00:00Fire up the beast.
00:04Hello, it's me, Guzcan, chameleon off the TV.
00:10What you may not know is that I am an absolutely obsessed petrohead.
00:18But here's the thing, when it comes to cars, I have always been a purist.
00:23I think cars should remain as original, fresh from the showroom floor.
00:26Why mess with perfection?
00:27But lately, I've been looking at things I shouldn't have been.
00:32Modified cars.
00:34Them big wings.
00:36Wide arches.
00:38Turbo swaps.
00:39I know it's wrong, but it feels so right.
00:42So I've made a decision.
00:43My next whip is going to be a fully modified masterpiece.
00:47All my own vision, all my own money.
00:50£2,600 for the two.
00:54Well, I'm a novice in this game.
00:56I have zero technical skill.
00:58But fear not.
00:59That's why I'm bringing along my big brain best friend to help us out.
01:03Lumball.
01:06Oh, spit serious.
01:08I like it.
01:08I'm meeting the kings and queens of car modification all across this great nation.
01:18Naughty car.
01:19Naughty car, bro.
01:21Oh.
01:22I'm trying to peek under their hoods.
01:24Pump it.
01:25Pump it, Ian.
01:25Pick up their skills.
01:27I think my shirt got burned.
01:28And learn their sacred secrets.
01:30Bro, dude, we talk about Elon Musk.
01:32We found a real genius in a random shed in Northampton.
01:36And when my masterpiece is finally finished, I'll reveal it to the most hardcore modification nerds on the planet.
01:433, 2, 1.
01:47Oh, my God.
01:51What could possibly go wrong?
01:53A lot, actually.
01:55Yeah, a lot.
01:55All right now, pay attention.
02:04This is what's commonly known as a recap.
02:07Here we go.
02:08So, I went and bought myself a shiny S2000.
02:12Stock, basically as untouched as the day it left Honda's factory back in 2007.
02:17But we've been very busy with the mods.
02:20Starting with a naughty exhaust.
02:23Carbon fiber buckets against the roll cage and a shed load of new speakers to go with the upgraded stereo.
02:33That's a big improvement.
02:34That was worth the wait, bro.
02:41I'm just happy to be with you in a car with no roof.
02:44This is bringing back memories when we were young.
02:48Erections would come freely.
02:50You know what I mean?
02:50Like, you wouldn't even have to worry about your thang, thang, thang, thang.
02:53Now, that's right.
02:55You got a car right there, look, right there, look.
02:56Where?
02:57Right there, look on the right.
02:58That is a skip.
02:59That's an A-A-A, look, man.
03:00Look, look, look, here.
03:01As if you said I called a skipper's car.
03:02That is a yellow skip, man.
03:04I thought you...
03:05What is that?
03:10A yellow skip.
03:11A yellow skip.
03:12I said yellow car.
03:13I can't tell if he's cheating or he's colour blind.
03:16But either way, it's not filling me with confidence for this next modification.
03:21You see, currently the S2000 is a bland and boring silver snooze fest.
03:26And I want to make a statement.
03:28You've seen how a brother dresses.
03:29So I'm going to do a full colour makeover.
03:33But painting this thing would take forever and cost much more than my missus is going
03:37to allow me to spend.
03:38So we are going to wrap it.
03:40Dee, boy, bros, Dee.
03:41Hey, guys.
03:42Hey, listen, we set the mission, innit?
03:44The mission was go through the swatches.
03:47Yeah.
03:48And pick what you think would most appropriately suit this car, but not just that, appropriately
03:54suit your boy's vibe.
03:56Dee, what you got for us?
03:57This is my choice.
03:58Something different, something rich in colour.
04:01Yeah.
04:01Nice, sexy.
04:03We've got a little bit of purple, we've got a little bit of blue.
04:05It's a colour flip.
04:06It's different.
04:06Yeah.
04:07Rich colours.
04:07I think it does suit the car.
04:09Okay, nice, Lumball.
04:10Ooh, I'm excited.
04:11Let's see what you guys are on already.
04:12Go ahead.
04:12Let's see.
04:13I gave him a whole week to do.
04:14Oh.
04:16Official name is Alligator Glacier.
04:19What is that?
04:20A textured...
04:22Alligator.
04:22Alligator skin.
04:24That's got to look mad.
04:25Look at this.
04:26It's different.
04:27Can you imagine that?
04:27You'll be the only person with an S2000.
04:29There's a reason?
04:30With alligator skin.
04:30In alligator white gloss.
04:34One week you've had and this is what you come up with.
04:36I have option two as well.
04:37It better be significantly better than one.
04:39This one.
04:41Look at this.
04:42Leather black gloss.
04:44If this is your way of telling me you need a new selfie, then holler me.
04:46I'll get you one, bro.
04:47I love you.
04:48Look.
04:49See the vision.
04:50That'll look like an old man's briefcase.
04:51This looks like an old man's testicles.
04:55Look at this.
04:56That's why.
04:57It hasn't moisturized in months.
05:01I don't know what I was expecting, but I certainly wasn't discovering the lumber who has a leather fetish.
05:05I need to take control of this madness.
05:08I was thinking something unique.
05:12Yeah, for God's sake.
05:13I was thinking something that's going to hit us in a two-tone.
05:17Oh, I've never seen that on an S2000.
05:19All right.
05:19What you got?
05:21Oh.
05:22That's nice.
05:24That is really nice.
05:25Yeah.
05:26Can you see?
05:27Whoa.
05:27That's...
05:27It's green.
05:28No, it's gold.
05:29It's gold.
05:30Come on this way.
05:31That's like a green.
05:34That's like a burgundy.
05:36Paint protection film as well.
05:37Is that good?
05:38Yeah.
05:38Why?
05:39I mean, it's more expensive, but it's a better quality film.
05:41It's PPF.
05:42So you're telling me that this PPF will make it look less like it's a wrap?
05:47Yeah.
05:48And pull off more of a paint feeling?
05:49It will look more like paint.
05:50I love it.
05:51Two choices have been made today.
05:52Number one, never let Lumbu get involved in the process of picking wrap for anybody's vehicle.
