Worcestershire County deputy leader quits Reform on air over council tax hike plansBBC
Transcript
00:00Councillor David Taylor, you were deputy leader of this council until August.
00:05Did you know it was this bad?
00:08I think if you go into politics with your eyes open and you do your research,
00:12you understand that there are issues at most councils.
00:15Unfortunately, most councils are massively underfunded by central government,
00:20have been for many years.
00:23And my take on this, Elizabeth, is I walked in here today as a reformed county councillor.
00:30I won't be leaving this studio as a reformed county councillor.
00:35I've had several issues with the running of the council
00:39from a political perspective and from an officer perspective.
00:44Council tax is one of those issues.
00:46I think we could have made decisions sooner.
00:49And I think leaving it this late in the day to make cuts
00:53and to expect people who are already not doing so well.
00:58You know, it's tough times out there today.
01:00To expect them to pay more council tax, I just don't think I can support that.
01:05So you are quitting Reform UK?
01:07As from today, I will be an independent councillor, county councillor.
01:13There are several other policy decisions that have been made that I don't stand by.
01:19And I can't stand by.
01:21And I can't stand by.
