00:00Spread lines on Super Bowl week. That's right, people. Sunday, 6.30 p.m., the biggest event in the sports landscape happens.
00:08It's Super Bowl 60. It's going to be between Seattle, yes, we know that, and the New England Patriots, of course.
00:13Seattle is the road team. The home team is New England. And yes, the opening lines were four and a half as a favorite towards Seattle.
00:19And today on a Thursday, February 5th, they're still sitting at four and a half.
00:23The only line movement that we basically had was a 46 and a half at the opening number in the total, down to a 45 and a half.
00:29And you guessed it, on Thursday, we're still sitting at 45 and a half.
00:32Only days away from Super Bowl Sunday. Joe Ranieri, what is your spread line on a Thursday for the big game?
00:39Well, talk to the guys in the risk rooms again yesterday, Donnie.
00:43And they started to see, at least out west, a little bit last night, the volumes start to pick up of bets.
00:50But today, beginning today and tomorrow and Saturday, if this spread is going to move, Donnie, it is likely going to be over the next 24 to 48 hours here.
01:04But in some of these rooms, Donnie, I am hearing that you're talking a five to six to one to count with these tickets being on Seattle.
01:14It's not a ton of sharp money just yet, but the public, I mean, five or six to one, Donnie, is just hammering Seattle with the spread here.
01:25And yet we're still kind of hovering around that five mark, four and a half, five.
01:29But there are still a lot of influential bettors sitting on the sideline, but now might be the time, and you're running out of time.
01:38If you like an over in this game, 45 consensus will be the lowest this number gets.
01:44It's only they're expecting to go up from here.
01:48Let's get after it here.
01:49Super Bowl 60 on Sunday, 6.30 p.m.
01:52And I got to tell you, a little bit lackluster on the commercials so far, Joe Ranieri, as you're seeing some of these already on your TV screen,
01:58that will be displayed on Sunday, some of these $10 million ads, and away we go.
02:04But the game will kick off at 6.30.
02:06The pump, the circumstance, the pageantry, all going to take place in Santa Clara at Levi's Stadium.
02:11We started this show off talking once again, Joe, on those spread lines.
02:13The four and a half, they haven't moved yet here.
02:15New England is the underdog.
02:18Seattle is the favorite in a total that sits at 45 and a half.
02:21Now, Joe, earlier in the week, we had 70% or so ticket count across multiple books
02:26that showed us that Seattle certainly being the heavy favorite.
02:29Went to 68% and now 66% in the market for ticket count on Seattle.
02:35So that is starting to come down.
02:36So I ask you this question again.
02:37Come Sunday, 6.30 p.m. Eastern, are we more likely to see the four and a halves or the fives
02:43or back to fours, Joe, on Sunday?
02:46At that point, Donnie, it doesn't matter.
02:49I mean, five is not a key number.
02:51I mean, it's a dead number.
02:52No game is going to land five, you know, four and a half is, it's in the same ballpark.
02:58So you're not really at this particular point dealing with, can we get an extra, can we wait
03:03for a half a point one way or the other?
03:06Because it's not really going to make a difference.
03:08If you like Seattle, lay it with Seattle.
03:11If you like New England, take the points.
03:14It's that simple here.
03:15But the reality of the situation is you're going to have a little, I think, a half a point
03:20back and forth, Donnie.
03:21You're going to see, right now, you're seeing more four and a halves than you are fives in
03:25the market.
03:25The fives are still there.
03:27And I think you'll begin to see more fives pop up, then it'll come back down.
03:31So I think what you're seeing is what you're getting.
03:34The biggest move from the opening to now, this opening number, the biggest, you know, slight
03:40has been the total.
03:42The total has gotten more movement and more sharp money than anything else right now.
03:46Because don't forget, this was 46 and a half.
03:4945 is a key number in NFL totals.
03:52You know, it was 46 and a half.
03:54And now we're seeing 45, 45 and a half.
03:56So that's been the biggest move.
03:58And we are likely going to see an even bigger move prior to kick, Donnie, because, you know,
04:03the public is never betting an under in a Super Bowl.