05:58You're going to turn up with your nan's sofa that she left in the skip.
06:01Second of all, I think collectively, we've decided...
06:04Are you with me?
06:05I'm with you.
06:05Yeah?
06:05Yeah, I'm with you.
06:06Are you with me?
06:06That is a beautiful colour.
06:07It's colouring in it.
06:08That is cool.
06:08That is a cool colour.
06:10What colour is it now?
06:11What colour is it now?
06:13What colour is it now?
06:14We don't know.
06:15Exciting times.
06:16And as if this adventure into motor vehicle modification couldn't get any more exciting...
06:21They've sent me to the village of Neatherhayford, just off the M1 Junction 16 to meet somebody
06:29who has taken their love of colour to a whole other dimension with the paintwork on their
06:34whip.
06:35Oh, my gosh.
06:36Oh, my gosh.
06:37Rianne.
06:38It's nice to meet you, mate.
06:39You're OK, yeah?
06:40Nice to meet you, too.
06:41Yes, thank you.
06:42Are you?
06:43I could, but never have I walked into a car and almost been absolutely speechless.
06:47This is a legendary vehicle, first of all.
06:50Tide Park.
06:51What in the Attack on Titan Naruto anime is going on here, mate?
06:56Rianne has splashed out over 13 grand on this anime-inspired paint job.
07:01That's big bucks, man.
07:02But then, this ain't your standard spray situation.
07:06That's straight paint, ain't it?
07:08Yeah, all paint.
07:09Every single brushstroke that you see on this car is all hand-painted, completely custom.
07:14What?
07:14Freehand as well.
07:15Completely free-handed.
07:16Yeah.
07:17If you'd have described this to me on the phone, I would have said, you just ruined
07:20your type art, mate.
07:21But now I'm up here and close to it, there is a beauty to the artwork.
07:26It's a little, like, got a graffiti energy to it.
07:29Yeah, yeah.
07:30Like a chaotic, artistic energy.
07:32We've got the one-of-one that's on the bonnet.
07:36Yeah, you've got no worry about this being one-of-two, mate.
07:39This is definitely a hand-painted one-on-one, which is wicked.
07:42I just wanted to create something completely different, completely out there, and just
07:45encourage people to just be themselves and not be afraid to do something that you want
07:49to do.
07:50Well, let me tell you, you ain't afraid of nothing, right?
07:53Including stone chips, because when it comes to any damage on this car, you're going to
07:59have to take it to somebody who knows exactly what they're doing.
08:01This ain't a standard panel.
08:02No.
08:03And for perspective, just to drive this home, Ree's paint job cost as much as I spent on
08:09a £36,000 low-mile, two-owner Honda S2000.
08:14So, you decide if it was worth it or not.
08:17I'm guessing it took them, like, three and a half years to do it.
08:19Believe it or not, they had it for just over three weeks.
08:22What?
08:23Hand-painted, lacquered, everything sorted, three and a half weeks?
08:26Yeah.
08:26And lots of lacquer.
08:27Three coats.
08:28Three coats of it.
08:29I know, I can see.
08:29And what would you refer to, what's the technical name for this inner alloy section?
08:34So, they are the wheelbarrows.
08:35So, the wheel, not the wheelbarrow, the wheelbarrows have been painted to match the car.
08:42Yes.
08:43I have never seen an alloy painted there or wrapped there in my life.
08:47Yeah.
08:47And it adds so much depth to the car.
08:50Yeah.
08:50That's next level.
08:51Yeah.
08:51Every single panel on here is custom.
08:53And hold on, who's this?
08:54That is an anime version of me.
08:57I can see it.
08:58I can see it.
08:59It looks amazing for sure, yeah.
09:00This looks amazing, but it's also a Type R.
09:02It's about to chuck it down.
09:03Shall we get in the car and go for a drive?
09:04Let's go.
09:05Come on, mate.
09:08Oh, it's so comfy.
09:09Here we are.
09:17Yeah.
09:18Big Type R.
09:20Rihanna's Honda might look like it's from another planet, but underneath the bonnet is the same VTEC technology as in my S2000.
09:28Only this one has a turbo thrown in for good measure, which gives her 320 horsepower to play with.
09:34You better watch out for the speed cameras.
09:36This ain't the type of car that's going to blend in.
09:37So we've got a little dump valve.
09:40We've got a little turbo blow.
09:42I love this.
09:42I'm going.
09:43Aye, aye, aye, aye, aye.
09:44I can feel that this engine wants you to go for it, right?
09:49It does.
09:49It's always encouraging you to push the car harder.
09:52It's quick.
09:54Oh!
09:56Yo, it's not just the paint job giving this Type R as good looks.
09:59No, no, Rihanna has also dropped the ride height, which is sick when you're parked up flexing, but less so when you're hooning about on bumpy country lanes.
10:07I just want to confirm for the cameras.
10:14I didn't do that pothole.
10:16That was really not me, mate.
10:17I really want to, if you wouldn't mind, see what this feels like compared to the S2000.
10:25You mind giving me a go?
10:25You can drive it, of course you can.
10:27Come on, let's go.
10:29I ain't going to lie.
10:29This road has got more potholes than a chunk of Swiss cheese.
10:33But Rihanna's precious pink Civic should be absolutely fine as long as I don't get carried away.
10:38But you know me, I'm going to get carried away.
10:41This is the thing that Honda got right, and that is this little sensation right here.
10:47And it's known as VTAC.
10:49Here we go, Rihanna!
10:52Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
10:54I'm Guz Khan, and I've converted from factory-fresh cars to modified motors.
11:12A journey that's led me here, behind the wheel of a custom-painted Civic with its mildly terrified owner, Rihanna, in the passenger seat.
11:19I've got real movement.
11:23Look, you can feel it there when you kick in.
11:25Here we go.
11:26Whoa, yeah!
11:29What?
11:30I've got you, I've got you grabbing the side of your car now.
11:33Yeah, it's hard to drive it, you know.
11:34Yeah, I hate it.
11:36You already think I'm a shit driver, I've only been here.
11:37Here we go, look at this.
11:39Here we go.
