02:46The Clippers saw some double trouble yesterday.
02:49Rockets were one of the better defensive teams in the league.
02:52Jim Jackson went into the lab.
02:53He's going to show us what the Clippers need to do tonight.
03:01Clippers basketball is brought to you by Ticketmaster.
03:03As the official ticket marketplace of the Los Angeles Clippers and the NBA,
03:08Ticketmaster gets you to the game live.
03:10And by Jack in the Box, Jack's bringing back his classic chicken supreme,
03:14now in a meal, starting at 549.
03:19When you're playing as well as Kawhi Leonard is playing,
03:22you're going to see a fair share of double teams.
03:24We saw that last night with the Rockets,
03:26and it was mixed results for the Clippers.
03:28We'd like to see that adjusted here tonight.
03:30Well, some good, some bad.
03:31But when the double team is going to approach Kawhi,
03:35especially in the half court and the center of the court, watch this.
03:38Now you have an advantage.
03:40Yannick Edenhauser has a chance to get the ball here
03:42because on that side of the court, the court is so spread open
03:46that now it's a four-on-three on the back side.
03:48This is where you've got to take advantage of the mismatch.
03:51And because the scramble defense didn't allow Reed Shepard
03:55to understand where D.J. was at, three-pointer.
03:57Back half court again.
03:59Kawhi Leonard, same kind of thing.
04:02Watch how Chris Dunn screens the middle, but this is important.
04:05The ball is going to come right into the middle of the lane.
04:08And what you have is, one, two players on the weak side
04:11that's going to occupy Kevin Durant, Jabari Smith,
04:14and then now it turns into a one-on-one opportunity
04:17for Chris Dunn in the middle.
04:18So recognize, identify, and then beat the double team.
04:21Well, they'll have plenty of opportunities here tonight.
04:24One more before the All-Star break for the Clippers.
04:27Looking to grab a win.
04:28It's Clippers Rockets next.
04:30Next.
04:30Clippers Basketball is brought to you
04:39by the Hyundai Getaway Sales Event.

05:04A long line of very productive centers.
05:08All of them All-Stars, including Alperen Shingun,
05:11who you see right there, 24 years of age,
05:13a two-time All-Star injury replacement for Steph Curry.
05:16A multitasking center for sure.
05:19We are in downtown Houston.
05:21Final game before the All-Star break.
05:23The Clippers head home, have eight days off after tonight.
05:28We'll take a look at the Western Conference standing
05:29as we get ready to pull the curtain down
05:31on the first half of the unofficial season.
05:34I've mentioned this before, I'll say it again.
05:36If you would have told us that we'd be elated to be number 10
05:39and 25 and 28 at any point in time in September or October,
05:43I would have told you something really bad has happened.
05:45Well, instead, something really good.
05:46The Clippers have rebounded after a brutal start.
05:49And he's a big reason why.
05:50John Collins, he's in the starting five.
05:52You can see the Rockets starting five.
05:54Same as yesterday, Clippers fell short in that game, 102-95.
05:58If they were just awful shooting the basketball,
06:01they may have won this game by 10 to 15 points,
06:04hoping for a better shooting performance here tonight.
06:07As we send it down to Lauren.
06:09Hey, guys.
06:10Well, addressing reporters after the trade deadline,
06:12Clippers president of basketball operations,
06:14Lawrence Frank, expressed high praise for Ty Lue.
06:17And that's a phrase that's rooted in years of mutual admiration,
06:21which brings us to tonight's player profile brought to you by Kia.
06:24And Lawrence Frank and Ty Lue's working relationship dates back to Lue's earliest days
06:28as a coach on the Celtic staff back in 2010.
06:32It was there when Frank first noticed Lue's unique ability in-game to process the action live.
06:37But his lightning-fast processing speed isn't the only thing that makes Ty Lue unique.
06:41Frank told me after the trade deadline, sometimes as a coach,
06:44especially when there are trades of some of your better players,
06:47it's easy to take the tact that this is being done to you and you become a victim.
06:51Ty does not have that mentality at all.
06:54It's, okay, this is what we have.
06:56We have enough.
06:57We're still trying to win.
06:58We still have enough talent to win.
07:00Ty's mindset is all about what do we need to do differently or better.
07:05We have seen Tyronn Lue MacGyver his way through seasons where you're missing this player.
07:12This guy's on a minute restriction.
07:13This guy's out for a week and he continues to get results for the Clippers.
07:17And I have a better appreciate or a different appreciation just because I shared a locker room with Ty.
07:23And understanding his mindset when you were here at Houston and how he evaluated his role,
07:28but more importantly, the game itself, and now he had an integral part in some of the coaching at that time as well.
07:37Well, Tom was an assistant, as you heard from Morton in Boston,
07:39and he was also an assistant for the Clippers back in 2013 and 14.
07:45Clippers missed on their first shot.
07:46Rockets have it.
07:47Again, it was 102-95.
07:49Clippers just 8 for 30 from above the yard.
07:51Houston, not a prolific three-point shooting team, but they were efficient.
07:5414 of 28 last night.
07:55Shingun inside.
07:57He had 13 of his 22 in the second half.
08:00And a difficult finish to the third quarter that really put the Clippers kind of behind the hole in momentum.
08:06Meanwhile, Kawhi Leonard goes right to the rack for the game's first bucket.
08:09Well, keep this in mind.
08:10Let's watch it.
08:11A couple things need to happen.
08:12One, right there, pace.
08:13Clippers need to pick up the pace, push the pace,
08:16because four out of five starters for Houston played 34-plus minutes.
08:22Tyra Easton played around 29, almost 30.
08:24So, let's see if those legs are ready to react.
08:28Chris Dunn with a deflection.
08:29They go inside.
08:29The Thompson elevates and puts it down to tie up the score.
08:33We're just underway.
08:34It was an interesting comeback.
08:36Great effort for the Clippers to make it interesting down the stretch.
08:39I don't know if they ever had a real shot to get back into it in terms of tying up the game.
08:44But as Jim pointed out, forced the starters to stay out there for an extended period
08:48when the Clippers kind of pulled the plug.
08:50Collins to fade away, and we're seeing that an awful lot,
08:53and we are all liking the results.
08:55I like when he gets into that mid-post.
08:57John Collins is now.
08:58He's able to use his athleticism to shoot over his opponent.
09:02Speaking of shooting over our opponent,
09:03we saw a couple of those last night from Shin Doon.
09:07Again, not the highest flyer, but you give him room to launch,
09:11he'll throw it down on you.
09:11Overall, he's just average at the rim,
09:14but he was very strong around the eye on yesterday with some big finishes.
09:18Leonard the other way.
09:20Thompson, one of the premier defenders in the NBA,
09:24tripped up by Dunn, who was kind of in the wrong place at the wrong time.
09:32Went to get John Collins inside a little back screen.
09:36You get the switch.
09:37I mean, Thompson, we know is an outstanding athlete,
09:39pushes John Collins off the block,
09:41but the two dribbles able to get to a spot and finish that.
09:47And this time, that's, you've got to call it a lot of times
09:50that it is contact below,
09:52but it's just an unfortunate situation for Chris Dunn
09:54to pick up that foul and transition.
09:57Jabari Smith, Jr., no.
