00:10del Sol I'm Jasmine Harmon and for over 20 years I've been helping house hunters find their dream
00:16homes overseas today I'm going to be using all my skills to find the perfect place for Karen
00:22and Gary who are a bit yin and yang they do often both like what they see something else it's a
00:38spectacular view it is I visit a luxury apartment with a fancy water feature do you know what's so
00:44nice is the way the Sun is hitting the hot tub and you can see the reflection on the ceiling but at
00:50the end of the day do I find my house hunters their perfect place in the Sun I think this
00:55has got into number one Karen and Gary have just celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary and
01:10have always supported each other through thick and thin now after a particularly challenging few
01:16years for Karen they're even more determined to embrace life together by buying their very own
01:23holiday home here on the Costa del Sol retired civil servant Karen and former IT manager Gary who live
01:31in the West Midlands have been coping with Karen having treatment for different types of cancer for
01:36almost 20 years she's had a lot of illnesses over the years some very close to life-threatening and
01:44she's pulled through with a strength of character and it just seems that the right time and the right
01:51thing to do and at this moment in our lives to go and find the Sun they want to make the most of their
02:01time together along with their 30 year old daughter Chloe by buying a holiday home on the Costa del Sol with
02:07a budget of two hundred thousand pounds it's an area they've loved to visit many times we've just been
02:14to quite a few places along the Costa del Sol that yeah that stretch where better to spend lazy days
02:23walking yeah eating you get to the Costa del Sol in southern Spain by flying into Malaga which takes
02:31about three hours from the UK the Costa del Sol is arguably Spain's best-known holiday destination and
02:39has been so for a long time last year an amazing 14 million tourists visited the region attracted by the
02:46beautiful sunkissed beaches on its more than 90 miles of coastline and all the activities the area offers
02:53but all that popularity inevitably makes it a pretty pricey part of the world to buy property the Costa del
03:01Sol's reputation as Spain's top holiday destination began way back in the 1940s and 50s when it welcomed
03:08glamorous Hollywood stars such as Grace Kelly and Marlon Brando it's beautiful beaches and great
03:16transport links has meant that its popularity has never waned and today a two-bedroom frontline
03:23apartment can cost up to three million pounds luckily however just a short walk back from the
03:30beach and prices dropped dramatically so I'm confident I can find some exciting options for Karen and Gary
03:37before we get going I'm meeting up with my house hunters on the lovely Playa del Ejido a 750 foot stretch
03:44of sand just outside Fuen Quirola good morning how does it feel to be back here on the Costa del Sol
03:53absolutely fantastic hot clear skies lovely blue sea yeah what's better so what is it that keeps you
04:00coming back the stretch from Malaga to Estepona so you love this side of the Costa del Sol do you yes yes yeah yeah
04:08yeah have you two done much research on properties in this area yeah I've been online and the fact that we
04:17want to be specific in this area we do understand that we're setting you a hell of a challenge why have you
04:24decided to buy a place just now do you want me to take over over recent years Karen Sam had a
04:33mastectomy a lobectomy and a craniotomy and thinking we got over that they found a speck on my spine so she's
04:45going through treatment now for bone cancer consultants tell us it's just to prolong life now so I think
04:52that's probably why Karen's saying go go for it now seize the day you out of anyone I'm gonna say
05:01really deserves to have that wonderful you know thing to look forward to my job is to find you this
05:10perfect place of course where you can come and you can have quality time together you can feel the
05:17benefits of being here tell me what your top priorities are then for your property minimum of
05:23two bedrooms one bathroom decent enough space outside for table and chairs for at least four
05:31people so who else is it apart from you two that you're wanting to accommodate it's our daughter Chloe
05:36it's important whatever we choose that it's going to be good for her maybe get a little bit of
05:43approval really so does she actually get a say no we may not really know but whatever we choose she'd
05:49be happy anything else that comes to mind we want to be about 30 minutes from the beach perhaps 20
05:56minute walk into shops and bars okay I don't really want to drive as I'm maturing in years so how
06:03important is access to public transport for you I think it's one of the main things I mean let's talk
06:10about your budget because you've got 200,000 pounds we have have you got any flexibility in
06:15that budget we could push it to 240 240 yeah do you know what I think that we need to get started so
06:24let's go and have a look at the first one and see what you think and then I can decide where we go to
06:29next thank you very much okay well there's no doubt how important this house hunt is for Karen and
06:36Gary and I think I can definitely find some great options with their maximum budget of 240,000 pounds
