00:00:00This raid, of course, comes as the culmination of a year-long investigation
00:00:03begun by CCNN's own senior correspondent, Kelly Faraday.
00:00:08Kelly, what can you tell us?
00:00:10Thank you, Gary. I'm Kelly Faraday, live in Woodland Hills,
00:00:13where moments ago police raided this innocent-looking office building
00:00:16in a seemingly quiet suburban industrial park
00:00:19and uncovered what may be the largest case of counterfeit vitamin and nutritional supplements
00:00:25in California history.
00:00:26I'm standing in front of the facility, which, until just this morning,
00:00:30was still manufacturing these bogus vitamins and supplements,
00:00:33many of which have already ended up on store shelves across the country,
00:00:37meaning they could be in your medicine cabinet right now.
00:00:40As you can see, police are now escorting the alleged ringleaders of this operation
00:00:44from the corporate offices of Duncroft Pharmaceuticals,
00:00:48a once-reputable nutritional supplement manufacturer.
00:00:51And your mom looked greedy on TV.
00:00:54With me now is Detective Jim Barton of the LAP.
00:00:56That's my mom.
00:00:58She's a Rottweiler.
00:00:59With mascara.
00:01:01If it were not for your persistent investigation,
00:01:04this is what's going to happen today.
00:01:06Can you hand me a hoof pick, Ruth?
00:01:07One of the most frightening aspects of this story is, of course,
00:01:09that many of us may have already been taking these counterfeit supplements
00:01:13for over a year without realizing it.
00:01:15What makes a counterfeit ring like this so dangerous
00:01:17is that none of the items produced here have ever been inspected
00:01:21nor approved by the FDA.
00:01:23So you have no idea what you're getting?
00:01:24That's right, Kelly.
00:01:26Well, today we can only hope that by bringing these criminals to justice,
00:01:29the public can breathe a little easier
00:01:30knowing that these counterfeit supplements will no longer be produced.
00:01:34Thank you, dear.
00:01:35As more details are released,
00:01:36stay tuned to CCNN and continue to check our website
00:01:39for information regarding the Duncroft Pharmaceuticals recall.
00:01:43Thank you again, Detective, for your time.
00:01:44In Woodland Hills, I'm Kelly Faraday.
00:01:46Today's the big day, huh?
00:01:56Kelly Faraday, anchorwoman, CCNN.
00:01:59You look great.
00:02:01You do.
00:02:02You look fine.
00:02:03You said I look great.
00:02:04It's about time Robert put you behind the anchor desk.
00:02:07Not so bad for an ex-husband, right?
00:02:10Shut up and get in there.
00:02:11The suspense is killing me.
00:02:12It's your day, Kelly.
00:02:13Own it.
00:02:15Hello, Joan.
00:02:16Hello, Kelly.
00:02:17Robert and I need to speak with you.
00:02:18Where is he?
00:02:22Is that Miss Ohio?
00:02:25I believe it's Iowa.
00:02:29Robert!
00:02:36Kelly!
00:02:36You're back.
00:02:40Yeah.
00:02:41So, here we all are.
00:02:44Who's first?
00:02:45I don't know how to say this.
00:02:46Yes, you do.
00:02:47Kelly, we've decided to go in a different direction.
00:02:50You mean younger.
00:02:51I never said that.
00:02:52Based on the results of a recent market survey,
00:02:54we feel she'll significantly help our ratings.
00:02:58Come on, Robert.
00:03:00Miss Ohio?
00:03:01Iowa.
00:03:02Whatever.
00:03:04Can we talk in private, please?
00:03:06Go, go.
00:03:15So, let's start again, shall we?
00:03:17How's Camilla?
00:03:19Same as always.
00:03:20Mad at the world, especially mad at you.
00:03:21Do you think you could give her a hug for me?
00:03:24Why don't you do it yourself?
00:03:25Last weekend was yours.
00:03:26You didn't show up.
00:03:27And I sent her an email.
00:03:28If you want a relationship with your daughter,
00:03:29you're going to have to do better than an email.
00:03:32Robert, I can't believe you're going to have that bimbo as an anchor.
00:03:35You've already announced that I'm going to be made anchor.
00:03:38You sent out a press release.
00:03:40I'll send out another press release.
00:03:42And don't worry, you'll be well compensated.
00:03:43She is not a journalist.
00:03:45Kelly, this is not a debate.
00:03:47The decision's been made.
00:03:55Then I quit.
00:03:56Your decision.
00:04:08You know, I'm deep into the whole I hate dad thing, but don't you think this...
00:04:11Hey, honey, here's the new ground rules.
00:04:13We're not going to talk about dad again for another year.
00:04:17Maybe two.
00:04:19Still can't believe you made that bimbo the anchor.
00:04:22Mom, Rebecca is not a bimbo.
00:04:23She's a Harvard graduate.
00:04:25Honey, don't say that.
00:04:26I need to make her the enemy.
00:04:28It's a process.
00:04:30Bella.
