00:00Absolutely. Rick, give me a game that sticks out in your mind during your playing time, and give me the
00:06names of the guys that were on the court. It's a who's who, who were the NBA legendary players when
00:13you played in these All-Star games. Give me one that stuck out in your legendary career.
00:17Well, I have a photo of one of the game in 67 and was back in San Francisco the last
00:22time it was in San Francisco. Last year was the first time since 67 that it was actually in San
00:27Francisco. They did have one in Oakland. But I have a photograph and seven of the players in that photograph
00:33were top 50 players. I mean, we had some serious players playing. And that one would stick out because the
00:42East was loaded. A lot of great big guys.
00:46I mean, their front line was Chamberlain, Russell, and Lucas. Yeah, and we had Nate Thurman was our center who
00:55was absolutely great in that game and actually probably should have been the most valuable player. And I always felt
00:59that you should have two awards at every kind of a game like that. A most valuable player and a
01:03most outstanding player. I think I was deserving of the most outstanding player at 38 points, which was a record.
01:10But Nate was the most valuable player. But Nate was the most valuable player to us, matching up those guys
01:13and had a bunch of points and tons of rebounds.
01:16So I don't know why the NBA doesn't do that. Again, they don't listen to the things that I suggest
01:20because from a business standpoint, they're usually pretty innovative.
01:24You get another sponsor, right? You got the most valuable player and the most outstanding player award.
01:30But that game was a serious game. In fact, I'll tell you how serious it was. Red Auerbach, the only
01:35time ever, got thrown out of the game.
01:38The coach.
01:40The owner of the Celtics got thrown out of the game?
01:44Yeah, well, he was the coach of the Eastern team and he got thrown out of the game.
01:48Because why? Because it was serious.
01:50Everybody, the coaches, the players, everybody was serious.
01:54That was played as a serious basketball game with trying to win and play the best that you could play.
02:01And that just changed and it really disappointed me.
02:03And I give the NBA credit that they were trying to figure out ways to change with all these different
02:08formats.
02:09And I'm hoping that tonight, maybe this will be the way to do it.
02:14But does that mean that next year the same thing is going to happen?
02:16I don't know.
02:17But it's certainly worth giving it a try.
02:19So I'm saying a little prayer that that's the case tonight.
02:22Because otherwise, it's crazy.
02:24I mean, and the same thing with the All-Star weekend.
02:26The slam dunk has kind of run its course.
02:29You know, how many different things can you possibly do with that?
02:32And then the star players don't usually perform that.
02:35But it just shows you the only true one and makes all the sense in the world is the three
02:41-point shootout.
02:42Okay?
02:43A shooter is a shooter.
02:44So Dane came out, hadn't even played ball at all.
02:46If you can shoot, you're going to shoot.
02:48Like, I can still shoot.
02:49Okay?
02:49It's like riding a bicycle.
02:50You never forget how to do it.
02:52And so he came out and put on a nice show.
02:54And that was good.
02:54And that's the only one.
02:55I liked it when they had Steph Curry playing against the one WNBA player.
02:59That was pretty cool.
03:00I also thought the other one, a three-point shooting.
03:02They could get guys, you know, retired people or something, and different players from teams.
03:06And have that as a team competition and three-point shooting.
03:09Because it's the only true competition.
03:13Because either you can shoot it or you can't shoot it.
03:15The other stuff is crazy.
03:17The skills competition always came down to the last shot, which was a shot.
03:21And it had nothing to do with the skills, the other skills.
03:24So, yeah.
03:25I was happy to see, you know, Dave come up and show and do well in two of the great
03:29shooters.