09:59Rebound up for grabs, and this is the game for Houston.
10:03If you didn't join us yesterday,
10:05one of the great offensive rebounding teams,
10:08literally in NBA history.
10:09They get 40% of all offensive rebounds that's never happened
10:13in what's called the play-by-play era that dates back to 1996.
10:17They also predictably lead the league in second-chance points,
10:20and they get some right there.
10:21Well, I tell you what,
10:22outside of the first three to four minutes yesterday,
10:24when Houston had about four offensive rebounds,
10:27they only had ten, okay,
10:29for eight points.
10:30So, the Clippers overall did an outstanding job
10:33of limiting that to the Rockets.
10:36Because the Clippers did not shoot very efficiently,
10:38had a lot of opportunities for those offensive rebounds.
10:40Clippers had more than Houston, 17 to 10.
10:44Rockets out in front,
10:44currently by two, three minutes gone by.
10:46Shingun makes the read to Thompson for a second dunk of the night.
10:49And that's what makes Alprin Shingun so special,
10:54is his ability to get in the middle of the court,
10:56read the defense,
10:57and then make the correct play.
11:00Always a challenge.
11:02Double-team him.
11:03He has space.
11:04He does have the nickname Baby Jokic.
11:06We're seeing a little bit of it here.
11:08Shingun, the assist,
11:09a couple of rebounds and some nifty footwork as well.
11:12Done.
11:13Like to go to work on Thompson.
11:14Houston, up, under, sideways, and around two to shoot.
11:17Heaves it up ahead of the horn.
11:18Did well to get off this shot,
11:19but Clippers kind of handcuffed right there
11:22on that possession as they trail by four.
11:27Easton makes the extra pass to an open.
11:29Smith for three.
11:31It's good.
11:32And it's an 11 to four start for Houston.
11:35And that's why the middle pick and roll
11:36with Shingun and Durant is so difficult.
11:39Shingun rolling to the basket,
11:41opened up the two-on-one to the weak side.
11:43Dunn for three.
11:45He puts it down.
11:46The first three to within four.
11:48It's just eight main threes yesterday for the Clippers.
11:53It's a little hard to win in this day and age
11:55with less than ten threes a game.
11:59Smith hit two threes in the first quarter.
12:01Misses badly there.
12:02Thompson sends it outside to Easton,
12:04one of the league's premier three-point shooters.
12:06Broadcasters jinxed in place, misses everything.
12:09And that should be over and back.
12:11Indeed, it is.
12:12That ball never hit iron.
12:13And that never hit a Clipper player.
12:16Well, make Houston pay for the double team up top.
12:20Get it out quick.
12:21Make a decision.
12:21The ball is out.
12:23Now Chris Dunn finds himself wide open for three.
12:27You know, a lot of teams try to stay away from double teaming
12:31in the middle of the court
12:32because it just opens up space
12:34on the weak side,
12:37which it did for the Clippers on that play.
12:38Leonard in traffic.
12:41Leonard in traffic.
12:42He hesitates.
12:43Very patient, but it rolls off the rim.
12:45And Leonard one for four to open up the first trail.
12:4811-7.
12:497-24 to play in the first quarter.
12:51Final game between these two in the regular season.
12:57Shen Goon to Durant for the catch-and-shoot three.
13:04Jones in transition.
13:05Goes right at Shen Goon and lays it in strong drive
13:09by Garrett Jones Jr.
13:10Clippers maybe not having their fastball,
13:12but they only trail by two.
13:13Yeah, and that transition basket talked about it.
13:15Can you beat this Houston team back?
13:17But first, you got to finish your defense
13:18by getting the rebound.
13:20Now that led to a fast break 5-0 run for the Clippers.
13:24And Jabari Smith slinks his way into the rim.
13:275-2.
13:306-43 to play in the first quarter.
13:3213-9 Houston.
13:33It was never led by more than four yesterday,
13:37and it wasn't a double-digit lead for Houston
13:39until the fourth quarter.
13:40Lopez, a corner three, holds the finish
13:43and likes the results.
13:44Hey!
13:50Clippers, 5-9 Houston, 6-12.
13:56Not sure the Clippers ever shot over 50% yesterday
14:00at any point in time.
14:01Thompson drives and dishes to Eason.
14:03Assaults the paint.
14:04Hangs and bangs and lays it in off the window.
14:06Strong drive by Eason.
14:13Leonard goes to work.
14:15The double comes from Durant.
14:16And a pass I've never seen attempted before.
14:21It takes a lot of talent to hit that.
14:23You know that, right?
14:24It takes a lot of talent.
14:26But this is a lot of talent, too, here in transition.
14:28DJ able to get right by.
14:30Jengu for that basket.
14:32More fast breaks, more opportunities
14:34could be in the favor of the Clippers.
14:35A lineup that hadn't played a minute together.
14:38But in their last 56 minutes,
14:40which goes back to last Friday,
14:42they've done a decent job defensively.
14:44And you can see by comparison, now it's a...
14:47I don't even want to call it a small sample size,
14:49but it's just out there.
14:50They've been able to come together
14:52as Benedict Matherin makes an early appearance.
14:57Kawhi Leonard takes a sit with six minutes played so far.
15:00You can see the difference in the first 26 games
15:04in the last 27.
15:06You know, it's interesting.
15:07After the win in December,
15:09on the 23rd against Houston,
15:12Ima Yudoka said, like,
15:14look, the Clippers aren't really a team that plays hard.
15:17We don't think they play all that hard,
15:18and they played harder than us tonight.
15:20And I think that was one of the turning points.
15:22I don't think what he said was inaccurate at that time.
15:24Clippers had improved to then,
15:26I believe it was 8 and 21.
15:28They've had the rest of the NBA in their rearview mirror ever since.
15:31And I think playing hard and finding that competitive spirit,
15:34as we've talked about,
15:35has been one of the biggest turnarounds for the Clippers.
15:40Durant.
15:42And it's intercepted by Collins.
15:44The runway is clear.
15:45And a nice little casual over-the-head stuff.
15:49But that point he talked about,
15:51Ima Yudoka was correct.
15:54And it was reflected in
15:55the defensive side of the ball for the Clippers.
15:59And once they changed the mentality and attitude to play harder,
16:03the result was a more potent defense.
16:06Like that right there, Niederhauser inside.
16:08Offensive rebound number five.
16:10But that's where things turn too from the defensive perspective
16:15with more energy and effort.
16:16I actually asked Emei about it yesterday.
16:19Do you notice a difference?
16:20He said it's night and day from where they were
16:22when we played them in December to where they are right now.
16:26And the record would indicate that.
16:27Jones, they're straight on three.
16:28It is good for Derek Jones.
16:30And the Clippers tied up here at 17.
16:32All-sale changes here for Houston.
16:41Durant and Aston are out there.
16:43But Shepard has checked in.
16:44Came off the bench.
16:45Got a good double figures yesterday for Houston.
16:49Jay Sean Tate, who did not play yesterday,
16:52is out there.
16:53He is number eight on your screen for Houston.
16:57And, of course, Clint Capella
16:58in his second stint with the Rockets.
17:01Seven to shoot for the Clippers.
17:03Here is Collins.
17:04Attacks on Durant.
17:07Leaves it short.