00:04:34Mom, why don't you go wait in the car or I'll just be a sec.
00:04:36I'm going to wait in the car.
00:04:41He, uh...
00:04:42He looked amazing.
00:04:44Good one, Dad.
00:04:46I haven't seen her like this in a while.
00:04:47Sorry about last weekend.
00:04:50I don't care about that.
00:04:52I've gotten used to you disappointing me.
00:04:54Ouch.
00:04:55But how could you do this to Mom?
00:04:56She made this network.
00:04:58Camilla, she quit, okay?
00:05:00She made a business decision.
00:05:01I made a business decision.
00:05:03Don't turn it into something personal.
00:05:04You were married.
00:05:06Everything is personal, Dad.
00:05:07Why can't you learn that?
00:05:10Did I get a hug?
00:05:12Don't change the subject.
00:05:13Okay.
00:05:13Okay.
00:05:17Who is it?
00:05:43My name's Walt.
00:05:44I work for your Grandma Ruth,
00:05:46an old friend of your mother's.
00:05:47Is that a piece of straw in your mouth?
00:05:55Mm-hmm.
00:05:57Cows pee on that, you know.
00:06:02Is your mother here?
00:06:04Mom!
00:06:08Hey.
00:06:09Oh.
00:06:14Hey.
00:06:18You've done well for yourself.
00:06:19Worked hard for it.
00:06:23Camilla's what?
00:06:24She's 13 now?
00:06:2514?
00:06:2514.
00:06:30Walt.
00:06:32You could have called.
00:06:34It's important.
00:06:35And I need to speak to you in person.
00:06:37Is it my mother?
00:06:38What happened?
00:06:39Nothing's happened.
00:06:40Then what is it?
00:06:41You know Ruth would kill me if she knew I was even here, right?
00:06:46She don't see so good anymore.
00:06:48And Doc Thorne says it's bad.
00:06:50It's going to get worse.
00:06:52She may lose her sight all the way.
00:07:00Nevada.
00:07:00The silver state.
00:07:02Yay.
00:07:04Hey honey, we'll be there in about an hour.
00:07:06Try to have a good attitude, honey.
00:07:09So what's the plan with Grandma?
00:07:11I don't know.
00:07:12Selling the ranch?
00:07:15I don't know.
00:07:15But I don't see any other options.
00:07:19Think she'll move and come live with us in L.A.?
00:07:21I doubt it.
00:07:23She likes the country.
00:07:35So when do we get to town?
00:07:37This is it.
00:07:38This is Main Street.
00:07:40Let's stop and get a cup of coffee, Camilla.
00:07:43You sure you have Roman and Rizal come over?
00:07:45Oh, absolutely.
00:07:47You know if I didn't make anything.
00:07:49Well, everybody's kind of breaking junk in, so...
00:07:52Okay.
00:07:55Kelly?
00:07:56Hank.
00:07:57My goodness, hello!
00:07:59What a pleasant surprise.
00:08:01You look great.
00:08:03You haven't changed one iota.
00:08:05Then you need to start a prescription.
00:08:08Hank, this is my daughter Camilla.
00:08:10Camilla, this is Hank.
00:08:11He was my journalism professor in college.
00:08:13I was your mother's first boss.
00:08:15Before she went all network on us.
00:08:18It's true.
00:08:18He was a tough editor.
00:08:19Taught me everything I know about journalism.
00:08:21She exaggerates.
00:08:22Yeah, I know.
00:08:24So you're still at the college?
00:08:25No.
00:08:26Retired.
00:08:27Now I just run my ranch.
00:08:29Try to run the paper.
00:08:31And try to keep my grandson out of trouble.
00:08:34Come on over here.
00:08:35I want you to meet my friend Kelly.
00:08:36And this is her daughter Camilla?
00:08:43It's nice to meet you, Chuck.
00:08:45His dad's National Guard regiment was just called up, so...
00:08:49He and his mom are staying with me on the ranch.
00:08:51Hmm.
00:08:52You going into the newspaper business, Chuck?
00:08:54Hey, Chuck, why don't you show Camilla the sights of our town while I catch up with Kelly?
00:09:04Sounds like a good idea.
00:09:05Why don't you go?
00:09:09Let's go.
00:09:09Oh, they're excited.
00:09:16I'm going to be a doctor.
00:09:18A brain surgeon.
00:09:22I mean, I'm talking the brain here.
00:09:26So, do you ever, like, speak?
00:09:31Yep, when I've got something to say.
00:09:32And you don't have anything to say?
00:09:34And you don't think that's rude?
00:09:38Well, you have to say something.
00:09:39Why?
00:09:41Because I'm not from here.
00:09:43Yeah, it's kind of obvious.
00:09:44What do you mean by that?
00:09:47The whole goff look.
00:09:48So five years ago.
00:09:50And the whole cowboy look.
00:09:52So two centuries ago.
00:09:56Rationing water.
00:09:58Is that serious, huh?
00:09:59Sure is.
00:10:03And Sam is the mayor.
00:10:06Sam, the car salesman.
00:10:08The same.
00:10:08I know.
00:10:09Hard to believe.
00:10:10So tell me.
00:10:11What do you think of the paper?
00:10:14I love it, Hank.
00:10:16It's really great.
00:10:17Congratulations.
00:10:19Speak of the devil.
00:10:21Here comes the mayor now.
00:10:22Your Honor!
00:10:23It's a mighty fine day when Kelly Faraday honors her hometown with a visit.
00:10:27Hi there.

