00:07emergency services were called to the Ashley Youth Detention Centre.

00:26One staff member was assaulted and we suspect that there's a broken nose.
00:31The other staff members injuries were less serious.
00:34The union says it's warned the state government about the implications of short staffing.
00:39They were at least three staff short and that normally when that happens
00:44there would be protocols put in place that restricts access from certain areas.
00:48That didn't occur.
00:49Tasmania's Department for Education, Children and Young People isn't commenting on staff numbers at the time.
00:55But says safety is its priority.
00:58At the end of last year three workers were injured and seven young people escaped the facility.
01:04Tasmania's Minister for Young People has described the latest incident as unacceptable
01:09and says the government is taking action.
01:12We have seven new staff that came on board in December last year.
01:16Another six new staff coming on board in January of this year.
01:20Also towards the end of last year we uplifted our security out at Ashley to ensure that those workers did feel safe.
