Maiah Martin, Director of Consumer Engagement from Estee Lauder talks to Cynthia Bailey, Sloane Stephens, and Ellarie in a segment called Ready Set Glow - Estee Lauder.
Transcript
00:00Hi, everyone. I'm Maya Martin, Director of Consumer Engagement for Estee Lauder, and I could not be more excited to be here hosting this segment today.
00:13Essence and Estee Lauder have once again partnered together to not only celebrate but also uplift Black women in our unique beauty experiences, and we are so excited to come together yet again for another Essence Fest.
00:25So, without further ado, let's go ahead and get started. Today, we have, first and foremost, YouTube superstar, beauty influencer, and self-proclaimed mamapreneur, Ellery, who will be joining us. Welcome, Ellery!
00:41Hi! Thank you so much to the Estee Lauder team for having me. I'm so excited to share this little summertime makeup look.
00:47I know my daughter reminds me often when I need to spruce myself up, so this is coming at a perfect time.
00:54I want to welcome our second guest, who is world-renowned model, star of Real Housewives of Atlanta. Welcome, Cynthia Bailey!
01:04Hey, you guys! What's up? It's me. I'm so excited to be here. Last year this time, we were actually in New Orleans when I participated with Essence and Estee Lauder, and it was amazing.
01:14So, I'm very happy to be back here again. You know, I love a great beat face. I put on a little light beat before I got started, but I can't wait to just talk about all the great tips.
01:24That leads us to our third and final guest, tennis pro, and also my personal fitspo, Sloane Stephens! Welcome, Sloane!
01:36Hi, guys! I'm so excited to be here. I need to learn more tips and tricks about makeup, so I'm super excited.
01:44She already looks amazing, so I'm super jealous. But Ellery hopefully will help me out, and I'll be able to look much better after this.
01:52Exactly. Yes. But you look great.
01:54You're already serving skin. Exactly. I'm trying. I'm trying. I know for this summer, especially with it being kind of like more like a home summer, which is no excuse. We can still look cute at home.
02:06I always like to do less now. I went from like the five-layer cake to more like a mini cupcake, like just a little, a little face.
02:14I love, I actually am wearing Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation, which is amazing. And I love it so much because it's light.
02:22It doesn't feel like I have anything on my face, really, but it also gives me a very finished look because I don't want like light and then it looks like I don't really have anything on.
02:30If I'm going to put it on, I want to look like I have a little bit on.
02:33I try to be like as light as possible because I feel like I'm always sweating and like the stay in place has been amazing for me because I have long days and it's very easy for me.
02:42I find helpful to match it up. Like if I look on my phone and I did a shoot with S.A. Lauder a while ago and they gave me this and I'm like, oh, wait, wait, here we go.
02:52And I'm always, I'm almost at the end. I'm like scraping the bottom of this too, but it is so good. Like this is one of my favorite products.
02:58So I literally have a ton of them and I just keep in my tennis bag, my makeup bag and I like can't live without this.
03:04So literally foundation, mascara, and I mix my foundation with like the moisturizer, like the SPF one, just because I'm in the sun all the time.
03:14It stays and it's just super easy. So yeah, that's basically it. Very simple.
03:22I don't know how to apply bronzer. So you're on with that one.
03:28We're going to learn today. We're going to learn today.
03:31Yeah, we're going to learn. A fresh kind.
03:34I'm really picky when it comes to my foundation. So this is one that I can vouch for and I always keep right on the desk.
03:41So that I always know when I choose it, it's going to be everything that I need.
03:46Stays in place. It controls my oil. Stays on all day.
03:50I'm a sweater too. And I do not like to look like a grease ball.
03:53So I need something that can control this face, not move.
03:57I don't want it to settle or change colors. It like does everything it's supposed to do.
04:02And it's like shades. So they got you.
04:05My goal is just to make the skin look really nice and flawless.
04:08It's a little light glow, no eye shadow, just a little mascara, a little gloss.