00:10:38I was just telling Kelly about the water rationing.
00:10:42Tough times, tough decisions.
00:10:44The droughts hit this town pretty hard.
00:10:46A lot of things will change by this time next year.
00:10:49Prosper Nevada will have its own casino.
00:10:51Casino?
00:10:52Yeah, isn't that exciting?

00:18:13every day thanks see you at breakfast
00:18:27here we go
00:18:49blueberry pancakes hey Kelly blueberry pancakes your favorite
00:18:56there you are well dig in so I made a list of all the things that need to be
00:19:04fixed replaced and changed around here to make the ranch look like new again I
00:19:07can't afford it well I can mom so please let me do this for you
00:19:11fine give us a makeover if that's what makes you happy but don't expect pancakes
00:19:18every morning okay so barn needs fresh coat of paint and all the old fences need
00:19:23to be replaced no argument there first things first though we got to get some
00:19:27water on this ranch the water engineer will be here at 10 o'clock to test the
00:19:31well
00:19:31see you got to have more more what more water yeah and more gallons per minute you're down to
00:19:43under 10 gallons per minute that's no good can a water table dry up is that possible the
00:19:48unconfined aquifer I don't think so we could always go deeper that's gonna get expensive real quick 200 a
00:19:54foot where can all the water be going well it could be as simple as a seismic shift in a bedrock
00:19:59droughts temporary loss of water sources permanent well for now we start trucking in water
00:20:05hey grandma hi honey come on in what's going on out here a quilting bee ladies this is my granddaughter
00:20:19Camilla 14 going on 40 smart as a whip and sassy as they come just like my grandma so what are these
00:20:28quotes for anyway to raffle off at the street dance every year about this time yes we raise
00:20:36money for the auxiliary we gals have been doing this for a long time can I watch oh we'd love it yes
00:20:44get a chair you know those casino people came by again yesterday oh no not you too we've had to sell farm
00:20:56equipment just to make ends meet I've never seen my husband so depressed that's terrible tell me
00:21:03about it we're thinking of taking the offer a family farm is dead oh come on way too slow to respond on
00:21:18this water crisis delays denials that's your story Sam that makes you partly responsible for this whole
00:21:23thing by now well before you get too carried away we have installed monitoring devices and we are
00:21:29conducting analysis on various untapped resources Sam Sam I would just like to go on record that we
00:21:39should not and cannot sell out to this cowboy casino group Ruth Hanson can I just say again this meeting
00:21:46tonight is not about the casino this meeting is about us Sam us as a community what we are what we
00:21:53do what will become of us a town as small as this we become almost like from the same family you're
00:22:01absolutely right Sam without our crops we have nothing so let's focus on the crops getting the proper
00:22:11irrigation that's why I've instituted the water rationing but why are the farmers doing all the
00:22:17rationing why don't the guys at the fire station stop watering down their truck I agree I mean we all
00:22:24need to cut back everybody and you have to stop watering all your cars at your dealership what I would
00:22:30like is for this year's barn dance to be a rally against the casino what do you say
00:22:35that's not what we're here to talk about tonight people we're here to talk about the water
00:22:43you think she want to go for a ride she's not a mind reader she may have to actually ask her
00:22:54hey Camilla you want to go for a ride tomorrow

