00:00Joe, we've been having some fun here on the early line, and we talk about like NILs and like where
00:04they're going in the future and what's going to happen.
00:06I just want to spend a little bit of time on a tweet that came out a couple days ago
00:09from Mike Rodak, and it's about Alabama athletics here.
00:12Now, we understand that football is king in this whole world of, you know, Chambliss trying to find his way
00:18and get a sixth year and get paid.
00:19It's all fine and good. But in a pay-to-play era, schools also are going to start to say,
00:24well, we're only going to support our most profitable teams and programs here, because understand this, sooner than later as
00:32well,
00:32the Alabama football team, which if we can bring up this graphic right now to show how much in control
00:37of sports they are at Alabama,
00:39they made the football team, let's call it $65 million, not in revenue, which was close to $150 million in
00:45profit.
00:45Now, you look at the men's basketball team, they made $9 million. That's perfect. They love to see that.
00:50So let's call it $73 million in profit from men's basketball and football. Every other institution of sports at the
00:58university lost money.
00:59So, Joe, let me ask you this question. Let's be honest. If the football team decided we are going to
01:05sue the university because we make $65 million in profit,
01:09but we have to spread the wealth around to other teams who make no money and let alone lose millions
01:15of dollars per year,
01:16are we closer to closer for the universities to say, we're only going to support the teams that actually make
01:22us money and we'll drop everybody else and fight Title IX?
01:28Could very well be. I mean, this kind of illustrates it right at the top.
01:33There are two main revenue streams here for which fund everything else, Donnie, right?
01:39And that's going to be football and basketball. And we have known that forever.
01:44And it's good to remind people of that. Like, listen, do you want to know why football and basketball and
01:50they get away with more than anybody else?
01:53And they're always, that's why, because the only reason you're playing women's volleyball at the University of Alabama,
02:00guess what, is because of the football and basketball teams.
02:04And that's it. Everything else is only there, Donnie, simply because football and basketball funded.