04:12Be good. Because we all are looking good up in here.
04:15So except me, you know, a little shiny. But we're going to pick that.
04:18I am super shiny.
04:20Everyone's skin looks so good, even just before we start.
04:23Everyone's complexion is super clear.
04:26It's one color. It's even. I mean, we're catching the light.
04:29But no, it looks flawless. It looks flawless.
04:32One thing, too, that I want to touch on that I think all of us have mentioned in this chat is oftentimes our skin complexions are changing,
04:41whether it's due to the season, whether it's due to travel, whether it's to being outdoors.
04:46Like you were saying, Sloan, because you were on the court killing it all day long.
04:51So we actually have a virtual shade finding tool.
04:54It will tell you exactly what shade you are and match you to the specific undertone that you are.
05:00So for me in the wintertime, I can be a little pasty.
05:03So normally I'm a neutral undertone.
05:05But in the summer, you know, when I'm lowed up, she's a little warmer undertone.
05:10So I love that it takes all of the guessing games away.
05:14It's super seamless.
05:15And within a matter of seconds, you can find your perfect shade for any time of year.
05:20I always start with a clean space, hydrated.
05:23I always try to use a moisturizer that has an SPF in it.
05:27But sometimes they don't control your oil as much.
05:30And because I like a matte look, I try to use a moisturizer that has something mattifying, even if I go on top of the SPF.
05:37So Estee Lauder has the Daywear Matte Oil Control Moisturizer.
05:42And it's not going to give you a matte, dry look.
05:45But it's definitely going to control some of the oil so that you start off, you know, removing some of that excess and it's not going to dry you out.
05:52I think I already messed it up.
05:54Wait.
05:55Yeah, you didn't do that much.
05:57That was too much?
06:00Less is more.
06:02But it's fine.
06:03Wait, wait, wait.
06:04I got to start over already.
06:05Keep your neck.
06:06Do your neck.
06:07You can do your neck.
06:08Because you always want to apply everything that's on your face to the neck.
06:11Okay.
06:12And go up.
06:13Your ears too.
06:14They need to be moisturized too.
06:15Mm-hmm.
06:16Your ears?
06:17Yeah.
06:18We can't leave out your ears.
06:19Like when you're doing makeup and stuff, like you definitely do to your face.
06:23I do to my ears and also my neck as well.
06:27Okay.
06:28Okay.
06:29Are we good?
06:30Yes.
06:31Yes.
06:32So next, we've all mentioned her, the Double Wear Stain Place Foundation.
06:37Mm-hmm.
06:38The only thing about this, there's so many different ways for your foundation.
06:42You kind of have to find the best way for you.
06:43A lot of people like to put it on with their fingers because it warms up the product.
06:47Some people like brushes.
06:49Some people like blenders.
06:50You really are just going to find the best way it comes on naturally for you.
06:54But I just dot all over my face.
06:57Okay.
06:58Here we go.
06:59Okay.
07:00And you can either rub it on like a lotion, just like a moisturizer, or you can use a sponge.
07:06It's going to give you a little bit more coverage because this is a medium to full coverage,
07:10which is my favorite because sometimes I don't like a really heavy full coverage foundation.
07:15Mm-hmm.
07:16So you can add as little or as much as you want to get whatever desired coverage you want.
07:20Right.
07:21I find when I do mine for daytime, I like doing it with my hands because it just makes it a little lighter.
07:27But if I want a heavier coverage, I use my blender.
07:30And sometimes I'll use brushes as well.
07:32But for the most part, it's blenders and hands.
07:35Agreed.
07:36I've never used my hands before.
07:38So this is more of like an arts and crafts for me right now, but I'm loving it.
07:44I mean, it's blending really well.
07:47It really is.
07:48It looks like your skin.
07:49Yeah.
07:50It really looks like your skin.
07:51And if you have any kind of places you want to put a little bit more on, like I'm usually
07:56light, like around my nose.