04:07It's always going to be the over.
04:09And that money has yet to hit the board.
04:11How about those second half numbers here, Joe?
04:14You always take a look at who's going to win the first quarter or the first half, but
04:17the adjustments will be made a longer halftime here.
04:20Who's going to come out, Joe, with a better second half?
04:22Do you feel Seattle minus two and a half for the second half?
04:24And also a total listed at 22 and a half second half team, Joe, which one could it be?
04:31Yeah.
04:31Well, you got to ask yourself, Donnie, right?
04:33Like which coaching staff do you think is better at making in-game adjustments?
04:37And they both have been very good this year in doing that, you know, and we also know
04:43that New England all year long was a first half team, Donnie.
04:48Nobody made you more money backing them in the first half than the New England Patriots,
04:54who I think only trailed at the half, Donnie, in one, maybe two games, I think.
04:59That's it.
05:00I mean, they have been fantastic first half teams and then did enough in the second half
05:06to be able to hold on and eventually win the game.
05:09Both teams very good against the number this year.
05:12So I think, Donnie, it all depends who has got to actually take more chances in the second
05:17half, right?
05:18Who is down in the game and who's going to have to, can't be conservative, is going to
05:23go a long way in deciding who wins the second half in the game.
05:27Economic impacts, Joe.
05:28We always hear about it.
05:29Hey, give rich people free stuff and all the economic impact you get in your city and state.
05:33Look how much money you'll make.
05:34It never really turns out to be right, but the NFL does one thing correct for themselves.
05:38Whenever they go to a Super Bowl city, they let you bid on it.
05:40That's why it just doesn't make a rotation out here.
05:42Your city has to tell you, how much free stuff are you going to give the NFL to get this game
05:47here?
05:47And how about this?
05:48The stadium, hotel rooms, billboards, security, luxury suites, and 100% of the ticket sales
05:53and pay zero taxes?
05:55That's what the NFL gets to have it in your stadium, in your city, in your stadium.
06:00By the way, Levi's Stadium, the ugliest looking stadium in NFL history.
06:05I don't know what architecture firm designed that stadium.
06:07It is horrendous to look at.
06:10Remember, last time we had a Super Bowl there, the field was really good.
06:14Held up very, very well.
06:16So let's hope, Donnie, all that money they're saving, they make sure this field is up to
06:21par for a Super Bowl.
06:23That's all I'm hoping for.
06:25Get it all back here.
06:26How about this?
06:27No NFL head coach has ever taken over a team with a losing record and won the Super Bowl
06:31in his first year.
06:33Vrabel can be the first guy to do that.
06:35It's a shame Gerard Mayo didn't get a chance, though.
06:38Yeah, no, because this is really not his team in any way, shape, or form.
06:42But you got to get, listen, coaching matters in the NFL.
06:45It's a coaching league.
06:47The NBA, not so much, but definitely the NFL.
06:51And when you get the right guy in the right situation, look at what can happen in one year,
06:55Donnie.
06:56Unreal.
06:57Certainly can happen.
06:58We'll see if they can pull off the minor upset on Sunday afternoon.
07:01More news and notes getting you right up to kickoff for the Super Bowl 60.
07:05Keep it here on the early line at the SportsCard Network.
07:07We're ready for the action.
07:08We are.
07:09Did you know, Joe Ranieri, that the New England Patriots could be the first team to win seven
07:15Super Bowls as a franchise?
07:17They're currently tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers with six.
07:20And as I look at this graph, when I go, the Dallas Cowboys with five, does that actually
07:23count?
07:23Like, if you haven't won one like 30 years, like that should be on the list here.
07:27But it is amazing to see, like the Vikings, the Bills, the Bengals, the Falcons, the Cardinals,
07:32the Titans, the Browns, the Jaguars, the Chargers, the Texans, the Panthers, and the Lions
07:37have never won a Super Bowl championship.
07:40That's kind of crazy.
07:41Like, the Super Bowl has been around, Joe.