06:42my first property is in the popular seaside town of Benal Madna and on the way to it I thought we'd
06:48take a look at one of its main landmarks and best beaches now we've come a little bit along the coast
06:56how well do you know this bit of the Costa del Sol we have been here before to theme park many years ago
07:03many years we've actually never been on the beach yeah there is some beautiful yes this is obviously
07:13one beach you've got down here so if you were close to here what do you think you'd spend your time
07:18doing well just just sitting over there on one of the benches people watching where we're going for
07:25our first property is approximately 25 minutes walk from here okay that sounds great thank you that 25
07:35minute stroll or less than 10 minutes in a car takes us to an area called Torre Quebrada south of the
07:41center of Benal Madna prices here have risen dramatically in the past few years so my first
07:46property on a lovely development is a touch over budget though I've been told there's room for
07:52negotiation so I wanted to begin by showing you the communal pool is this what you had in mind
07:59mm-hmm that's lovely gorgeous yeah it is the grass as well and it's nice yeah so lovely plenty of room
08:08for today exactly and it's only about a 10 minute walk down to your nearest beach here so shall we go and
08:15take a look at the property yes please thank you this is it folks we are looking at this ground floor
08:26apartment just here looks nice from here yeah really does it's two bedrooms one bathroom really nice and
08:33spacious and it's obviously looking out over the golf course of the mountains that is gorgeous
08:39lovely do you think Chloe would be happy with this location most definitely any good-looking golfers now
08:49it's on the market a little bit over your top end of your budget it's on the market for just under
08:57two hundred and forty three thousand pounds okay so I know that's pushing it yeah but the agent has
09:03told me that the vendor is looking for a quick sale okay so that there is likely to be some kind of
09:10negotiation on that which is kind of why I thought I've gone definitely well should we go around and
09:17have a look at the inside yes please thank you as well as access to the communal pool and gardens this
09:23ground-floor apartment has a small terrace out front and a much larger one at the back inside there's a
09:30living and dining room a separate kitchen the main bedroom which opens onto the terrace a second bedroom
09:37and a shower room it feels a bit echoey because obviously it's completely empty but what do you
09:49two think of this space as a living space it's a good size isn't it perfect yeah really is really
09:57clean lines seeing coving all the way around great space it's good to see it's an empty space really
10:07isn't it to see what you can do with it yourself yeah are you quite excited about furnishing and doing
10:13the interior yeah most definitely I've got no flair for it as such but I know what I like and I'd be I'd enjoy
10:21doing that I think I'd really enjoy doing that with my daughter you've waited decades for this moment
10:27haven't you is it starting to feel real now I mean this is the first one we've ever viewed a property to
10:33walk into this today I don't I don't even need to paint so how do you like the outside space here very
10:47good size excellent table for six yes I only asked for four I think is it slightly sunken it's quite
10:56private yes I mean a lot of people say they want to have south facing and but even when you're not in
11:06the high season you still actually quite often want to sit in the shade of the meeting or definitely
11:12if you want to go and sunbathe you can go down to the pool exactly yeah I'll show you when I've got lunch for
11:18a day so do you want to go and see the rest together okay so you can chat and then come and find me when
11:24you're done so we can catch up all day all right thank you well I could not have hoped for a better
11:33start both of their reactions here are absolutely fantastic oh that's a nice space isn't it it's a
11:43great size and the patio doors onto the cherries roll out in there in the morning yeah I like that
11:51do you like the contrast of the units that's good maybe put a little breakfast bar and a couple of
11:58stores yeah that's nice isn't it I always like to get my house hunts off to a good start and there's
12:05no doubt I've done that with this apartment which is on the market for a negotiable just under 243
12:11thousand pounds it really seems to have made an impact on Karen and Gary have you seen it all now
12:18then we have yeah nice start a good start was it I mean I feel very positive vibes coming from you
12:25both here what were the best bits of it for you the pool area and the garden this is lovely the property
12:32itself is in size is just right for us I can't think really of any negatives really I honestly
12:41can't oh no I know it's a big moment isn't it how do you feel when you see Karen getting welling up and
12:53getting emotional about it I have to be careful myself oh no it's um I think we want to realize
13:02this dream now would you say this one's a contender yes definitely definitely yeah that's great news the
13:10first one I know if I peeked too early do you think how'd you beat that yeah that's what I was gonna ask you
13:18yeah the sea view would still be lovely but let's oh dear keep this one we'll keep this one in the
