guys, we're gonna play a little fun game here in the Gladlands.
10:44That was your idea, Zach?
10:47Now, that one pissed me off in real life.
10:51That one was over the line.
10:56We have a little game here we're gonna play in the Gladlands during our adventuring parties where we're going to
11:01determine sort of the nature of the tower.
11:06We have this really fun system we're playing for the Gladlands where you guys have your virtues.
11:11Your like Gladlands attributes of determination, charm, awareness, creativity, warmth, and resilience.
11:16And we're gonna extrapolate this out into the community resources because you guys are about to get into Rotglob.
11:22I need to know what kind of problems Rotglob is dealing with.
11:27Rotglob is the swampy agricultural basket of the Gladlands.
11:32A toxic bog with enough rotting vegetation and poisonous bug life to produce all of the tasty food that people
11:41in the Gladlands need.
11:44Within that structure, I think it would be fun for us to kind of co-design or shared world build
11:51these places.
11:53Everyone be so kind and roll a d20 for me.
11:56Let's do it right now.
12:0010.
12:01Did anyone get above a 15?
12:03What'd you get, Zach?
12:052.
12:052.
12:06Oh, you got a 2?
12:07That's not above a 15.
12:09I just had been doing that.
12:10Had been doing that.
12:12Did anybody get above a 10?
12:15Okay, we got a bunch of above 10.
12:1710.
12:1710.
12:1915.
12:1914.
12:2014 right here.
12:22So, Oscar, we're gonna start with you.
12:24Everyone remember what you rolled.
12:25And we're going to assign dice to basically determine which community resources Rock Lob has in spades and which it's
12:37kind of struggling with or where its community might need a little bit of shoring up, especially from such wonderful
12:42caretakers as our dusty do-gooders.
12:46Each of our six attributes corresponds to like a community resource that these communities have.
12:53So, charm corresponds to harmony and how much harmony exists in a community.
12:59And warmth corresponds to love, creativity to joy, awareness to wisdom, resilience to safety, and determination to cooperation.
13:11Here in the Gladlands, surfing on a sandstorm and turning into a tornado is, hey, baby, that's a fucking cheese
13:18day.
13:19However, tending to community and being intentional with how we take care of each other, that shit is hard.
13:26And so, we need these resources and we need to take care of them.
13:31Oscar, you're gonna go first on that 14.
13:33And I want you to assign a die size, D20 through D4, to one of the civic virtues that exist
13:43in Rock Lob.
13:44What are they struggling with?
13:45What are they okay at?
13:46And then what are they really excelling at?
13:49Love that.
13:50Question.
13:51Yeah.
13:51We explored the D20 side, the sort of like great positive things about this, these attributes.
14:01Yeah.
14:01Can we explore what the worst case, like what the D4 of that?
14:05Yeah, if you wanna assign the D4 up top, go for it, baby.
14:09And they'll just ask you to assign it and then create a detail around Rock Lob based on that.
14:14Oh, okay, work.
14:14Um, I feel like, because this is such a, they're able to cultivate sort of like what feeds the Gladlands.
14:27Yeah.
14:27In a sort of like, swampy sort of gross looking spot.
14:34Yeah.
14:34Um, you would need resilience to like, power through and grow these.
14:40I know I asked for the D4 of it, but I'm giving it a D20.
14:43So resilience is the highest aspect of it.
14:45D20 and resilience.
14:47Incredible.
14:48Keep them guessing.
14:49I'm gonna put the D20 right here, uh, in front of our little resilience meter.
14:54Ooh.
14:56Sick.
14:56Let me do this one over here.
14:57I got my own set.
14:58Okay, D20 right here, resilient.
15:00So Rock Lob, they are, they are set when it comes to, they're tough and sturdy.
15:06Uh, I love that.
15:08Uh, what's like a detail about Rock Lob that is like, like how does their resilience, how
15:13does the, the, they're a very safe community.
15:15How does that like manifest?
15:16I think like, it's a lot of, in terms of like, the way that they grow their agriculture
15:24is, you know, pesticide free.
15:26They've like, had a series of trial and error of the correct way to grow these, uh, the food.
15:33Hell yeah.
15:34Um, so the food is of the highest quality because they have worked really hard and persevered
15:40through all the failures of the experiment to give the best possible, um, nutrients.