11:41Here we go.
11:43Rihanna said, excuse me, mate.
11:45Can you stop talking about my car, please?
11:47The thing is, I could drive a skip, and it would make me question purchasing the Honda S2000.
11:55So, you know, sitting in a really comfy Honda Civic Type R, constantly does make me think, have I made the right choice?
12:01But you know what it is in life?
12:02Nothing's perfect.
12:03I've made a choice, we're cracking on.
12:06Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
12:09Here we go.
12:11This is the only car that I am desperate that we don't ping, because this paint job is one-off.
12:24Whoa, you bust.
12:27See what I mean?
12:29You have to go, like, so slow.
12:32Well, at least I haven't scratched any of the £13,000 paint jobs, so there's that, at least.
12:39Very slowly.
12:41Was that noise there before?
12:42No.
12:43Was it not?
12:44No.
12:45Oh, no.
12:46I do feel bad.
12:48But, you know, the positives.
12:49This is a teachable moment.
12:51So what have I learned?
12:53Well, I've learned that me and Rhianne should probably never go driving down country lanes ever again.
12:56But besides that, I think I've tweaked that the way a car looks can influence how you think about it.
13:03And I need to change the way I feel about that S2000.
13:14In Dudley, the time has come to stop chatting and start rapping.
13:19And it might be cheaper than painting it, but this is still a three and a half grand job.
13:23And I do not want to balls this up.
13:26Lads, I'm nervous.
13:28Yeah?
13:28I am nervous because this is the single biggest visual change this car is going to go through.
13:33And now it's here.
13:36I mean, this, I have full faith that it's going to look amazing.
13:43I genuinely think you chose well.
13:46Well, strike me down.
13:48Hmm.
13:48Where's this level of positivity come from?
13:52Arslan Mughal, aka Lombu.
13:54How have you come in this morning, Darren?
13:57What's happening here?
13:59New day, new me.
14:00Whoa.
14:01So you're convinced?
14:02I am.
14:03I think, don't worry, I think it'll look fantastic.
14:05That's awesome, man.
14:06Anything else positive you want to say to me?
14:07I believe in you.
14:09That's nice.
14:10You're wrapping it then, yeah?
14:11Yeah, please.
14:12Cool.
14:12Yeah.
14:13Can we wrap it?
14:13But before we wrap it, I just need to know something.
14:16Go on.
14:17Can we test it out on something first before we go all in?
14:21Yeah, all right.
14:22Let's wrap the bonnet.
14:24Is that a good panel?
14:26Yeah, yeah, yeah.
14:26It's nice and flat.
14:27It's not too bad to do.
14:29It's a good idea.
14:29Good chart?
14:30Yeah.
14:30Very good idea.
14:30Cool.
14:31All right.
14:31So let's prep it and get it ready for wrap.
14:35All right.
14:36Here's the plan.
14:37We're going to try out this shiny gold wrap on the bonnet first before I commit to the whole car.
14:41You know me.
14:42I'm very indecisive and very easily distracted.
14:46You know, if Lumbo was the same color as the car, he would make a perfect C3PO.
14:53I mean, it looks very good contoured around your pectoral.
14:56Looks good.
14:59Don't mess a bit up.
15:00Let's get those washy jets out.
15:01Have you done it?
15:02You've got to show me.
15:03Oh, Darren is not in the mood for our shenanigans this morning.
15:06We're doing this properly, which means removing the window squirters rather than cutting the wrap around them.
15:12We'll just hear you.
15:13Yep.
15:14Oh, shit.
15:15Squeeze them in and just push it up.
15:18Push it up.
15:19There you go.
15:20Yeah.
15:20Nice one.
15:21Wrapping can be a DIY job, if you're brave enough, that is.
15:25But we need to call in the professionals to help us get started.
15:29Hey.
15:29What's your name?
15:30Nice to see you, bro.
15:30And obviously, Darren knows just the guys.
15:33Nice to see you, bro.
15:35You all right, yes?
15:36Okay, so what happens first?
15:38Like, do we just whack the wrap straight on?
15:39Firstly, we're going to need a decontamination.
15:41Okay.
15:42And then we use isopropyl alcohol just to cleanse any greases or waxes that are on the paint.
15:47Okay, let's have a look.
15:49Okay, so to start, we're going to prepare the surface.
15:52And we're going to do that by cleaning and degreasing everything.
15:55I'm going to talk about the Honda, not Lumbo's back.
16:01One of you want to go on the other side.
16:03Decontamination complete.
16:05It's time to wrap.
16:07Go over there.
16:08We're both in scissors.
16:10Could we instant get over there?
16:12I just want to make sure there's a professional on both sides of the car.
16:15Dee, this is pressure here.
16:17I'm just going to supervise me.
16:18Yep.
16:18That's perfect.
16:20Yep.
16:20So if you open your all up, you take that side.
16:22Here we go.
16:23Don't let it go.
16:24Don't let it go.
16:25Yeah, well, you just don't roll it out, yeah.
16:27Be perfect.
16:28What a pressure.
16:29Okay, so we're going to move a bit this way, yeah?
16:32Okay.
16:32So we're going to peel off the backing first.
16:35So when we do want to peel the backing off, we're going to hold it tight.
16:39Okay.
16:39I'm going to tell you to pull it.
16:40Okay.
16:40And I want you to pull in the direction of this corner of the bonnet.
16:44So I'll pull diagonally.
16:46What about me?
16:46Across the side.
16:48Pull towards you.
16:49No.
16:49No.
16:52I know he's joking, but let's not forget that this is the man who wanted to wrap this car
16:57in artificial leather like he's Coventry's answer to Lenny Kravitz.
17:01Do you need to hold it while you're taking the backing off?
17:03Pull that off.
17:04Heal it off.
17:04All the way off, yeah.
17:05Tight it all the way off.
17:06All the way off.
17:07Slowly, man.
17:08Slowly, slowly, man.
17:10Can I touch the back of it?
17:13Yeah, yeah.
17:13It's okay.
17:14You can touch the back.
17:14That's not a problem.
17:16Strip it, Bill.
17:16Strip it.
