00:00Joe Klecko, one of the legendary players in New York Jets history, was just recently inducted into the Pro Football
00:07Hall of Fame.
00:08A former teammate of mine, Nate Nguyen, Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, and of course, the former Heisman Trophy winner, Billy
00:14Cannon, who were pardoned by the president of the United States.
00:18You know, I was asked the question earlier this week, how did I feel about those guys being pardoned with
00:23legal issues?
00:24Let me go there with Nate Newton.
00:26I was a teammate of Nate Newton's in Dallas, and I will tell you, Nate Newton is one of the
00:30absolutely greatest people that I've ever been around.
00:34Folks, sometimes good people make mistakes, and Nate was one of those guys.
00:40He's a six-time Pro Bowler.
00:42He belongs in Pro Football's Hall of Fame, and I'm glad to see the president give an opportunity for people
00:48to be forgiven for some of their indiscretions here.
00:51Joe Klecko, one of the greatest football players to ever play.
00:56As I said, was just recently inducted into the Hall of Fame.
00:59Hell, I wore 73 in high school in honor of the guy when I was at Stanford Catholic in Connecticut
01:04because I thought the guy was such a great player.
01:07I had a chance to meet him.
01:09I had a chance to talk with him.
01:10There were some issues in his past with tax evasion.
01:14The president came in and gave these men an opportunity to clear their resumes.
01:19Absolutely fantastic.
01:21Folks, you know, one of the things that I hate that we have going on in society today is that
01:27we are just sometimes selective forgiveness.
01:30That means that we pick and choose who we want to forgive and who we don't want to forgive.
01:34I believe in second-chance opportunities.
01:37I'm a prime example of that.
01:39Sitting here with you right now, second-chance opportunities.
01:42Everybody deserves that opportunity to have a chance to go out and show mistakes are made.
01:50Guys like Klecko, guys like Nate Newton.
01:53Nate had 10 grand in his car, and he had over 150 pounds of marijuana.
01:58Okay?
01:59Was he distributing?
02:00I don't know.
02:01I just know this.
02:02My relationship with the man was absolutely awesome.
02:06I love the fact, too, that Jerry Jones, he went and he gave the news to Nate and told Nate,
02:13Nate, you have been forgiven by the president.
02:15He just pardoned you.
02:17I'm told that Nate Newton started crying, and he couldn't believe that he was given that opportunity where people would
02:23forgive him from his past because, folks, here's a Hall of Fame player.
02:27And one of the reasons that Nate Newton is not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, somebody blocked for
02:32Emmitt Smith.
02:34Somebody on that offensive line.
02:35If the Dallas Cowboys had the greatest offensive line of all time, and that's what people say the difference between
02:43Emmitt and Barry Sanders was, was that legendary offensive line.
02:47With guys like Mark Tune, guys like Nate Newton, guys like Mark Stabnoski and Crawford Curry and players like that,
02:56somebody blocked for those triplets.
02:58Somebody blocked for Troy Aikman.
03:01Somebody blocked for Michael Irvin.
03:03Somebody blocked for the legendary Emmitt Smith.
03:05One of those guys is Nate.
03:07Nate, without a doubt, was one of the most legendary players in the history of the National Football League.
03:13But this has hung over him for the longest time, and selectors, we see what goes on here with this
03:21recent selection committee on what they did with Bob Kraft and also with Bill Belichick.
03:26They hold agendas against players like this.
03:30I'm glad to see that the Hall of Fame people did not hold this, but they actually did in a
03:35way with Joe Klecko.
03:36Joe Klecko should have been put into the Pro Football Hall of Fame years ago.
03:42So, explain this one to me.
03:44So, you have the New York SAC Exchange.
03:47You have the Purple People Ears.
03:49You have Doomsday.
03:51Some of the greatest lines in the history of the National Football League.
03:55And this Jets team had one of the greatest offensive lines in history with what they were able to do
04:02with Klecko and with Gastineau and with Lions and Abdul Salam.
04:07That was an iconic defensive line.
04:11That was a line they had one time they had two players on it that had over 20 sacks in
04:17the same season.
04:18It's the only time that that has ever happened in pro football history.
04:23But yet, sometimes players like this have issues.
04:26Sometimes players make mistakes.
04:28Sometimes good people make mistakes.
04:31Man, I love that defensive line.
04:33I grew up watching that line with the Jets.
04:35And I happen to become friends with Mark Gastineau.
04:38Mark Gastineau has issues in his past, too.
04:41And here's another guy who I believe belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
04:45He's a former AOC Defensive Player of the Year.
04:49He held the SAC record for generations.
04:51He's one of the only men in the history of the National Football League in every single game that he
04:57played in, counting the playoffs, has a SAC in his name when it comes to every game that he played.
05:04Imagine that.
05:05You had a SAC in every single game you played, and that's over 100 games.
05:10There's only one other player in pro football history that has that distinction, and his name is the legendary Reggie
05:17White.
05:17So that line was iconic.
05:20Issues all over it.
05:22Gastineau's the next guy, in my opinion, that has to go into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
05:26.