15:46I love it.
15:47It's a, it's a big toxic swamp.
15:49You gotta be safety first.
15:51And you got all these bugs.
15:53Uh, and, uh, if you're using pesticides, you're killing your food cause you eat bugs.
15:57Those are pests.
15:58Um, uh, love that.
16:00I like that.
16:01You don't grow food, you grow soil.
16:03Wow.
16:03I love that.
16:05Incredible.
16:05As a matter of fact, I want to say that there is a rule where you can't bring pesticides
16:10any sort of, like that is, you leave that at the door.
16:13Leave it at the door.
16:14I love it.
16:14Or the D outside.
16:16I love it.
16:17Uh, what do we roll over here?
16:1814, 13.
16:1913.
16:1913 as well.
16:20Ooh, sure.
16:21You can go first, I'll go after you.
16:22I have two ideas.
16:23Oh, okay.
16:24Pfft.
16:25Rag.
16:25Um, good, I just had one.
16:28Um, I'll go to the next one down.
16:30So for the D12, we'll give it to Charm cause they're making food, they're nourishing the
16:34people.
16:35I love that.
16:37Um, good food.
16:39What's something that's like charming, it's like a very harmonious place.
16:41What's something that's really like harmonious about them?
16:43Um, oh, so they're all working and cooking.
16:48Maybe it's sort of like, uh, the, uh, the, the snow white dwarves.
16:53Um, they got a song they all sing as they, as they cook.
16:57I love it.
16:58This is like the anti the bear, like cooking place.
17:02We are charming.
17:03We are safe.
17:04No one's throwing a dish here.
17:07No, no, no.
17:08And it's very hi ho.
17:10I love that.
17:12Yeah, they sing actually just that song.
17:14They don't do the hi ho, they do the Mary Poppins song.
17:19Uh, you're on a Mayor Poppins kick today.
17:22Mayor Poppins, if you will.
17:23Mayor Poppins.
17:24Please call me Mayor Poppins.
17:26Mayor Poppins.
17:27Uh, beautiful.
17:28Allie, what you got for me?
17:29Okay, I think I'm gonna go for the D4 and I'm gonna assign that to warmth.
17:36Mmm.
17:37Oh shit.
17:39I think that warmth is about kind of like long term meaningful connection.
17:45Mm-hmm.
17:46And even though they have that or they're like striving towards that, I do think like,
17:50you kind of like come in and get food.
17:53They're like service industry style.
17:55Like it's like, it's, you're never, you're not really gonna like meet someone while they're
18:00at work and actually, it's like-
18:03It's like the mask of customer service.
18:05Give your number to someone while they're at work.
18:07Cause they might be like, thank you.
18:08But you're like, no, they were fucking at work.
18:10They had to be polite.
18:11Yeah.
18:11You're not gonna get a real answer out of that.
18:13So, wow.
18:14The Rock Club is a place with a lot of charm, but not as much warmth.
18:17It's all, it's, ugh, that's tough.
18:19Yeah.
18:20Presentational.
18:21All presentational.
18:23Like the heart might be there, but they're just trying to do so much.
18:25You can't actually expect yourself to have a hundred percent connection with that much turnover.
18:31Being vulnerable means showing your ugly side and being charming means never showing your ugly side.
18:36Baby.
18:37So that's tough.
18:38That's really tough.
18:39Tough.
18:40What's the detailed concern?
18:42Like what's a way like visually or physically in the town that that lack of like warmth manifests?
18:47I think like you would have to move quickly, but a lot of people who are smiling, if you tilted
18:56as they were turning around,
18:59you would watch the moment that the smile drops.
19:03We're dropping smiles all over the place.
19:05Or you're just like getting to the next place.
19:08Yeah, yeah.
19:08You just have to, you can't be like this all the time.
19:11That's crazy.
19:11Yeah.
19:12That's very real.
19:13That's very, very real.
19:15Incredible.
19:16Like a waiter.
19:17Have you ever done that?
19:18Yeah.
19:18A hundred percent.
19:19You're like, okay, be right back.
19:20And we got a 10.
19:21Yeah.
19:22Okay.
19:22So my thought is for the 20, was it resilience or determination?
19:27It was resilience.
19:28Okay, fantastic.
19:31You're playing one out the window.
19:33Amazing.