17:18And you said pull towards the direction of basically the edge of the bonnet, right?
17:23Do not put it on the bonnet.
17:24Yeah, don't lie down just there.
17:26Just stretch it.
17:26Hell, you're scaring me, especially the way you...
17:29So when you pull it, get both hands and you want to proper pull it.
17:35All right.
17:35Go on in.
17:36Yeah.
17:37Yeah, yeah.
17:37Give it a good pull.
17:38Good pull.
17:39Darren, how are we doing?
17:40Go down.
17:40It looks good, man.
17:41Stick it down now.
17:42Yeah.
17:42Stick it down.
17:48Let's be honest.
17:50My side isn't looking great.
17:52But Lombu's side is looking like someone left a Twix out in the sun.
17:57How do we do?
17:58What a disgrace you are, Lombu.
18:01It's rubbish, bro.
18:03Rubbish.
18:04Get out.
18:05Yeah, see you later, guys.
18:06Just get out.
18:07Thanks for help.
18:08Get out.
18:09Okay.
18:11Okay, let's get it sorted out.
18:12Yeah.
18:13Look, self-awareness is a very important skill.
18:16I knew after I stood back from attempting to help wrap that bonnet that I had done one
18:21of the most dog shit of all dog shit jobs, but that lanky prick stood on the other side genuinely
18:29asked the question, is that good?
18:32That's why I asked him to remove himself from the show and the building and there was a huge
18:38argument on the way home, just so you know.
18:40We wouldn't be in this situation if we just put it on ourselves.
18:44Listen, we can't even say it's a racial thing, because Darren and the two brand new Asians
18:50that have just arrived at the garage both told us we did a shit job.
18:53No, but do you really think we did it perfectly, bro?
18:55Because it's just me and you now.
18:57Yeah?
18:57It was rubbish.
18:59Oh, this is a masterclass right here.
19:02So, you properly stretch it out, trim the excess edges, and smooth away any air bubbles
19:08trapped underneath.
19:09We, amongst ourselves, we've had lots of comprehensive training for how to fit screen protectors.
19:16Sorry?
19:16Screen protectors.
19:17This is not that different.
19:19I think this is significantly different to fitting a screen protector to your iPhone
19:26than it is fitting a PPF ceramic gold-plated copper-plated wrap to a Honda S2000, bro.
19:33I'm Guz Khan, and I'm transforming a Honda S2000 as my first-ever modification project.
19:54I say I, but this brother isn't me, and this guy isn't me either.
19:59They're hired professionals who are fixing the mess that me and Lumbo made of that wrap
20:03on the bonnet.
20:03It was mostly Lumbo, though.
20:05And there it is.
20:07The lads have made it look easy, and as a result, we have one pristine wrapped bonnet.
20:13Love it.
20:14Oh, wow, look at that.
20:16Oh, yeah.
20:17That's nice.
20:18So, Hal, Haroon, congratulations.
20:22Listen, lads, you are not mocking a bad.
20:25You're happy with that?
20:25Not that colour.
20:26I love it.
20:27I'm telling you right now, I'm happy for you guys to wrap this in its entirety.
20:32I'm feeling comfortable.
20:32It looks really nice.
20:33It looks amazing, doesn't it?
20:34It looks great.
20:35Come on.
20:35It's going to look so good when it all comes together, right?
20:38Right, we're going to get busy now, then.
20:39So, what we're going to do, we're going to jack the car up, get the wheels off, all four
20:42wheels off, front bumper off, headlights out, door trims off, wing mirrors off, door handles
20:48off, rib.
20:49Oh, yeah, I've just remembered.
20:50I need to go see a man about a motor.
20:52See you, boys.
20:55Where's he going?
20:57Just us, isn't it?
20:58Right, this is a big job.
20:59We're going to get Adrian to help us.
21:02We're going to get some tools.
21:04Trust me, Darren, you are much better off with Adrian.
21:07Look at him working that jack.
21:09Sexy.
21:09I, on the other hand, am a wanderer, a journeyman, on a quest for knowledge, a pilgrimage that
21:21will expand my understanding of the Church of Modification.
21:26And that's brought me to Choutnam, to meet Tom, a man with a refreshingly old-school approach
21:32to modification lifestyle.
21:33Yes, Tom.
21:36Yes, how are you?
21:36You're OK, yeah?
21:37Yeah, good.
21:37Nice to meet you, mate.
21:39Tom here works in classic and vintage car restoration.
21:42And by the looks of it, he's been bringing a bit of the work home with him.
21:46You know, as man caves go, this is pretty gangster, mate.
21:50It's all right, yeah.
21:51This is a visual overload.
21:52In the best of ways, there's a lot going on here.
21:54But it's caught my eye straight away.
21:57I'm going to be honest with you.
21:59I ain't got a clue what it is, but this is next level.
22:03Can you talk to me about what this invention is?
22:04Yeah, absolutely.
22:05Yeah, so it's a 1935 Austin 7.
22:08Normally, they don't look like this.
22:10Is it from that era of car, that big, tall, bobbling?
22:13Is that what it was like?
22:14Yeah, they made loads of them.
22:16But I'm not into that.
22:17I like the little racing car look.
22:19So, it's my interpretation of, basically, a 1930s race car.
22:25Now, this has more than a whiff of Bugatti about it.
22:28If it was a real one, we're talking hundreds of thousands of pounds.
22:33But it's not.
22:34However, it is built in exactly the same custom coach way,
22:39with Tom shaping each of the body paddles by hand.
22:42How much of this is the original vehicle?
22:45OK.
22:46And what have you tinkered with?
22:47Yeah, so, original, vehicle-wise, is the chassis and the running gear.
22:52It's got a bigger engine in it.
22:54What kind of engine have you put in it?
22:55So, the engine's got a bit of a stigma.
22:57It's a Reliant engine, actually, you know?
22:59Well, listen, I don't know too much about Reliance,
23:01but I know that's an uncle engine.
23:02What have you got a Reliant in here for?
23:03So, the normal engine has probably got about 7 to 10 horsepower in it,
23:08right, and will do about 40 mile an hour.
