00:00We have an amazing, amazing panel for you next.
00:03Now, the person that we are highlighting is an amazing man.
00:08You all know him.
00:09He is a businessman and an icon.
00:13He's New Orleans legend.
00:14He's a rapper.
00:15He's a producer, a recording executive, and the ultimate entrepreneur.
00:20And today he's going to join us on stage with some amazing, amazing notables.
00:24One is my friend.
00:25He's also going to be hitting the Superdome on Sunday night performing.
00:29But right now he's here to join us on stage, the Essence Stage, right here.
00:34Please make some noise for the man himself, the one, the only, Master P.
00:42And joining Master P, we have Derwin Scott, Sarita Steve, Zach Jackson, Spectacular Smith, and my friend, Barku Tubman.
00:53What up, Master P?
00:56All right, I'm going to let you take it away.
00:59I'm going to let you take it away.
01:08Whoa, whoa, whoa.
01:09Hi, everybody.
01:11Y'all, this is Master P.
01:14In New Orleans.
01:15Like, this is Master P.
01:18Y'all know we all grew up on Master P.
01:22Not just the music, but what he's done for culture.
01:27So we say thank you.
01:32I just want to say thanks to everybody out there.
01:36I love y'all.
01:38And we came a long way.
01:40And we're constantly growing up and constantly getting better.
01:44Clearly.
01:44Yeah.
01:45Because, you know, he a businessman.
01:48Like, he don't play about his city.
01:50He don't play about his community.
01:51So that's why you see these other people here on stage with him.
01:54He's like, we're not doing this unless I bring the other people that do what we do for the community.
02:00So, P, you built an empire that spans music, film, food, sports, and more.
02:07When you first started No Limit Records, did you ever imagine it and you would grow to be this?
02:17No, y'all.
02:18I was just a kid growing up in the Calio projects in New Orleans.
02:23Me and my brother, Baz, is like we started with nothing.
02:26And just to be able to still be here with him, I know that God is real.
02:33This is an amazing journey.
02:35And I appreciate God for this.
02:37But I can't wait to go to be able to coach and be president of basketball operations at the University of New Orleans.
02:45Come on.
02:47Think about it.
02:48This never happened in hip-hop, right?
02:50Well, we could do something like this to educate and create future leaders and to be able to do this.
02:57I can't.
02:59Yeah, yeah.
02:59Free my brother.
03:00And it's all about.
03:01Free Sarita.
03:02Yeah.
03:03And it's time.
03:04But to have my cousin here right here.
03:06Yes.
03:07Sarita, with all she do for the women that have been incarcerated.
03:10Sarita, tell them about what you do because this is incredible.
03:12I was about to go to Sarita because I know Sarita.
03:15Yes.
03:15She's a force.
03:17Sarita, tell us what you do, why you do it, and how people can actually even connect with you.
03:24Yeah.
03:24So I run an organization here in New Orleans.
03:26It's a national organization.
03:28It's called Operation Restoration.
03:30And it focuses on currently and formerly incarcerated women and girls and helping them to transition into society after incarceration.
03:37The reason why I started the organization is because at 19, I went to prison.
03:42I was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
03:45And I served nine years and two months.
03:47And when I was released at the age of 29, there just were no services available for women.
03:53Because when we have conversations about incarceration, mass incarceration, we often think of men and black men.
03:58But we don't realize that the incarceration rate of women has risen 800% in the last 40 years.
04:05And women are going to prison currently at a rate of 2 to 1 for men.
04:10And there's a statistic that says that a woman, a black woman released from prison, that 44% will not have a job for five years.
04:19So it's not canned.
04:21They will not have a job for five years.
04:23So all the work that I do is to try to interrupt those statistics, help women get back on their feet.
04:28Because it's my belief that if you right-size women and you support women to be their best selves, we'll save the world.
04:36Give it up.
04:38And look, think about this, y'all, what she just said.
04:41And I look at it, right?
04:43You know black women is the most to graduate from college?
04:48Tell them.
04:49But think about it, y'all, we only make a tenth of 1% of Fortune 500 CEOs of corporations.
04:58We have to change that narrative and educate and plan and grow and be able to help these women get to the next level.
05:06And I just think that us teaching each other, growing, and to have women like this around,
05:14that even though she had a situation, we all are growing and get better.