19:34No, I love that.
19:34Fantastic.
19:35I'm recalibrated.
19:36I love that.
19:36No, I love that.
19:37Okay.
19:38And so then for me, when I was, okay.
19:41Really?
19:42Through them all.
19:43Well, this way you can dub the voice.
19:44Okay.
19:45That's nice.
19:46For the eight, then I think let's go creativity, which its value brings joy.
19:51And I think, again, it's like joy being sort of like, I think often gets viewed as like a, not
20:01a need, but a, like a want.
20:04And I think this is probably a community where like, you're so responsible for like people eating or not eating.
20:10So like happiness is something that I guess like happens, like creativity, joy is something that happens like if you're
20:16lucky, but it's not necessarily viewed as like a, a need to survive.
20:21It's such a necessity that things that like bring excess value to life, like art or something, it's, it's very
20:29hard to be like, what could be more important than feeding people?
20:32Yeah.
20:32Yeah.
20:33I love that.
20:34And so I think the product of that is that, uh, there is like the same three paintings in a
20:39different color scheme everywhere.
20:41Oh, Airbnb style.
20:42Yeah.
20:43It's like one is a landscape, one is like kind of like a portrait, and then one is like the
20:49water, whatever this version of like water lilies is.
20:53Yeah.
20:53You see the first one, you're like, oh, that's pretty nice.
20:55And you see the second one, you're like, oh, I guess they're kind of everywhere.
20:57So they're kind of everywhere.
20:58And the third one is confirmation.
21:00You saw the first one and you bought the postcard of it because you're like, this is so cool.
21:03And then you realize, oh no, it's like, that's not special.
21:04This is everywhere.
21:07Absolutely brutal.
21:08Uh, incredible.
21:09Uh, uh, and then we have, uh, Zach and Jacob and I think we, what did you, what did you
21:12roll?
21:12I rolled an eight.
21:14Two.
21:14Uh, Jacob, go ahead and, uh, give us either the D10 or the D6.
21:18So the second lowest or one of the three highest.
21:23Um, I think for the D6, we're like basically between awareness and determination.
21:30Yeah.
21:30Probably awareness is really low.
21:32Yeah.
21:32They're, they're, they're overworked, overworked, underpaid.
21:37Uh, I love it.
21:38And I feel like their, their work ethic is high cause they know they, the importance of
21:42the food they got to turn it out.
21:43So I feel like determination might be a little, a little more pumped than that.
21:46Yeah.
21:47Hell yeah.
21:48Um, uh, what's, what's a way that that manifests?
21:50Like what is a way that with that D6 in awareness, what is some way that they're like,
21:55that confusion is running amok in this place?
21:59Maybe it's like everybody has like a second shift.
22:02Yeah.
22:02It's like once they get off, they like go to their second job.
22:05It's just a, it is a place of sleep deprivation.
22:07Yeah.
22:07This is everyone here is fucking addled.
22:09Yeah.
22:10Um, I love it.
22:13Uh, and Zach for our D10, if you can give me a detail about that, what does it mean for
22:18their D10 in determination, which is obviously is cooperation.
22:21Cooperation and D10, I think it's like, D10 feels pretty solidly in the middle.
22:28Yeah.
22:29Um, I just feel like it kind of keeps plugging away.
22:33Like it's, uh, it's consistently moving.
22:36The gondolas keep going.
22:39Um, I, I think like there's not, there's not a pep in the step, but there's also not
22:44a just complete lack of momentum.
22:47Um, without, uh, with very little warmth or awareness.
22:52This is a, I think when we open on our next chapter in the rot glob encampment of the
23:00Gladlands, you will see a charming, vibrant encampment, uh, with a song in their heart and knuckles
23:10white as bone hanging on to the biggest responsibility the Gladlands has to offer.
23:17Yeah.
23:18I'm glad they're pros.
23:19It is the bear, but it's if it was for a vegan restaurant.
23:23Poor guys.
23:24And that's all for Adventuring Party!
23:27You got it!
23:28You got the button!
23:29You got it!
23:30Oh damn it!
23:31Now I have the button!
23:33Oh!
23:34And now she has the button!
23:35Oh shit!
23:37That's really good.
23:38A bouquet of tea.
23:40Thank you for watching Adventuring Party.
23:41Dimension 20, Gladlands.