23:10This will do over 90.
23:12I mean, 90 mile an hour sounds like you've got a death wish.
23:16It should scare the pants up here, really, yeah.
23:18It's going to be a hell of a ride.
23:20And then, body-wise, everything has been made from scratch.
23:23So, a flat sheet of aluminium.
23:24I basically make a cardboard template.
23:26Well, there you go.
23:27That is...
23:29That's going to be a seat.
23:31That's how the seat...
23:31Can I have a look?
23:32Yeah, have a look, yeah.
23:34So, everything starts with a bit of cardboard and masking tape,
23:36and then we create the curves and bring it to life,
23:39weld it all together.
23:40Bro, for the amateurs out there like me, yeah,
23:42do you mean to tell me that this...
23:46I'm not going to over-gas it.
23:47This is a cheeky little piece of art you've got
23:49tucked away in this unit.
23:50Yeah, yeah, yeah.
23:51You've made this by hand?
23:54Everything is literally, yeah, made by hand.
23:57Each panel is knocked up in card
24:00and then fastidiously formed by hand,
24:03even if it takes my guy time all day.
24:06Have you used, like, really precise measurements?
24:08How have you done this?
24:09Yeah, I've been really anal about everything.
24:11So, like, everything's in multiples of sevens,
24:1577mm between the gaps, you know,
24:17seven rivets, seven louvers on the side.
24:19You know, I want everything to have a reason behind it.
24:23So, why have eight rivets when it's an Austin seven?
24:25It's stuff that people wouldn't normally do or notice,
24:29but just a me thing, really, not an Austin.
24:31It's a cool you thing, bro.
24:32Yeah, thank you.
24:32I'm going to give it a, that's a cool you thing.
24:34Creating this on your own...
24:36Yeah.
24:37I don't even know how to get into that.
24:39How did you discover this is something,
24:41number one, you liked and number one, you're capable of?
24:44Did you finish school, go uni, or what was your journey?
24:47Yeah, it was a bit of a tearaway.
24:48Expelled, everything like that.
24:49Sweet, wow, okay.
24:51Yeah, yeah, yeah.
24:51I started at Morgan Motor Company,
24:53was when I did my apprenticeship.
24:54I then, after that, went into fabrication.
24:57Then I had the opportunity to work in vintage and classic restoration.
25:01And that's where I got to work on some amazing cars, basically.
25:03Still do.
25:05And that, in full-time job.
25:06Wow.
25:07Yeah, so it's pretty cool.
25:08You know, when I look at this,
25:09and I'm looking at you, you're telling me your story.
25:11Yeah.
25:11I wonder why more young people don't understand
25:14that this is something they can do.
25:15Yeah, I suppose I suffer with dyslexia,
25:18so I look at things in a different way.
25:19Yeah.
25:20I'm quite creative.
25:21Yeah.
25:21You know, reading and writing, terrible at.
25:23Well, I can make you something, because I can see it, so...
25:25That young person I was thinking about is my son.
25:27Yeah, yeah.
25:28So he was diagnosed with dyslexia about 18 months ago.
25:30Yeah.
25:30And the one thing we found ever since he was a kid
25:33is give him something to do.
25:35Yeah, yeah.
25:36He is flying.
25:37Yeah.
25:37Ask him to sit in a chair, get out, book.
25:40And he's like a different kid.
25:41Yeah, that's all right.
25:42So I'm looking at this thinking,
25:43yo, I'm going to have to send him down to the man cave, bro,
25:45to pick up some skills.
25:47You know, one thing I didn't expect to pick up on this journey
25:50was ideas on parenting.
25:52But I guess that's the magical thing about subcultures like modding.
25:56They're really about the people, not just the nuts and bolts.
26:00And when it comes to the nuts and bolts on this thing,
26:03Tom has gone strictly traditional,
26:06using artisan techniques like panel beating.
26:08And he's not inviting me into this man cave
26:10without getting me to assist on the latest part of the project.
26:15That very contoured seat,
26:16we're going to turn this flat piece of metal into that.
26:19We're going to give it a go.
26:21Right, so I will literally just start you off.
26:23Yeah, yeah, yeah.
26:24This machine right here is called the English Wheel,
26:27which, somewhat ironically,
26:28was invented in the 1500s in France for making suits to armour.
26:33But we really ran with the tech in the early 20th century
26:35for all sorts of manufacturing.
26:38Right, got the gist of it?
26:40It's easy as that.
26:41Just nice and steady.
26:43All right.
26:43All right, okay, stand in the middle.
26:44All right.
26:45Right.
26:46Almost step forward, that's it.
26:49Oh, look, if you do it that way...
26:51You're a bit closer together.
26:53The tool works by stretching sheet metal into complex curves
26:57using the flat rolling wheel on the top
26:59and the smaller rounded anvil wheel underneath.
27:02As the operator passes the metal between the wheels
27:05at different angles,
27:06the metal begins to form a convex surface
27:09over the rounded anvil wheel.
27:11You see the thing here, the lads at the garage, yeah?
27:14Yeah.
27:15I don't know, I suppose the correct word to describe it
27:18would be they think I'm an idiot.
27:19Okay.
27:19Little do they know, I'm out here
27:21with what's this machine called again?
27:23A wheeler machine.
27:24Yeah, I'm with the wheeler.
27:25Can I tell you something else as well
27:26that you didn't warn me about?
27:28Go on, watch your fingers, you know?
27:30You didn't tell me about that, did you?
27:31That's it, just...
27:33A little bit closer together, yeah?
27:34That's it.
27:35I can see it bending.
27:37It'll take Tom around eight hours
27:38to carefully manipulate all the curves into this seat
27:41before he can fill it, finish, and polish it.
27:45But luckily, he's already done all that on another one,
27:47so we're good to go.
27:49I knew we wouldn't be able to do it all,
27:51so you would have finally have got there.
27:54But that, just so I can see...
27:57Yeah.
27:58That finished seat started off life like that.
28:02Yeah.
28:03This is impressive, man.
28:04You'd have got there.
28:05It's right.
