00:00I vote for my students, right, like I vote for my city, I vote for black people, I vote for women.
00:09I write and develop culturally responsive curriculum primarily for black students, right, to center their experiences and their lives and their learning.
00:20So my family has an organization, SDM2 Project Education.
00:24When the pandemic hit, we decided to create a graduation.
00:28They had a parade coming in, they were escorted in by motorcycles, and every person was on a truck like their own float.
00:36Every child had either a teacher or a family member that presented them with a diploma and had words for them.
00:44For me, I think my activism is connected to what I do as an educator.
00:50I want to be able to have an impact on youth that will be able to do the things necessary to shift the climate and the culture, anti-blackness, not just in their area, but globally.
01:06So voting is our way to shift what actually happens in our lives.
01:10Sometimes it might seem like so big, it doesn't matter, my vote doesn't count, people are making decisions that impact your livelihood, young, old, black, white, whatever, who you vote for impacts the quality of your life.
