We know it’s a southern tradition at this point, but stop putting paprika on your deviled eggs! In this video, Josh explains why there are much better topping alternatives for the beloved southern appetizer. From bacon bits to pickled onions, these toppings offer much more variety and flavor to a traditional deviled egg tray.

00:02It's time to stop putting this dusty ingredient on your deviled eggs.
00:05She put paprika on every deviled egg that she ever made.
00:08Garnishes were hard to come by in the 50s and 60s.
00:10I don't blame her for putting this on our deviled eggs at all,
00:12and I know a lot of us do, just because that's what our grandmothers did.
00:15But this is what I like to top my deviled eggs with.
00:17Aleppo pepper.
00:18You can't resist a pop of red in your deviled egg.
00:20This is a better pop of red than paprika.
00:21And it's a Turkish pepper that is dried in the sun.
00:24It's got actual flavor to it.
00:25It's not sweet sweet, but it's not too hot.
00:27A lot of people will be like, oh, I'll put red pepper flakes on my deviled eggs.
00:30That's too hot, Barbara.
00:31Bacon, delicious.
00:32Pickled onions, the best.
00:34Chives, so easy.
00:35A smorgasbord, whatever you want, just not paprika.