07:57You can always add just a little bit more wherever you need a little bit more coverage.
08:02What do they call that?
08:03Don't they call that like your five o'clock shadow or something?
08:06I feel like I have done.
08:08I think that's a must-have.
08:09I think that's a must-have.
08:10I mean, what do you have a five o'clock shadow?
08:15Oh, Lord.
08:16Oh, Lord.
08:17No, never mind.
08:18Not my five o'clock shadow.
08:19I was just about to grab mine.
08:22Because I use the Deep Warm, 5W Deep Warm, because I don't really like a super heavy highlight.
08:29I like to make the shade, maybe a shade and a half lighter.
08:36That way it doesn't have to look like you have like a full three, five, six layers of makeup.
08:42It's really just a bit of that shadow under your eyes, right?
08:45You have this little crevice, you know?
08:46Exactly.
08:47Right.
08:48This is the Skinner Radiant Concealer, like you said.
08:51And that's what I'm going to use next.
08:52So it does have an applicator, too.
08:54That's going to make it easy.
08:55You don't have to use your finger to apply it.
08:57You can just dot it with the applicator and then kind of work it in with your finger.
09:01And it's the tap, tap, tap, not like rub.
09:04You just want to kind of press it into your skin.
09:07Okay.
09:08This is creating symmetry with the face.
09:11Come on.
09:12Yeah.
09:13Let's talk to something, Ellery.
09:15I never did.
09:16I always do here, I do here.
09:19I didn't know to do here and the chin and the smile line.
09:23So, all right.
09:24I got to try that.
09:25Wait, pause.
09:26What's going on there now?
09:28This is just a face powder, just a neutral.
09:31Okay.
09:32I'm following.
09:35So, Salon, you didn't want to try the concealer?
09:38Wait, I never wear concealer.
09:41Like, this is like my basic look.
09:43But I'm like, now I feel like I should try it.
09:46If you're scared, you can just do one thing.
09:48Yeah, just try it.
09:49I actually put it more than I needed.
09:51Mm-hmm.
09:52You got to elevate your makeup game, boo, for when you want it.
09:56I know, right?
09:57I'm like, okay, hold on.
09:58I mean, you don't really need it, but if you want to do it.
10:01Mm-hmm.
10:02Wait, let me see.
10:03Oh, wait.
10:04Turn this on.
10:05Wait, like that?
10:06Is that too light?
10:07That's enough.
10:08That's enough.
10:09Yeah.
10:10That's all I mean.
10:11Yeah.
10:12Okay.
10:13And just like that.
10:14Don't brush.
10:15I have to do everything she said.
10:16Mm-hmm.
10:17Okay, and then I have to blend all of this in.
10:19To seal or brush, here we go.
10:20Yes, ma'am.
10:21Here we go.
10:22And that's a good size for under your eyes, too, Salon.
10:26Yeah.
10:27And you are highlighted.
10:33Oh, okay.
10:35So now that you're ready, I mean, not all of us were blessed with the Cynthia Bailey bones.
10:44Yeah.
10:45So we need a little bit of time here.
10:47We need a little help.
10:48Okay?
10:49I'm looking at the moon right now just because I'm not highlighting any of the shadows in
10:53my face to give me this.
10:55And I want this.
10:57So I'm going to get the bronze goddess bronzer.
11:01Yeah.
11:02And like I said, you can use concealer, but I like to use bronzer.
11:07Mm-hmm.
11:08And you're just going to work the perimeter of your forehead, hollows of your cheeks up
11:13in this direction.
11:14And that's usually all I like to do when I'm doing something really soft because it's just
11:18going to give me a little bit more definition in my face.
11:21I just like to stamp it on.
11:23Wait, are you using your big brush, this one?
11:27This brush is a pretty decent size for it.
11:29You can go smaller, but since I'm not putting a lot, I'm just using this one because I'm
11:34just using the corner of the, of the brush.
11:37I'm not like swirling it in there.