05:18But she got out and changed her life and it gave back to help these women.
05:22And she's constantly doing it.
05:23So y'all give her a round of applause.
05:25Give it up for Sarita.
05:28Okay, so who else you got with you?
05:29I got Mr. Spectacular.
05:31You know, he went from...
05:32Spectacular.
05:33You know what, to be honest with y'all, me and Spectacular met.
05:36He went from doing music to he was telling me about MySpace and all this stuff, the internet,
05:43and like how he could change the game.
05:45And I'm like, man, how do you do that?
05:47But we got together and me and his brother has changed so many lives and watched so many people grow
05:53and create so many multi-millionaires.
05:56And it's just a blessing because you can't be afraid to grow up and change and do something else.
06:00So he used the music industry to go and open up something else.
06:05So get his brother a round of applause.
06:07I'm proud of him.
06:08So Mr. Spectacular, tell us, one, what motivated you, what continues to motivate you, but what are you doing?
06:17Like, you know, why understanding tech, right?
06:19Because, you know, tech is the future, right?
06:22Like, what drove you to that?
06:25Well, my mom was a single mom with four kids.
06:28And I saw her struggle.
06:29She had my brother at 16, had me at 17.
06:34And I saw what she went through, Section 8, housing.
06:38She had WIC, government assistance.
06:40And I said, I never want to see nobody go through that ever again.
06:43I was a kid selling candy to help my mom actually pay bills.
06:46And seeing her crying at night and wiping tears from my eyes, telling my mom it would be okay as I was a kid.
06:52And from that point forward, I said, how can I get back to the community?
06:55How can I serve people and mothers that's in the same situations that I can help them as a single mom and help mentor their kids because they're fatherless?
07:04And that's what made me think, like, how can I do that?
07:07And it was through education.
07:08And God took me on this journey for me to be able to understand why I'm on this planet.
07:13And for everybody that's out here, you guys have an opportunity to pour into other people.
07:18You have a skill set.
07:19You have blessings that God bless you with to bless others to take what you have as an empty cup and fill it up to others and pour from your overflow.
07:28And that's what I realized that I can do.
07:32And when I met Master P, I was hard-headed.
07:36I thought I knew it all.
07:37I didn't listen.
07:38And it stung me at the end.
07:40And I had to come back to him humble and say, you know what?
07:44You was right.
07:45And that's when I realized that mentorship is everything.
07:48Who is someone who's already been where you want to be, who can prove and lay out the blueprint for you,
07:53and all you got to do is follow the breadcrumbs to success, and then you get the result that you're looking for because they have it.
08:00So why bust your head trying to figure out how to do it when they already have the game plan?
08:05Success loves speed.
08:07So we got to move fast.
08:08We got to stop passing over every opportunity repeatedly.
08:12That is poor.
08:14That's a poor mentality.
08:15I'm not talking about poor financially.
08:17I'm talking about poor mentally because every opportunity, God bless you,
08:21where you keep passing over it, and you're wondering why you can't get to where you got to go.
08:25Listen, they about to call him Pastor Spectacular in a minute.
08:30That's a word, and that's real, right?
08:32And I love where you pull your mom.
08:33I'm a mom, so, you know, I'm a mom, thankfully not single because I would have been going nuts.
08:38So to think about this, right, if you're going to be in business, you have to have a why.
08:44Absolutely.
08:45And so for me, everybody want to be successful, but they really don't want to put the work in,
08:49and they don't realize why they're doing it.
08:51They think you got to be the most talented person in the world.
08:54I tell people all the time, 10% is talent, 90% is business marketing.
09:00So you have to know that if you put your trust in faith and go up,
09:04but also you got to realize faith without work is dead.
09:07Dead.
09:08And nothing is just going to fall out the sky.
09:10Get out there and go for these dreams.
09:12Chase it.
09:13And think about it.
09:14Don't block your blessings.
09:15And if you make it, so all of us up here, right, when we get and do something,
09:19my motto is the more I make, the more I give.
09:22I turned into a basketball coach and taken over the University of New Orleans
09:25because I want to save other kids that look like me.
09:28I want them to be successful.
09:29I want them to be educated.
09:31And then I met this brother here, and I want you to introduce yourself,
09:33because he created floors, and it's bigger than floors.
09:37He came to my school at the University of New Orleans.