13:26county and we'll go and see what I've got lined up for you fantastic thank you well I couldn't have
13:32asked for a better beginning to this search but I do reckon I can find Karen and Gary somewhere they'll
13:37like even more my next place is just outside the popular town of Fuenquilola and I thought we'd head to
13:43one of its main squares and have a little look around on the way I suspect you may be familiar
13:50with where we are now in the place of the Constitución how well do you know this area yeah we quite well
13:58we've been here a few times what is it you like about this area as much as we will love walking along
14:05the promenade it's this is where you want to walk and eat nice little boutique shops or bakeries how
14:16would you feel if I told you our next property is about 30 minutes walk from here that's very good
14:21that's nice yeah just right that would be on the money yeah shall we go and see what you think yes please

14:32coming up I think it's going to be tough to beat my first property but with these sea views I'm feeling
14:38confident about what I've got lined up for them
14:41today I'm with Karen and Gary helping them find their dream holiday home on the stunning
14:53Costa del Sol and we got off to a flying start that's because my house hunters who have a maximum
15:01budget of 240 000 pounds to buy a holiday home to enjoy with their daughter Chloe were really impressed
15:08by this apartment they loved its clean lines and the fact it had a very appealing pool my second
15:15property is in an area called Las Lagunas de Mijas about 25 minutes walk from the center of Fuente
15:21Lola it's very popular with buyers from the UK Scandinavia and France in particular I found Karen
15:28and Gary what I think is a great apartment on a lovely urbanization for a smidge below their maximum
15:33budget so we've got a nice elevated position here the agent says you could go through the
15:41pedestrianized route straight down to the beach in about quarter of an hour that's brilliant and we
15:46are looking at a two-bedroom apartment it's actually that one just there okay because you're in a more
15:53elevated position you can hopefully imagine what the views might be like brilliant it's a lovely building
16:01looks very traditional looks as though you could sit there and have a nice class of carver
16:07it's on the market for just under two hundred and thirty nine and a half thousand pounds hey
16:14possibly a bit of negotiation okay shall we go up and take a closer look why not thank you this
16:22apartment has access to the communal pool and gardens and a large terrace with sea views inside
16:29there's a bright spacious living and dining room with patio doors to the terrace a separate kitchen the
16:37main bedroom which opens onto the terrace a second bedroom with its own balcony and a shower room
16:43how do you like the look of this one then it's a nice space isn't it great great size again yeah a
16:50little bit bigger I think than the one we've just looked at but being drawn to the fireplace as well
16:57that's a nice feature very nice one of run off onto the balcony before we go out to taking that view
17:04properly let's just have a quick look at one of the bedrooms here so through the arch not huge yeah but
17:11it's it's it's a good size a good space really get a double bed and little the wardrobes are there
17:18side table it's very clean and yeah nice and again the access it's outside yes it'd be nice to go
17:27straight out there but I've got the keys for the gate so let's go right back round okay and have a look
17:32at the terrace fantastic how's this terrace for you then that's a good size that's definitely ready
17:42for a table and chairs exactly nice view down to the sea the grand view and it's lovely it's really
17:49really is lovely what would Chloe think of this one oh again Chloe Woods yeah I think she'd just be
17:57happy if we were happy sort of thing yeah well I'm gonna let you two go and have a look at the rest of
18:03this on your own I'll wait for you out here and we can then chat okay thank you this is very exciting
18:14I'm definitely giving my first property a run for its money oh certainly get a double bed in there as
18:23well yeah it's a similar size I like it you won't be any fighting over the bedroom no no that's good
18:31little balcony okay okay good enough size yeah I think so yeah but I think the doors make it look seem
18:42quite dark I agree just looks a bit tired some bit of sprucing up would make a world of difference
18:50I thought Karen and Gary would like this apartment which is on the market for just under 239 and a
18:57half thousand pounds and given all the positive things they've said so far it's pretty clear that
19:02they do yeah so you're happy with this one yeah it was it was really nice wasn't it it was ticked a lot
19:12boxes yeah yeah the garden pool area was lovely secluded and so close to the actual front door of
19:21the property would you say there are any drawbacks with this one I think just a little bit more work
19:26than the one we saw previously kitchen doors and things like that and perhaps the bathroom needs
19:31updating I think this is a fantastic area we like what we've got around us we've learned that there's a
19:38a couple of supermarkets we'd be able to use that aren't too far so is this one now a contender it
19:44is a contender and I think it is we've discussed is beating the first one has it knocked the other
19:51one out of contention or are you keeping them both on the list I think both we thought it was going to