17:08And Capella the rebound.
17:11Durant in attack mode.
17:13Contact, no whistle.
17:15Dunn has it.
17:15Sends it ahead to Matherin.
17:19Open is Matherin.
17:20The pump fake.
17:21Wide open now.
17:22The three.
17:23It's good for Benedict Matherin.
17:26Tough shooting night for him yesterday,
17:27but did do a lot of other things
17:30to keep the Clippers around.
17:31He ties up the score at 20.
17:34Rhythm shot.
17:34Kind of found that a little bit more
17:36in the second half.
17:39Offensively.
17:40Kevin lost that one.
17:44Matherin, a 37% three-point shooter
17:47this year with Indiana.
17:49The advance pass up front
17:51forces the Houston defense
17:52to flatten out in Matherin.
17:54Take your time.
17:55Line it up and let it go.
17:57Two for five in the second half
17:59yesterday after going one for eight
18:01in the first.
18:02So, trying to find his rhythm.
18:06Seven rebounds, four assists,
18:07three steals in 26 minutes
18:09off the bench.
18:11Jordan Miller is out there
18:12for the Clippers.
18:19Matherin with eight to shoot.
18:22Sets the screen for Miller.
18:24Guys, a nice pass inside to Collins.
18:26Intercepted by Tate.
18:28Gets it ahead to Shepard.
18:29What a save by Jones.
18:32In that effort,
18:33we talked about getting back
18:34on defense after a turnover.
18:37Collins, the catch-and-shoot three.
18:41And Capella with a one-on rebound
18:43fending off the rookie Niederhauser.
18:44Yeah, this crew that's in now
18:46should play fast.
18:47The ball should be moving.
18:48A lot of energy on the defensive end.
18:52I mean, Thompson knocks down
18:53the jump shot.
18:54A rarity outside the paint.
18:56He puts Houston out in front
18:57by two with 2.49 to play.
18:59Timeout.
19:00We take it with him.
19:05The Clippers on this road trip
19:06Benedict Matherin told me
19:07that as a Clipper,
19:08he wants to be known
19:09as a two-way player.
19:10Scoring, sure,
19:11but also never backing down
19:12from a defensive assignment.
19:14As it's time now
19:15for Prime Fast Free Delivery.
19:17And Matherin took on
19:18both challenges last night.
19:20Offensive and defensive
19:21in the opener of this back-to-back.
19:23Scoring nine points off the bench
19:24and grabbing a bench-high
19:25seven rebounds
19:25and a bench-high
19:26three steals, too.
19:27So I asked Ty Lue pregame
19:29how he hopes to see
19:30Matherin's defense continue to develop.
19:32And he said we saw
19:32some good signs last night
19:33in Matherin's debut.
19:35Lue said his energy was good.
19:36He did a strong job
19:37staying in front of Reed Shepard.
19:39And he embraced the challenge
19:41of guarding Kevin Durant,
19:42which is a tough assignment
19:43for any defender.
19:45And a coach loves to see
19:46a young player
19:46take it on fearlessly.
19:49I'm really excited.
19:50Players that have
19:51a high compete motor
19:53are ones that I really enjoy.
19:54And all the things you read
19:56about Benedict Matherin
19:57is that he is exactly that.
19:58Two and a half to play
19:59in this first quarter.
20:00The first trail by two.
20:02Pass a little too strong
20:03for Collins.
20:04It goes off his fingertips
20:05and out of bounds.
20:07And it is the fourth turnover
20:08here for the Clippers.
20:14Do you like good news, Jim?
20:16Tell me.
20:16I always love good news.
20:17Only one foul
20:19in this entire first quarter.
20:20How about that?
20:21So, base.
20:24Right on cue.
20:25How about that?
20:27So, either
20:29you're not playing defense
20:32both teams
20:33or they're just really good
20:35at playing defense
20:35and not getting called for fouls.
20:37Which one is it?
20:37Or can it be a combination of both?
20:39Well, I do enjoy it
20:40when you say
20:41two things can be true
20:42at the same time.
20:42I'm going to throw in
20:43a third option
20:44and that is that
20:44the officiating crew
20:46has plans in common tomorrow.
20:47So, they got an early flight.
20:49They're trying to get
20:50on their break, too, right?
20:52Jabari Smith at the line
20:53with the Rockets
20:54out at the front by two.
20:55We get a quick word
20:55from Experian.
20:57The Experian app.
20:59Helps save you time
21:00and money.
21:00Get the app
21:01from your BFF.
21:02Experian.
21:02You know, I never
21:08we always talk about
21:10players, coaches
21:11are ready for the
21:12All-Star break.
21:14Rarely do we mention
21:14the officials
21:15who already have
21:17their plans.
21:19You know what I mean?
21:20I mean, they're already here
21:21in South Texas.
21:23It's not a lot.
21:24Maybe they're going
21:24to the Padre Islands.
21:26That's still a thing.
21:28Is that by San Diego?
21:30No, no, no.
21:30It's like right off the coast here.
21:31You missed it.
21:33Padre.
21:34Come on, man.
21:35You tapped out, too.
21:37You ready to go, too.
21:38You ready to go, too.
21:4024-20.
21:42Houston out in front.
21:44Matherin.
21:45Five to shoot.
21:46Unloads a three.
21:49Smith, the rebound.
21:50Inside of two minutes
21:51to play.
21:53The Blues open up
21:54the post-All-Star break
21:55at home
21:56against the Denver Nuggets.
21:58They go on the
21:58quote-unquote road
21:59to downtown Los Angeles
22:00to take on the
22:01Lakers the following night.
22:02Deflection, but
22:03no possession is had.
22:05Shot clock winding down.
22:06Smith, the straight-on three.
22:08He's uncovered.
22:09And he puts Houston
22:10out in front by seven.
22:14Matches their largest lead.
22:15They led 11-4.
22:18They're able to battle back.
22:19Tie it up.
22:20127 remains
22:21in this first quarter.
22:22And a zone defense right here
22:26employed by the Rockets.
22:29Good look right there.
22:30Sometimes it probably
22:31has to be thrown
22:32at the rim.
22:33And Matherin
22:34will figure that one out
22:36with Niederhauser
22:37right there.
22:38Instead of the bounce pass
22:39to the knees,
22:41you want to throw that up,
22:42especially when Capella
22:43comes off the baseline.
22:44done.
22:53Reflection by
22:56Shepard goes out of bounds,
22:58but the Clippers
22:58in the corner here.
23:001.1 on the shot clock.
23:02They added a three-tenths
23:09of a second.
23:13Miller gets it up.
23:15And it was blocked by Capella.
23:16And the ball goes back
23:17to Houston.
23:19Right now,
23:20the Rockets 12-3
23:22rebound margin
23:23here in this first quarter.
23:28You know,
23:29Udoka,
23:29his first year
23:30on the sidelines
23:30with the Celtics,
23:31got him all
23:32all the way
23:32to the NBA Finals.
23:33Shepard fires a three.
23:35This is his third season
23:36with the Rockets.
23:37He has turned
23:39this culture around
23:40in a big, big way.
23:43He is,
23:43if there's an old-school
23:44coach in the league,
23:45I would imagine
23:46that he would lead
23:47the list
23:47for kind of
23:48that old-school mentality
23:49tells you the way it is
23:51in no uncertain terms.