09:40Nobody wanted to give us anything.
09:42The state didn't give us anything.
09:43I put my own money up, fixed this place up,
09:46and I can't wait until November 8th is going to be our first game here.
09:50November 8th.
09:50But this man came into the locker rooms and made our locker rooms look so fresh.
09:54But introduce yourself and tell them about your business.
09:58Hey, so how y'all doing?
10:01I'm Derwin.
10:02I'm CEO and artist of a company called DSD Painters,
10:05and I specialize on custom abstract flooring
10:09that goes over the surface of all kind of tile, hardwood, floor, but it's artsy.
10:16I pretty much learned this probably about six to seven years ago,
10:19taught myself how to separate myself from the rest of the people who come from this industry,
10:23and then I started to teach it.
10:25So from all the interior, the inspiring entrepreneurs from 16 on up,
10:33I teach them how to scale and grow their business in the epoxy coatings industry.
10:37We traveled all around the world to do what we do.
10:40From, I came from selling my paintings on the streets first
10:44to tapping into the epoxy coatings and just blowing it up, man,
10:48and we took it all over the place.
10:50No experience needed, whether it's your background is, you know,
10:55you come from the streets or you come from the college background.
10:59We're the ones that really walk you through it and get you in this industry.
11:03You don't have to be a licensed contractor.
11:05You don't have to be experienced in this industry or nothing,
11:08and we walk you through it.
11:09It's been a dope journey so far, for sure.
11:12Give that man a round of applause.
11:13Listen, I'm just smiling because the future of black looks really great
11:18without y'all up here.
11:19That's what I'm going to say.
11:21Like, you got the A-team sitting next to you here.
11:24Yes, because I want y'all to know that they can't stop us
11:29if we let God lead us on this journey, and this is bigger than us.
11:34When you look at this, y'all, right, we all about empowering us.
11:38And so the way we do it is giving us opportunity.
11:41If anybody gives me an opportunity, I'm thankful, I'm blessed, I appreciate it
11:45because opportunities don't come for us all the time, right?
11:48And what he's doing with these floors is so incredible.
11:51But there's other brothers from New Orleans, just a black man,
11:54and we wear all these other people glasses and their shades and everything.
11:57But my brother, introduce yourself and tell them about your brand.
12:01I'm Zakari, co-founder of Jack Hutton.
12:04So what we set out to do is create luxury sunglasses and accessories.
12:09Growing up in New Orleans from a single mother,
12:12didn't really have access to high-end things like, you know, these brands.
12:17I don't want to name any brands.
12:18But I always aspired to provide these brands to the youth
12:22and let these youth be able to wear these brands and afford them, the high material.
12:28So we set out to create a brand that will sit next to the highest brands in your closet, you know.
12:34I know, that's right.
12:35Majority black owned.
12:36We always talk about our culture, but we rarely own a piece of it.
12:39So this is us getting our own piece, sitting at the table,
12:42having an independently owned fashion house, homegrown right here in New Orleans.
12:47Y'all give them a round of applause.
12:48I see you got something on the floor.
12:51What is that you got on the floor?
12:52Oh, yeah.
12:53So these are 100% titanium.
12:55We source the highest materials.
12:57These polarized, you know, any quality you would think in a high-end glasses.
13:03We also spend a lot of time developing our packaging, our cases.
13:08Everything is, like, got great detail.
13:10So this is something everyone would cherish forever in their household.
13:14I actually got my team passing out some pairs.
13:16Y'all give them a round of applause, y'all.
13:18Hold on.
13:19Can I see the glasses?
13:21Oh, yeah.
13:21Absolutely.
13:21Absolutely.
13:23Because I like glasses.
13:24You can visit us at BuyJackCutton.com and follow us on Instagram.
13:29Hi, I look.
13:29Oh, yeah.
13:30That's nice.
13:30You look good, Barkle.
13:31That's a good look.
13:32Oh, these are hot.
13:33Look, I can see myself.
13:34I look good.
13:36You do look good.
13:37I do look good.
13:38You look good.
13:39I do look good.
13:39I just want to say, while they're passing it out, I'm going to come back to all of you
13:44because, you know, our goal is also this, these, they look good and they feel good.
13:49So if you're lucky enough to get one, if you're unlucky enough to get one, make sure you're
13:53lucky enough to buy one because none of this works if we don't support each other.