07:42This is the 60th interpretation of it.
07:45There's 32 teams, and some have never won them.
07:48A majority, it feels like, have never won a Super Bowl.
07:51That's kind of wild.
07:52Yeah, kind of crazy.
07:53I mean, you had that era, too, Donnie, where, you know, dynasties were prevalent, right?
08:00You had the 49ers.
08:01You had one stretch there and had a couple decades where it was just the 49ers and the Cowboys
08:05going back and forth, right?
08:06Mix in the Giants in a couple of years, and it was just, that was that, right?
08:10Because you were able to hoard your players here, and then, you know, we kind of got the
08:15old salary cap thing and everything else going on, and now, all of a sudden, it was harder
08:19to keep players.
08:20And, you know, there was a time, Donnie, where the idea that Matt Stafford would ever play
08:25for another team outside of Detroit, that didn't happen.
08:29But, obviously, now, it is happening, and that is why maybe you're starting to see a few
08:35unexpected teams show up, but there are some organizations, Donnie, where, yeah, it might
08:42be another 50 years before they even sniff anything even close to a Super Bowl.
08:48But I got to tell you, when you look at that list there, the team that doesn't get enough
08:51guff for being on there is San Francisco with their five.
08:53Like, they're just as bad as the Dallas Cowboys, but don't get nearly the amount of vitriol
08:58that the Dallas Cowboys, oh, you've never won anything.
09:00Like, it's been eons since San Francisco's won a damn thing here.
09:04So, it's kind of funny to see them with five, with having come up empty, what, 30-plus years
09:08for them as well.
09:09If we look at this, Joe, the bets are going to start coming in the later the week comes,
09:13and the big fish start to come to town.
09:15How about this?
09:16$725,000 on the New England Patriots money line.
09:19Had a plus 195 there.
09:21Bet would win $1.4 million and is a hedge from the same bettor who wagered $50K on the
09:27Seahawks to win the Super Bowl at 60-1 odds.
09:30He's hedging out, Joe, taking that paycheck.
09:33Yeah, why not?
09:34I mean, get in and get out, Donnie, right?
09:36That's what it is all about.
09:38And we have had, you know, seven-figure bets here that have come in on the Seahawks and
09:44the Patriots.
09:45We know good old Mattress Mac alive and well, dropping $2 million, right, on the Seahawks.
09:52But, you know, isn't it amazing, Donnie, you get these seven-figure bets and the line doesn't
09:57move?
09:58Nope.
09:58Why is that?
09:59Oh, yeah.
10:00Maybe it's because if you're betting seven figures on this game, chances are the books
10:06don't think you're all that sharp.
10:07They're more than happy to take that million-dollar bet from you because they know, yeah, this
10:14is likely not going to happen.
10:18Isn't it funny?
10:18There's a couple guys out there trying to walk into a casino, put $1,500 down, and be
10:22extremely respected.
10:23Like, we have to watch this line.
10:24And then you can walk in with $725,000, and then they go, all right.
10:28And not moving an inch.
10:30And God bless our buddy Dave Sharapan.
10:32He used to always tell me at this point, like, bettors would come in there so square, $725,000
10:36and get plus $195,000, and then they would flash the board at plus $205,000 right after.
10:40Like, you want another $725,000 at a better price than you just got it?
10:44We'll take it again for you at this point.
10:46It is hilarious how some things happen in Vegas and who's respected and who's not respected
10:50at this point here.
10:51Talking about being respected here, how about the two quarterbacks lining up?
10:54I expect a healthy Super Bowl from both of these quarterbacks.
10:58And we've been pre-doing these numbers all week long.
11:00Drake May was 20 and a half.
11:02He's now up, Joe.
11:03Here we go to 22, 21 and a half.
11:07And Darnold's still hanging around around 228 at this point.
11:10The quarterbacks hopefully healthy for Super Bowl Sunday.
11:12That's what I want to see.
11:14Yeah, and it looks like they are.
11:16The oblique injury, I think we actually heard from Sam Darnold, and he said, no, it's much
11:22better now that he's had some time.