23:53Niederhauser
23:54can't convert.
23:5541 seconds
23:56to play in the quarter,
23:57a two-for-one opportunity
23:59for Houston.
24:01Shepard,
24:01good defense
24:05by Sanders
24:05forces the turnover.
24:08They'll take it
24:09all the way,
24:10a whistle
24:10and a foul,
24:11and when he talked
24:12to the coaches
24:12post-game
24:13yesterday,
24:15it was fast-break
24:16opportunities
24:17that they missed,
24:18and a lot of points
24:19kind of left
24:20on the board.
24:24And that was excellent
24:24defense.
24:25And why it was
24:25with Kobe Sanders,
24:26he got on the top side
24:28of Jabari Smith,
24:30and there's something
24:30about...
24:31He's old-school
24:32and he's tough,
24:33but I'm telling you,
24:34and what you don't see
24:35there are the shoes.
24:36They were pink as well.
24:37He gets it 10 at big.
24:39Confident people.
24:40That's right.
24:4110 out of 10.
24:42See, the other day,
24:43didn't you have pink
24:44in your pocket square?
24:46Confident men.
24:47Polka dot tied
24:48with your pink in it.
24:49That's right.
24:50And I had hula girls
24:52lining my suit, too.
24:53Who is
24:54from old-school TV
24:56using that word
24:58one of the most famous
24:59people to use that word
25:02as a name
25:03in a sitcom?
25:05What is the word?
25:07Pink.
25:08I don't know that one.
25:09Pinky Tuscadero.
25:10Come on, man.
25:11Happy days.
25:12I don't know that one.
25:14Who knows?
25:15That was just before my time.
25:17No, it knows not.
25:18It absolutely was.
25:20How do you not know
25:20Pinky Tuscadero?
25:24I mean,
25:25I'll get some more
25:26fun facts for you.
25:27That was classic.
25:30Well,
25:31this is right here
25:32in the first quarter.
25:33We're looking for
25:33some happy days here
25:35in Houston
25:35to pretend to go in
25:36a little bit of momentum
25:37on the way down.
25:39Count that one
25:39for
25:40Shen Goon.
25:45Plenty of time
25:46here for Miller.
25:48Two to shoot.
25:49Gets to the rim.
25:51The finish.
25:52It'll be a photo finish.
25:53They initially wipe it away.
25:55I think it's awful close
25:56and a tough one to call.
25:58Nevertheless,
25:58if it stands right now,
26:00Sippers in the first quarter
26:01trailing by seven.
26:0329 to 22.
26:05One in the books
26:07on the tail end
26:07of a back-to-back
26:08in Houston.
26:10Second quarter
26:10comes up after this.
26:17Fortunately,
26:18a couple of nights ago
26:19it was fight night
26:20in the NBA
26:21and a tough scene
26:22in Charlotte
26:24and suspensions
26:25were doled out.
26:26You see the biggest one
26:27going to Isaiah Stewart
26:29and a Jalen Dern
26:30missing a couple of games.
26:31Moussa Diabate,
26:32Miles Bridges there.
26:34Don't love to see it.
26:36Nope.
26:37And I think the suspensions...
26:39What was the story
26:40you told me about
26:41when Stewart went off
26:42the court
26:42and what did he say?
26:44Well, if there's a fight,
26:45why'd you bring me to Detroit
26:46if I'm not going to...
26:47Something to that effect.
26:48I mean, he's...
26:49I'm a big fan.
26:50I'm a big fan
26:51of beef stew.
26:52Josh Akogi is out there
26:54for Houston.
26:54Did not play last night.
26:56Has played well
26:56this year for Houston.
26:58Shepard,
26:59a gifted shooter,
27:00knocks down the tray
27:01and now it's a 10-point lead
27:03for Houston.
27:04The other way,
27:05it's Miller
27:06and he lays it in.
27:08The first trim that lead
27:0932 to 24.
27:11The first shooting 45%,
27:13but it's 59%
27:16for Houston.
27:17Defense just a rumor
27:18right now
27:18for the Clippers.
27:19Shen Goon
27:20drives in on Lopez.
27:22Defense not as impactful
27:24as it was
27:25the first half.
27:26Not a lot of deflection steals.
27:30Giving up some shots
27:31to the Rockets,
27:33so they dig a little bit deeper,
27:35communicate a little bit more.
27:37A little bit more pressure
27:38on this Rockets offense.
27:41Shepard gives to Shen Goon
27:43for the three.
27:44A couple of them last night.
27:46Leonard back out there
27:47after playing six minutes
27:48in that first quarter.
27:50He controls.
27:52Sanders was ready
27:53for the ball.
27:53Struggled shooting the ball yesterday.
27:55Let's see what he can do
27:56here tonight
27:57as he goes to work
27:58on Shepard.
27:59Get to the rim.
27:59Blocked by Shen Goon.
28:03He's trying to take advantage
28:04of the height advantage
28:05over Shepard.
28:06Shen Goon the other way.
28:07A bit out of control.
28:08Recovers with the offensive rebound
28:09and shoves it back in.
28:12Six offensive rebounds here
28:13in his first half
28:14with still 10 and a half
28:15to play for Houston.
28:16Yeah, I thought
28:17the move initially,
28:19the contact back
28:20Lopez up by Shen Goon
28:22allowing him
28:22to get that offensive rebound.
28:24Matherin leaves it long.
28:26Rockets by 10.
28:27Matherin goes under the screen.
28:37That leaves Shepard open
28:38and he knocks down
28:39yet another Trey.
28:40Shepard now with nine
28:42and he is three for four
28:43from distance.
28:44And that's what makes
28:45Shepard so tough
28:46if he's the primary ball handler
28:49is his ability
28:49on the pick and roll.
28:50Now defensively,
28:51he's getting active.
28:52Is that if he dribbled,
28:54if he hands it off
28:54and now runs off a string,
28:56you gotta get over.
28:56If the pick and roll comes,
28:58now you have to get
28:58over the top
28:59to force him off the line.
29:00Now watch Matherin right here.
29:02You're gonna wait.
29:03Maybe he was anticipating
29:04a switch,
29:05but that little hesitation
29:06gives just enough room
29:08for Reed Shepard
29:09to catch,
29:10square up his feet
29:11and launch it
29:12and knock it in.
29:15Shepard's a third pick
29:16in the 2024 draft.
29:18Didn't play a ton
29:19in his rookie year,
29:21but they were very high on him.
29:22He's starting to get some minutes.
29:23Averages 12 off the bench
29:24for Houston.
29:25Lopez late at the clock.
29:27Drives on a Kogi.
29:29I'll tell you,
29:29we have seen some
29:30interesting drives
29:32from Brooke Lopez
29:33that have netted buckets.
29:34That one would fall
29:35under that category.
29:37Brings the Clippers
29:37to within 11.
29:39A lot of pirouettes
29:40inside the lane
29:41for Brooke Lopez.
29:43Sheppard.
29:47The recovery there
29:48by Miller,
29:49but able to get off this shot.
29:51Misses wide left.
29:52Sanders the rebound.
29:53Head to Matherin.
29:55In overdrive.
29:56Bouncing off defenders.
