00:00made any deal and you can have one party that's willing to do everything i think you had sent us
00:05a tweet from barry jackson it wasn't like and again anything could happen in the next 54 minutes
00:11it wasn't like barry jackson said the bucks were holding out for someone and the heat refused
00:19they're just waiting till the offseason it seems like they're inclined because they feel the deals
00:27might get better and janice didn't create a stink yeah head honest and and we knew that he wasn't
00:33it's i i don't again i i still believe that he would love to be in milwaukee the rest of his career
00:39if they got kevin durant and victor wembinyama and nicola yokich to come to uh milwaukee i don't think
00:48janice would want out i think he likes it there so you know the heat tried now did the heat say oh
00:56we'll also throw in bam out of bio no but i don't think milwaukee was asking for him because i think
01:02they understood that he was untouchable but had they done that i mean what are you really what are
01:08you really left with anyway so i don't want to hear anybody saying that the heat were asleep at the wheel
01:14you know it's not like other deals for janice were there and the heat were just kind of slow playing it
01:24like some argue they did with dame lillard and i think we all agree in hindsight they didn't
01:30it was just joe cronin unwilling completely unwilling to do a deal with miami but regardless
01:38uh janice it doesn't look like is going anywhere and milwaukee will wait it out and who knows
01:46they might be saying hey cooler heads are going to prevail from janice's camp we're going to try to
01:52make some maneuvers during the off season and who knows but they seem to be buying themselves
01:59more time uh to either get a better deal or maybe keep janice and so that leaves the heat with
02:07the status quo which i know no one's happy with um but it is what it is and anything could happen in
02:14the next now we're down to 52 minutes you could still end up jaw i mean anything can happen so
02:20well hawk i regret to inform you that people are complaining that the miami heat front office
02:26stood pat no uh no pun intended what did you want them to do people yeah they're uh they're not happy
02:34hawk i do i do think there is some truth to and i'm with you by the way like it it is becoming
02:40clear to me based on some of the reports that we're seeing that the bucks weren't
02:44as interested in moving on from janice's as maybe most people they weren't under the gun to do it
02:51like yeah he wanted out but it was like also if you don't it's fine i like it here as well like they
02:58just weren't under the gun and and listen they're not stupid like they've got to be looking at what
03:04happened with dallas because janice is on that level right the luca level and they got to look
03:12at dallas and go wait a second are we going to do something here super quick because all of a sudden
03:19it needs to be done now and are we going to regret this for the rest of our professional lives
03:26and so i don't think they wanted to go down that road
03:29i think we're heat fans are also frustrated is that they've maintained the status quo for this
03:37moment to once again put themselves in a position to go trade for the janice and you're in the
03:44situation again where it doesn't seem like you have the assets to to pull off that trade and i think
03:51we're heat fans you know that are that are frustrated today if the heat don't end up making any moves
03:57where they do have some reason to be frustrated is if you're a play-in team a perennial play-in team
04:03and you don't have the assets when a player like janice like in this situation does become available
04:10then what is the plan because you can't keep jumping back on the hamster wheel of hey this group is going
04:19to pull off some unbelievable upset like in 2023 and not adjust course at a certain point and hawk
04:27i i i think there's a lot of truth to that statement but if they did something else they
04:32remove themselves from the ability to get janice well maybe maybe not but uh if if they were in a
04:40situation where they could reevaluate recalibrate and this summer enter into negotiations with milwaukee
04:48if janice is available and they're listening to the heat in the long run i'm not kidding you this
04:53might benefit the heat because they may be able to put together something even better during the
04:58offseason maybe maybe but you're at risk of of losing some players and you're kind of back in the
05:08same situation that you were in you'll have more cap flexibility for sure and you'll have another
05:13unprotected pick what would have been the alternative though i think the alternative would have been and
05:19and look i i think barry jackson has really nailed this in terms of how he's presented both sides on
05:25on social media which is it would take a complete change philosophically to how the miami heat handle
05:34their organization from the standpoint of they always think that they can compete with eric spolstrom with
05:41the talent that they have um it would change a complete 180 would take a complete 180 where they say
05:47we don't have enough let's move on from some of the players currently on the roster let's trade them
05:52let's get more assets via draft capital via expiring contracts whatever you want to do and then reassess the
06:01situation in the offseason well that that to me is a fair conversation it's different than the criticism
06:07of not getting janice right now because that's a fair criticism if and barry jackson's been clear about
06:13that for a couple of seasons like hey maybe their methodology is flawed because i mean you know
06:21the bulls have done the same thing the bulls have though cleared out everyone but they've ended up with
06:2514 second round picks tell me what what that's gonna net them like i mean and that by the way is
06:32probably what you'd have been looking at with the heat second round picks and like i i just if if you
06:39want to make the argument that the heat have middled for too long that's fair but if you are only arguing
06:49this particular trade deadline where janice became available a week and a half ago right it just this
06:57one janice became available a week and a half ago if the heat just sold off pieces and took themselves
07:05out of the running for janice because they decided we got to recalibrate being a seven seed and eight
07:11seed is is not for us that's fine that's fine but everyone would have been complaining hey what are
07:18you doing i thought you were in it to get janice so it's kind of two conversations in my book has the
07:25heat methodology been flawed the last few seasons probably we're not going into the second half of the
07:32season with much hope that they can be much different than what we have seen in the first half but could
07:39they have done anything more to get janice this time around my guess and it's based on nothing but a guess
07:47they were the closest team in the nba to getting janice at this particular trade deadline they were i
07:54believe they were the closest team in the nba to pull that off didn't happen because milwaukee felt
08:03no pressure to get anything done and that's from janice but i think they were probably the closest team
08:10in the nba but what does it say then about the situation you're in where once that player does become
08:17available if you don't have the assets i i just think you know i'm kind of saying the same thing here
08:21they almost did though yeah but did they i mean maybe maybe those conversations and look i don't
08:26know and i don't i don't think we'll ever truly know but were they were they really close i i would
08:34venture to say no for two reasons one i don't think the milwaukee bucks were seriously going to trade
08:39janice unless it was the like a blow blow you out of the water offer and i don't think the heat had
08:47that i don't think anybody had that and two i i i had said this when the janice report came out that
08:53to me this would be a litmus test the miami heat have stuck by tyler hero they they didn't want to
08:59pay him the extension but he's he's been here um they drafted kalal where they have tried their best
09:07since the terry rozier thing was just an absolute debacle to stay flexible and to me this was a litmus
09:13test are the assets that they've developed that they drafted and that now they're using to try
09:20and go out and get the whale because that's the only way you can do it in the nba nowadays guys
09:24don't hit free agency pat riley can't sit down with janice throw the rings on the table and flex the
09:30the armani suits and and bring them to the casella center doesn't work like that this was a litmus test
09:35of did they stockpile the correct type of potential package to go land that superstar and as of right
09:42now hawk the answer is no and i think that's where the frustration is if you don't have the
09:48capability via the assets that you've compiled to go make this type of move and to be genuinely in
09:54the conversation for it and you're a middling team who has no clear indication of getting out of the
10:00first round again this season then what's the direction what's the plan and i don't know what it
10:05is and i i do understand i'm not here uh like uh all the fools on heat twitter you know uh crushing
10:12riley and and saying that you know he's asleep at the wheel but i also on the other hand do understand
10:18the frustration of we're doing this again but i think they were in position again i think they were
10:26probably right there
10:27probably right there