11:25So that's going to be good.
11:26The shoulder issue, not going to be a shoulder issue there with Drake May.
11:31We know that.
11:32And listen, I think this was part of the reason why they built in an extra week, Donnie, because
11:36it never used to be like that back in the day.
11:40You know, the Cowboys and the 49ers era there where that's all who ended up winning.
11:46Don't forget.
11:46I mean, it was one week out.
11:49Boom, you're playing that big game.
11:50But now guys have a couple of weeks here and, you know, before that have an opportunity
11:55to rest up a little bit.
11:56And I think they're better off for it.
11:58No, you're right about this, too, because like they like to have the build up to the
12:02pomp and circumstance for the Super Bowl media week and build it all up to that and then
12:06have a Super Bowl.
12:06And it does get big ratings at that point.
12:08But I do like the fact that you're building a de facto bye week.
12:10Like, I understand if you're a football team player.
12:12Oh, man, I can't believe we get an extra week.
12:14And that guy had a banged up ankle.
12:15Like, that's not the point.
12:16You're playing for a championship here.
12:17You want both of the teams as healthy as possible on the biggest stage to provide the best product
12:22you can and a legitimate chance to win a championship.
12:24And I'm glad the NFL does that.
12:25Running back props here.
12:27Seems like it starts with Kenneth Walker III at 73 and a half.
12:30That number is down from his opening number.
12:32But how about this, Joe?
12:33Ramondre Stevenson still sitting just under 50 at 49 and a half.
12:36But now, Travion Henderson, 17 and a half yesterday, up to 18 and a half today.
12:41So some minor movement.
12:42And also, Drake May, quarterback Joe, earlier in the week, 36 and a half was his prop.
12:47He's now 37 and a half.
12:49Yeah, we've seen those seem to be the popular ones, right, Donnie?
12:53We seem to have we're fading Walker rushing props.
12:58They did last week.
12:59Also, don't forget, against the that Rams defense.
13:02So it should not come as a necessarily a big surprise to anybody that that is what happened.
13:07But I think the Drake May rushing prop also getting a ton of love.
13:12I don't understand the Travion.
13:14I didn't understand it at 17 and a half, Donnie.
13:16And 18 and a half, to me, is still a ton of value.
13:20I mean, you're looking at a guy that throughout the season, average, his number was about 46 and a half rushing yards a game.
13:28That's what his prop was during the season.
13:30And he's the home run hitter.
13:31Is he not for New England?
13:33He's the guy that could get that in one run.
13:35So I don't understand where they came up with that number there.
13:40It feels like there's some value with Travion Henderson.
13:43It does.
13:44There's something that we don't know where the Patriots are like, oh, this guy's got a devastating anchor injury.
13:48We're just going to hide it and maybe you still have the game plan for him.
13:50Because you're right about this.
13:51It wasn't as if he was coming on late in the season.
13:53Like, oh, he could be good.
13:54Like, he's had some solid games.
13:55When we say solid games, he should be getting at least five carries in this game.
13:58And if Henderson gets four to five carries, you'll take it at 17 and a half.
14:02Hey, if he went four carries and got nine yards, so be it.
14:05But you're right, Joe.
14:05He's a big play threat, which means the chance of him getting a 10-plus yard carry absolutely will be there.
14:11We'll find out his usage rate come Super Bowl Sunday this weekend here.
14:14Receiving props.
14:15Jackson, Smith, and Jigba way at the top of that list.
14:1893 and a half is his prop.
14:20Stephon Diggs at 44 and a half.
14:22Those are the two high watermarks.
14:23And then a lot of value down the board depending on who you're going to get here, Joe.
14:28Yeah, it would be a fade for me, too, for J.S. and Donnie.
14:32Because you know where the public is going, right?
14:36The public is going to, and that number will likely increase here.
14:40They are just, here's the problem, though.
14:43New England knows this.
14:44And New England has something the Rams didn't, guys.
14:48And that's a shutdown corner in Christian Gonzalez.