29:57Lays it up and in.
29:58Strong drive by Matherin.
30:00And he could do that.
30:01Take a chance on him.
30:03You don't get it.
30:04That big body
30:05can get downhill
30:06and finish with the best
30:07of him inside.
30:09Two-man game
30:10with Shingun and Sheppard.
30:11Now they find the Kogi.
30:12Great.
30:13Closed out by Sanders.
30:14Oh, he put it in.
30:17They will wave it off.
30:24Time now for a drive
30:25to the hoop.
30:25Brought to you by Hyundai.
30:276'5", 210 pounds.
30:28Let's say closer to 215
30:30right here.
30:30That big body
30:31bulldozes.
30:32Josh Okoge.
30:34Going to cover it up
30:35like a running back.
30:36You're not going to
30:37knock it down
30:37and then having the touch
30:39at the end
30:40to finish it.
30:42And watch this.
30:44Kobe Sanders
30:45with the little push.
30:46Concentrate.
30:47Great shot.
30:48Give you A for effort
30:49on that one, John.
30:50On H for horse.
30:5337-28.
30:55Rockets out in front.
30:56Capella.
30:56Not much of a threat
30:57outside of the lane.
30:58Eason is.
31:00The three is short.
31:01And Miller has the rebound.
31:03The team has a heck of
31:03played by Kobe Sanders.
31:04He stopped.
31:07Capella on the drive
31:08and got back to contest
31:09a shot in the corner.
31:167-2 shoot.
31:18Miller going to work
31:19on Smith.
31:20Kind of that awkward
31:21fadeaway for Miller
31:22that is only awkward
31:24to others.
31:24He misses there.
31:25Miller.
31:26Miller 1 for 4
31:27coming off the bench
31:28in this first half.
31:29Clippers trail 37-28.
31:30Shepard this time
31:33gets downhill.
31:34Challenges Lopez
31:35high off the window
31:36and lays it in.
31:36Shepard with 11
31:37off the bench.
31:39Making the most
31:39of his minutes.
31:41Especially in this
31:42second unit.
31:42Udoka has gone deep into his
31:49bench here tonight.
31:51We talk about the heavy
31:52minutes from the starters
31:53from last night's game.
31:55So he figured Udoka would
31:57make that adjustment.
31:5810 seconds back on the shot clock.
32:09Udoka only played
32:11eight players last night.
32:12He's already gone to nine.
32:15Yeah.
32:15Eight seconds on the shot clock
32:16but he put four more seconds
32:18on the game clock.
32:2239-28.
32:27Dunn.
32:28Attached the closeout.
32:29Gets to the rim.
32:30What a play.
32:30Counted and a foul.
32:31Strong drive by Dunn.
32:33And you know Chris
32:35recognized too that the
32:37closeout was going to be
32:38hard and fast.
32:40He read the defense.
32:43Jabari Smith you got to
32:44read the scouting report.
32:45You know that you want to
32:46close out a little bit
32:47shorter to Chris Dunn.
32:49Force him at the shoot
32:49it over the top.
32:50But Chris smartly put it
32:51on the deck.
32:52Deck attacked it.
32:54Able to concentrate that
32:55layup in.
32:57Ty Lue last night was
32:58wondering why he hasn't
33:00been named to an all
33:01defensive team or
33:02in consideration for
33:03those awards.
33:05But you've got to play
33:06a certain amount of
33:07minutes in a certain
33:08amount of games.
33:08So you've got to play
33:0920 plus minutes in 65
33:12games.
33:13And last year Dunn
33:14didn't do that.
33:14They were managing an
33:15injury from time to time.
33:17Well this year he's
33:18at around 50 games.
33:20He has a real shot to be
33:21considered in terms of
33:23the qualifications.
33:24If he is qualified he
33:25will get heavy, heavy
33:26consideration.
33:28Well I see.
33:29I see why he's
33:29shitting.
33:30Oh my goodness.
33:31Reed Shepard.
33:32Coming out of college
33:36that was his forte.
33:37Being able to shoot
33:38whether it was
33:38catching a shooter off
33:39the dribble right now.
33:41Shepard is putting on
33:42the show behind the
33:43three-point line.
33:46You know just every
33:47night you know just
33:48you know taking on the
33:49challenge of guarding the
33:50best player and it's
33:52incredible he hasn't been
33:52on all defensive team
33:53already before.
33:54Like it's crazy.
33:55Like if we don't make it
33:56this year we gotta you
33:57know something's gotta
33:59happen like it's I mean
34:00it's unbelievable and
34:01you know you go from
34:02guarding marketing to
34:03you know Jamal Murray to
34:05you know you know Kevin
34:07Durant and it just don't
34:08matter like he just takes
34:09on the challenge.
34:11That was Ty Lue talking
34:13to Brian Seaman about
34:13Chris Dunn last night
34:14and pregame I read that
34:16quote to Chris and he
34:17said that's really special
34:19coming from a head coach
34:20especially one like Ty who
34:21played on this stage too.
34:24Chris added the defense
34:24isn't always as appreciated
34:26as offense is to so so
34:28to have found a home
34:29with the Clippers where
34:30defense means so much
34:31means so much to him.
34:33It is valued by those
34:35who understand the game
34:36and he is certainly
34:39valued here by Clip
34:40the nation.
34:40He's alone for the three.
34:42We talk about his defense
34:43and he gives us a little
34:44bit of offense.
34:45That's his second triple
34:46brings the Clippers
34:46to within nine.
34:47He makes that shot.
34:50It really enhances what
34:52the Clippers do
34:53offensively.
34:54I do think they need
34:56to adjust that
34:57defensive mechanism
34:59that qualifies you
35:00for that award
35:02because not everybody
35:03a defensive specialist
35:04playing 20 plus minutes
35:06a game.
35:07Grant is hanging out
35:08of the Decker spot.
35:09Remember me?
35:11I don't know how you
35:12lose sight of
35:14a seven foot
35:16Hall of Famer
35:18there on the back end.
35:20The only concerning
35:21thing here that is
35:21the first bucket for Durant
35:23and yet the Rockets
35:24have led by as many
35:25as 12.
35:26Lopez with a soft
35:26little floater
35:27six and a half
35:28to play in the second
35:29quarter.
35:30It's 44-35.
35:34This is the fourth game
35:35between these two.
35:36Clippers lost the first,
35:37won the second,
35:38lost last night.
35:39A win today.
35:40They would tie the season
35:41series for whatever
35:42it is worth.
35:42I don't know if these
35:43two teams will ever be
35:44next to each other
35:46in the standings this year.
35:47Rockets come in at 33-19,
35:49Clippers at 25-28.
35:52Dunn back to Leonard,
35:53look out, lays it in
35:55and Kawhi gets his
35:56second bucket.
35:56And now, keep in mind,
35:57Chris Dunn has been a part
35:58of the last three
35:59offensive possessions
36:01that have been positive.
36:02The drive and won the
36:03three-point shot in that
36:04time.
36:05Two feet in the paint,
36:06able to drop it off to
36:07a streaky
36:08Kawhi Leonard.
36:11Dunn's plate 13 minutes.
36:12The Clippers are a plus
36:13two in those minutes.
36:15Durant tied up.
