00:00Uh, and you were there on site at TPC Scottsdale for the W and Phoenix open
00:04watching Chris Goddard up when, Oh, obviously won the season opener at the
00:09Sodi open.
00:10And now his second win in three starts, uh, at the W and Phoenix open.
00:13Uh, it's also his third win of his last 11 starts dating back to 2025
00:17Scottish open, as mentioned, jumps to fifth in the O W GR.
00:21He is 18th in the data golf rankings, uh, stat from.
00:25Did you already say he jumped to fifth?
00:28Fifth.
00:28Yeah.
00:29Woo.
00:30Fifth.
00:30How about that?
00:31Right.
00:32That, that top five now is so interesting to me because I believe off top it is
00:37Scotty Rory.
00:38And then it's either Tommy or Justin Rose.
00:41One of those two flip flop three, four, and now Chris Goddard up.
00:44And if you told me at this point in the season that after we finished 2025, is this
00:50a new big three Scotty Rory, Tommy, and you're like, Hey, the other two guys are
00:54going to be, I would have probably taken me a hundred guesses, maybe more to say
00:58Justin Rose and Chris Goddard up.
01:00It was unbelievable stuff.
01:02Gosh, but I'm here for it.
01:03Love it.
01:04And boy, it's dessert for both those guys.
01:07Uh, Justin Ray golf, who, or Justin Ray golf is his Twitter account.
01:10Justin Ray is the human being.
01:11He was the unofficial official show researcher.
01:15Great stat.
01:16We're going to have a number of stats.
01:17We're going to drop on you from just throughout the show, but the most PGA tour wins in the
01:21last three seasons, Scotty Scheffler has 14.
01:24You know, Rory McIlroy has five and Chris Goddard up to wild teen about it.
01:33It's it's I guess the Scotty number is Scotty number is the one honestly to, to break down
01:37there, but God are up and Roy just about being tied is, is really cool too.
01:42Well, and Scotty and we'll, we'll get to Scotty a little bit later, but I mean, coming
01:45down the stretch after opening the way he did on Thursday, you're like, is he going to find
01:49a way to win this golf tournament again?
01:51Like this can't, this can't be possible, uh, at the rate we're going, but he gave it a
01:55good run and he posted 15 before, of course, Goddard came in and posted 16 and ended up
01:59in that playoff.
02:00But I just, to start with Goddard up, I mean, such an amazing ascent on a number of different
02:06levels.
02:06And I remember talking after Sony where you were just, you know, breaking down the way he's
02:11continued to add to his game, you know, in some ways through exposure to other top tour
02:16pros and a number of different settings specific to this week, what impressed you the most
02:20about the way Chris got this tournament one?
02:23Oh gosh.
02:24Well, that's, uh, first off, huge congrats to Chris.
02:28I mean, I didn't even know he was going to win the golf tournament until he was, I was
02:32like, wait, he's about to be in a playoff.
02:34It was the most bizarre thing ever.
02:36It just felt like it was Hideki or nobody else, you know, right there towards the end, uh, especially
02:42just the way he was maneuvering himself around the golf course.
02:46And here comes Chris Goddard up on Sunday and, and does a little, let's see, how did
02:51he finish?
02:51We got a, this is round one.
02:53I'm looking at, um, was it four birdies in his last five?
02:58Is that right?
02:59Yeah.
02:59I, let me, let me pull that stat for you as well.
03:01I mean, really, you know, where, where I want to go is we kind of break down his round,
03:04but the birdie on 18 on a 72nd hole and regulation, uh, hits a drive right of the cart path over
03:12where the fans are standing.
03:13It has to have a, I mean, I guess he could have posted 15 then would have been theoretically
03:17in a playoff with Scottie and would need Hideki to drop two shots, but the shot he hits over
03:21there, 130 yards to give himself three feet for birdie and makes that to post 16.
03:26Unbelievable stuff.
03:27Oh gosh.
03:28Yes.
03:29Unbelievable.
03:29And it all kind of starts with me with Chris got her up heading into this week, you know,
03:35it gets that the pairing, right?
03:36You get the Scotty Shefford Thursday, Friday pairing with Jordan speed.
03:40That's a big spot.
03:41You know, there's a lot of first time, uh, tour winners.
03:44I know he's on a first time tour winner, but you know, getting into that upper echelon pairing
03:49where you're up against Scotty on a Thursday, Friday, it's like a Sunday on a Thursday and very
03:57few people have to deal with it.
03:58Scotty deals with it every day, but other people that play with Scotty aren't used to
04:02maybe the crowds that, that he attracts a weekend and week out or day in and day out.
04:07And so what impressed me so much about Chris was that he was able to get off to a really
04:14hot start on Thursday and be leading the golf tournament after the first round, beating
04:18Scotty Shefford by 10 on Thursday, shoots 30 on the backside, shoots 63, no bogeys.
04:26And I think it, what that tells you is just how mentally prepared he was for that day.
04:33It tells you a lot about him as a, as a player, the, the swagger that we continue to talk about
04:38the freedom that he seems to be playing with right now, really winning that Sony open.
04:42He talked about it, uh, how, how much more freedom it gives him.
04:46He actually mentioned to how it gives him just the financial stability to be in the, the
04:52top, you know, making five years on the PGA tour, the, the full benefits in retirement.
04:57He like mentioned that you're like, Oh, I guess, I guess he could be thinking about that.
05:01And he was thinking about it somewhat.
05:02Now it's like, all right, I'm going to be pretty loaded the rest of my life.
05:05Might as well just go make more money at this point.
05:07Do you see his tweet on that, by the way, pay me, pay me to my money, pay me my money.