28:06Yeah, I mean, I ain't got eight hours,
28:08but, yeah, I get what you're saying.
28:10So if I give you that?
28:11Yeah.
28:12Just put that piece just there.
28:15Yeah.
28:15And that is it.
28:19From where we at right now
28:20to you taking this out on road
28:22and proving to me that it can do 90 mile an hour,
28:25are we still super far off?
28:27It's going to be painted, you know, in a few months.
28:30I'd probably say six months away.
28:32So that's not far off?
28:33Yeah, no.
28:34You know what, can I ask you a question?
28:35Go on.
28:35I think this looks so cool as it is.
28:38Yeah.
28:38Is there a technique that you could just protect this metal
28:41and have it like this?
28:42Oh, absolutely.
28:44But I see all the imperfections.
28:45I see the bits that, you know,
28:47I can see the line in the panel that ain't quite right.
28:49I'm with you.
28:50You know, so for me,
28:51covering that up in French racing blue paint
28:53is the way to go.
28:55I mean, bro, I have to gas for you
28:56because even without paint, this is next level.
29:00Oh, man, I love it, man.
29:01That is the way to go.
29:05On my Honda project,
29:11Darren and his crew are hard at it on their jobs,
29:14while Slumber and I take a moment to reminisce
29:16about our time working on Coventry's High Street.
29:19I used to see you at the bus stop.
29:21Hey!
29:23Do you remember those days?
29:24I used to come out.
29:24I never used to be catching the bus, doll.
29:26Yes, you did.
29:27No, I used to see you at the bus stop
29:28with a new gal every five minutes from Primark.
29:31That's what I used to see.
29:33You absolute heartbreaker.
29:35That's right.
29:36Lumber was quite the Lothario back in them days.
29:39But right now, I need his head in the game.
29:41The whole team are stripping anything
29:43that forms an edge on the body of the car
29:45so they can put the rest of the gold wrap on.
29:48This thing's got to be smoother than smooth FM,
29:51smoothest hits of the night, as you get me.
29:52All the badges have got to come off it.
29:55And they just pull off, I'm guessing, yeah?
29:57Yeah, yeah, so they should.
29:59I mean, well, that was still going well, wasn't it?
30:02See, I just looked at it and it came off.
30:04Where have I heard that before, Lombo?
30:07AKA notorious ladies' man
30:09and romancer of Coventry's entire Primark workforce.
30:13Can you put them skills to work on S2000, please?
30:19Brilliant.
30:21Welcome to the world of fixing cars.
30:24I meant to do that.
30:26At Darren's workshop in Dudley,
30:41we're transforming this Honda S2000
30:43from bog-standard silver to glorious gold.
30:47Strip it, Bill, strip it.
30:49Or maybe brass.
30:51But it does look a bit copperish from certain angles.
30:53I'm not entirely sure.
30:54It looks good, man.
30:56Stick it down now.
30:57Yeah.
30:58Anyway, so far, Lombo and I have proven
31:00that wrapping, as is the case with birthday presents,
31:03is better left to the professionals.
31:05How do we do?
31:06It's rubbish, bro.
31:08The car has been completely stripped back.
31:10I'm talking badges, bumpers, headlights, handles.
31:13Everything is off so that the wrap can go on.
31:18And now, the time has come.
31:20Haroon and Sahil have stuck around
31:24to provide their pro-wrapping skills.
31:26First, they stretch the PPF,
31:29make a few precision incisions,
31:31warm it up with a heat gun,
31:34pull the wrap down into position,
31:37and smooth out any air underneath.
31:39But the one thing these professionals can't do
31:42is tell me exactly what the colour actually is.
31:46Is it copper?
31:48Is it anthracite?
31:50I don't know any other combinations, possibly,
31:52that go with that.
31:53What?
31:53Brass.
31:54It was a bit brassy.
31:55And am I wrong?
31:56Am I chatting shit by saying it's a bit greeny?
31:58Yeah.
31:58Go green, maroon.
32:00Regal.
32:03Tones of green.
32:05Tones of gold.
32:06And somebody just shouted off camera,
32:07maroon, I think he's talking shit.
32:10But nevertheless,
32:11a lot of colours that look fantastic.
32:13To be honest, yeah,
32:14I'm just glad we're not wrapping it
32:16in bright white artificial alligator skin.
32:19I'm going to leave that
32:19for Lumbo's secret weekend wardrobe, innit?
32:22Speaking of dangerous passions,
32:24I've got some unfinished business of my own
32:27down at the drift track.
32:28Now,
32:30the last time I made a visit
32:31for a lesson here in Northampton...
32:34Oh, the car's failing.
32:35..the Guz Khan curse struck
32:37Teacher Mats Nissan 350Z,
32:39resulting in an early bath for your boy.
32:42Everybody get their fingers out.
32:43Fingers out of where?
32:44Who want me to get my finger out?
32:45My finger's a hit.
32:48Ah, it's even worse.
32:49But you can't keep a good car down.
32:52So I'm back for some extreme technical driving.
32:55And this time,
32:57I'll be behind the wheel.
32:58You ready?
33:02I'm a bit nervous.
33:03You're going to be nervous,
33:04but we'll get you through that, mate.
33:07Matt's in control first,
33:09so he can give me a few pointers
33:10and then I'll be in a hot seat.
33:13In a first.
33:14Yeah.
33:14Second gear.
33:15So always in second
33:16when we want to drift?
33:17Yep.
33:17Then accelerate.
33:18Yeah.
33:24And that's about as far
33:25as the lesson goes,
33:26to be honest.
33:27Everything else
33:28is a bit of a blur.
33:29Matt's supposed to be teaching me,
33:31but his educational style
33:33is unorthodox.
33:34Unorthodox.
33:35Yeah, let's call it that.
33:40Oh!
33:42There we go!
33:47Woo-hoo!
33:48Let's go get you a-go in it, yeah?
33:50And then,
33:52just like that,
33:54lesson over.
33:55Very exhilarating.
33:57Very exhilarating.
33:58Did I learn anything from the lesson?
34:00No.
34:02Nothing.
34:03I was trying to learn stuff,
34:04but it's all going so fast
34:05and there was a lot of dust
34:06going in my mouth.