00:36:24what
00:36:27nothing
00:36:30okay
00:36:35well
00:36:43the pipes and pump are recently installed
00:36:45and the storm tunnel
00:36:46the bottleneck appears to be diverting water from the unconfined aquifer
00:36:50what's that
00:36:51the water is just beneath the surface
00:36:52the confined aquifer is further below beneath harder rock
00:36:55it's a diverting water
00:36:56where
00:36:57i'm not sure
00:36:58what do you mean by diverting water
00:37:00stealing water
00:37:02this is why our wells are running dry
00:37:04who owns this land

00:37:49on that note
00:37:51i thought you should know
00:37:54i think someone is stealing the town's water
00:37:56stealing water
00:37:58yeah i know that sounds strange
00:37:59what makes you say that
00:38:00have you been out to township road five lately
00:38:02no
00:38:02why
00:38:03there's a hole in the ground with pumping system and pipes
00:38:06headed to west
00:38:07really
00:38:08isn't that the land you're selling to the casino
00:38:10well yeah
00:38:11norris properties
00:38:12you're not accusing them of
00:38:15i'm not saying it's them sam

00:38:25no one wants to jeopardize this casino deal
00:38:27dash the hopes and dreams of this town
00:38:30maybe you could just delay the close of escrow on the land sale
00:38:35until this water business is figured out
00:38:37i'm the mayor sweetheart but not god
00:38:41but i'll look into it

00:39:53okay
00:39:54it's about the casino
00:39:57that's a touchy subject around here
00:40:00tell me about it
00:40:01i think the casino is diverting water from the town
00:40:05that's quite an accusation
00:40:06i know
00:40:07do you have any proof
00:40:10maybe
00:40:12this paper supported the casino deal
00:40:14it was good news for the whole town
00:40:16i didn't exactly win a popularity contest doing it
00:40:20particularly with the old timers
00:40:22like your mom
00:40:24what's the connection between the casino and diverting the water
00:40:28i don't know
00:40:29i know that it's being diverted
00:40:31seems like an extreme measure to get us to give up farming for a casino don't you think
00:40:37maybe
00:40:37maybe not
00:40:40who's against the casino
00:40:42the farmers and the ranchers
00:40:44tough times tough decisions
00:40:47isn't that what sam said
00:40:48we have to expose who's ever behind this
00:40:53before that public land turns private
00:40:55let's keep this under wraps for a while
00:40:59and you need to get more evidence before we can go to press

00:45:39for you it's about the town council I hope I've got the answer what is the procedure for the
00:45:45transfer of township land to a private company or individual the sale has to be carried unanimously
00:45:50by the council so you voted to approve the sale of the land to the casino well no I missed a few
00:45:57meetings my wife being sick and all but you know something I'm not against it I've been to Reno
00:46:01like the slots do you think I could see a copy of the town's bylaws maybe minutes of the council

00:47:32look this land deal got the majority approval of council and that's all
00:47:37bylaw number 15 section b
00:47:40the approval needs to be unanimous
00:47:42your sister Bessie and Doc Beatty weren't even present
00:47:44and Floyd Smithers voted against the sale
00:47:47as mayor I can make executive decisions for the good of the town

00:54:12deadline I've missed in 15 years
00:54:15I've been drinking

00:54:43if you can tell in your gut
00:54:44that something's not right
00:54:45get back out there
00:54:47and keep digging
00:54:47we'll set up an office
00:54:49at the house

