Uzbekistan overhauls healthcare with digital systems and modern facilities

Uzbekistan is modernising its healthcare system with new hospitals, advanced pediatric care and a rapidly expanding private sector. Digital health systems, regional services and medical education are also improving, making quality healthcare more accessible nationwide.

00:00Uzbekistan is upgrading its health care system through new technologies, stronger medical training and modern hospital infrastructure, broadening access to quality care and reinforcing its role as a regional medical hub in Central Asia.
00:19Hello and welcome to Business Line Uzbekistan. As part of the Uzbekistan 2030 strategy, the country is implementing wide-ranging reforms to modernize its health care system.
00:31In 2025, 3.2 billion euros were allocated to the sector, including support for digitalization, infrastructure upgrades, primary care reform, medical education and private sector growth.
00:45A unified electronic information system, the MED, was established. Medical data for approximately 37 million people were entered into the database and a unified electronic medical record was created for all citizens.
01:01While in 2017, there were about 3,000 to 3,500 private clinics. By the end of 2025, their number had exceeded 9,000, showing steady annual growth.
01:14As a result of research and innovation, the National Children's Medical Center became the first public medical institution in the country to receive the internationally recognized Joint Commission International Certificate.

01:30The National Children's Medical Center is expanding access to modern pediatric care.
01:35For the first time in Uzbekistan, complex scoliosis surgeries are now performed locally, eliminating the need for costly treatment abroad.
01:43Medical education is also being reshaped.
01:52Tashkent State Medical University was created through a merger, while Urgen State Medical Institute has opened its doors.
01:59Eight medical universities now hold international accreditation.
02:02Simulation training is becoming a core part of medical education, allowing students to practice procedures in realistic clinical settings.
02:19Digital tools are transforming healthcare management from patient registration to unified electronic medical records.
02:37As the heart of this shift is DMAT, Uzbekistan's unified digital medical system.
02:42The private healthcare sector is growing as well.
03:03Its share has tripled over eight years, supported by international partnerships and public-private initiatives.