36:16Shepard, who's been the
36:17best player in a Rocket
36:18uniform so far tonight,
36:19gives it to Eason.
36:20Late at the clock,
36:21the three is good.
36:24You worked that hard
36:25for 23 and a half seconds
36:27and the hesitation by Eason
36:30because he had to put it
36:31up, now it goes in.
36:33Kickball.
36:35When we showed you
36:35that stat last night,
36:36the Rockets
36:37lead the league
36:40in terms of possessions
36:41that come down
36:42to the last tenths
36:44of a second
36:44on a shot clock.
36:47Leonard driving inside.
36:57Kawhi, 13 minutes played.
36:59He's on a minute restriction
36:59on the tail end
37:00of a back-to-back.
37:01He played six minutes
37:02in the first quarter.
37:04He didn't catch the game
37:05last night.
37:05I've asked Ty
37:06about how does he
37:08dole out those minutes.
37:09Is it always
37:10six, six, six, six?
37:12Is it seven, seven, seven,
37:13seven?
37:13He says, I'm going to go
37:14with feel
37:15and get to that number
37:16eventually.
37:18Late in the clock
37:19from Matherin.
37:20Hangs.
37:21Can't hit it.
37:22Looking for a whistle.
37:22Not going to get it.
37:23Thompson the other way.
37:24Rockets by 10.
37:31And again, just one basket
37:33for Kevin Durant.
37:34Shepard has been the
37:35offense to punch it
37:36by Matherin,
37:36recovered by Dunn.
37:40Lobbed to Collins.
37:42Dunn able to save it.
37:43Good ball movement.
37:44Now the Clippers
37:45recoil offensively.
37:47Dunn into Collins on Shepard.
37:49Leans into him
37:50off the window
37:50under Burrows.
37:52That one.
37:53So Collins rushed it
37:54probably a little bit
37:55knowing he had to
37:56mismatch and he wanted
37:57to get it up
37:57before the double team
37:58got to him.
38:02Shepard with a game-high 14
38:05gives to Eason.
38:06Seven to shoot.
38:07Back to Shepard.
38:09Durant loses the ball.
38:11Glances at the shot clock.
38:13Great defense by Jones.
38:14Great contest.
38:15It doesn't matter.
38:16Kevin Durant is doing
38:19Kevin Durant's life things.
38:22Special.
38:23I mean, that's...
38:24You can't play it
38:24any better than that.
38:27Collins blocked from behind
38:28by Capella.
38:29Rockets by 13
38:30inside of four minutes
38:32to play in the first half.
38:33Durant down the lane
38:33loses the handle.
38:35Looking for a whistle.
38:36Not going to get it.
38:37Done the other way.
38:39Matherin colliding
38:40with Capella.
38:41Blocked it.
38:41Get out of bounds.
38:43Yeah, Matherin
38:44is not going to get
38:44that foul.
38:45Based on the no-call
38:46that KD wanted.
38:48The officials kind of
38:49let this thing go
38:50a little bit.
38:51And watch KD here.
38:53I mean, this is excellent
38:54at defense by
38:55Derrick Jones Jr.
38:57And to be able to contest
38:57this without fouling.
39:02Clint Capella,
39:03even though he's retreating,
39:05he's still able to get
39:06a few fingers on that.
39:10And Dunn crosses the line.
39:12We've seen the Clippers now
39:19last night tonight.
39:19Inability to finish
39:20and transition.
39:22Some odd situations
39:23with inbounding the ball.
39:24We saw Jordan Miller
39:25inbound the ball yesterday
39:26and then...
39:27Pick it up.
39:28I think he felt that Dunn
39:29had touched it with his feet
39:31and thought it was okay
39:32to pick up,
39:32but it wasn't.
39:33And it was a proper turnover.
39:37But we play without a
39:38two-point guard.
39:40Available.
39:41Chris Dunn doing his best,
39:42takes it to the rack
39:43and jams it down.
39:44Despite all the follies
39:46we've seen here
39:46in the second quarter,
39:47it is only an 11-point lead
39:49for Houston.
39:50It feels deeper than that
39:53because of some of the plays
39:55by the Rocks,
39:56especially Reed Sheppard
39:58going off another great deal.
39:59Oh, I thought that...
40:00Oh!
40:01Brooke Lopez
40:02got a piece of that clean
40:04and they called it
40:04on Derrick Jones Jr.
40:05but I had to see this replay
40:08to see if he got him
40:09on the wrist-elbow.
40:15Well, Ty Lue says,
40:17let's chat about this.
40:18So we have our first review
40:20tonight.
40:20Rockets out in front 50 to 39.
40:24314 to play in the half.
40:30Well, Mark Davis still
40:31take a look at under the hood
40:33talking with Sikakis.
40:35We haven't had a review
40:41to review yet,
40:42but a little premature on that.
40:44We're all working on it.
40:45There's a man, Thompson.
40:46Uh-huh.
40:46So the question will be,
40:47he hits ball first
40:49but doesn't lose possession of it.
40:51I actually asked Mark Davis
40:52about this two years ago
40:54in a play that
40:54involved around Terrence Mann,
40:56and he said he'd have to see the play.
40:57So this is actually the same play.
40:59The ball is blocked.
41:00You hit the wrist,
41:01but possession was never really lost,
41:03and I think that's what
41:04they're trying to figure out.
41:05What do you say?
41:05Because it was still in his hand.
41:06Yeah.
41:07So it may be,
41:08if it's based on that,
41:10then this call will stand
41:11because it hasn't left
41:13his hand at all.
41:14So it's two shots.
41:16Upon review,
41:16it has been determined
41:17that although the defender
41:17did contact the ball first,
41:19he contacted the shooter's hand
41:20while it was still
41:21in contact with the ball.
41:23Therefore,
41:23this is an unsuccessful challenge.
41:25LA will be charged
41:26a timeout,
41:27and they have no
41:28additional challenges.
41:28Good call,
41:32Brian.
41:33See,
41:33you were a great student.
41:35You paid attention in class
41:36when you were younger.
41:37I did not.
41:37And you sat right in the front,
41:39and you answered all the,
41:41you know,
41:42questions,
41:42and see,
41:43that's,
41:43I was in the middle
41:44to the back
41:45throwing paper at people.
41:46That's what I did.
41:48I think it's at this point
41:48in time that I need to tell you
41:49I needed five years
41:50to get a journalism degree
41:52from a state school.
41:53So.
41:54Yeah.
41:54But you love college that much.
41:56You wanted to stay,
41:57you wanted to bless everybody
41:58with your presence.
41:59That's why you stayed.
42:00May or may not be
42:00an honorary degree.
42:01Meanwhile,
42:01for Mark Davis,
42:03he had poise,
42:04had some popping
42:05of the microphone,
42:07a little perspiration.
42:08I understand the call,
42:09get the call,
42:10not arguing with the call,
42:11but he's going to get
42:12a 2.1.
42:13I like Mark Davis.
42:14Very sound official.
42:16You can see the perspiration
42:17on his head.
42:18Well,
42:18I take it from a different angle
42:19because I feel like
42:20a proud father
42:21because I've seen Mark Davis
42:22grow into his role
42:24as a head official
42:25since he got in the league.
42:26I'm older.