11:39And then you can also get, I don't do my, this area too often, but it kind of helps to
11:45get a little, you know, profile, that side profile.
11:50Mm-hmm.
11:51So I usually just use the excess on the brush to get my jawline.
11:56Oh, I like this.
11:59Yeah.
12:00It's looking.
12:01Looking good.
12:02Looking bouncy.
12:03So next, it's also in the Bronze Goddess Collection.
12:06It is an illuminating powder.
12:08I'm trying to open mine.
12:10And this is-
12:11You gotta push it in.
12:12Yeah.
12:13Look at this.
12:14Look at this.
12:15I love this.
12:16Is that the same one?
12:17What color is yours?
12:18I have Solar Crush.
12:19Yep.
12:20That's the one I have as well.
12:21Same.
12:22Wait, I have heat waves.
12:25That was gonna be my second option.
12:28I have both.
12:29Like I kind of work both.
12:30Yeah.
12:31Okay.
12:32I'm greedy.
12:33Where am I putting it?
12:34Right here?
12:35The highest points of your cheeks.
12:37Mm-hmm.
12:38Yep.
12:39Cheeks first.
12:40Right there.
12:41Yep.
12:42I dust it on the tip of my nose.
12:46Mm-hmm.
12:47I don't do a stripe down the nose, but I do like to run it over the brim of the-
12:51Mm-hmm.
12:52Right tip of my nose.
12:53Mm-hmm.
12:54And some people go crazy.
12:55Some people put it on, like, these points of their-
12:59Oh.
13:00Some people like to put it on their chin.
13:01I just usually do the cheeks, a little bit on the nose, and then my cupid's bow.
13:05Mm-hmm.
13:06Yeah.
13:07Now, I know you said you don't wear lashes all the time, Cynthia, but I'm bald-eyed.
13:11I don't have no eyelashes.
13:12All right.
13:13I have no eyelashes.
13:14All right.
13:15I have no eyelashes.
13:16All right.
13:17All right.
13:18All right.
13:19All right, as well, but I still, I just embrace my bald eyes.
13:22Mm-hmm.
13:23This is Pure Color Envy Lash, and I like mascara wands that have, like, the defining bristles
13:30and the with bristles, because you can, like, comb through your eyelashes and then add
13:35more volume with the other side of the brush.
13:37I know a lot of people in the movies, they pump their mascara wands, but that's putting
13:41air in there.
13:42It'll dry out faster.
13:43Doesn't dry it out?
13:44No.
13:45I didn't know that.
13:46So, no pumping?
13:47No pumping.
13:48No pumping.
13:49No pumping.
13:50No pumping.
13:51Come on, Cynthia.
13:52I even knew that.
13:53I've been pumping for years.
13:54Okay.
13:55Okay.
13:56I mean, if we all cast and all the girls are there, you know, I may have somebody come
13:59in, you know, I mean, bring in the pros to give me, like, a big look.
14:01Because usually, if we all get together, I know that will definitely be in the show,
14:05that scene.
14:06Mm-hmm.
14:07If I'm going to spend money on glam, which, you know, it gets a little expensive, I definitely
14:11want to call in the big dogs for that.
14:13Okay.
14:14And for our professionals, like, when we sit and we, like, throw shade and, like, read
14:17and be funny or whatever, we always have professional people do us for that.
14:21Okay.
14:22But any, you see me going over to Kenya's or going to meet Candy's somewhere, usually,
14:26for the most part, I do makeup.
14:28Okay.
14:29That is amazing.
14:30Girl, you look good.
14:31I learned how to do it from, you know, before I was a housewife, I was a model.
14:35And, like, honestly, all the models that I came up with, Naomi and Tyra, all those girls,
14:40Iman, they all know how to beat their face.
14:41Like, we had to know how to do our makeup because, you know, we're older than y'all now.
14:46Okay.
14:47So, with that said, today, you know, we didn't have a lot of different shades.
