00:00Why did you and T specifically want to make those rounds together at Super Bowl Radio
00:05Rail last week?
00:08Well, I think the best way to look at it is just as we produce the podcast and let the
00:14world know that we come out with a podcast, this is how it's going to be when we're talking
00:17and just picking our brain and seeing what we like at that time, you know, and us getting
00:23a feel for it at that time of just talking with each other and just interacting and seeing
00:26how we are around each other.
00:30Have had a little over a month to kind of take in and internalize the 6-11 season.
00:36What is the biggest lesson that you are taking away individually, Jamar, from the first losing
00:42stretch of months in your entire NFL career?
00:49That's a good question.
00:52I'll probably say just...
00:58It's really just a commitment, man, at the end of the day.
01:02Just got to commit to yourself, playing your part at the end of the day and being there
01:05for your teammates.
01:06Man, that was the biggest thing going through these last three years for me.
01:11Makes a lot of sense.
01:11Obviously, there's frustration.
01:13You guys want to be a championship team.
01:16The whole fan base wants to see you and Joe and T win a title together.
01:22And there's not an endless amount of time to make that happen.
01:25And fans, you can get the feeling from the fan base that they may...
01:28Are starting to feel like maybe your guys' primes are getting wasted.
01:32What would you say to fans who are feeling like you guys are not maximizing your prime the
01:39right way and how would you message to them?
01:44I mean, everybody has an opinion at the end of the day.
01:46And an opinion sometimes is right to be heard.
01:49But, you know, I can't judge people and what they feel at the end of the day.
01:54I know all I can do is control what I can control.
01:57And that's my play at the end of the day.
01:59And what my play do is only how far I can lead the team to success or not success.
02:06Speaking with Cincinnati Bengals, all-pro wide receiver, two-time all-pro wide receiver,
02:11Jamar Chase, made the Pro Bowl every year of his career so far.
02:15Chatting with us courtesy of Fabletics, where he's got an awesome new clothing line out.

02:29So, Jamar, what are you expecting the team to do this offseason?
02:34Are you expecting significant additions specifically on defense where basically the whole world knows
02:40that's where the franchise is lacking the most right now?
02:46Yeah, I mean, everybody pretty much knows what we need.
02:50You know, I've said it out in the media.
02:52So, I mean, all I got to do is sit back and watch.
02:54I can't control.
02:55Like I said, I can't control that.
02:56So, all I got to do is control my production.
02:59I mean, at the end of the day, I'm just stating my opinion on what I think we need.
03:03So, you know, I sit back, let the organization do what they do, and I just got to let my
03:06play do the rest.
03:09Makes a lot of sense.
03:09So, diving into your offseason, any big plans for the offseason?
03:14Any big traveling?
03:16And on top of that, well, I'll let you answer that first.
03:19Any big plans for you this offseason?
03:23I mean, really, I'm just trying to take a new approach with, like, streaming and stuff right now, just, and
03:32with the podcast.
03:33So, that's my two biggest things.
03:34I'm only going to focus on it a little bit at a time and just worry about football, you know?
03:39Now I'm like my partner in my life where I'm starting to get into a little more of my hobbies.
03:44That's cool.
03:44Why do you want to get more into the streaming?
03:47I've always been, I feel like now I've been at a platform, but now I'm just, I'm going to write,
03:53I just found the right way to go about using it and collabing with the right people.
03:58That's cool.
03:59I like that.
03:59So, how has your offseason work changed from the start of your career to now?
04:04Have you tweaked anything significantly, or is it kind of, I've been doing this routine the same way, dating back
04:10to high school, and it's obviously been working out very well and leading to a lot of success and everything
04:16that I can control on the field?
04:20Pretty much every offseason, I try to change it up a little bit.
04:26Work on new things, new cons that I have, and always, you know, fix the pros that I have before
04:35the season starts.
04:35So, there always should be something new I feel like that I should work on every offseason.
04:40Is that like a technique thing you dive into?
04:43Do you like go through all, do you like sit down and watch all your routes from the season after
04:49the season and kind of formulate a game plan there?
04:52How do you assess what to focus on improving each offseason?
04:58I've got a good trainer, so, you know, a lot of my work goes, helps, comes from my trainer.
05:04I tell him what I want to work on.
05:06He sets me up in the right direction from who I want to meet with, talk to, sit down, watch
05:11film with, you know, et cetera.
05:12So, you know, he definitely helps me with that, too.
05:15So, it's not just how I'm working, it's who I'm working with.
05:19And is that like trainer in terms of wide receiver skills or like working out trainer?
05:27Cardio training and on the field training.
05:31Gotcha.
05:32That kind of leads me to my next question.
05:33So, you're one of the highest volume receivers in the NFL.
05:37You're a guy running nearly at the top of the league and routes run, just time on the field, the
05:43stamina it requires to reach that level.
05:47Would you give credit to your cardio trainer?
05:49And is that a pretty common thing for wide receivers in the NFL to have a cardio-specific trainer like
05:55that?
05:58I'll 100% give, you know, a lot of credit to my trainer just because it's a lot of track
06:04workouts we do.
06:04So, you know, and a lot of receivers should want to move around a lot because it's a lot of
06:11movement being done.
06:14And we're running 16 miles per hour every play, so it's plus.
06:19So, it's a lot of movement going on.
06:22So, we just got to make sure we're monitoring ourselves and always making sure we're running at a high volume
06:27for the season and all season.
06:30A couple of rapid-fire questions here for Jamar Chase.
06:32Cincinnati Bengals, all-pro, wide receiver, very gracious for this time.
06:36Here on Cincinnati Bengals on SI, chatting with me, Russ Hellman, writer for the site.
06:42Favorite touchdown catch in your career?
06:45Do you have one?
06:46It may be hard to pick.
06:47Maybe the first one that comes to your mind, and why does that one stand out?
06:55For me, I would probably say probably the fade, the fade in Kansas City to go to the playoff to
07:07win the AFC Championship or my first start down.
07:12Yeah, I remember.
07:13I can replay those in my head right now.
07:15They're bringing a lot of smiles.
07:16The Bengals fans going down that memory lane.
07:19Defenses, Jamar.
07:21What defense stands out the most that's challenged you the most, maybe across your entire career or in a specific
07:29game?
07:29Whatever comes to mind first.
07:34I would probably say Cleveland.
07:37You know what I'm saying?
07:38They always make it hard for us up front.
07:43We're fresh on the quarterback, so there's not a lot of time for us to do anything.
07:46And so, you know, the DD, I think that would have been pretty good there.
07:50So, you know, it's not pretty easy going against them out there than Indians that would have been at the
07:53same time.
07:55Take the audience through a game day for Jamar Chase.
07:59Let's do a 1 p.m. game and an 8 p.m. game.
08:03How does your routine look for a normal Sunday afternoon game and then a primetime game?
08:11So, if we're playing a 1 p.m. game, I would need to be in the bed by 10 just
08:20to get off my feet for the night.
08:21I would need to show them in the bed.
08:24If it's an 8 p.m. game the night before, I'm usually going to play video games.
08:29It's pretty funny that you ask this.
08:30I'm probably going to chill, play some games, chill with the fam.
08:35And, you know, that morning I eat breakfast.
08:38And the difference is, 1 p.m. game, sometimes I don't really eat breakfast.
08:41I eat, like, fruit and I go, but 8 p.m. games, I eat an actual breakfast.
08:46And then, of course, the lunch, of course, obviously.
08:50And then the 8 p.m. game, I would say the knack throughout the day.
08:55And then the game time.