42:27So to watch his performance
42:28now in front of a live audience
42:30and how comfortable he is,
42:33I've got to give him
42:33a 2.1 for his progression
42:35over the years.
42:36That's a good,
42:36that's a fine score.
42:37Yes.
42:38He agrees.
42:38Jones down the lane
42:40underboros,
42:41but a lot of contact
42:41inside.
42:42Now the Rockets
42:43are off and running.
42:44Chris Dunn doing it
42:45again,
42:46disrupting the break
42:47this time
42:48and slowing it up
42:49here as the men
42:50Thompson,
42:50no doubt,
42:51looking for
42:52a quick bucket
42:53in transition.
42:54This is the
42:54closeout speed
42:56you talked about
42:56with defensive backs
42:57and cornerbacks
42:58with Chris Dunn,
43:00along with his first step,
43:01has that.
43:02That's what makes
43:02him such a potent
43:03defender.
43:05Shingun,
43:07deflection by Tani's
43:08done it again.
43:10Here's Jones
43:10running the break,
43:11back to Dunn.
43:13Matherin on the baseline,
43:15giant strides,
43:16finds an open,
43:16Lopez,
43:17they swing it to Dunn,
43:18great rotation
43:19by the Rockets.
43:20Jones on the win
43:21for three,
43:22straight but strong.
43:23but Brooke Lopez
43:24turning down that shot
43:25is a transition
43:26three-point opportunity
43:28for him
43:29as the trailer
43:31put us in the tougher
43:32situation for a more
43:33contested shot.
43:34He's in the punks
43:35inside.
43:37Sometimes the shots
43:38you don't take
43:39comes back to haunt
43:40you in the offensive end.
43:42Houston's rate,
43:43Houston was able
43:43to benefit
43:44on their side
43:45of the court.
43:45Cooper's down 54-39.
43:48Matherin with Durant
43:50in his back pocket
43:51tend to shoot.
43:53Collins accelerates,
43:55creates the contact.
43:56Oh, hello!
43:57Nasty!
43:58Big finish by Collins.
44:00Yeah, and he got a
44:01elbow make
44:02got a piece of
44:03Jabari Smith
44:04right there
44:04on the bridge
44:05of his nose
44:05and leave no doubt,
44:07young fella,
44:08when you go to the basket,
44:10put the ball
44:11in whoever's in front
44:12of you right through it.
44:14Collins wincing
44:15himself here
44:16with the Clippers
44:17down 13-130
44:19to play
44:19in the second quarter.
44:21Thompson.
44:24Kevin Durant
44:24just two for five
44:25so far.
44:26That can change
44:26in a hurry.
44:27Kevin Durant
44:28three for six.
44:29See?
44:29It was inevitable,
44:31but once he made
44:32it to the baseline,
44:33I was like,
44:33Brian, let it go.
44:34Let it go.
44:34There he is.
44:37Oh, my goodness, man.
44:38I'll get a .7
44:39on that court.
44:40Okay.
44:42Lopez
44:43pretends to shoot
44:44the deep three,
44:45now on the bounce,
44:46up and under
44:47on Thompson,
44:47sends it back
44:48outside to Matherin
44:49with five to shoot.
44:51Rifles one inside
44:52to Dunn,
44:52outside to Jones,
44:53a catch-and-shoot three.
44:54It's good.
44:55Great possession,
44:56patient one
44:57by the Clippers.
44:58They trim the lead
44:58to 12.
44:59Opportunity here
45:00to get a stop or two
45:03and get this lead
45:04under or at
45:05double digits
45:05under 10
45:07if you can.
45:07You would love
45:08to go in down eight
45:09despite not playing
45:11your best basketball
45:11in the first half.
45:15Durant.
45:16This is a problem.
45:18This is wide right.
45:19Rebound goes to Matherin.
45:20Two for one opportunity.
45:21What a pass!
45:22Collins a little out
45:23in front of it.
45:24Now Matherin
45:25sidestepping defenders.
45:27Can't get it to go.
45:27A whistle.
45:28He'll go to the line
45:29and a two for one opportunity
45:30indeed here for the Clippers.
45:33A little late to never
45:34but the foul call is correct.
45:36Let's go back to this play here.
45:37John Collins,
45:38welcome to my house.
45:41Now,
45:41nowhere in Toyota Center
45:42but guess what?
45:44I'm taking all of this with me.
45:46John Collins
45:47of that bounce off
45:48two feet and
45:49Shang-Gung
45:50you can get some of the
45:51you can get some of it too.
45:56Benedict Matherin
45:57at the line.
45:58Clippers down by 12.
45:59They've trailed by
46:00as many as 15.
46:01It's the first to fall.
46:02We get a quick word
46:03from Jack in the Box.
46:05My fan favorite
46:06Chicken Supreme
46:07is back
46:08starting at 549.
46:10Welcome to Jack in the Box.
46:13Shepard checks back in
46:14for what it is worth.
46:15The Clippers have won
46:16their last four games
46:17heading into the All-Star break.
46:19Last year in Utah.
46:21Remember James Harden
46:22played 50 games
46:23two years ago.
46:24Tyloo gets ejected
46:25in Golden State.
46:26Paul George fouls out.
46:28Clippers battle back
46:28down 10.
46:30When in Phoenix
46:31they've beaten back
46:33the Rockets
46:33to start this streak.
46:34It'd be interesting to see
46:35if they can battle back here.
46:37Down 10.
46:38A stop at a score.
46:39Jim said would go a long way
46:40here for the Clippers
46:41who are giving up
46:4359%
46:45from the field.
46:47Thompson.
46:48Shepard blocked
46:49out of bounds
46:50by Jones.
46:515 to shoot
46:52for Houston.
46:55Shepard one of those
46:56problems between
46:56he and Amin Thompson.
46:58They are
46:589 for 13.
47:02Thompson a perfect
47:034 for 4.
47:045 to shoot
47:05for Houston.
47:05Shen Goon.
47:07Durant makes the pass
47:08to Smith
47:09for the catch
47:09and shoot 3.
47:11Jones has it.
47:11Plenty of time
47:12for the Clippers.
47:135 to shoot
47:14ahead to Jones.
47:18Collins beats
47:19the buzzer.
47:20Yes!
47:20What a shot!
47:22What a finish!
47:23They'll certainly
47:26review it
47:27but it'll look
47:27good from here.
47:28Clippers
47:29maybe trim
47:30that lead
47:30down to 7.
47:31And you know
47:31it's a 3 point
47:33basket
47:34no matter
47:34how you count it.
47:35Okay?
47:36If this is true
47:37it's only worth
47:383 points
47:39but it's not.
47:41The ruling on the floor
47:42is no basket
47:43however
47:43as it is
47:44scored no fourth.
47:45But
47:46I love the energy
47:47to end the second quarter
47:49for the Clippers.
47:50Brought to you by
47:51Kaiser Permanente
47:52official team
47:53positions
47:54of the L.A. Clippers
47:55and by
47:56Greg Goose
47:57official partner
47:58of the Clippers
47:58make time wait.
48:02Well
48:02an interesting
48:03first half
48:03in that the Clippers
48:04trailed by just 10.