14:50So I can assure you they will want anybody and everybody to beat them outside of JSN in this game, especially deep.
14:59So I look, take away that target and see what Sam Darnold and company have left in the tank.
15:06I think that's what Vrabel and company are going to be looking for.
15:09Cooper Cupp's listed prop is 32 and a half.
15:12We got Cooper Cupp talking about his Super Bowl journey right now.
15:15And my journey to be here has had a lot of ups and downs.
15:19There's a lot of times where, like I said, I've been lonely.
15:23I've been by myself, been in the weight room by myself.
15:26I've been just, I felt like there's not really people alongside me and all the doubts, all the, you know, hearing lies and things that are spoken over you and into your life.
15:40And, you know, for me, the faith that I had and the belief that I had, because I had this belief that, you know, the things that I was doing were for a greater purpose than myself.
15:54And there was a there was a point behind it, the joy that I felt playing this game just because it felt like I was just made to do it.
16:02And being able to glorify God through that, it's like, man, that is going to make it all worth it.
16:07And so it's sustained me through all the highs and all the lows.
16:12So, yeah, truly wouldn't be here today without it.
16:15By the way, looking at that clip, and we're going to talk about this after the break, Joe, that was from media night.
16:21The difference in the stark contrast between the last three media nights and this media night, did they have them in like a shoebox where nobody was able to attend or ask any questions?
16:29Guys, we got questions, people. We want to get them answered next.
16:33I see a lot of complaints on social media about like, hey, what's the Super Bowl doing in San Francisco?
16:38Well, technically, the game isn't in San Francisco.
16:41It's just that OK Bay area, which is an hour and a half away to Santa Clara.
16:45But I thought one of the interesting was is like the NFL's opening night, which is what they call it, which is media night, which means both teams in the building, the media gets a look at it.
16:53But also, they let fans in to watch in the past couple of years in Dome Stadiums.
16:57They've done it right on premises.
16:58Now, last year, we were on the floor in New Orleans at the Superdome.
17:02And let me tell you, Joe, we went from the convention center where they bused all the media in for media night there, but the fans were allowed in.
17:09The entire lower bowl of the Superdome was completely filled with Eagles and Chiefs fans here.
17:15Pomp, circumstance, bands, performances, loud music, like on the floor of the Superdome, which they roped off the field itself, but around it were all the booths and you can get to the players.
17:24Couldn't even move.
17:26And if you wanted to ask a question to Travis Kelsey, Patrick Holmes, or let you say Jalen Hurts, you couldn't get near their booth at all.
17:33And we just watched a clip from Cooper Cup with the Super Bowl NDP, and it looked like not a single person was at the venue.
17:40And you might ask, why?
17:41Well, if you have the media at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the Super Bowl in Santa Clara, and then for a random night, you say, oh, yeah, by the way, guys, goats from San Francisco all the way to San Jose for this night here, nobody was there.
17:56No, no, and a lot of the people aren't flying in on, you know, on the Monday, Donnie, right?
18:03They're going to get there late Monday, early Tuesday.
18:07But there is nothing convenient about any of it, Donnie, to try, especially from a media perspective, unless you are employing and sending, you know, three different groups of reporters at three different locations.
18:20Because that's almost what it takes to cover it correctly, but you've got to pick and choose your battles, right, when you're there.
18:27So, all right, I really don't want to drive an hour and a half here to get up and watch the same old, same old, so I'll just stay where I am.
18:35Nothing about this is convenient in any way, shape, or form.
18:40It's supposed to be like a fan event as well, where the fans get to see the players, you get to enjoy, and you see the Super Bowl trophy.
18:46They introduce the players on each side.
18:47I don't even know if they did that, because the simple fact is, when we were in New Orleans last year, like, the fans were in New Orleans downtown, and the Superdome was right downtown.
18:56Hey, guys, we're in town early.
18:58Let's go over to this fan event.
18:59Let's go have some fun.
19:01Same thing if you were in Las Vegas.
19:02Like, it was right at the stadium, which is across from the Strip.
19:05Hey, we're in town, the party.
