00:03As a friend, a fan, I'm honored to be here today.
00:06I'm a collector of quotes, so you'll have to pardon me.
00:08This is what I did write down because I don't remember exactly what poet or scholar or, you know, TED
00:12talk I heard this from.
00:13But I think it sums up Joe's journey from selling shoes to open mic nights to being honored here today
00:21in a truly iconic Hollywood fashion, immortalized in cement at the legendary Chinese theater.
00:26And the quote is this started from the bottom.
00:30Now we hear you've earned this, Joe.
00:34And I know I speak for everyone here today when I say mahal kita.
00:39Congratulations.
00:41And we have a few special guest speakers who come up here to say a few words.
00:45Our first guest is himself a legend, a singer, a songwriter.
00:48He has produced 26 number one songs, won 13 Grammy Awards.
00:53He's the guy that Mariah Carey heard on the radio when she changed the drought.
00:56She was trying to catch a break.
00:58Ladies and gentlemen, baby face.
01:15Just to be fair, I wasn't supposed to speak.
01:17It was actually supposed to be Wanya.
01:19I was taking his place.
01:22Because Wanya was not going to show up and he's supposed to be his best friend and stuff.
01:28And he wasn't even going to show up.
01:31And so I ain't trying to start nothing, but I'm just saying the truth here, what it is.
01:41But the thing is, it was Wanya that introduced me to Joe.
01:46And because he said, you need to come down to Hawaii and see this guy in concert.
01:51You need to see this.
01:52Because he's funny as hell.
01:53He's also the nicest guy.
01:55And to be honest, I didn't know who Joe was at the time.
01:58And so I went down there and there were all these people at the concert.
02:04And I said, how do they know him?
02:06And they like, it was the funniest thing.
02:10And he was like telling all these jokes that I had never heard before from a very Philippine style.
02:17And it was like talking to me.
02:20And I couldn't believe that this guy was just so funny.
02:23And then I met him.
02:26And in meeting him, he is truly the nicest person in the world.
02:32I don't know that I've met anybody so nice.
02:34When he greets you, he greets you with a smile.
02:37He hugs you.
02:39And he won't let go until you say, I love you.
02:43And that's the truth.
02:45We were like saying goodbye the other day.
02:47And I was just trying to let go of him and say, I love you.
02:50I love you.
02:51No, no.
02:51Say it like you mean it.
02:52I love you.
02:54So now I say I love you to him every time.
02:56But I wasn't supposed to be here, as I say, talking for him.
03:00But I was so happy to come up here and speak for you.
03:03And I think I need you to come up here because I was going to sing your part.
03:07You know, you know, because I was.
03:11Come on here with me.
03:16I'll start off.
03:17We don't even talk anymore.
03:21We don't even know what we argue about.
03:26Yeah.
03:28You know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, check this out real quick.
03:31Um, I played a major trick on the homie.
03:35I wasn't supposed to be here.
03:36Um, and I told him that I wasn't coming.
03:40Uh, he always finds out every time I play a trick on him or, or, you know, somebody always
03:46tells in the organization, they are very open and honest.
03:50I love it.
03:51Um, but, um, I wrote a couple of things, man, you know, and I hope everybody feel me, you
03:57know, um, um, um, today we're celebrating one of the greatest people that I've ever been,
04:04uh, blessed to come across, you know, um, and, uh, finally, you know, they are, uh, uh,
04:11understanding what I see when I look at this man, you know, I look at a genuine person full
04:17of love, full of laughter, full of joy, and the ability to share all of those things with
04:25everyone around him.
04:28And that's crazy because there's, that's only one person, but there's millions of us that
04:35love him.
04:36You know, uh, when Joe and I met 2020, I had no idea that I was only gaining, not only
04:42gaining
04:42a friend, but I was actually gaining another sibling.
04:46Uh, and, and since that day, I got a free backstage, uh, seat because I sit in the back
04:51when he's doing the shows, I sit in the back cause I always come out and surprise everybody
04:55so I watch it from the back.
04:57Um, I got a free backseat, uh, to his comedy wizardry.
05:02Um, and let me tell you, man, his, his, his ethic, his work ethic shine brighter than,
05:09I guess you could say, both of our heads in the North Shore sun.
05:13You know what I'm saying?
05:14You remember why we was doing the North Shore?
05:17We was mad.
05:18We almost drowned in everything, but we made it through, bro.
05:20You know what I'm saying?
05:21Um, but seriously, um, um, you've turned stories about your family and, and, and, and everything
05:29that you talk about into the reality that we all can share, you know, because our families
05:37being as though we are connected, everybody has those same type of circumstances that go
05:42on in their lives.
05:43So the fun and the joy that you share is just people relating to you, Joe, you know,
05:49you're an extremely relatable person.
05:51And, um, I just want to conclude by saying this, man, I'm a lifer.
05:55I'm a Joe Coy lifer.
05:57You know what I'm saying?
05:57And I'm, I'm in, I'm in this for the journey with you, brother.
06:00And, um, you know, I'm right there with you.
06:03You holler.
06:03I'm here.
06:05Everybody is here for Joe Coy, man.
06:07We love you, bro.
06:08God bless you, bro.
06:10Joe, I just want to say one last thing.
06:13Um, when I said that Joe is like the nicest person and he really just gives out love and
06:20you can feel that every time you see him and he does light up a room every time he walks
06:24in.
06:24And I would just say with what's going on in the world today, what's going on here today,
06:28we need more people like Joe.
06:30We need this world to be like Joe.
06:32And so I'm with you.
06:34Glad to be here and speak for you.
