00:02An East London council has misused £2 million of government grant. Barking and Dagenham
00:09council misused almost all of the government grant funding, councillors have been told.
00:13The grant from the Department of Health and Social Care is supposed to be spent on improving
00:18public health, but the council discovered that a number of its departments had used
00:24the money for other purposes. Senior Labour councillor Maureen Warby, the council's
00:30cabinet member for health, said the discovery was made during a review of public health
00:34spending and had come as a shock. Councillor Warby said the government was reassured that
00:40none of the misspending had been deliberate.
