00:00Convicted sex trafficker and former girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, refused to answer questions from U.S. House lawmakers during a deposition on Monday.
00:13Maxwell faces renewed scrutiny as lawmakers investigate how Epstein abused underage girls for years and search for anyone who may have facilitated the abuse.
00:25I would like to answer your question, but on the advice of counsel, I respectfully decline to answer this question and any related questions.
00:34The partial publication of files on Epstein by the Department of Homeland Security showed that both U.S. President Donald Trump and former President Bill Clinton spent time with Epstein in the 1990s and early 2000s.
00:49Maxwell's attorney, David Oscar Marcus, said that if Trump ended her prison sentence, she would be willing to testify that neither he nor Clinton had done anything wrong in their connections with Epstein.
01:03Meanwhile, both Democrats and Republicans have pushed back against the possibility of an appeal.
01:09When asked on Monday about Maxwell's appeal, the White House pointed to previous remarks from the President that indicated that the prospect of a pardon was not on his radar.
01:20Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence in Texas.