00:55:17you're probably terrible
00:55:18maybe
00:55:19only one way to find out
00:55:21okay
00:55:21now
00:55:22take your
00:55:23take your finger off the trigger
00:55:24and pull the hammer back

00:55:34I can do it
00:55:36I can't see
00:55:37here we go
00:55:38alright

00:56:00you mean like
00:56:02cattle rustlers?
00:56:03yeah
00:56:04it's happening
00:56:05more and more
00:56:06in some states
00:56:08it's a crime
00:56:09but it's difficult
00:56:10to prosecute
00:56:11and in other states
00:56:12there's not even
00:56:12any laws on the books
00:56:13how about this state?
00:56:18well it's a misdemeanor
00:56:20to divert water
00:56:21from a township's pipes
00:56:22but not from the aquifer
00:56:24underground
00:56:24so then it's not a crime
00:56:25no
00:56:27but someone must have
00:56:29official permission
00:56:29to dig
00:56:30or drill for a well
00:56:31on county property
00:56:33I'm sure Norris
00:56:34got Sam's okay
00:56:35I mean if I were
00:56:36buying a piece of property

01:20:39about Bixford
01:20:40his brother being
01:20:42the mayor and all
01:20:43but the truth is
01:20:45that Bixford needs water
01:20:46and our town's water table
01:20:49is the linchpin
01:20:50to this casino deal
01:20:51Mr. Norris' company
01:20:53Neptune has already begun
01:20:54diverting Prosper's water
01:20:55to Bixford
01:20:56and that is the reason
01:20:58why our wells
01:20:58are drying up
01:20:59Mr. Norris is a criminal
01:21:01and if we agree
01:21:02to his casino
01:21:03then we are playing
01:21:04right into his hand
01:21:05and undermining
01:21:06our own community
01:21:07now Kelly
01:21:07that's quite an accusation
01:21:09Miss Faraday

01:21:22what my daughter
01:21:23has to say
01:21:24it's all true
01:21:31Mr. Norris
01:21:33has been stealing
01:21:33our water
01:21:34in order to drive us
01:21:35out of our homes
01:21:35and make way
01:21:36for his casino
01:21:36and I have the photos
01:21:37and the wet clothes
01:21:38to prove it
01:21:39and you can read
01:21:40all about it
01:21:40in tomorrow's post
01:21:41coming back
01:21:42to Prosper
01:21:43has made me realize
01:21:44how important it is
01:21:45to preserve
01:21:45this town's way of life
01:21:47my mother's
01:21:49great grandmother
01:21:50the indomitable
01:21:51sheriff Helen Barnes
01:21:52once saved this town
01:21:54from thieves
01:21:54and I ask you all
01:21:56to save this town
01:21:56once again
01:21:57and I ask the council
01:21:58to rescind this land
01:21:59deal with Mr. Norris
01:22:00and if we don't
01:22:00tomorrow escrow
01:22:02will close
01:22:03and our town of Prosper
01:22:04as we know it
01:22:05will be history
01:22:08Mr. Norris
01:22:12I know that you're
01:22:12a litigious man
01:22:13but I guarantee you
01:22:14the people of Prosper
01:22:15will hold you
01:22:15personally responsible
01:22:16for the losses
01:22:18that they have incurred
01:22:19as a result
01:22:19of your stealing
01:22:20their water
01:22:20for your own
01:22:21personal gain
01:22:21I wouldn't have
01:22:23it any other way
01:22:24Ms. Faraday
01:22:25well played
01:22:26and there's
01:22:34one more thing
01:22:34Mrs. Council
01:22:36realized that
01:22:36our mayor
01:22:38Sam Bridgewater
01:22:40is on the payroll
01:22:41at Neptune
01:22:42Sam has been
01:22:44going along
01:22:44with a casino deal
01:22:45and knowingly
01:22:46assisting in the
01:22:47diversion
01:22:47of our water
01:22:48I can explain
01:22:49Shut up Sam
01:22:51In light
01:22:54of these
01:22:55new developments
01:22:56I move
01:22:57that we
01:22:57table this motion
01:22:59and thereby
01:23:00nullify this
01:23:01transaction
01:23:01with Norris
01:23:02properties
01:23:03All those in favor?
01:23:06It's unanimous
