00:55So talk about the story behind the song and where the inspo for it came from.

01:00I do feel like this is evolution for the band Perry.
01:03Me as the narrator.
01:04I mean, Better Dig 2 feels like the precursor to psychological to me, but I think there's
01:10evolution in the fact that we're not trying to kill a man out here.
01:12No, we're not.
01:13We're like, are we deluded?
01:14Are we devoted?
01:16There's a fine line between the two.
01:18I do feel like, you know, it's just a very tongue in cheek, hilarious turn of a phrase.
01:23I'm talking about the girl inside of me that has always been 150% deep diving into my crushes
01:32and obsessions.
01:33I know.
01:33It's so funny because when I first heard the, like just the, or when I saw the name, I thought
01:38one thing, but then I heard the lyrics and I was like, oh, wow.
01:40I feel a theme.
01:43Right.
01:43In fact, you know, now I am married to Johnny.
01:47So my baby daddy and husband are in the band and it makes me think of the first time that
01:51I met you because I remember saying to you like 24 hours into meeting him, I was like,
01:57I'm just trying really hard to not say I love you right now.
01:59You know, like this girl.
02:02And then we love to Vegas.

02:04Eight months later.

02:08So then you guys are going to go out on the psycho rodeo tour, which is like probably one
02:13of my favorite names ever.

02:29I mean, the great love of our lives is touring live music.

02:36And there's this little on the poster that we're going to send you.
02:39It says like the most unhinged show in America, you know, and it is.
02:44I feel like we leave all of our energy in that 90 minute set every night.
02:48And it's just the great love of our lives.

02:51What are you most looking forward to about being back on the road?
02:53I think playing the blend of all the OG band Perry hits, you know, the songs that brought
03:00us to the dance in the first place and like blending them perfectly with this new body
03:05of work that we've been working on, because it feels like it makes sense to me.
03:08It feels like, you know, we've only put out two full LPs, two full albums of country music.
03:14So it definitely feels like the third installation of band Perry music.
03:18And this will be the first like fulling through you guys have gone on with the baby, right?
03:22Well, not even baby now.
03:23He's like two, almost three, right?
03:25Teenager.
03:26Oh, how's that going?
03:28Dad.
03:29He does love a bus.
03:30Okay, well, that's great.
03:31He loves a bus.
03:31He loves waving at the truck drivers.
03:32He's having a good time.
03:33No, he does.
03:34He's still like figuring out when we open the windows every morning that we're in like a
03:38different place.
03:39And it's always so funny for me to hear the commentary of like the first thing he says.
03:43He's obsessed with other, yeah, big trucks and trains.
03:46And we woke up close to some train tracks last week and he just went like choo-choo, choo-choo.
03:52Isn't it so funny how little boys come pre-programmed with like trains and trucks?
03:57Like they just all gravitate towards that.
03:59It's amazing.
04:00We just got him cars, like he can take the wheels off and put them back on with a little
04:04screwdriver.
04:05They're just so like tangible and he loves to figure out how things are put together.
04:10Oh my gosh, that is so much fun.
04:11And then you guys are also in the process of working on a new album or you've been working
04:15on this with Dan Huff.
04:17Talk about like, what can you say so far about this next body of work and next season?
04:21Dan Huff's the greatest.
04:22You know what?
04:22I got to see him speak.
04:23I'm in leadership music right now.
04:25It's like a Nashville music program and he came and spoke at it the other day and I was
04:28just like, I can't believe that's Dan Huff.
04:30I know.
04:30To be like the nicest man you've ever met and also the most talented and one human being.
04:36Dan made the Pioneer album for the band Perry, our second record with Better Dig 2 and Done.
04:42And so it was time to begin to talk about who needed to bring this body of work to life
04:47with us and he was the obvious choice.
04:49Of course.
04:50So we are about, I would say, a third of the way through recording and he's just the best.
04:56I mean, he casts always the best band.
04:58It's the most fun day and he just knows how to perfectly pull an idea.
05:03He's the liaison between us and the listener and he knows how to perfectly wear that hat
05:08and do that job.
05:09Absolutely.
05:09What other like types of songs are on here or stories are you telling that you can kind
05:13of like give fans a preview of?
05:16Well, I think it's really fun to be in a band with your husband.
05:20You know, Band Perry has always been a family band.
05:22This is our version of it with this project.
05:24And the love songs hit a little different, you know, and so right now we've been writing
05:30a lot together to get to write those and think about how we're going to bring those to life
05:33in the studio and on a video and on stage is a new element that I haven't gotten to really
05:39explore yet.
05:40So that's been really fun.
05:41I love where the love songs are headed on this.
05:43What about you?
05:43There's a little more psycho in there.
05:44Oh, yeah.
05:45There's tonally some of Better Dig 2 in there.
05:47There's a lot of good from the hits.
05:49Yeah.
05:49There's another song coming soon.

05:53I would say it reminds me, yeah, more of that like Dunn and Chainsaw vibe, you know,
05:58where they're a little bit bigger electric guitars and mandolin and overdriven instruments.
06:04So a little bit of something for everybody.
