00:00And now our third D, which we can all do because we all have our phones, is document.
00:06And this is exactly what I said.
00:07Create a visual documentation of what the harasser is doing.
00:11No cuts, no edits, and you want to be able to provide that footage over to the person being harassed
00:16so that they can use it however they would like.
00:19Yeah, we want to make people feel empowered, you know.
00:22So the next two options in the five Ds is delay, and delay sounds like, hey, are you okay?
00:26Like after it happened, we go up to the person and we say, we noticed what this person just said.
00:31I'm not okay with it.
00:32You want me to walk with you?
00:33Like, I'm here with you.
00:34And sometimes a person may feel really alone in a space, like when that happens.
00:40And so if you walk up to them and you say, I just saw that.
00:43It's not okay.
00:43They're going to feel really good.
00:45The last one here is direct, and direct is exactly as it sounds.
00:48What does direct sound like?
00:50Direct sounds like, I know you didn't just do that.
00:52Right, that's not okay.
00:54You see me standing here?
00:55Yeah.
00:55Y'all see that?
00:56We're not going to do that.
00:57You know, I'm not going to play the games.
00:59I'm not going to distract.
00:59I'm going to tell you what you're doing is weird.
01:01It's wrong.
01:02And it's not going to happen, not with me in this presence.
01:05Let's do a little review.
01:06What do you think?
01:07Yeah, we can do a little pop quiz, see what you guys retain from our five Ds.
01:11So raise your hand if you find yourself, you're going to be a little bit, you're going
01:15to distract.
01:17That's your one to do.
01:19I see one right here.
01:20Some folks over here.
01:21I see a couple.
01:22What about delegate?
01:23What about delegate?
01:24Do you have delegate?
01:25Okay, get somebody else to do it.
01:27I see.
01:28What about document?
01:29Who would record?
01:31Yes, record.
01:32Yes, yes.
01:33Share the footage.
01:34I like that.
01:35What about delay?
01:36Who's going to check in and be like, girl, I'm sorry.
01:38Like, that was wrong.
01:39Who's going to check in after?
01:40See some check-ins up here.
01:41We like that.
01:42Yeah.
01:42And direct.
01:43And who am I needing leaks?
01:44Who's going to tell it like it is?
01:46Straight up?
01:46Yeah.
01:47That's my go-to, too.
01:49I said what I said.
01:51I said what I said, and that's not going to apply.
01:53Listen, folks.
01:54We're so excited to be here.
01:55It's the second year we get to do this in this space.
01:58And we're just so grateful we get to come in a beautiful space like this and talk to you
02:01about this.
02:02Check out our website, write2beat.org.
02:04Get trained.
02:05We got free training.
02:06Share this with your loved ones.
02:07If you've got people in your life you care about, spread the 5Ds.
02:10They're really useful and really easy to apply on a day-to-day.
02:14All right.
02:14That's all.
02:16Bye, everybody.
02:18I said what I said.
02:37Yes, child.
02:44I love, I love.
02:45It's so hard being a baddie in action these days.
02:48So thank you to L'Oreal for them tips on how to stop people from catcalling the baddies,
02:51okay?
02:52How we feeling, y'all?
02:53We feeling good?
02:54I see some more beautiful faces filling up in Sydney.
02:56How we doing?
02:57We feeling hot and sexy and young and hot and sexy and fine?
03:02Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, cute.
03:03So coming up next, we have some creator royalty in the building, okay?
03:06You know we bring the finest out for SSGU, this creator house, so we have some of the
03:11biggest, and the biggest right now coming up.
03:14Oh, one second, like, damn, let me get to it, like, okay?
03:19You know and love her as one of the biggest streamers and content creators in the Twitch
03:22universe, who has also grown her social media following to over 5 billion.
03:26Hold on, 5 billion, we manifesting that.
03:295 million, though, combined across TikTok and Instagram, okay?
03:33She's here today to tell us how Twitch is revolutionizing the way we engage with content,
03:36connect with audience, and reshaping the future of streaming.
03:40To join her, we also have, I love, I can't be professional with this, but we have the
03:44baddest bitch, Nadi Howard, and it's like, joining her, okay?
03:47She is joining her.
03:48She is the Essence VP of Content to give us her perspective and tips about navigating
03:53her creative and corporate identity, and she does it very well, okay?
03:56Without doing a cold switch, and she making sexy, okay?