48:05The Rockets shoot
48:0656% from the field
48:08and out rebound
48:08the Clippers
48:092 to 1
48:10and yet
48:11the Clippers
48:12were a tenth
48:12of a second
48:13away from having
48:14this be just
48:14a 7 point game
48:15at the turn
48:16as it is
48:16they are down
48:1710 with a long
48:18way to go.
48:18Time now for
48:19Better Together
48:19brought to you
48:20by Verbo.
48:21One reason the
48:21Clippers are down
48:22is the play
48:23of their youngsters.
48:24We've talked about
48:25their young roster
48:25is loaded
48:27with talent
48:27and athleticism.
48:28Reed Shepard
48:29coming off the bench
48:29he's got 14
48:31with 4 threes
48:32and Amen Thompson
48:33as gifted
48:35of an athlete
48:35as maybe this league
48:37has ever seen
48:38is playing the role
48:39of point guard
48:39now for Houston.
48:41Now those two guys
48:42have been
48:42kind of a wrecking
48:43crew for the Clippers
48:44as the Rockets
48:45put up 56 points
48:46in that first half.
48:48Now it's time
48:49for your top tier play
48:50presented by Arco
48:51and it's
48:52everybody's favorite
48:52defender Chris Dunn.
48:54So I think
48:54you made a great point
48:55we talked about
48:56Ty Lue
48:56and the league
48:58kind of not recognizing
48:59the outstanding play
49:01of Chris Dunn
49:02but individual teams
49:03and coaches do.
49:04They understand
49:05what Chris brings
49:06to the table
49:06but now
49:07he's adding
49:08the offensive component
49:09to go along
49:10with his defensive prowess
49:12which
49:12again
49:14really
49:14enhances
49:15what the Clippers
49:16want to do
49:17making a play
49:18to Kawhi
49:18not being
49:20shy
49:20when he's
49:21open to shoot
49:22using that big body
49:24at times
49:25to get two feet
49:26in the paint
49:26either score for himself
49:27or make a play
49:28and an outstanding
49:30first half
49:31you know
49:32for Chris Dunn.
49:33Shy and Chris Dunn
49:34don't tend to go
49:35on the same set
49:35as Mr. Personality
49:37in that locker room.
49:38Speaking of the locker room
49:39Lauren knows what
49:39happened in there.
49:40Lauren what down?
49:41Brian chatting
49:42with assistant coach
49:42Brian Shaw
49:43coming out of the
49:43out of the locker room.
49:44I asked him
49:44Clippers win if
49:45and he said
49:46Clippers win if
49:47we become more decisive
49:48and assertive
49:49on the offensive end.
49:51He said the Rockets
49:51are making it tough
49:52on Kawhi
49:53and when he gives
49:53the ball up
49:54the guys who receive it
49:55need to be more decisive
49:57and then Kawhi
49:58has to decide
49:59to be more active
50:00and get open
50:01once again.
50:02He said everyone
50:02primary and secondary
50:04scoring options alike
50:05can be more active
50:06here in the second half.
50:08He said he was
50:08largely happy
50:09with the defensive effort
50:11in the first half
50:11but there's no such thing
50:13as too much
50:14defensive activity.
50:15Guys.
50:15I'm surprised to hear that
50:16not that I thought
50:17that there was a lot
50:18of defensive deficiency
50:20but the Houston shot
50:2256% from the field
50:24and the Rockets
50:25have the ball
50:25to start to the second half
50:26out in front by 10
50:27and Rockets on the year
50:2822-7
50:29when they have
50:30a double-digit lead.
50:33Shingun
50:34gives to Durant
50:35a bit of a quiet
50:36first half for him.
50:37A whistle and a foul
50:38goes on.
50:40I did not learn my whistle.
50:42Listen,
50:42I'm going to go back
50:43to this.
50:43The defense wasn't bad
50:45but the Clippers
50:46gave up some backdoor cuts,
50:48the offensive rebounds
50:50so those things
50:51kind of compound
50:51into mistakes
50:54that cost them
50:55by Houston
50:56taking advantage of
50:57she just got to
50:58clean those little plays up
51:00and you could be
51:01in the position
51:01right back in this game.
51:02Five to shoot for Shep Goon
51:04pretends to shoot the three
51:05then that little
51:06flamingo jumper
51:07misses.
51:08The first half
51:09here comes Leonard
51:09the other way
51:10down by 10.
51:13Had another wrinkle
51:14in there.
51:14Yeah, Kawhi just
51:15with four points
51:16in that first half.
51:17Done.
51:19Lopez, the D3.
51:21It's short.
51:22Lopez falling back
51:24just a little bit
51:24on that shot.
51:25Left it
51:26right at the bottom
51:27front of the rim.
51:29East in the corner
51:29three for Houston.
51:30Oh, those long
51:33strong arms
51:34of Shen Goon
51:35coming away
51:35with that offensive rebound
51:36a whistle and a foul.
51:37Now, it may not
51:38look like
51:39Shen Goon is strong
51:40okay
51:41but don't get it twisted
51:43because that time
51:43he was able to hold off
51:45Brooke Lopez
51:46as this shot goes up
51:47you can see the back end
51:49right there
51:49and still get through
51:51and not only catch it
51:53but be able to go
51:55back up into his shot.
51:58I'm going to
51:59quick word
51:59from Hyundai.
52:00Enjoy your new car.
52:02Yeah, you too.
52:03Bye-bye.
52:03Deal so right
52:04it almost feels wrong.
52:05The Hyundai getaway
52:06sales event.
52:08They call that
52:09country strong
52:10don't they?
52:11Big time.
52:12Now, his country
52:13is a little bit
52:13different
52:14coming from Turkey.
52:15You know what I'm saying?
52:16That's a little bit
52:17different kind of
52:18strength right there
52:19that he's bringing
52:20to the table
52:21but
52:21it's
52:23very
52:25very simple.
52:27And it's 57-46
52:28and a lot of
52:29big statistics
52:31working against
52:32the Clippers
52:32favor yet
52:33this is not
52:34a game that is
52:35anybody
52:35by any means
52:37out of reach here
52:3810-53 to play
52:39in this third quarter
52:40we're just underway
52:41three possession
52:42totally changes
52:43this game
52:44to shut out
52:45the Rockets.
52:47Beautiful possession
52:48for the Clippers
52:49and Lopez pays it off
52:51everybody's fingerprints
52:52on the ball
52:53and it's now
52:5457-49
52:55Houston
52:56Lopez with 10
52:57and Leonard
52:59all by himself
53:01off to the races
53:02gently lays it in
53:04so a quick
53:055-0 strike
53:06for the Clippers
53:06and just like that
53:07it's a six-point game
53:08the way this game is
53:09so many possessions
53:10if you're able to shut
53:12your opponent out
53:13for consecutive
53:14offensive possessions
53:16themselves
53:17defense
53:17and I'll see you guys
53:24in the next couple
53:24of weeks
53:25on the way
53:27to the Clippers
53:27to the Clippers
53:28going into
53:28the Clippers
53:29and the Clippers
53:30are going to be
53:30going into
53:31a game
53:32where we came
53:33to you
53:34that's what
53:35the Clippers
53:35and the Clippers
53:36are going to be
53:36huge
53:36and then
53:37we're going to
53:38give you a
53:39award for the
53:39cup of
53:40and then
53:42the Clippers