13:57Absolutely.
13:58Because we're spending our money.
13:59We are spending our money, people.
14:01Let's make sure we spend it with people that invest back in ourselves, right?
14:05In our community.
14:06So I do want to ask all of you because I love where you talk about the purpose and your
14:11why, right?
14:12And I know you said it as it relates to business, but I think as you wake up, as God blesses
14:17us with life every day, you got to have something that motivates you, right?
14:22We always talk about our personal brand statement.
14:25People always say, when you meet somebody in the elevator, what is your elevator pitch?
14:29If you got that 60 seconds to talk to somebody and the way people stay engaged is because
14:34they connect to your why.
14:36Right?
14:36So I'm going to ask all of you just really quickly, you know, with everybody here, what
14:41advice, and I'm going to end with you, but you got this amazing accessory brand.
14:48You guys are all doing stuff in the community.
14:50You're successful.
14:52You're driven by community.
14:54And as we say, in essence, the revolution must be financed.
14:57So they're not sitting up here.
14:58It took work for them to do this work, right?
15:00So we got to invest in them.
15:01What advice would you give the audience to walk away from here and say, if you do one
15:06thing when you leave here, what should they do to get them on their road to success?
15:11I'm going to start with you.
15:12I would say start where you are, but don't stay there.
15:16You know, like overcome those obstacles.
15:19Keep that resilience.
15:21And if you're an underdog, just keep fighting, keep fighting, keep fighting.
15:23Don't take no for an answer.
15:24Y'all give him a round of applause.
15:28Give it up.
15:28Right.
15:29That's facts.
15:31And me, for me, I feel like condition yourself to run with your gift because your gift is
15:38something that can be, your gift can actually grow to be bigger than you.
15:43And if you're not mentally and physically prepared to run with your gift, you'll fumble.
15:48Yes.
15:49So always be mindful of it.
15:51I love that.
15:52And you know, the beauty of what you just said that I love is, your gift is your gift.
15:56Can't nobody take that from you?
15:58Yes.
15:58You don't got to worry about your gift.
16:00I don't have to, you don't have to, like, yours is yours.
16:02That's how God does it.
16:03I love that.
16:03Run with your gift.
16:06Hold on.
16:06Y'all got to give him a round of applause because that's incredible.
16:10Your new name is Pastor Spectacular.
16:13Come on, Pastor Spectacular.
16:14Let's go.
16:14For me, I think that it doesn't matter how you started, it matters how you end.
16:26Facts.
16:26And you can't focus on your future worrying about your past.
16:31So everything that you went through, everything that you're going through right now, God is
16:36blessing you with a lesson in that tragedy.
16:39So you got to figure out what exactly do you want in life and who are the people that's
16:44going to help you get there.
16:46And that's why Master P and I, we came up with this academy, Spectacular Academy, to help
16:53serve the people.
16:54We're here to create a million millionaires, to impact a billion people financially, mentally,
16:58and spiritually.
16:59So we got an opportunity.
17:01If you guys do want to have it, we have it for free for you guys to have an opportunity.
17:06I want y'all to take y'all phone out right now and go to socialmediancomemasterclass.com.
17:12Say it again.
17:13Say it again.
17:13Socialmediancomemasterclass.com.
17:18It's absolutely free.
17:20You guys can go to it or DM me IamSpectacular on Instagram, Essence.
17:24If you completely want to change your life, create generational wealth.
17:29And operate from your overflow.
17:32If you guys want to operate from your overflow, say overflow.
17:35Overflow.
17:35And that's exactly what I want you guys to do.
17:37So I can't wait to see you guys in class and literally change you and your family life
17:42so you can leave a legacy for your kids.
17:45I love that.
17:46Give it up.
17:47Y'all give it up for Spectacular.
17:50Sarita.
17:52So I just have two quick things.
17:55One, you cannot talk about dreams with people that don't know how to dream.
18:02What, what, what, what?
18:03Sarita, you got to say that again.
18:04You got to say it loud for the people in the back because that's important.
18:07In the back.
18:07All the way in the back?
18:08All the way in the back.
18:08All right.
18:09You cannot talk about your dreams with people that do not know how to dream.
18:15Wow.
18:16That's big.
18:17Because you're going to kill them.
18:19Right?