34:08No lie,
34:09my mouth ain't just dry from the dust.
34:11I'm finally about to get behind the wheel
34:13and let me tell you,
34:15the nerves are back.
34:16Oh, there's a steering wheel this side.
34:18Shit.
34:21Oh, no.
34:23Legs first.
34:24A bit like a lotus.
34:25Put one leg in first.
34:27You know,
34:28this might be one of the few occasions
34:29where my advanced BMI
34:30is an advantage.
34:31Because if I can't fit behind a wheel,
34:34well, then I can't crash behind a wheel.
34:36Oh, so did I?
34:37Yeah, that's it.
34:37Slide it.
34:38Oh!
34:39You can do this.
34:40I don't think I can.
34:41There's no such thing as can.
34:43Good camp.
34:46But Matt's seen his share
34:47of chunky boys before
34:48and it turns out he's right.
34:50I do just about fit inside.
34:53Well, most of me.
34:55Oh, get my foot in.
34:57Sorry, get my foot in the car.
34:58Oh, shit.
34:59Big boy is in the car
35:00and now it's time
35:02to put on my big boy pants
35:03because this is what
35:05I've been waiting for.
35:06I can't bottle it now.
35:08Paddle clutch.
35:09Oh, yeah, bastard.
35:10Get used to the paddle.
35:11That's it.
35:11Layer up.
35:12Paddle off.
35:13Completely off the clutch.
35:14Yeah.
35:14That's it.
35:15Just drive her around a bit.
35:16Get a feel for the car itself.
35:18Do you feel how arrow-pointed
35:20the steering is, though?
35:21You see?
35:21Yeah, that's smart, isn't it?
35:23Yeah.
35:23It's like a go-kart, right?
35:25Yeah.
35:26You know what I want to try first?
35:27What?
35:27Just from stationary.
35:29Let me see if I could just
35:30donut here first, didn't it?
35:31360 donut.
35:32Perfect place to start.
35:33So if we come here then, yeah?
35:34Yeah, well, if we go
35:35right into the middle here
35:35and right into this centrepiece,
35:37get her into gear,
35:38clutch down.
35:39Accelerate, accelerate, accelerate.
35:40Clutch, let the clutch completely up.
35:42Then you're taking the throttle.
35:44So when you accelerate,
35:45it's going to counter-steer.
35:47Let it do that through your hands.
35:48Don't stop it.
35:49And then feather the throttle.
35:51Balance it.
35:51Whop, whop, whop, whop.
35:53Like that.
35:53Okay, so let's try
35:54for a first off.
35:56Okay, let's go.
35:57So straight from what?
35:57Bring the revs up.
35:58Yep, yep.
35:59Straight up.
36:00More, more revs.
36:01More, more, more.
36:02That's it.
36:02Yep.
36:03Clutch.
36:05That's it.
36:05Now feather that throttle.
36:06Now turn.
36:08There we go.
36:09That was a first.
36:10That was a 180.
36:11So see what you did there
36:12where it counter-steered
36:13and then you corrected it?
36:14Yeah, yeah.
36:15We've got to do
36:15the complete alien thing
36:17and not correct it
36:18but correct it
36:19and nudge it on.
36:20Yeah.
36:20So you have to fire it
36:21like a balance.
36:22In, out.
36:23In, out.
36:23In, out.
36:24In, out.
36:25Okay, let's give it a go.
36:26Let's go.
36:27Right, accelerator,
36:27revs up,
36:28clutch, pop it up.
36:31Down that way.
36:34Fair for the throttle.
36:34Fair for the throttle.
36:35Fair for the throttle.
36:38Come on.
36:40Yeah.
36:45There you go.
36:48You even took off
36:49in that one.
36:50Yeah, see how you feel that.
36:52I have mastered donuts.
36:55Not for the first time
36:56in my life.
36:56Big up the Krispy Kreme.
36:58But now I want to get
36:59some sideways drifting
37:00under my belt.
37:03So let's get you
37:04come round this corner here.
37:05Yeah.
37:05As you come out of it,
37:06give it a bit of an acceleration.
37:08So get to the cone point,
37:09accelerate.
37:10And let a counter-steer.
37:12That's it.
37:12Now drive over there.
37:13Come round here.
37:14And then as you get to there,
37:15accelerate now.
37:17That's it.
37:18Counter-steer.
37:18Good.
37:19That's how you start the drift.
37:21Turn to it now.
37:22Accelerate.
37:23On.
37:24There you go.
37:25Right, that's it.
37:26Fair for the throttle.
37:27On, off.
37:28On, off.
37:28Like that.
37:29Now accelerate.
37:32Oh, there it is.
37:33Come on.
37:34Aye, aye.
37:35Yes.
37:36Accelerate.
37:37On, off, on, off, on, off.
37:39You're like star skiing hot.
37:41That's me and you, brother.
37:42You know, man.
37:43There it is.
37:45There we go, my boy.
37:47Yes.
37:47Yes, boy.
37:48This is good.
37:49I'm liking your style, man.
37:56Oh, that was exciting.
37:58Thank you, bro.
38:00And what do you reckon?
38:01Don't lie to me.
38:02No.
38:02Was that any good?
38:03That's like a natural talent.
38:05Do you know what I mean?
38:06Your ability to feel it is there straight away.
38:10Can I tell you the truth?
38:11What?
38:11I've just had trouser movement.
38:12I've just secured about a million cool points from my kids.
38:18Been labelled a natural talent from my drift instructor.
38:22But you're still going to include this footage of me struggling to get my fat ass out of the car, aren't you?
38:25I knew you was going to, you people.
38:27And where did I find you?
38:28Oh, this is a wrap.
38:33Beavering away in the garage, Darren and the lads are putting the S2000 back together after a completed wrap mission.
38:40Let me tell you, man.
38:40I am buzzing to see it fully finished for the first time.
38:44Oh, Darren from DC Customs.
38:51How good does this look?
38:52Yo, this looks mad.
38:53Huh?
38:54This looks mad, bro.
38:56It looks pretty.
38:56So cool.