14:51And a lot of times, we've worked with white makeup artists, and they didn't always have
14:55our colors, so we always brought our own makeup.
14:57And we always, you know, knew how to, like, you know, touch it up if we didn't get the
15:01beat that we wanted.
15:02So, trust me, all those ladies, those talented, beautiful models that I came up with can beat
15:07their face probably better than any makeup artist can ever do it.
15:10The routine we just did today, I feel like, is something that you can take with you because
15:13you did good.
15:14Yeah, I can definitely do this.
15:16We didn't even hit the lips yet.
15:18No, but, yeah, no, no.
15:19I'm definitely going to, like, DM you and be like, can you write down my routine so I
15:24don't forget?
15:25Not write down my routine.
15:28I got you.
15:29I got you.
15:32So, I'm going to use a gloss.
15:34I like to use glosses all summer long, just because they're so easy.
15:38You don't even need a mirror when you have a gloss in your purse.
15:41This is just a really nice gold bronze color that makes your lips have a little.
15:46It's very subtle.
15:47They're good toppers, too.
15:48This is a good topper.
15:49Like, if you have a new, like, even a new gloss.
15:52And I also have peach chill, which is really pretty for daytime.
15:55Oh, that's what I'm wearing today.
15:56Yeah, peach chill is really good.
15:58That's really good.
15:59And I like that they're not really sticky, either.
16:02Yeah, they're super smooth with gloss.
16:06Mm-hmm.
16:07And then that's pretty much it, guys.
16:10Well, that's the whole look?
16:12Yes.
16:13Whole look.
16:14It just turned you up or not.
16:15The whole point was to accentuate, you know, what you already had.
16:19And you were already looking good before you started.
16:22But I can see the little subtle differences.
16:24It looks super natural, which is the point.
16:26Wait, do you guys see that corner?
16:28That corner right there?
16:29I do.
16:30Like, a little highlight?
16:31Yeah.
16:32A little highlight there?
16:33Ooh, that one's a little bit more, but we'll just go back to this one.
16:35But, yeah.
16:36This one is good.
16:37A little bit more right here.
16:38Right?
16:39My skin looks so, like, even on this side.
16:42I like how the foundation, like, really, like, it's full coverage.
16:46I really like that.
16:47Mm-hmm.
16:48And it looks, like, super smooth.
16:49And, like, maybe because I did it with my hands, I've never done that before, either.
16:53So, that was maybe also, I warmed it up.
16:56That's a term I just learned.
16:57Mm-hmm.
16:58So, I did that.
16:59You can really make a little makeup look with just your hands.
17:01So, they're your best tools to have.
17:03Yeah.
17:04Back in the day, it was very hard for Black women to find a shade.
17:07And so, we were constantly sort of having to be chemists, if you will.
17:11And mix and match different shades, maybe different brands, to get the perfect foundation color.
17:16And, again, that's one of the questions that people ask me the most.
17:20You know, where can I find, you know, a foundation that matches?
17:23And I would definitely refer them right over here to Estee Lauder.
17:29Because, like I said, I believe that they have a foundation color for any skin color, honestly.
17:35Amazing.
17:36Well, with that, ladies, I want to thank you all so much for spending time with us today.
17:42This was absolutely fantastic.
17:44Ellery, we learned so much from you.
17:47Yeah.
17:48All of your tools, tips and tricks.
17:50Cynthia, Sloan, you look fantastic.
17:58Thank you so much for getting ready with us and putting on this summer glow.
18:03Now, I don't know if you ladies have plans after this, but I do think there are some mandatory
18:08selfies in order for the day.
18:12Definitely.
18:13Yes.
18:14So, with that, everyone make sure you follow Estee Lauder and hashtag Double Wear on Instagram.
18:23And check out the virtual try-on tool that we've been speaking so highly of during this tutorial
18:28at EsteeLauder.com to find your perfect shape.
18:31Thanks, Shane.
18:32Thanks, Shane.