03:59So everybody, please welcome the one and only Zoe Spencer, along with Essence Vice President
04:03of Content, Nadi Howard, and Essence Social Media Manager, Ryan Sampson.
04:11Hey, y'all, what's goody?
04:13You got it, girl.
04:26Hey, G-Creators House.
04:27Hey, hey.
04:28I'm really excited for this conversation, because it's truly for everybody, the girls
04:32who are in corporate, the girls who are creators.
04:35This is a very robust conversation, so take notes, listen to what the girls gotta say, and
04:39let's get into it.
04:40So Zoe, my first question is for you, my girl.
04:44So streaming live means that people see the unfiltered sides of you, the wins, the awkward
04:49moments, the losses, the hard days.
04:51How has showing up in real time shaped how you see yourself as a creator?
04:56Well, so as a Twitch streamer, it's where I get to be my authentic self, I get to be who
05:03I am, you know, without, you know, anybody.
05:08I'm sorry, I got a little nervous, guys.
05:10Don't be nervous.
05:11Don't be nervous.
05:11A lot of the people in this room love you, girl.
05:14Don't, there's nothing to be nervous about you.
05:14Wait, hold on.
05:15I gotta say something.
05:16Isn't this so funny?
05:17They be twitching for 500,000 people.
05:20I know, but it's different because y'all all looking at me, and I'm looking at y'all,
05:23I got right here.
05:25Girl, you won't twitch at this point.
05:26Okay, twitch live.
05:29Give it to me again, girl.
05:32You're good.
05:33How has showing up in real time shaped how you see yourself as a creator?
05:37People are able to see all sides of you.
05:40Like she just said, you're streaming kind of constantly, and so there's really no room
05:45to hide your personality, but truly, how do you, you know, just show up as yourself?
05:50Well, it's the time where I get to be confident, genuine.
05:55It has built me up to be, connect with people, create a family, because basically, like my
06:03chat, the people that's in the chat with me and live looking at me, they're like a little
06:09family, so it has definitely boosted my confidence.
06:13It has made me feel so much more genuine, and get to just like really tap into like myself.
06:18Like it's like even made me love myself way more, period.
06:22Exactly.
06:22I know.
06:25And so switching gears, I told you it's a little something for everybody.
06:28Nandi, you've built your name in this industry by being bold and unapologetic, and Nandi
06:32is my co-worker.
06:33Nandi will tell it like it is.
06:35She does not sugarcoat, but how, you know, standing out in this space isn't easy, especially
06:40when you're working for, you know, a legacy magazine.
06:42So how do you intentionally carve out your own lane as a black woman, a young black woman
06:47in media?
06:48Yeah, I mean, like she said, I'm very unapologetic, and you know, sometimes my co-workers
06:52have to level set me a little bit, but I think it's just like being your authentic self no
06:57matter what, and like as long as you handle it with grace and you own up to the things
07:00that you're doing, right?
07:01Like we're not all perfect, but like when you come into this corporate space, you have
07:05to be yourself.
07:06Like I'm not really a co-switcher.
07:08This is how I act at work.
07:09This is how I act with my friends.
07:10This is how I act with my mama and my family.
07:11So it's very much just like, I think, being your authentic self in all places, especially
07:17in that corporate world, and people will gravitate towards you and just give yourself grace, and
07:22if your boss says you shouldn't have said that, then you shouldn't have said that.
07:28And that's what she meant.
07:29She said what she said.
07:30So Zoe, back to you.
07:32So for creators who are used to short form content, I feel like for a long time that was
07:36pushed, but streamers have really come in and really kind of changed up the format.
07:40But it can feel intimidating for people who, you know, who want to do it or are coming
07:44into it.
07:45But what's one myth you'd bust about going live or entering the streaming space?
07:49And what advice can you give creators who want to ease into it?
07:52Okay, so one myth that is super in the Twitch world is being perfect.
08:00You do not have to be perfect.
08:02You do not have to be on your P's and Q's.
08:04People are like really scared of streaming, and I don't know why.
08:09Well, I mean, I do understand why, because I'm up here and I got scared.
08:13So, but it's just, you don't have to be perfect.
08:16It's somewhere where you can be yourself.
08:18The chat, the people that are in there, they want the raw.
08:21They want to see the bonnet.
08:23They want to see the hoodies.
08:24They want to see all of that.
08:25So, it's just.
08:26So, it's just.