38:57It's really coming together, right?
38:59Do you know what's crazy?
39:00Standing back there, walking in, now standing here.
39:03It's so many different shades of colours, man.
39:05It's crazy.
39:06It actually looks like paint.
39:08It does, doesn't it?
39:09Yeah, you know, you went for the best.
39:10You went for the coloured PPR.
39:12So this is the best you can get.
39:13It almost looks like paint because it's got that reflection to it.
39:15Yeah, yeah.
39:16So it's looking special.
39:18Bonkers, man.
39:19Absolutely bonkers.
39:20Such a cool colour.
39:21Oh, my gosh.
39:22Do you know, for the first time, now that the body's done and we've got these tillage seats,
39:27that I feel like you're really starting to see what a modified S2000 should look like, innit?
39:34Wow, man.
39:34So what else left?
39:35So we're almost done.
39:36Back bumpers yet to go on, so you can help me with that.
39:39Okay.
39:39You've got to put the wheels on.
39:40Yeah.
39:41Today I'll get dirty for you.
39:42Sweet.
39:43I need to be more careful about what I say around Lombo.
39:46I don't want to trigger any more of his high street honey flashbacks.
39:50Because the casting over a cove won't be able to concentrate on the job in hand.
39:54I've got to put it almost in position.
39:55Watch those sides.
39:56They're scratching.
39:58And then...
39:58You're doing a great job.
40:00Who?
40:00Me?
40:00You.
40:01You're one good outside, you're done.
40:03Lombo, lombo, lombo, lombo.
40:04I think you have this.
40:05All right, so this top lip.
40:07Yeah.
40:08We can sit that on there.
40:11MC Razzman Jasmine.
40:12Is that in your side, yeah?
40:15Dang me.
40:20You good?
40:20I think.
40:22Sweet.
40:22It's not good to you though.
40:24Have a look.
40:26There's a shut line.
40:27Screw you.
40:28I think it's good.
40:30A few screws on the underside to secure the bumper.
40:33And I think the jobs are good.
40:35That looks pretty good.
40:36I love the colour difference.
40:37It looks so cool.
40:38This is what I'm really excited to see.
40:41We just need wheels on a car.
40:42All right guys, there's your ratchet.
40:44You want to start on that one?
40:45I'll start on this one.
40:46Okay.
40:48Here's a fun game for you to play at home.
40:49How many wheels will Darren get back onto the vehicle
40:52before we finish our first one?
40:56You're lying with the ball?
40:58No, no.
40:59There you go.
41:00You have to put the head on the thread.
41:02Huh?
41:02You have to put this head on the thread.
41:03That's not a head.
41:04What is this?
41:06It's a nut.
41:08That's the head of the nut.
41:10Isn't it?
41:11I don't think anybody's ever called it head of a nut.
41:14Are you guys getting it?
41:15Yeah, Lumboo's saying we nearly got all the heads on the thread
41:17and I was like, what are you on about?
41:19Heads on threads.
41:20That's not how it went, is it?
41:21Yeah.
41:21Come on, Lumboo.
41:22I thought you knew better.
41:23Exactly, bro.
41:24Come on, man.
41:28I'm just trying to put nuts on studs, pal.
41:31Yeah?
41:32That one day.
41:34Are you done?
41:35Are you finished?
41:36Are you done?
41:36Yeah, I've done three.
41:37Well done at home if you said Darren would fit three
41:39before we could even fit one.
41:41Go and treat yourself to a nice biscuit.
41:43Off you go.
41:45Everything feels nipped up to me apart from this.
41:47I don't know what you were doing.
41:48Come on, let's lock him on up, Tim.
41:49Oh, it's what it is.
41:50Oh, we're locking the tiny.
41:53Yeah, it feels all right.
41:55Yeah.
41:57I think it's out there, right?
41:58Yeah, that was perfect.
41:59Well done.
41:59Cool.
41:59Well done.
42:00Well done.
42:01Finished.
42:02Three alloys in the time me and Lumboo were here fixing one.
42:04Yeah.
42:06To be fair, I've had a bit of practice.
42:08Yeah, and you also didn't have somebody banging on about.
42:10Heads on the threads, mate.
42:12What is that?
42:16Oh, yeah.
42:17You know what?
42:19I would never in my life have thought that we would design a car and choose wrap and get
42:26it to look like this.
42:27But now it's all here.
42:32I'm proud of you guys.
42:33Let's do three.
42:34I'm too curious, though, how it would have looked in the alligator wrap.
42:41Man, let's go.
42:42We'll go get dinner.
42:43Let's go.
42:43Let's go.
42:44Let's go.
42:44You stay here and think about the alligator wrap.
42:50Next time.
42:52Spoiler alert.
42:53As in quite literally, look away now if you don't want to see the massive spoiler.
42:57I'm very conflicted about sticking on the S2000.
43:00When I was growing up, people who had massive spoilers on their cars, people would often
43:04say they were overcompensating.
43:06Bigger the spoiler.
43:07Yeah.
43:07Tiny the tickle.
43:09I pay a visit to the valleys for a meetup with my fellow speed freaks.
43:13It's a joy now to be able to bring it out and spank it down the lanes and bring it here
43:17somewhere like this.
43:18And I meet Stoke-on-Trent's answer to Mad Max.
43:22I don't even know where to start here, bro.
43:25What is this?
43:26This is my little baby.
43:52This is my little baby.
43:53This is my little baby.
43:54This is my little baby.
43:55This is my little baby.
43:56This is my little baby.
43:57This is my little baby.
43:58This is my little baby.
43:59This is my little baby.
44:00This is my little baby.
44:01This is my little baby.
44:02This is my little baby.
44:03This is my little baby.
44:04This is my little baby.
44:05This is my little baby.
44:06This is my little baby.
44:07This is my little baby.
44:08This is my little baby.
44:09This is my little baby.
44:10This is my little baby.
44:11This is my little baby.
44:12This is my little baby.
44:13This is my little baby.
44:14This is my little baby.
44:15This is my little baby.
44:16This is my little baby.
44:17This is my little baby.
44:18This is my little baby.