19:56be tricky to improve on that first one now we've got an even more difficult task how can we improve on
20:02this can't say see views there no you've got your view there if I were to show you something that had
20:10an even better view would you be tempted that'd be something to think you're a magician yeah yeah
20:17come on and follow me things are going really well right now and I still think I can find somewhere
20:25Karen and Gary will like even more with three properties to go but before we visit the next one
20:30we're heading back into Fuenquirola to have a chat with someone who knows all about what life
20:34is like out here in this part of the Costa del Sol now I wanted to introduce the two of you to
20:44Richard because he's moved here already what was it that attracted you to this particular part of Spain
20:50it was the combination of the both the mountains and the seaside here which you don't get in some
20:58other parts of Spain yeah do you use the public transport here oh yes definitely transport was
21:04also very cheap as a resident we have free bus travel within the town itself and there's the
21:10direct train line from Fuenquirola to the airport in Malaga where at the moment you can get a ten
21:17euro ticket which gives you unlimited travel for four months that's crazy we know we know is it easy
21:25to get doctors appointments if you need anything or the Spanish healthcare system is excellent and we've
21:31had no trouble getting either an appointment on the same day or the next day all the doctors and
21:37dentists some speak excellent English so there isn't a language problem thank you so much we're gonna head off
21:43and see our next property now so have a good day okay thank you thank you thank you thank you bye-bye

22:01when they see this stunning panoramic vista today I'm on Spain's glorious central Costa del Sol helping
22:15Karen and Gary look for their perfect holiday home for them and their daughter Chloe and so far I haven't
22:22put a foot wrong my house hunters who have a maximum budget of 240 thousand pounds liked my first property
22:29this ground-floor apartment before absolutely loving my second one this apartment with lovely
22:35sea views and I'm hoping to make that duo of contenders into a trio with property number three
22:41it's in the Arroyo de la Miel district in the seaside town of Benal Madna half an hour stroll from the
22:48beach and well connected to Malaga Airport it's just 45 minutes by train prices in this popular area aren't the
22:55cheapest though so once again I've had to go to the top end of Karen and Gary's budget
23:01now our next property is another apartment and it is one of the ones in the middle but it's the top floor
23:09okay it doesn't attract me as much as the others that we've seen no I don't think it has the same
23:15appeal not for me anyway so it's two bedrooms one bathroom I'm going to say this one requires a lot
23:23less work than the last one okay and obviously you've got this lovely pool area I don't like it as
23:29much as the previous ones we've seen today I think the fence spoils it completely it's on the market
23:35for just under 239 and a half thousand pounds it's probably what I've come to expect I'd love to look
23:41inside and yeah yeah obviously you need to look inside and see what's on offer there as well as access to
23:48the communal pool and gardens this top floor apartment has a balcony with stunning views over
23:54Benal Madna towards the sea and its own parking space inside there's a living and dining room
24:00which opens onto the balcony a spacious separate kitchen the main bedroom which also has great
24:06views a second bedroom with a pull-out bed and a shower room come on in kitchen is through there it's a good
24:16size and the tiles are okay aren't they yeah yeah it's fine and this is your living space again
24:23it's just somewhere you can put your own things your own style I do like just being white though
24:29and of course I'll bypass the room and go straight out there all right let's carry on through then
24:37here you've got both of the bedrooms and bathroom in between it's a big enough space for a again a double
24:45bed or two small ones nice the built-in wardrobes are always useful aren't they
24:52oh and it's a bedroom with a incredible view I don't think anyone would moan sleeping in a room
24:59like this this is what this particular apartment's all about really isn't it that's something else it's a
25:09spectacular view it is so the compromise is obviously the outside space is significantly smaller it's very
25:19the balcony for two three maybe at the max which yes it suits our little family but
25:26if you know friends days and yeah it would maybe be a bit cramped would you sacrifice the space outside
25:34for that view for you it's a no a million dollar question I know so do you want to have a look at the rest
25:44oh yes and then we'll catch up afterwards all right fantastic for sure thank you thank you

27:38both those things however do make it the most affordable area we've been to so far
27:43meaning I've been able to find Karen and Gary a house no less
27:47for a reasonable amount below budget
27:50obviously you are on a holiday resort with all the facilities that you need
27:54you've got restaurants on site you've got a supermarket bakery you know you've got everything that you need here

40:49we have a clear favourite then the townhouse which is on the market for just under £227,000
