00:00I'm Alice Park with Time and I've just left the figure skating ice dance final where there were
00:05both heartbreaking and heartwarming stories. On the heartbreak side, Americans Madison Chalk and
00:12Evan Bates, who were heavily favored to win gold, ended up with silver just one and a half points
00:19behind the French team of Laurence Fournier-Baudry and Guillaume Cizeron. The French team has been
00:26shrouded in controversy as they only recently paired up last year after they were forced to
00:33find new partners. Fournier-Baudry's ex-partner was suspended from the sport after being accused of
00:40sexual assault, though that suspension was overturned on jurisdictional grounds in 2025.
00:46But Fournier-Baudry had already begun her new partnership with Cizeron and Cizeron's ex-partner
00:52recently released a book in which she accused him of being domineering and controlling and not
01:00treating her as an equal in the relationship. Both of the ex-partners have denied the allegations.
01:05And on the heartwarming side, Canadians Piper Gillis and Paul Poirier earned bronze,
01:12their first Olympic medal after several Olympic Games. Gillis is a cancer survivor,
01:17and their free program tonight was dedicated to her mother, who also had cancer and unfortunately
01:24passed away several years ago.
