00:00South Africa's government announced a 16% overall decline in rhino poaching last year compared to 2024.
00:09Environment Minister Willie Ockham said 352 rhinos were poached in 2025, down by 68 from the previous year.
00:20He credited dedicated anti-poaching efforts and swift coordination.
00:26However, the progress is uneven across the country.
00:31Mpalanga province was the hardest hit with losses soaring to 178 rhinos, primarily in the Kruger National Park.
00:41This marks a troubling increase in that region.
00:46But there is a dramatic success story in KwaZulu-Natal.
00:50Poaching in the iconic Lulue-Infolozi Park plummeted from 198 rhinos in 2024 to just 63 last year.
01:01Officials attributed this to closer collaboration with private rhino owners, a strategic de-owning program, and support from major conservation partners.