18:20The second thing is, is that take some time to understand and figure out some people who
18:26are the first to do something.
18:28Me and Master P. Percy have the opportunity to have witness inside of our family.
18:37Our grandfather was the first black police officer in New Orleans.
18:41My mom was the first black attorney in the parish where we grew up.
18:45So when I said something, I didn't have somebody telling me, oh, someone has never done that
18:50before.
18:51So it can't be done.
18:52So take some time, spend some time finding people who were the first to do something.
18:58Read about them.
18:59Learn their history.
19:00So when you do come up with an idea or you dream about something, nobody can tell you that,
19:06oh, it can't happen because it's never happened before because you'll have all of these people
19:11who have created something for the first time.
19:13You can look at the street light, the light bulb, the internet, whatever.
19:17All of these things didn't exist until somebody created it.
19:20So tap into your creativity and don't allow anybody to tell you what you can't do.
19:26You just let them know you ain't did it yet, but you're coming.
19:30That part.
19:31Yeah.
19:32What are you going to do?
19:33So, you know, you've been doing it.
19:37You've been walking the walk.
19:38You talk the talk.
19:39We see it.
19:40We need wrap snacks.
19:42You know, we got it.
19:43Listen, you've taken us on a journey and you're still going, right?
19:47I've never seen that.
19:48Listen, I had the opportunity this year, obviously grew up with your music, know who you are,
19:55but getting to engage with you gave me a sense of pride because you started always from community.
20:07Yes.
20:08Your culture.
20:09Yes.
20:10Entrepreneurship.
20:11Yes.
20:11It can't just only be me.
20:13You got to come see what I'm doing.
20:15We're going to be going in community with Master P and this team to really serve the community
20:20because that was top of your list.
20:21And I applaud you and I thank you for that.
20:23But everybody loves to follow you because you've been successful.
20:27You are successful.
20:28You're doing things that nobody has done before.
20:31You got to give us some words of wisdom because we got to walk out of here knowing
20:35we got to be able to change our lives first.
20:40So for me, y'all, don't have a poor mentality mindset.
20:46When you have a poor mentality mindset, you would never win.
20:51And we don't learn from wins.
20:53We learn from losses.
20:54And I say we learn.
20:56We don't lose.
20:57We learn.
20:58That's right.
20:58Also, don't do nothing for money.
21:00Think about it.
21:02If you just get up in the morning and you're just doing it for the money, you don't have
21:05no purpose and you don't love it, you would never be successful at this.
21:10The most important thing is put God in everything you do and do it with integrity.
21:17Because without that, no matter what happens, no matter whether it's family members, friends,
21:23it don't matter, right?
21:24This is your dream, like Sarita said.
21:26Everybody is not supposed to go on that ride with you.
21:31And think about it.
21:32Some stuff is seasonal and some relationships is forever.
21:39But when you got God, everybody put your fists up if you believe in God.
21:44God is good.
21:46All the time.
21:47God is good.
21:48All the time.
21:49I love y'all, man.
21:50With that type of attitude, you're going to be successful because I want to be successful
21:55as bad as I want to breathe.
21:57Woo!
21:59Listen.
22:00Y'all taking us to church up on here.
22:03Yes.
22:04Pastor P as well.
22:06Listen.
22:08Listen.
22:09I can have this conversation for another hour plus.
22:14I just want you all to tell everybody how they can connect with you because it doesn't matter
22:20if we don't make this connection.
22:22Really important.
22:24So how do we connect with you?
22:25What are your social handles?
22:27Where we can find you?
22:28Is there a store?
22:29Is it online?
22:30Tell us.
22:31Remind us.

22:48Y'all can follow me on Instagram.
22:51It's DSD Paintings.
22:53That stands for doing something different.
22:56DSD Paintings.
22:57If y'all want to get any of the game on learning this floors in Cody's industry.
23:02And then as far as the website, if you're looking to get floors done and design for your
23:06home or your commercial space, you can tap into DSDPaintings.com.
23:14For me, it's I Am Spectacular on all platforms.
23:19It was, y'all see a little kid running around on Snapchat where I Am Spectacular just tell him
23:24I'm looking for him.
23:25You know, he took my name.
23:26But yeah, I Am Spectacular on that.
23:29And then also, we do do Bible study every Tuesday.