19:07Let's go check this out.
19:08Fast forward to this year, it's like, well, we're going to fly into San Francisco, but then we've got to rent a car for an hour away to San Jose to try to get in, and there's not really any pomp and circumstance.
19:16That's why the fans weren't there, and also, Joe, the Pro Bowl games is like, okay, they're in the city.
19:21Well, they're in San Francisco.
19:22Are they in San Jose?
19:23Are they going to be in Santa Clara at this point?
19:24That's why there was three people watching that event as well.
19:28Yeah, yeah, and affordability, Donnie.
19:30I mean, you're going to one of the most expensive parts of the country where hotel rooms are going to be 10 times what they were for New Orleans.
19:39Vegas, you know, you're going to be in there.
19:42Donnie, you know this.
19:43I mean, you have a lot of different opportunities to stay at different levels of pricing, but in San Francisco, like, pick your poison.
19:51Where are you staying?
19:52You're staying in San Jose.
19:54You're staying in San Jose.
19:54That whole area is, you know, to just hang out for seven days leading up to the game.
19:59You know, I would imagine you start to see more folks start coming in fan-wise today, tomorrow, and Saturday, but, yeah, the idea that they are going to be flocking there like New Orleans and hanging out, partying on the street, I just don't think that was realistic this year.
20:17Like, on it, like, if you are a fan, and let's just say you're going to the Super Bowl for the first time, like, hey, I'm going to go see my Patriots fly in from Logan all the way out to the West Coast.
20:24Do you go to San Francisco and then drive an hour and a half, or do you go in that party capital of the world, Santa Clara, and take in all the Applebee's?
20:34Like, what do you do as a fan?
20:36Yeah, well, you don't.
20:37What you do is you stop in, you fly to Vegas, you get out, and you go to one of the books in there, and there you go.
20:44It's much.
20:45You're going to enjoy it better than anybody on the ground in San Francisco.
20:50I can assure you of that.
20:52News and notes around the NFL, Joe.
20:53And, yes, you being a Jets fan, Frank Wright, he is here to solve all of your offensive issues with what quarterback, Brady Cook?
21:01Who even knows at this point?
21:02But big Frank's coming to town.
21:03By the way, he's got a ring on that finger from the Philadelphia Eagles' 2017 Super Bowl season.
21:07Joe, come on now.
21:08Show some respect.
21:09Yeah, my question, Donnie, is that I thought, you know, looking at it, I was like, oh, so they got a quarterback.
21:14Because, yeah, maybe Frank Wright can play quarterback for the Jets, because I'm willing to bet he would be better than anybody they currently have employed on this roster right now for the Jets.
21:27So, kudos, Frank Wright.
21:29I mean, you did coach Stanford last year, which was a total train wreck of a school and a program there.
21:37So, you know, apparently he's just going train wreck to train wreck here and seeing if he can be the conductor and try to keep the flames down.
21:45But good luck there, Frank.
21:46Let's see what you have for a quarterback to work with this year.
21:50By the way, let's keep it with quarterbacks here.
21:51I got to get to this next story, because this is everything that's wrong with college football.
21:55What was wrong, Joe, if you got five years to play four, you get a red shirt, you want to transfer, you're going to sit out.
22:02Everybody knew the rules of the game.
22:04And now we find out Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar has been granted a temporary restraining order against the NCAA.
22:12A restraining order against an organization, not a person.
22:17Yeah.
22:18Isn't that great, Tony?
22:19We just talked about this, right, with Charles Betayaco and me for college basketball.
22:25And why not, right?
22:26If you're a football player and you're seeing, well, this guy actually got to leave college, go play in the pros, and then come back to be the college.
22:34And all he's doing is hammering these lawsuits and these restraining orders, and he's still playing basketball at Alabama.
22:40Why not?
22:40Why can't I get another year of eligibility?
22:43Donnie, you've let the genie out of the bottle, Donnie, and there is no way you're putting that back in unless you just draw the line in the sand and end it for all.
22:53But that is not going to happen anytime soon.