23:32So if y'all want to come to my Bible study, SpectacularBibleStudy.com is free.
23:37Come serve God with us.
23:38What time is the Bible study on Tuesday?
23:40It is 5 p.m. PST.
23:42Okay, okay.
23:44That's amazing.
23:44Every Tuesday.
23:45Every Tuesday.
23:46Okay.
23:47On social media, my organization is Operation Restoration on all platforms.
23:54So you can follow us.
23:55I'm sorry, y'all.
24:00My left vocal card doesn't work well, so I cough sometimes.
24:03You're okay.
24:04We should have had you some water.
24:06So Operation Restoration on all platforms.
24:08And then also, my name is Sarita Stibb if you want to follow me personally.
24:14Tomorrow, y'all can come see us at UNO Lakefront Arena.
24:17We have a community event.
24:19We're doing free breast cancer screenings, free cardiovascular health for black heart health.
24:25We'll have some dental screenings.
24:27We'll have a basketball camp for the kids, food trucks, DJs, second line, true New Orleans style.
24:34We'll be out there from 9 to 5 at UNO Lakefront Arena tomorrow, so y'all can come and visit with us in person.
24:40We're also going to have financial literacy also, so make sure you come, and I'm sure they're going to be there.
24:48Well, y'all can follow me at University of New Orleans.
24:56But also, y'all, today is about, not about us.
25:02It's about y'all, and it's about building God's kingdom.
25:05My most important job is to be a servant, and I just want to serve my city.
25:10Everything that I'm doing, this is for the city.
25:13And I hope that people understand that we can help the next generation and educate the next generation,
25:18then we're going to be all right because we can't take none of this with us.
25:22This life here is temporary.
25:24And what I love about this, for me to be able to educate our culture and our people, and I'm not perfect.
25:31Think about it.
25:31If I didn't go through the things I went through, I couldn't be able to show somebody to be an expert at financial literacy
25:38or the things that I went through because you had to lose, too.
25:41So life is like a seesaw.
25:42It go up and down.
25:44And so long as you keep your trust and faith in God, you could overcome anything.
25:48So, y'all, follow me on this journey with me changing my life.
25:51I just love y'all, man.
25:53Follow me on this.
25:54Yeah.
25:54And don't be afraid to let me grow up, y'all.
25:56We're going to turn up one last time.
25:58Yeah.
25:59And then let me go to be a coach so I can help y'all kids because my coach saved my life, right?
26:05I'm talking to a guy.
26:06He said he was the only white guy in the Cali-O and people took care of him, right?
26:11This is crazy because I'm a guy come from the Cali-O which nobody believed that I was going to be successful.
26:18It was people telling me I wasn't going to be nothing.
26:20But I kept going.
26:21I kept saying I'm going to prove him wrong and I'm going to show him.
26:26And my why was from my grandma that I wanted to take her out of the projects.
26:29And I just love the people that support me that's here.
26:33Like I said, from Baz to Jugger to Erica to my whole team to Paul.
26:38This is how I met the guy, Jag hugging with his glasses, right?
26:42Like Paul came, this is a guy that just came with a good heart and helped me paint these walls, rebuild a lot of this stuff, man.
26:52Didn't I met this guy away from Maryland?
26:54So you just don't have to be from New Orleans.
26:56We're connecting all these great people together.
26:58And I'm telling y'all, we are dangerous together.
27:01They can't stop us together.
27:03So we all we got, y'all.
27:05I love y'all, man.
27:06This is so important in which you just believing in us and trusting in us and having faith, even when the enemy, the enemy don't want to see us.
27:15Because guess what, y'all?
27:16We're about to do something so big that the devil can't even stop it.
27:20The devil can't stop what we're about to do.
27:22We're about to do something big.
27:23I know.
27:24That's right.
27:24I love y'all, man.
27:25Salute to all my real soldiers.
27:27I can't wait to see y'all Sunday.
27:30I got to do it with you.
27:35Okay, on three, we get to say, huh, with Master P.
27:38On three.
27:39One, two, three.
27:40Make him say, oh, come on.
27:47Thank you all for investing in yourself, for being here, supporting Essence, supporting the culture, supporting the community, because we made like this.
27:54We love us.
27:55See you on Sunday.
27:57See you tonight.
27:58See you on Saturday.
28:05See you on Saturday.
